[Q] any way to toggle 4g w/o restart? - LG Revolution

was wondering if anyone knew of way to toggle off 4g without a restart?
I know the thunderbolt and charge can do this but the revos chipset is a bit different

I haven't seen a way to do it. Maybe once we get CM7 we will be able to pull it but until then I think it's a safe bet that we won't be able to do it.

Maybe it will be fixed in the mid october update lol

With GB which will bring CM7

You might be able to do it from the lte test application (it's hidden in the phone), there is a menu to choose cdma only or lte only. Im not sure about ADW but in ADW ex you can create a custom shortcut to the app <under activities> havent had a chance to try it myself.

This app, while free and useful does not do what the OP asks, to my knowledge. This app toggles all mobile data on and off. Great for saving battery if you want to use the phone for voice and sms only.
To my knowledge, presently there is NO way toggle 4g/3g without a reboot. I believe it has something to do with the radios.
I think I even read somewhere that on some other CDMA/LTE phones that a reboot allows for much better reliability on the phone, even when you can toggle without a reboot.
Hopefully this is something that we will see in the future, but in the mean time, I am ok with a reboot.

Awesome, thanks OP. I was meaning to load SN back on after ACS Frozen but hadn't gotten around to it yet, now I don't need to. The old one doesn't even have to be installed for it to "upgrade"

It appears to run a service all the time: "ResourcePreLoaderService"?
I hate when apps do that. I don't want to waste resources on app while I'm not running it. I'll probably uninstall it for that very reason.

It seems to only run that service when it is running. I shut it down in task mngr after I closed it and I can't find that service. Correct me if I am wrong.
I tried it again it took me like 5 force closes to fully stop it. Yeah, that kinda sucks.
Hmmm....in diagnostics it still shows 10% for GPS and now 0 satellites when Sprint Nav showed 1. Anyone try this on a trip yet? Does it hold GPS lock? Sprint Nav drops constantly since EB13 upgrade.

Is this the update that is going to "block" tethering like the update to the TBolt?
Not sure. I wont be surprised if they had something hidden within the update that would disable it. Dont take my word for it tho, this is only my opinion lol

My update failed, keeps going into recovery and can't figure out where it downloads or how to avoid it. Any one else get this?
@ Lightning - Clockwork recovery gave me the same thing...It blocked it from installing.
Rebooted and came up like normal afte saying the install failed... I'm new to all this so I'm sure this is old news for the veterans here - but Clockwork recovery blocks OTA updates. I don't mind when it comes to minor updates such as this - But I'm wondering if I'm going to have to wait for an updated rooted Revo 2.3 ROM in order for me to experience the GINGERLUV??
@ drt054 - WIFI tethering works just fine on my revo. Downloaded the 3.1 beta2 google apk (right here in these forums)
Installed clean - fired up the app and noticed that I would get intermittent connection... Then I turned on Access-control and once I granted permissions to the connection everything went like butter. 4G speeds off the laptop no problem!

Update Fails, stock unrooted!
When I attempted to update 2 or 3 times I got the following error: "Device runs out of memory."
Is this update file saving to internal phone memory that you need root access to save to??? The file is 69.5MB and all of the 3 storage locations have over 700 MB of remaining storage.
After the 2nd or Third time it now tells me that there is "no new software update available."
Anyone else having trouble???
I'm getting the same "out of memory" error. I have plenty of space as well, so not sure what the problem is.
I'm rooted w/o clockwork mod installed.

[Q] What do I need to modify in build.prop to keep the latest OTA from pushing?

Yes, I know I could just install a custom ROM. But I'm just looking for the quick fix. I heard the latest OTA breaks root and makes it harder to root or impossible. Just want to get rid of the notifications for now.
Alternatively, does anyone have the build.prop from the OTA that I could just copy over so the phone thinks it's updated?

Thanks! Bluetooth isn't a big deal.
Since renaming MobileUpdateClient.apk to .bak it looks like I'm going to get a serious boost in battery life. Since doing this, 3 hours ago, I've only lost 5% of battery. I would usually lose around 10% every hour. Maybe BT has something to do with poor battery life on this phone? I don't know, but it's worth looking into. I hope it's the case.
On a side note, you may want to reboot after update, or do what I did and try to enable BT. When you try to enable BT it will act like it resets the phone sort of like a soft boot. Phone feels lighter too....lol jk.

Manual programming with ICS? 3G problems on a different carrier other than Verizon...

Hello. This is my first time on ICS with this phone and I flash phones for a living. Where I live, we have Cricket phone service. It's a great unlimited service for a flat rate of $55/mo without having to sign a contract. It's great and cheap and since I don't do much traveling, I don't need excellent coverage. I flash different Androids to Cricket daily, including this model. Anyway....
Unfortunately, upon flashing the ICS ROMs on my phone, I ran into the same problem with every one of the ROMs I tried (AXI0M AOKP, CM9, Gummy, AOKP Selfkang). Although all of these ROMs are amazing, I CANNOT GET MY 3G DATA TO WORK! This also happened with my last phone, the Samsung Fascinate. When I had that phone, I posted a message similar to this on the other forums I frequented and someone posted with an "alternate carrier data fix" .zip. I flashed it to my phone and voila! Instant 3G. Problem solved. So....I come here to maybe get some help and/or a file I can flash to fix it, if it is that easy for this phone. Also, with gingerbread you are able to dial ##PROGRAM and then call and got into a programming menu. This doesn't work with any ICS, so I was wondering how I can access the same menu in ICS? Does anyone know?
P.S. I am running on .902 build right now with Safestrap. My safe system has AXI0M | AOKP KANG ICS on it. When I run stock gingerbread, my 3G data instantly pops up. When I enable safestrap and boot ICS, my 3G data does not show. Not even once. There's a weird block with these ICS ROMs for some reason.
Thanks in advance for the help!

No there is a different one. On Gingerbread stock or any other GB ROM, you're able to get into an actual "Programming Menu" by doing ##PROGRAM call. *#*#4636#*#* is the "Testing" menu. Access to the programming menu is essential when flashing this phone. If I can access this menu in ICS, I can more than likely fix my 3G issues.

Am using the same phone and even when flashed with different versions of ICS, there appears to be no way of entering the ##prog menu again! Being battling this to the fact that i checked the buildprop and the whole firmware, but still no avenue of creating a fix! But i know that if Hashcode and dhacker can take a proper look at this, there might be something i overlook! Guys, pls where ever you are now, we are counting on you!

Try using Any cut to set a shortcut to the Programming menu.
The other solution is to manually edit the service programming with QPST or RadioComm to fix data authentication for your carrier.

I looked up phoneinfo and it's an alternate launcher for the *#*#4636#*#* menu, but as I said in my original post is that there are two separate menus. If you have stock Gingerbread .902 build, go into dialer and dial ##program then call. This will bring you to a "Programming Menu." If you dial *#*#4636#*#* it brings you to the "Testing" menu. They are two different menus with different options.
However, with that said, it's like the programming menu does not exist in ICS until official OTA comes. I've tried everything and the fact that there are no devs responding tells me that they don't know either. Its not really a big deal, but I would really love ICS on this phone.

I've flashed my droid 3 in the past to cricket, qpst, bootstrap, whitrabbit, superone click/petes motorola tools, and all that jazz, (mms needed sms fix and universal mms to work) and it had the recent slight update for june 2012 that unrooted my phone and had to reroot .... etc
when the ics mod came out without the full features I tried it (seems maybe we had the same problem does this sound) ?
absolutely no data 3g, txt mms nothing so I just flashed back to GB when I couldn't find an answer
To me the ics mod is still not worth it in it's debunked entirety since D3 won't be stable until it's cracked fully or motorola gives up on withholding....
MY QUESTION is
I'm going to fool around with a razr/maxx soon in a few days and am going to root it, flash to cricket and bootstrap etc
and knowing the real ics has arrived
when I do flash it to cricket and update it will the same problem arise ?
and if so would it be better to flash GB then resolve after ICS update..
or
update and attempt to qpst all that jazz flash it and either run into a wall
or some other issue... ?
would this way you have linked work ????
Thanks !
to get to that programming list
Hey, this is how to get to that programming menu on ics. instead dial *#*#3282#*#*. So that answers your question....HOWEVER, it seems as if they don;t even let you configure or change any of the settings. so it's a waste...

(Work In Progress) FAQ
Do I have to wipe before flashing??
Always wipe, no matter what ROM you are on now, even if it's a previous version of BlakCM.
I flashed a different kernel and now I'm having an issue, what should I do?
Boot to recovery, wipe everything and reflash BlakCM. I'll only provide support for the kernel integrated into BlakCM.
I see 'So and so" posted a fix for this issue or that, is it safe to flash that fix on BlakCM?
Please make a backup before making any modifications or flashing any 'fixes' from ANYONE. You also flash said fix or mod at your own risk..
My data [3G/4G/LTE] doesn't work, but everyone else's seems fine, how do I fix it?
Flash a Stock ROM and update your profile then flash back to BlakCM.
This ROM is for the carrier in the section it is placed in, if you have problems with data and are on a different carrier,
then you must search elsewhere for a fix or ask around to see if someone else knows.
I flashed the ROM and now I have an issue, what should I do?
Pull a logcat and post it on to pastebin.com, provide a link in this thread to it.
Be detail specific in your post. I need to know if you have modded or changed anything that may cause the issue.
How do I pull a logcat?
Check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726238
Will you add 'this' feature?
Not likely. If you want a feature added unofficially, you should add the feature yourself and post your unofficial build.
When will this 'issue' be fixed?
NO ETA's.

ALSO KEEP THE FOLLOWING IN MIND IF YOU HAVE DATA PROBLEMS:
Carbajal3009 said:
Make sure to update profile when on a sense ROM, then do a clean flash of this ROM. When it boots and you input your name, don't set up an account, choose skip. You won't have any signal at all...no data. Don't panic. Relax...then put your phone in to airplane mode for 1 minute...then switch it off and make sure you have DATA checked ON. DONT TOUCH THE NETWORK SETTINGS., this happens with a majority of 4.3 roms

It is for me.
The proper way to get this figured out is now in post two.

If you're having data problems....
Skip internet requiring parts of the initial setup, go to setting>More (under wireless and networks)>Mobile network settings>Network mode to CDMA/evdo

The voice call on GSM works, but no data. "R" sign near the dB scale. SPRINT instead of operator name.

This is for Sprint variant only.. At least for now. what variant do you have? I'd love to pull the tree and do a build for your variant as well if you'd like.

I'm on unlocked Sprint phone. On Sense Roms everything works flawless.

Alright. Go back into the settings as I described earlier, and try the each of the data options instead of CDMA/evdo and let me know if any of them work

No luck. The phone turns on, no signal. Okay, I switch to WCDMA preferred, and I got a signal with my 3G SIM-card. BUT! In the status-bar the scale shows with the "R" (Roaming) letter, and I got no data. I can not even set APN for my connection, as there is no such setting.
nate234, is it possible to add some 3G settings in this ROM?
no screenshots?
