[Q] Why can't I install my rom? - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I modified a rom with my apps, but after I sign the .zip file with signaptic.apk, Clockwork mod say installation aborted. There are keys that I can choose before signing, but I don't know what they mean. Is it aborted because of wrong signing, or because of the apps? I changed the framework and the media files also.
Solved.

Manually Installed dowloaded apps

Hi,
I'm customized my own rom with apps peviously get from market (Premiere, Dizzler, Vingtminutes, better terminal etc...)
Some of them are already in apk format, some others ( like Prermiere) are in zip format.
As I know that the apk and the zip format are quite the same I just renamed the zip to apk.
But after the reflashing the old zip files where not installed.
So I opened them to see that the folder META was not present. So I try re-signed them with the signapk pak, but the result is the same .
Can you help please?

Extract update.zip and repack issue

Dear All,
I also tried to update the cyanogen kernel for certain times. I found that there is some packages I don't want.
Just like my previous post about keyboard issue. Does it possible for me to extract update.zip into folder, then check/remove/add apk I want, then compress it again ? like remove original android keyboard and add HTC_CIME and keyboard ???
But I tried before and error occur like failed with my signature if I do that.
Are there any example or procedures require to make update.zip like cyanogen provides ??
Thanks !!
you need to resign the zip file. Search for "resign apk made easy" or something like that on the dream forums. or like "resign reg".

[?] How do you "sign" a .zip file?

I grabbed a ROM from here and deleted some unwanted apps, and added a couple that I wanted so I wouldnt have to do it after I flashed and zipped it back up. When going to flash it to my phone I get a "E: No signature (830 files)... E: Verification failed. Installation aborted."
Im very new to all this so please dont flame me. Is it simple enough to sign & verify it so I can flash it, or will I have to flash the original and uninstall the unwanted apps via adb?
Thanks in advance.

You can sign it and then flash. Try this

You need to zip the contents of the rom folder, and not the folder itself. Go into the ROM folder, select all the files (system, boot.img, meta-inf, etc) and zip it that way. Then, sign THAT zip, and you're good to go.

I'm editing the update-script with Word Pad, then re-saving it. Is this the wrong way to do it?
I'm getting an error (Status 6) when I run my .zip update, every time.

[Q] How to install additional .zip package to MobileOdin lite?

Ok er, noob question, but MobileOdin(lite) asks me to download added zip file for the N700. i did this, but how do I get it to install? Because it is present as a .zip file in my SD card and everytime MobOdin starts it asks to download the additional file.
Renaming it to .apk doesn't work as it gives a parsing error if I try to install it & if I extract it four different folders come out. How do I go about it then?
what are them folders ?
META-INF
System
ect ect ? ?
if so its probably a CWM flashable package.
*facepalm* noob action here. Used some other file manager but then used Astro & voila! Apk extracted and installed! Done and done!

how to change app version name in AndroidManifest.xml

hi all
I want to change versionName but after recompile the app don't show in the phone ,and if I don't rename it work . Why ???
android:versionName="7.9.A.0.1_sinhhoa"
to android:versionName="7.9.A.0.1"
thanks
P/S : after many tried I had found the problem apk wasn't sign properly . I always copy META-INF folder from original apk to modded apk so it won't work.
The signature is somehow linked to manifest more than to the apk itself. If you change anything in apk except manifest, you cannot install it either way, except as system app. But if you change something in manifest, you cannot install it even as system app.
You can disable signature check or resign the rom or some system apps can be signed with different signature.
