Looks like the new and revolutionized touchflo is here and from the looks of it, it looks super nice but costs money. Here's the link: http://www.ftouchsl.com/Default.aspx
If you've tried it out, please give us feedback.
The homepage gif doesnt really hilight the power of this tool.
Looking at the videos/infos is way more complete...
I'll give a try ony my Kaiser (the easy scrolling a-la iPhone is interesting)
Forgive my cynicism, but.... I can get my Kaiser to do finger scroll in most applications with TouchFlo. It doesn't look as smooth, but I was under the impression that had something to do with the shoddy screen refresh rate due to poor driver support (see stickies) and I am not entirely convinced that program is being demonstrated on a similarly crippled device...
Furthermore, the flash file on their front page seems to imply that they have some form of gesture recognition software running. The videos, however, do not demonstrate this, only the scrolling....
Dammit I need to be more trusting....
can our handicapped device handle this?

No you don't. Thank-you for raising these rather interesting points. I'd love to have this, but I wouldn't want it messing with my TouchFlo cube...I like the cube, its something cool to show people so they can "Ooooooo....AAaaaaaahhhhhhhhh...."
The device in the videos looks like an HTC P3600. It runs WinMo5 and uses a Samsung processor. I'd guess this doesn't run as nicely on the Kaiser.

Agreed, but you may find that the Qualcomm chipset (as used in the Kaiser) is undermined by the software support for DirectDraw thereby making the Kaiser appear slower despite superior hardware. If the software support was there, you may well find touchflo itself is as smooth as this program. Until I see vids of it on a Kaiser or confirmation that it is pukka, I wont be touching it.
I'm sure someone will try it and let us know if it is kosher soon enough.
Testing
I installed the demo.
Call me Placebo Pete, but I'll be damned if overall scrolling isn't smoother. PIE scrolls MUCH smoother, scrolling the file system is still a bit doggy, but smoother overall. I have Touch Commander as my "cube" launcher and its much quicker to draw.
Overall, there really may be somthing to look at here. YMMV. I'd be interested in what others think.
I also run PointUI, which also seems to have benefitted. PointUI has always been smooth because its still a bit bare bones, but now I'd say its downright spritely!
Does this product interfere at all the TouchFlow Cube? I have Slither's version. Should Cube be de-installed to run this program or are they fully compatible?

why wait for a video on a kaiser...isn't that what the demo is for...so you can try it for yourself rather than just speculate...not flaming, just saying...
If anyone tries the new FTouchSL app on your Kaiser/Tilt, please post your results here. I tried it (in demo mode) earlier today on my Tilt and experienced many a touch screen freeze. The settings area includes an option to disable TouchFlo, which I did...and when I'd test the new scrolling in PIE or Contacts, it would scroll (beautifully, I might add! Much smoother better than TouchFlo IMO) but would then freeze after just a few swipes. I'm curious if I'm in the Kaiser/Tilt minority when experiencing these bugs. Thanks!
I have not seen any freezes or lockups yet.

Given I just broke my phone (cracked the screen) and had to re-install I don't want to mess with it quite yet.
My main point was that for some people, even if they use this software it wont improve matters because of the driver issues. This might lead them to blame the software (PocketCM worked well on my Hermes, not so well on my Kaiser) when in reality the software is fine, it's the drivers that have problems.
Some of the posts here are encouraging, but I can't quite understand how the software would improve Nick's touch commander and pointui exprience.
If I develop some courage and find time I will try and install it with some before and after shots. I can't be a Negetive Nancy forever....
Does this software interfere with the Cube? Can they co-exist?
So I finally managed to install it :
- First attempt, the Kaiser was unresponsible. Shutdown / restart.
Then didn't find where to restart the welcome wizard...
- Uninstalled, reinstalled : now I follow the wizard
- Scrolling to line 50 is ok...
- Selecting multiple lines won't work.
- Gestures "down-up" ... unable to do it neither (cannot press exit nor next)
Start Menu still works (from the hard button), but I can't select anything with the touchscreen...
I tried from the Program icon to disable the app, no way... Still won't give my touchscreen back.
I'll uninstall it.

Is that the demo or bought version you tried?
Demo of course, I won't buy something that didnt convince me
Problems here too
Hi
It installed fine, but when I got to the "gesture" step in the config wizard it hung and I could no longer use the touch screen.
I restarted and all looked fine, it felt much more responsive but then the touchscreen stopped working again. I could still use the hardware buttons, so I uninstalled it and my touchscreen came back (after a further restart of course!).
I am using Dutty's V3 ROM, so perhaps there is some incompatability somewhere.
I have installed the demo, and I must say, there is a noticeable difference in the smoothness of the scrolling versus using the default HTC ftouchflo. Also I was able to complete the tutorial with no hitches. I had the cube installed at first, and I couldn't sense any conflicts between the two. This app will conflict with the scrolling feature of the HTC Ftouchflo (obviously), but after you do the tutorial and it brings you to the setup page it gives you the option to disable the default touchflo scrolling. I have yet to determine which gestures I would like to use, so I haven't configured those yet. Overall I'd say this program is a lot better than the one HTC supplies. I would gladly pay 10 or 12 bucks for it. I wonder how much it costs. hmm let's see.....
20 Duckets!!
I guess I'm gonna hafta play with it some more to see if i really want to lay down 20 bucks for it.

Philteale and Sebbes, sounds like we're having identical screen freezing problems. I think the scrolling - when it works - is a lot smoother than TouchFlo...unfortunately, it keeps freezing.
Has anybody tried to use SPBs alternate shell instead of TouchFlo? I used it on my Hermes/TyTn and was very pleased as it allowed me to confige the today screen to give me ALL the information I needed on just ONE (1) screen, with the device still locked so my emails & C° are safe.

SPB Mobile Shell works fine
I disabled TouchFlo in the Today control applet, installed Mobile Shell and was up & running in minutes.
The only thing I can't get to work is selecting another theme than the default. Does anyone have experience with this?
Why did they remove it ?
Can I reinstall? Where do I buy or get the CAB from?
was it part of the diamond? how was it called?
Most HTC phones have Voice Command standard, there is a Microsoft product, but not sure it would work on the D2, maybe they removed VC to reduce lag, since same processor as D1.
no one misses Voice Command?
I used it extensively, but it is a fail on the Diamond 2. I have it installed and mapped to a button, but the precision in which you have to time the length of holding down the button is unreal. I did have it successfully mapped to a today screen shortcut on spb mobile shell 3, but found mobile shell 3, or the way i had it setup, very unstable and was causing many graphical issues, but not performance issues. (there were lines on screen, some items showed up as totally black (ie no icon)).
If you want voice command back, i recommend you search for one of my earlier postings on how to enable this. it is much easier to enable if you can jsut press a button on the taday screen of SPB MS, works like a charm.

This thread is for discussion among those of us TD2 users who have dumped, or might dump, TF3D in favour of either another Today screen replacement or the stock WinMo 6.1 Today screen.
Thus far I'm finding the TD2 a hell of a lot more usable without TF3D. Little things like being able to use a lock password with a 15 minute delay, getting auto-Capitalization when writing texts are good, along with a much faster phone, much less memory usage and....it even seems I'm getting better battery life.
Most of the bugs people are reporting are actually TF3D issues which are resolved by ditching TF3D.
So has anyone else taken the plunge and gone back to the standard WinMo6.1?
I used to installed Ultimate Launch then Spb Mobile Shell in my original Diamond. Now I am using TF3D in my Diamond2. I wish Mobile Shell 3 may upload a more bug free version for the new device such as HD and Diamond2 and I may switch back to Mobile Shell. Perhaps WM6.5 release may change my plan and look forward to what HTC still put their manila on top of those WM6.5 device.
As I said, the thread is for people who are NOT using TF3D.
Personally I think WM6.5 will render TF3D completely redundant by handling the one thing it's good at - gloss.
Another thing I've noticed about not using TF3D is that the phone's response to tilting it to landscape and back is a lot faster.
My case as well: I've got the feeling that TF3D is more like a heavy bag.
As soon as I deactivated, the phone became easier to be handled and plus, presenting extra memory/battery resources as well.
However, a Launcher is very much needed, since neither the TF3D, nor the WM's Today screen don't offer the possibility to get to your action choice with only one button-tap.
Is there a good free launcher which can do that?
cheers!
I'm finding judicious use of which apps you put into the Start Menu helps a lot - the apps I use on a daily basis are all there, others I can get to via their presence on the Today screen, such as Tomtom.
The start menu seems to appear quicker than the TF3D one does as well.
Another thing I'm liking is the Today plugin for the RSS reader - TF3D2 didn't seem to handle RSS alerts well, when you acknowledged them it didn't take you into the RSS reader.
Best of all though is the fact I can now password protect my phone properly and delay it for 15 mins so I'm not badgered for the password all the time.
I'm finding that I don't need the stylus much either, despite the smaller menus and so on.
I just can't get over the extended battery life and improved memory usage though!
Without TF3D and three apps running (calendar, contacts and file explorer) my memory is loaded only 38%.
With TF3D it never went under 50%.
As for the battery, I can only say that it seems that lasts longer, but I didn't really seriously monitor it.
I was using PointUI Home2 free version on my Diamond, it's great. Less memory usage, and huge customisability. I had 5 "tabs" with the homescreen (see attachment) calendar & tasks, comms, stock, and weather. Worked great.
The default Home2 theme is a little mucky, but there is a huge range of alternative themes. I made a nice black one that suits the diamond.
If I get rid of TF3D then
- can I alter by normal threaded SMS for to show more than 1 line that I have typed in my new reply (like TF3D does)?
- can I still create push internet sites without TF3D?
- will the hardware button for program files still work? Will this take me to the same screen?
Can I exit TF3D without disabeling it just to check out how things look?
I have disabled and tweaked so much of TF3D that I am also thinking that it is going to be off my device with the 6.5 ROM anyway .... why not do it now.

Assuming you mean the flag button, yes it still brings up the Start Menu, but you'll get the normal WM6.1 one, which contains your most recently used apps, your seven favourite apps you've selected to appear on the menu, a shortcut to Settings and a shortcut to all your Programs.

Just go into All Settings, Personal, Today and uncheck the TF3D box to turn TF3D off. Give it a few days of usage before you make your mind up. Don't forget to turn on and customize the other Today screen plugins to get the full experience.

My thoughts entirely. In a couple of months' time TF3D will be completely redundant anyway.
Incidentally, I've started getting right into Today screen plugins...TodayAgenda is frankly the best app on my phone. I use the Todo (Tasks) app more than any other app on my phone. TodayAgenda allows you to have your task list (with only the active tasks showing, huzzah!) right there on your today screen, so you don't even need to unlock your phone to see what you need to do next! And you can complete tasks and create new ones right there on the Today screen. It's awesome and I can see this becoming my new most-used widget.
Just this one plugin renders TF3D utterly redundant as far as I'm concerned!
The RSS reader has a plugin too, which is really useful.
Does anyone else have good suggestions for really useful Today plugins? I tried PointUI Home2 but that's more of a replacement than a plugin.
Hi Jim,
By TodayAgenda you mean the calendar inputs shown in the Today screen?
If this is so, I'm a little disapointed because it shows only the next one, not the next week ones, let's say...
Is there a way to have more than one event listed?
thanks

No I'm talking about TodayAgenda - it's a plugin, you have to download and install it. It lets you look as far ahead as you like and does both Todos and Calendat entries (although I only use it for Todos).
Also, try WMP Status 1.0, it shows you on the today screen the artist, album, track and track number that you're currently playing in Media Player. Very useful as you don't need to unlock your phone to see what you're listening to!

Incidentally, if you go into Settings / Today and highlight CALENDAR, click OPTIONS, you can set it to show all upcoming appointments instead of just the next one.

No problem. Check out WMP Status 1.0 as well, it's really useful when you're listening to music!
Ok, since I droped TF3D, I also dropped the phone dialer skin, leaving the WM one, which is fine for me but apparently it has a bug:
it doesn't show me the calls&contacts, in its scroll-down field, even though there is some information present, because if I tap, it opens the call's details window.
In other words, it's like a list on which the items have the same font color like the list's background.
Did anybody experienced the same?
Is it possible that another dialer skin would change this behavior?
I put Phonealarm and today agenda straight on my phone and removed TF3D its just too restricting. I can get to everything i need with one click on the home screen none of this swishing fingers to get to stuff.
I really don't know what some of yoy are complaining about...
Not Capitalizing the first letter... NONSENS, when i write a SMS the first letter of a sentence is capitalized..
Memory consumption.......
Why do you think this device has so much ???? Because HTC wants you to run TF3D and still have more then enough memory free to run Whatever app......
I was sceptical at first too. But if you give it a chance you will see that once you have seen every screen (without a reboot) it's VERY fast, and very comfortable...
I am sure i will keep TF3D for a while !

I used to run 2 Today pages using Second Today.
Weather (SPB Traveller) , CLauncher and SPB Phone (can't beat the options here) on the 1st Today. SPB Diary full screen on the other (2nd) Today.
Custom links to Internet and GPS Navigation complete the productive config.
I travel for business. Calendar and Contacts and the most important.
TF3D Calendar can't make top 20 on market I would say. Contacts in TF3D are death by scrolling (by default). The new D2 Dialer is more productive for contacts than any of the TF3D contacts screens!
I agree that all these other UIs that don't allow Today plugins are missing the point. People want to pay for and use specialist programs where certain functionality is important to them.

With a WVGA screen, I really wish there were a work around to be able to place more than 7 apps in the start menu. Can't believe I've never found a hack for this.
Alternatively, I love to be able to route the start button to the All Programs folder but never been able to find this either. Two simple things that must not be easy or else we would have seen them before.
BTW, I unchecked TF3D within 24hrs (a month ago). I use SPB Mobile Shell for the shell. For the today screen (WM 6.1) I use Today Agenda, Google Search, Elecont Weather (paid) or WeatherBugDirect (free). I also run all my tasks and appointments from the traditional today screen via TodayAgenda.
Has anybody tried it yet? Can they report back how it compares to the beta. There are a lot of -ve comments at the moment. Hopefully Mskip will work his magic on it like he did with the wimno version.
It might also be useful if people reported what ROM's, LCD densities etc that it works with.

You can create and name folders within spb without the use of folder organiser. Have a look at their demonstration video.
http://www.spb.com/products/mobileshell/
i personally dont think its worth it. you cant really place icons where you want. they just move around according to the space left on your screen. good graphics. but not really worth it.
i'd say they're too late with their product... They could release it earlier and change interface, but now as it is it isn't competitive thats all
i'm using the beta version now... ok, let me test the SPB Shell 3D and let you all know how it works.
Why pay 15$ for this thing when you can get ADW Ex for 3$, LPP for 3$ or even Go Launcher Ex for free??
Way too expensive...
Hey guys, i have just tested SPB Shell 3d version. Finally the problem from beta version 5.0 has been solved! When use 5.0 each time you connect to pc to tranfer file, it will prompt you to reload SPB shell again and again! Now it works fine.
In the Calander, problem solved too. In beta, you cant add in any upcoming event even you click on add. But now it is working.
Now it is well-organized. Very nice to use. However, the only problem i found is that when you click the center button so you get all the page go around in 3d which is very cool. However, when you move it 1 by 1, actually the home menu button of the current page doesnt really follow. eg, you move to travel page, but the home menu button still at calandar. When you select travel page to maximize, you will get calandar page instead.
That's all i found.
The icons not 'sticking' to one spot can be a pain, but is manageable.
3D carousel can be quite dizzying at times but now the tiny indicator light does move from home screen to tell you where you are.
I like the weather app and I like the 'update on free connections only' option. I have Internet pass through (an essential requirement as I have no data plan) and it looks as if it updates weather whenever I use it.
It is still very new for me (I have only had it on for 6 hours now) but I am an old WinMo SPB Mobile shell user. I now have SPB Shell3D 1.0.3.
SPB Widget choice is limited. One thing I really miss is MSkip's themes and Icons, but it is early days and perhaps he is already busy on something.
Don't waste your time and money with SPB 3D, it's worthless. With some exceptions the app looks old, like is an app from 2008, not 2011. The 3D caroussel looks nice but it's just not suitable for frequent use... the weather panel is also nice but this is where nice stops. Nothing else in this app is really impressive, just regular features you'll find in every similar app. I preferr to use Fancy Widget with its nice 3D transitions between screen, than the old looking SPB.
