OK, I'm a complete noob at this :L and I've been looking everywhere for the simplest way to root my x8.
Can some one please tell me step by step what I'm supposed to do, and explain what is happening/ going to happen during the process.
And could you also if possible tell me when I'm supposed to install apps like titanium back-up etc during the process too.
Thank you in advance for all the help you give.
Jamie.
My phones specs are as follows:
Firmware version: 2.1 - update1
Kernel Version: 2.6.29
Build number: 2.1.1.A.0.6
Download from this forum superoneclick and use it, or download x8flash tool.

I tried all of the things explained in the guide which is good, dont get me wrong but now I have a problem with Superoneclick... I check the drivers and this comes up:
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Not Found.
^ Any idea's to what can't be found and how to fix it?
Did you install PCC from sony ericsson first? Make sure you have the drivers installed properly. This includes putting the phone into USB Debugging mode and plugging the phone into your pc before running superoneclick..

If I remember your previous posts, arent you on the official 2.2 update?
I roooted my galaxy s some months ago to apply the one click lag fix (Super One Click, v1.6 i think, tho not sure about the version number).
I have since removed the lag-fix and unrooted. The whole process completed without any problems. However, when i tried to update to Gingerbread, it tells me my software version cannot be updated.
When i checked the software details on the phone it has the Kernal as 2.6.32.9 [email protected]8#1
Im pretty sure this still identifies the phone as being rooted.
I tried rooting and unrooting again (this time using v1.9), as before the whole process completed as it should, but nothing has changed on the phone.
I understand that if I flashed the firmware, it would remove the rooting, but would prefer to avoid this route if possible.
The phone is running stock froyo - PDA:JP7 / PHONE: JP3 / CSC: JP5 (TMU)
Any advice on this would be appreciated

Flashed again!
OK, I have flashed with 3-file JPU, then flashed single file JPY. But still showing the rooted Kernal.
Can anyone help me find a stock kernal to download, as I have had no joy myself.

Or,
This will unroot your device.

Thanks, but the firmwares I used to flash are from samfirmware. Com
I did check the link but it states to only use that method to unroot if you have rooted with their method also

Actually the bolded line doesn't indicate whether you're rooted or not. Once you have flash a stock rom via Odin, you're good to go without any root access.
Sorry if I'm being a bit dim... but what holder line?
I'm pretty certain the phone is no longer rooted, but as long as it still has this root kernel on it Kies won't allow it to update.

sorry and i know that there are many topic related about this but im just a noob on android flashing.
my phone is:
Samsung Galaxy S [I think its international]
No update through WIFI
GT-I9000
Eclair 2.1
Baseband:I9000XXJM1
KERNEL:2.6.29 [email protected] #2
Build:ECLAIR.XFJM1
NOT ROOTED
is it possible to flash by phone recovery mode with the firmware/data in the SD card?
if not are there other ways to flash by phone and not by ODIN or KIES
KIES = my phone does not show up in kies (endless connecting status) when i try to connect it via kies.but its ok on the other settings.
please direct me to possible update ways and instruction or files that i need..
i prefer the stock version than moded ones..
thank you.

Yes, there is a lot of reading to do, if you want to study it all.
I dont think SuperOneClick is meant for ICS, I will recommend you to look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028946
And then I would suggest you try option 2 in "How to get root". You dont need to download ICS, you already have it.
Good luck.
i have a P970H V10d and i have no clue how to root and change his rom, what i did found is this method:
Method 2 - Froyo (V1XX)
Required : installed USB drivers
Enable USB Debugging (settings > apps > development)
Plug the phone, launch BlackJack and follow instructions
Allow 127.0.0.1 connection if prompted by AVs / Firewalls. Read BlackJack's intro for more details.

and it's worked(i downloaded "Root Checker" from the play store and it now says "Congratulations! this device has root access")
but what i do now? how i install a new rom? (4.1+ i prefer, or anything that 4+ that not freeze the phone, because the current 2.2.2 is freeze like hell) and what rom does works for me? it matters if the rom is for P970 or P970h?
Now you just need a custom recovery and you can start flashing Roms. P970-P970h all the same jazz.

ok i runned CWMT6 from UPK and now from ADB i entered to recovery and i choose a rom(cm10.0 is stable so i will use him for now) and installed lighty gapps
and something else, is it better to update to a rom that is based on v20 then v10? or even v30? because the baseband is still v10d on my phone, and all the roms that i see here is based on at least v20(zeus) so i can install their rom even that my phone is still v10d?
Yeah you can still use later Roms. Its just your baseband will be outdated. You can quickly flash a new baseband with smartflash though.
