Hey peeps and SGS owners. How many of you get the usual "iPhone 4 just works," "the iPhone is so much faster," "iPhone don't feel buggy," and the infamous "why didn't you get iPhone 4 instead?" comments from iPhags around you? I personally get them almost everyday.
Jeez, leave us alone. I mean, really? It just works? I bet you spend an hour trying to sort your music files into iTunes. I merely drag and drop. It's faster? Yeah, cause it's simply app pages. I get that smoothness without widgets. Feel buggy? Well, guess what, I customise my whole system myself, kernels, filesystems, roms. Why I didn't get the iPhone? Cause I simply chose not to.
Blah...
Good night fellas. Sorry had some boosts and it's 4 in the morning now. I don't know, just a bad day.
haha
seriously dude....iphone 4 just works
(just tryin to screw around with your head )
Problem is, it doesn't.
You have to admit (and if u don't you you self are a fag) that iphones are good bits of kit and shouldn't be flamed just for being an "iphone". It's the users of iphones who are the novices who think if it aint an iphone it's junk
But saying that my boss brought me his iphone4 it was totally dead it was fine batt was almost full and just died. I then did a google and found litterally hundrends and hundreds of posts similar to the on below
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11766746
So when ppl tell u their phone is th dog bollox and nothing does compare then show em threads like above.
At the end of the day i can see the benefits of both systems.
People say iphones work, well yes they do. But that's because apple have locked the thing down so hard it doesn't get the chance not to work. Iphones were designed for people who just want stuff to work and be simple.
People say android is buggy, etc. Well yeah at certain times things don't work as planned. But it normally gets fixed in no time. And on the plus side android seems capable of much more than ios.
Iphone is for coffee shop gurus.
Android is for people more than computer literate.
Sent From My GT-Iphone-killer almost.
Ironically, most of the comments I got from iPhone's owner is: Good to see there's something else. But then, they know I wouldn't put my money on an apple thinggy!
And I agree that iPhone is for the "Wanabe" geek as a new gizmo to show off with.
Android is for the reel geeks that uses the thing!
I completely agree with OP hell I even had my grandad trying to say the Iphone 4 just worked so I just death gripped it soon shut him up plus showed him about a dozen apps you'd have to pay for the I phone equivalents that do just work gnu/gpl ftw

Iphone is like a communist state, you're not allowed to do this and that. Mr Jobs is like a dictator, dictating how one would use their phone. Its like freedom from a set of choice. Jailbroken your iphone is like capital punishment. Are you tired of generic home screen on the iphone? Android is democracy, do what like. Everytime people saw my galxyS with all the mods, its like a north korean saw a car for the first time. Sheeps use iphone, real people use android.

Wow, you guys are sensible. For once, I get comments that are not on a whole unjust to one side only. Haha. I don't hate iPhone 4, I just hate iOS and the users. I like the hardware though. Yeah, like communists. That's right!
And then, there's also jailbroken iPhone users. They think they are on top of the world with jailbreak.
How does this thread end up in Q&A? There should be a miscellaneous section for SGS users.
I don't get all the people that claim Android's are for technical people or "real geeks". That's a load of crap, Android is just as easy to use. It never forces you into the technical stuff.
Homescreens and the notification bar are two reasons I'd never leave Android for iOS. Just makes it so much nicer to use for me.
iPhones are great and all, but over hyped. They just have great marketing.
Android are easy use but if you have to mod everything yourself, its very technical but possible. Thats why thanks to people here, most of the hard yack are already done for you.

I actually do think that android's are for more technically inclined people. The one thing about iphones is that they are simple. There are minimal bugs, and minimal number of configs. Other people can solve their problems quickly, and you won't have issues with incompatible apps and so on..
And a phone should be like its user.. Android users are more complex

Good post, okpc +1
It's not so much that android is for more technical people, but rather, it's for more adventurous people. Sure, the iphone has its jailbreak, but even the freedom that affords is limited. With android, the potential for personal customization is as limited as your uber-geek skills.

It's simple if you have apple gear.. The moment you have any flacs or other formats, things get tricky.
I came from an iPhone and the Galaxy S is my first Android device.
iPhone, well generally it works but it's really tied down... until you jailbreak it and throw all sorts of funky stuff from Cydia/Rock with fancy MobileSubstrate stuff. But it's still very uncomparable to what Android has to offer once you do the customizing.
Android in general(I guess?), is for generally more technically inclined or as someone mentioned, adventurous personals. I've seen friends with an Android device and let me tell you, they are MOSTLY very heavily modded with custom ROMs/Kernels... you name it!
So an Android device by itself, is like a jailbroken iPhone. A rooted Android with custom ROMs/Kernels is... asdfghjkl;kjhgfd - sorry, I was wiping jizz off my keyboard.
When iphone users look at my galaxy s they normally say "it's very like the iphone" to which I always reply "yah it is....... Only better"

Good that people have a choice nowadays ....
There was a time where no smartphone could compete with the iPhone, even after it been over 2 years on the market.
But you can say whatever you want about Apple .. they have a very sophisticated sense for clean and functional design. Be it the hardware or the software. They have very strict design guidelines, and thats the reason the apps are often looking more polished.
So, for people who are very visually-orientated, iPhone would be a natural choice. For the tech-savy folks, Android is the clear winner.

Oh yeah, I was a iPhone user as well. Dated back to iPod Video era, then to iPod 2G, iPhone 3GS, but I skipped iPhone 4, that's when Android came in. People start to realise that there are other smartphones worth keeping, not symbian btw.
Here's the article: http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/nokia-our-first-priority-is-beating-android/
My first thoughts were....hahahaha! In their dreams.
Open source can't be beat, simple as that. But Google do need to come up with a better strategy for implementing their OS on the devices otherwise fragmentation will drive potential customers away.
In my view WP7 is a step backwards, the UI is horrible with home being filed with tons of tiles that you have to scroll through, no real multitasking, locked down like iOS etc, and now Nokia thinks that this move will beat Android. Are they that arrogant?
I did a speed test comparison between DHD and HD7 and WP7 got its ass smacked, it loaded apps/games much slower.
They should of made a better version of N900, that was not a bad phone but could of been a monster.
Your thoughts?
The day that Nokia has dominance over Android, I will get an iphone. I currently own the 1 and only Evo 4g, rooted, stock. (wireless tether of course).
yeah i think nokia is making a bad move
lol good old nokia trying to make a comeback...
I honestly don't know who even carries Nokia phones anymore They once made really nice phones. Windows mobile or phone 7 or what ever they are calling it this year is in the same boat imo. I carried wm since the HTC 8125. And year after year I pationatly waited for ms to get it right, and they never did. It did get better in terms of reliability but I still had to reset my tilt 2 a few times a week.
I think the team up could be good for them but I could care less.
To me, It's like 2 old men in your neighborhood teaming up and thinking they are gonna take back that snow shoveling biz that they had when they were kids all the while everyone already has the youngsters down the street with their self propelled snow blowers that knock out the jobs in no time.
They pissed off most of us loyal wm folks along time ago and you know how that saying about screw me once, screw me twice goes....not gonna happen to me.

Speaking of steps backwards hows the whole no GPU accelerated UI treating you guys? I'm loving having a homescreen that doesnt look like an iphone ripoff. Nokia has an astounding market share in the European market, they have the power to help drive WP7 much higher. Call it a step backwards if you'd like. It's nice to not have to flash a new rom at least once a week to have a functional phone.
I like Nokias phones. My brother has the n8 and the camera is amazing! hopefully this works out and I'll get a nokia with a xenon flash

There it is, that's what I was waiting for.
UI is hardware accelerated on 2.3 and up, even 2.2 can have it with a minor file modification. How the no copy/paste going? Or hows the whole can't edit a email when forwarding going? When M$ bring out an update will you jump around like a little schoolgirl and call it innovation? C'mon man, the OS is seriously lacking the most important features, it's shameful.
Sure stock UIs layout is slightly like iPhones but looks nothing like it though. You see, I can make the UI looks how I want which fits my needs, not what a few guys think it should be.
Flashing ROMs has nothing to do with having a functional phone, it's only to improve it further and bring out the potential.
Nokia may help with a few sales but many longtime fans will turn around and look elsewhere for a phone to fulfill their needs.
Nokia wont ever beat android

Important features? in the 2 years I had android I can not remember a single occurrence in which I used C&P or needed to edit a forwarded email. Would it be nice? Sure. Is it necessary? Not at all. The point is while android has these features most of them are haphazardly thrown together and hardly functional where what WP7 has (even though it is lacking some features) truly works without having to jump through hoops. GPU acceleration is possible apparently on 2.3 plus but due to fragmentation and other issues it isn't implemented. If you can truly say the vibrant with its impossible lag or the dodgy touchscreen on the cliq or any of the other ill built phones were functional before custom roms your much more prone to fanboyism than I. It's nice to have a phone that really works, android was a low-end alternative to the iphone, putting it on high end devices is like throwing a Chevy cavalier engine in a lambo, it just makes them look bad except to the community thats always flashing roms which frankl, I dont have the time for any more.
I think Nokia partnering with Microsoft to make WP7 phones is a dumb move. Elop was quoted as saying Nokia is like being on a burning oil platform in the North Sea. So what he wants to do, is to jump onto another burning oil platform called WP7? I think it's entirely due to the fact that Elop is a former Microsoft exec!
I wasn't at all surprised, when I read an article yesterday that said investors were so upset with the news that Nokia stock price fell 14% and many Nokia employees were so upset, they used flex time and left work early.
What I think Nokia should have done, is partnered with Google and used Android. These new phones should be supplied with some kind of proprietary libraries or emulation that only works in Nokia phones to allow existing Symbian apps to run seamlessly. That way, it would provide a practical upgrade path for existing Nokia phone owners. This worked great for Apple when they went to OS X which was a completely different UNIX-based architecture, but used Rosetta to allow old PPC Mac OS apps to run. They could even market a play on words with Symbian related to symbiosis.
I just don't see how going to the smartphone platform with the least market share will help matters. WP7 has less market share than even old WinMo 6.x according to current stats.

Your whole argument is based on the foundation that WP7 in 4 months didn't sell as much as WM did since 03? Really? Ya don't say? Their choices were either be just another fish in the android OEM pool that would have received no more attention and no more rights than any other or be THE manufacturer of WP7. Really though, why would you jump from marketing symbian to marketing some re-skinned version of android... that's like jumping from Windows ME to windows Vista. They're both buggy and both require tons of modification before they're usable. Android only sold because it was marketed by google and essentially looked like a low-end iphone for every carrier. WP7 is innovation, it currently lacks a few basic features but what it does have works and thats more than any other OS except iOS can say and honestly, who wants those hardware limitations and ugly UI?
Well, we all know what Vic Gundotra thinks about this...

No, my whole argument is based on WP7 being a sales FAIL. The comparison to WM is only a point of reference, because it's generally well accepted that except for a few fanboys, nobody likes WM.
No, their choices were to use Android, a product that people actually WANT, vs WP7, a product that nobody wants. It doesn't matter how awesome or innovative you may think WP7 is, if nobody wants it, nobody's going to buy it. So if Nokia wants to make money, and unless I'm mistaken, but all companies exist to do one thing and that is make money, they should choose the platform that makes money rather than one nobody wants.
You're saying iOS has an ugly UI? Compared to WP7? Seriously? For most people I know (and according to sales figures, most people worldwide), the UI is what turned them off to WP7 and drove them to Android or iOS.

This is basic functionality I use most days. Even if I used it monthly the whole point is that when I need it it's there, thats the power of android. You don't need all the features every day, but when you do need it its all there ready.
I will take a speedy UI and no c&p over the opposite any day. No one dropped wp7 and turned to Android or IOS because of the UI. No one has used wp7 because they're a fanboy of either of the other oses and think anything else is wrong. Wp7 in its first poor iteration has a more complete feeling than any of the 30ish Android devices I've owned and that's just sad. Wp7 is small now because people fear change regardless of how much smoother the user experience is.

Not true. The only fanboys I know are on this site. I've recently talked to many smartphone n00bs who are getting a smartphone for the first time. Just from playing with the phone in the showroom, they narrow it down to Android or iPhone. WP7 is never even considered. Some people will switch from Android to iPhone and vice versa. People on this forum excluded, I don't know anyone who has even considered going from iPhone to WP7 or Android to WP7. Even my wife, who isn't even remotely a fanboy, has no interest in WP7 simply because she doesn't like how, "it looks so plain and boring". Maybe people would love WP7 if they actually used it for awhile, but Microsoft can't even get them through the door, much less reel them in.
Wp7 needs a mascot like a bald guy in a turtleneck or a little green robot. Then it would be srsbiz.
Just wondering if there is a lot of people here that have had the iPhone prior til an android device. How do you like the transition?
I have had the O2X for a month and i can say that i really miss my iPhone So much more smooth, fast, battery life... And if anything goes wrong you have the iTunes backup so you dont need to be an expert til reflash with NVflash and you dont loose all your apps and settings...
I'm using a Motorola Milestone/Droid, and I really don't miss my iPhone 3G. The thing was horribly slow. Zero multi-tasking. Screen resolution was very low compared. Hardware wise, it was a real improvement. I'm running at 1GHz now with CM7.
In the software front, I really like, and prefer, how Android handle things. Apple is too control freak. I want emulator and ****!
But I have to say that the lack of proper backup in Android is really lame. iTunes can be really slow, but at least it does a proper sync and backup.
There is absolutely nothing like it in the Android world. Google has to improve its game!
Yes i do miss my 3gs apps on android are really ugly android has a lot of problems but, wanted a bigger screan so here i am using noveka rom 2.2 with honeycomb theme and have android only for
1 month flashed like 30 different roms but if iphone 5 or 4s what ever will change the boring home screen im going back. On android maybee on ice cream sandwitch sorry for my english but im romanian

Thats one thing I will never buy and that is a IPhone. Don't like Apple due to there bringing old tech out and telling everyone its new. I mean come on Facetime, Video calling is years old but because Apple did it. Its AMAZING and been invented by aliens from a future race!.
The IPhone could have a 8 core CPU running at 3GHZ each, but will never give Apple my money knowing that there laughing at all the sheep jumping on the band wangon of every Apple product that ever gets released with the letter I in front.
There OS is closed and controlled. Android isn't the best OS about but it has Openness, yes that is a plus and a negative but I would rather buy a fone that is MINE rather than feeling that Apple have control over what I can and can't do.
I will give credit to Apple though because if it wasnt for them, we wouldnt be where we are now with technology. Also, Apple are good with updates but for me personally...
I would rather buy a £10 basic fone than a IPhone.
Google arent perfect as there just as bad because they want to make money.. The difference is, how they promote and allow different manufacturers to build upon there platform.
All Apple want to do is FORCE everyone Developers and Customers alike. Its a shame people don't see things like this and think everything Apple do is great. The IPhone 5 could have a 500mhz single processor and everyone will say its the best fone out there. With Apple announcing a game that looks like Nokias Snake and telling everyone its a brand new game.
Android is about CHOICE....
Apple is about CONTROL....

I would say, that i'm not an apple fan boy, it was just the phone i had before the O2X, and i was quite satisfied with it. The o2x was my first android phone, and i do like the google platform. For me, it was more the lg software provided with the phone, that made me go back. I know there are heaps of custom roms, and i've tried alot, but it always, seemed to cause some other problem, batterydrain/or just poor batterylife/reboots. And with cm7 which has become pretty stable, i still experienced the sound bug, and i use my phone as mp3 player aswell, so it got pretty annoying. I dunno if i'm gonna keep the o2x, I might, just to see what will be provided for it, in the next couple of months. The hardware inside the phone, is quite awesome, it's just sad that LG doesn't know how to use it, but they might end up getting back in the game.
^
its your first android phone and yet your speaking like you know how other android phones perform. you're telling us that it's Lg's fault that you are not enjoying your android phone but you haven't tried androids from Htc, samsung, motorola, and SE, im not an LG fanboy but this is my 2nd phone from them and so far im very pleased. I've been using lots of android phone and my O2x is by far the best and the smoothest. battery life is just the same as my previous galaxy S but 3x better than my desire HD.
i did have an iphone 3GS but the restrictions and the boring and inefficient UI brought me to android. and i hate i-tunes. i hat steve jobs pushing me to use -itunes like im some kind of illiterate uneducated old man. and im 22 years old.
why can't i just use my 3Gs just like any other storage device. drag and drop into a folder and then bam!
I don`t miss my iphone 3gs at all!
Love my o2x as it is. I would not trade my o2x for iphone 4 even for iphone 5 when it comes!
My wife just switched from iphone 4 to galaxy s2 and she loves it as well.
Simpler to use, drag and drop music, backups, possibilities, great apps as well, amazing support from devs, much more customisable, fun to use and great deal of learning about linux if you are into modding. You can do crazy **** with it as well: runs nmap, metasploit, backtrack 5 and so on...
I had an iphone 3g / 4 before this. I switched to this phone and i sold both the iphones.
Reasons why i like android more than ios:
- Itunes sucks! Seriously, i hate that program so much.
- widgets
- downpullable status bar ( and dont come up with sbsettings, because thats not part of ios)
- theming
- custom roms which actually add new features to your phone
- google synch, i love being able to nvflash this phone to 0 and install a custom rom afterwhich you just sign up with the google account and all the contacts and applications are back. Again, F#ck i tunes.
- iphone feels small,really small.
Things i like about iphone:
- They work 100% out of the box
- All software is/feels the same
- research has shown that people with an iphone have more sex than people without one. Works out well for me, i just say mine is better than the iphone

Well i'm a android noob then Well my experience is that the lg launcher is pretty laggy, compared to what i expected from lg 2xspeed which it's called in some countries. And yeah you can install other launchers, but for me, a android noob, I would have expected the first hand experience to be alot better. I'm not agains android, i quite like the openess and the widgets. But for me the iphone forfill my needs more at the time being. But it seems that when the word iphone is writen, ppl go "bolistic". I'm not for or against the different platforms, that's why i also said, that i might keep the lg2x to see what it brings in the future, cause i like it, but i'm just disappointed with the software lg has provided. And yes i find it poor software, since for me, out of the box experience means alot, and that feeling didn't satisfy me at all. But that is just my oppinion!!! I didn't mean to start an apple/android war, since i like both platforms.
You didn't expect a android vs iphone war when you opened this thread? you're right, go back to your simple Iphone.

I didn't start this thread
I did try iphone 4 before switching to android.
But damn it, Apple has got a really big plus on his side, i mean iOS just works. You just click and it works!
Look at the crappy thing that LG did, they almost copyed everything to apple, but they didn't learn that power is nothing without control. I personally cry when i see the shietty UI they implemented that's capable to make a Dual-Core lag lol.
I will just wait iphone 4s or 5 whatever is called to go back to Apple. I just gave back my iphone 4 cuz of the antenna-gate.
I have recently moved from the i4 and the only thing I miss apart from retina is the AppStore

Try developing an application that should be compatible with hundreds of devices, from crappy ones to the high end ones, with different screen sizes and resolutions, processors, gpus.
I don't think we should try and search for excuses, cause he's actually right.
Most of the Market apps simply look like crap. Most of the iOS apps simply have an advanced design, if you look at power apps like Titanium Backup: It's one of the feature-richest apps out there and really good. But it looks like a DOS program that was designed in 1986 like Norton Commander or, to summarize it, like crap.

ios doesnt dominate though.
Worlds most popular smartphone is Android.
Worlds most popular mobile os is Android.
Apple does dominate on the Apps though and i do agree with the OP. Android market place needs to shape up.
it's easier to make apps for iOS because each device has pretty much the same codingm just different sizes, you got two iOS devices on the market in a pocket size (the iTouch and the iPhone, the iTouch being pretty much an iPhone without the phone app and the GSM/CDMA workings) and you got two tablet's the iPad 1 and 2 (which isn't that different, the only thing about the 2 that is different is that it's thinner and has a front facing camera. That's apple for ya, make a small modifacation and call it revolutionary, yet the damn thing lacks a mini-USB port and doesn't do wifi all that well unless you are within line-of-sight of the source (router, antenna, bluetooth, etc)
however, you android you got devices to this say still operating on 1.5 and up, so, it's a bit harder,
for example, some conpanies have it right, SiriusXM's premium app being one of those, but, that is mainly a port of the iPhone app (that app looks the same on all devices, tells me they either ported it or tried to make it universal, flycast is the same way, though the blackberry UI looks a bit different)

yes but alot of people use the iPhone over in europe.
here in the states we still have alot of people on feature phones, it's all about cost really. and the fact that in some areas verizon and ATT have no service there.
I meant ios apps dominate, developers need to develop for the latest versions 2.2+
The galaxy s2 is an amazing phone but it lacks the appstore
Facebook is an absolute joke on android, and ebay isn't much better
I understand that android sell more phones, so why don't developers focus on android

Well here's a source - http://www.eweekeurope.co.uk/news/report-android-becomes-world-smartphone-leader-19634 I just thought this was common knowledge.
iphones aren't even World second. They come a miserable third.
There is also an article i read that i can't be bothered to find about the type of people that purchase iphones. Most people that purchase iphones are low income earners. And the perception these people have are that high income earners tend to purchase iphones, when in fact the trend is that they dont. Low income earners in general also think iphones are the best product available, and that is why they are willing to (stupidly?) hand over more money for a phone that is more expensive.
That is why the rich stay rich, and the poor stay poor.....that is, poor people generally have lower iq's and tend to fall for marketing and advertisement easier than rich people.
I myself am not rich, but i am also not stupid. My Android phone does everything an iphone can do (although i admit the app store is not as good as iphone app store), and i pay £26/month for a free phone, 600 minutes talk time/unlimited texts and a sizeable amount of data.
Androids all come with free sat navs etc.
The iphone cant touch this deal. Standard iphone contracts here in the UK are £40/month plus you need to pay a large amount of money extra for sat navs etc.
iphones in the United Kingdom are a complete rip off, and i must admit the people i see using them are your typical chav type people who spend all their spare cash in the pub getting drunk after work.
Business people have blackberrys, and cool people have Androids in my area

I have to agree, a lot of Android apps are not really polished and often are confusing to use.
But on the other hand you can do stuff which is flat out impossible on iPhone -- e.g. WidgetLocker.
You guys are forgetting Apple has strict rules for the App Store. Even design rules.
Looking at this discussion i am a little confuded. What do you people asking from your phones? To look glamour or to work smooth? Me I am really happy to have possibility changing every day look of my desktop and to install new apps only to look how it works on my Defy. I am really new user of Android and still learning. Whole differences between IOS and Android remainds me differences between McIntosh computers and PC's. First one has all put together and ready at once, but has not so many possibilities to change something - like IPhone. Second one is open for all range of applications - just like Android, and I like it .
Strict rules are beginning to happen in the marketplace :/ removed tv shows stream

Why can't you have both?
The smartphone "revolution" to call it something, came about by Apple being able to precisely do both: A phone that did a lot of stuff the other platforms were basically clueless about, and did it in a pretty way. Even today, the iPhone and iPad are *beautiful* pieces of hardware that are sort of being challenged by some of the Android OEM manufacturers (Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes to mind, HTC Incredible feels a lot like the iPhone 4).
Most of us are Android fans here, but don't let yourself be turned into a fanboy and be blinded by the truth, give Apple its due credit for, well, basically jumpstarting an entire industry around smartphones.
If Android is to really succeed it needs both to be functional *and* pretty. The smartphone is as much a tool as it is an accessory - denying it won't make it less true.
And to close, I'd like to point you to exhibit A - Linux desktop (I had Linux on my desktop for cpl of years, years ago - Today I use Win7)
For years on end as far back as I can remember, Linux users and fans would tout the technical aspects of Linux and how it is far superior to anything else out there. Things like memory management, speed, modularity, customizability, resiliency, etc. are all very impressive. And utterly irrelevant for like 99.99% of users (it might be 99.98% i'd need to check
What matters more to most users is how it actually feels to use it. How it feels to have one.
Both fan community and developer community (most of which are also fans) need to come to terms with this truth. It doesn't matter if Android is technically superior and super-duper customizable. For the masses, it needs to be pwetty and smooth.
The new Market needs to improve in load & download times. It can take ages for the Market to load & sometimes takes forever to download an app on wifi.

I feel as if a phone should be smooth yes, but to give up functionality for the capability of saying "hey look how smooth scrolling back and forth looks on my idevice!" is absolutely insane, my personal opinion is this being able to 30 thousand times as much with your device > "look at my scrolling!"
this comes down to another thread come up recently about android never getting hardware acceleration, which i honestly think will happen from select manufacturers (i.e. prolly HTC if this lawsuit doesnt kill them and samsung at least will pay an entire crew of software engineers to make their androids as smooth as the idevices for the sake of ridding android of the ONLY thing anybody could ever complain about) and after that happens the market will be even more cornered than it is now, android absolutely dominating every feature, actually innovating with google's money instead of sueing anybody who has ever used a touchscreen in their device, and the general population will probably open their eyes and see just how exponentially much more android can do than MeeGo/WebOS/iOS/WP7/WinMo/Blackberry and they will wonder why they didnt switch in 2010 like those who foresaw this coming. dont get me wrong wp7/iDevices are awesome electronic products by all means and they suit the simple standard "i want to open the box, play one game every week, text a bit, and call my 1-4 friends with no work" consumer's needs, but android can fill EVERY consumers needs, yes android in theory requires more time to set up, if you want to, and if you dont want to? then you dont! but the thing is android gives you the choice to make a virtual representation of yourself/your personality if you so desire. NOBODY else offers this, or half of androids features and thats why I personally use Android over any other OS. not because android is better, but because it CAN do more.

That would be perfect, but as we all know, perfection is always a goal to achieve, in reality hardly exist. Usualy you have to choose... If you want good lookin', you can have it, but often not much more. If you want something good working, sometimes as a bonus you can have good look

I don't get the crazy foaming at the mouth hype for the upcoming iPhone5 Unless I am missing something, it still is still very much going to be like the iPhone4, which was like the iPhone3, rinse and repeat...The iPhone1 was way cool and bad ass, but Apple seemed to stop innovation after that.
I am a very happy Nexus-S owner, but there are some really cool phones due out this Fall to be excited about. Windows Mango running on a Samsung Galaxy S II hardware device will be uber cool And the Nexus-Three with the all new next gen Android OS "Ice Cream" will also be awesome.
To me the iPhone needs major changes to get back into the game. Still just a screen full of app icons Ok they finally added a notification bar, about time. What about widgets ? Or total customization out of the box, without a jailbreak ? How about a 4.3" AMOLED screen ? I don't know, but to me the last few iPhone releases don't look radically different, just more of the same, with a few old tweaks added.

Apple is never going to take those requests and put them into a phone.
Let me explain how apple works.
1. Buy parts from other manufacturers
2. Built electronics using cheaply bought parts (not knocking build quality)
3. Sell updated electronic from first ever design at an extremely high price
4. Profit from all the fanboys raving over the same device only with minor changes
LET THE TROLLING BEGIN! ;D

I watched an Apple keynote about the iPhone 5 and showing the improvements and all. Before I saw the demonstration I thought the iPhone 5 would be like a whole new OS. After the demonstration it was the same tired old thing. I have an iPhone 4 and appreciate it for its simplicity and reliability and quality. But it is a tired system. Apple truly needs to move on to something new and fresh.
By the way, I love my Nexus S also. Just an excellent phone.
Your logic is sound more or less. But I could gurantee if apple released the iphone 5 that was exactly like the iphone 4 with only a cornea display as improvement, they would have the same if not more people buying the phone. When it comes to marketing, apple knows what they are doing.
They could sell someone a spoon for $10.
It would be nice to see something revolutionary spec wise like sgs2 from apple, it would warrent the pricing.
Of course the iPhone5 will have upgraded hardware, but based on the past four iPhone releases, the iPhone1 and iPhone4 are NOT radically different to the average joe blow, minor updates to the same tired OS. My sister-in-law, a huge tech geek, still uses her iPhone1 she bought in 2007, she sees no reason to upgrade to a new iPhone4, which doesn't look that much different to her. And she uses Mac Book Air's, and a MAC computer, etc...
I myself have owned the iPhone1 and iPhone3G, they were the greatest things ever back then, then a year after the 3G was getting stale and old to me, I saw the Nexus-One and never looked back, loving my rooted and custom ROM'd Nexus-S now, and looking forward to a Samsung WinMo 7 Mango phone on a Galaxy S II device or the Nexus-Three this Fall.
MIUI is proof positive that Android is superior
Loved the sex appeal of both phones I have owned but..... I got an ATRIX... will never return to iOS

But by all means try an iphone and tell us about the experience or maybe even take a look at some reviews or read the forums of some android devices before going for the buy.

I understand you very well about the responses people get here in XDA. Mainly it comes from young people who don't really have much life experience. But I've learned to let it roll off my shoulder.
The iPhone does indeed just work. It's super reliable as long as you don't jailbreak it. But the Nexus S is Google's iPhone and is better, in my opinion, that than the iPhone for all-around usability. Just don't customize with different ROMs. You can root for the sole purpose of using certain apps that require root, and I did that to mine. But I didn't allow the process to retain the custom recovery image and I let it return to the OEM recovery image then relocked it. I have a Nexus S that is completely stock in every way but is rooted to let me use root apps, which is all I care about in rooting.
The iPhone has a simpler video calling interface than the Nexus S. But once you get the right app set up on the Nexus, it is pretty much super simple. Oh...and the iPhone can't be beat for battery life. It's purely amazing how long the battery lasts on my iPhone 4. That is something Android can't compete with. The BL of Android is just generally horrendous. The NS isn't too bad, though, once you run through a few charge/discharge cycles.

after the constant irritation of having my leo for over a year, and reading the complaints of so many newer phones, I am considering an iphone.
I've flashed, hacked, ruined, and revived my hd2 numerous times, now I am burned out with playing around...i want honest reliability and a phone that simply WORKS dangit.

I've gone from iphone 2g to my first android SGS2..
The iphone has their fair share of issues with firmware and updates. Once you start to mod and flash that thing, you're going to encounter the same issues you encountered with the Android.
If you want something that works out of the box, you have to just resist modding it..

I was pretty close to shipping the thing to mskip with funding to execute his protocol for nandroid...lol.
thinking over it, i despise apple, have since the eighties and with the new crowd of hipster d00ds ugh (i skipped sxsw).
no iphone for me...
just my 2 cents going out there...
I do love my android, it amazes me with what it can do and I learn to do new things all the time. it really grows on you. I love android, but iOS stole my soul haha. I think its the fact of having an iPhone, the "bandwagon" everyone is on, the "revolutionary" aspect, isn't very revolutionary. I'd say close to 50%? of us have 8 MP cameras, but if the iPhone 5 or 4G has one, everyone will think its the most amazing thing ever.
I have this discussion a lot with my friend, we both came from iOS, hundreds of jailbreaks, bricked devices, DFU mode nightmares, the whole nine yards. he went to windows, I'm on android. the latest we've done is build custom hackintoshes, so we dual boot OS X and win7, and I always find myself using apple... I supose its the simplicity of it and the fact that its so well known, the fact that there isn't 200 different devices. an iPhone is an iPhone, in a way it is revolutionary no matter what they seem to do, and I admit eventually I will go back to it for college, buy a Mac book air. they speak for themselves, and IMHO, I don't think apple will ever be less than number 1...

Let me start by saying i am not a fanboy or a hater or anythign of those sorts. I respect what each os brings to the table. I use android and that is all i will use for the fact of customization and that i can do wateva the f*** i want to it. I have never been a fan of crapple products but i absolutely love the release of a new iPhone for 2 main reasons. The first is that, everytime apple releases a product, google releases their newest state-of-the-art product. Secondly, it gives me another chance to show my friends that my phone is still better than theirs.

I don't know, but to me the last few iPhone releases don't look radically different, just more of the same, with a few old tweaks added.
end of rant/

Text in mty sig sez it all
I was a happy iPhone owner of the first two generations, I have just moved on, found it getting stale with hardly any changes, besides the obvious hardware upgrades yearly, it is the app drawer always open look I can't stand, plus the "toy" Fischer Price look and feel of the settings and icons, feels more like a chick phone or non techie phone, more for the average Joe blow.
I think both platforms are great.
I had an iPhone all the way up to 3g. It was an awesome device for it's time. It worked right out of the box with little to no setup. iTunes had a ton of apps to choose from and once jailbroken you could change the theme and do a few other nifty things.
BUT... it was god awful slow - I never had 3g speeds in my area, and even back to stock was a pain to have to wait... and wait... and wait for it to do ANYTHING.
My buddy got an iPhone 4 and although it is sleek and it runs great - I wasn't super impressed - it was the same ol phone but now had a front facing camera.
You were still stuck with the limitations of what Apple allowed you to have - no expansion, no switching out the battery, and no control over on how your phone looks/feels/tweaks etc...
I received a Samsung Captivate for my birthday. The screen is gorgeous, I had access to the battery and could even add memory! I didn't miss the front facing camera.. and the back camera is decent.
But right out of the box I had to come here and flash a custom ROM. This is a blessing and a curse. I had to spend a lot of time (ok hours) to ensure I didn't brick my brand new device.
Skip to today and I still have the same phone for over a year. Still snappy, the screen is still gorgeous. And now I have my choice of ROMs that I can easily and quickly flash to my device. Currently I run MIUI - which to me is a blend of awesomeness... of both IOS and Android
Either way... Apple designs a great device which is designed to be "thrown away" for the next model (which has been their business model for years now.) Its a great business plan.
That and since they (Apple) spend so much time with marketing and design of a "great" smartphone - the sheeple eat it up. I'm not knocking folks who get the device. It will work out of the box and you don't have to **** around with it for hours.
I personally prefer Android devices - I get to do what I want with them and I live with the bugs. As long as it's stable enough to make phone calls, send/rcv txts, and I can check my email - I'm good.
