Hi all,
I would like to get a linux PC screen from my GalaxyTab using an USB connection. My aim is to use the Tablet as a screen since my pc doesn't have it.
I know I could use an ssh remote screen with the Wifi but is not what I wnat to do, I'd like a wired connection.
As there is apps allowing to see the Tab screen on the PC the opposite should be technically possible. Does anyone know how I could do this ?
Using an "USB LAN" would be enougth as I mainly need to get wen site hosted on the PC.
iDisplay from the market extends the screen. Similar to what you want. It just shows it's technically possible.
Thanks for answering, it looks like what I want to do. As I have a non desktop linux I am not sure I can use it directly, but it is a very nice clue.
I tested iDisplay, it did work ...
Did you tesed it on USB ?
From a non graphical linux ?

Does anyone know of a way to control an android phone remotely using a PC or even another Android phone? My situation is that I am trying to help someone who is in a different state than me with their phone. Its hard to help if you cant see\control the device. The closest I have been able to come is to install the SDK on their computer and plug the phone into the PC everytime they need help. This allows me to do a single screen shot to see but it doesnt allow me to take control of the device. Does anyone have any suggestions to how i can view the screen real time (even if its through a PC) and\or control the device?

Doesn't seem too possible, and if it is, nothing is out right now to do so. There are a lot of security issues with Remote Access programs, even for desktop computers, and a rooted Android phone is a hacker's dream if he can get ahold of it.
Hey Guys
i have to questions about gingerbread. I´ve at the moment this version installed:NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V2.3_NAND_(Android-2.3.2)_update, but i think it is a more general issue.
Is it possible the have internet access via usb cable connection and windows7!?
In froyo i was able to select between my sd card, loading and internet passthrough.
Second thing is: i like to have this app. someone knows the name of it?
Is this as issue with all Gingerbread versions? Which version is recommendable?

Is nothing else like wifi tethering. In some builds works only after the installation of an appropriate application such as "wired tether 1.4" (market, google), unless you mean about the shared internet connection on your device from your win7 via usb...
no as far as i understood is tethering the other way around. tethering is the connection of my computer via mobile internet connection but i wanna have the other way around...
i want to use the usb cable to connect my mobile to the internet via win7

I don't think you can do that. And the "application" you're talking about is actually part of the Sense roms that you can download. You can't get it on your current rom, no matter what/how much you try.

You could use vnc and connect your phone to your pc that way. But then you would see the desktop of your pc on your phone and remote control your pc.
Not the same as sharing the internet connection but depending on what you want to do it may be sufficient.

the USB tethering your talking about, is only for HTC Sense roms. stock android 2.3 doesnt have that feature other than wifi tethering.

Like MS Active sync for Windows.
Can't do it without software on PC side, so it's not possible for now.
The only reason I left the NexusHD ROM was because I didn't like how I couldn't manage connections through the dropdown menu that you posted the picture of. Currently on MDJ CM7 V2.6
to the OP, you could simply connect you phone via wifi to your home router and get internet access that way.
it imho would be cumbersome to remain wired to your pc for internet access passthrough.
hope i don't have these problems when i try it out!
I've seen the way the Atrix docks so that you can use the phone on a larger screen; does anybody know of a way to do this with our Captivates? It would be great to just plug my phone in to my netbook or laptop, bring the phone up on the screen, and use the phone right on screen.
I'm not talking about hooking the phone up to the monitor, I'm talking about emulating it through the USB port onto Windows or Ubuntu.

you can use video out and bluetooth mouse and keyboard, a mouse pointer will pop up on the home screen. but you wont have a way to get a webtop like view unless you do one better and install linux on the phone and then use ssh and vnc software. unfortunately you will get a low res view because we don have hdmi like the atrix.
another alternative (like you are asking for) is to us the phone with a computer like a laptop and use droidvnc fro mthe market and a vnc client on the pc to get your home view on the pc. this can work on linux or window or mac. just a matter of a market app and a vnc clien for the pc
and yeah the atrix is kinda lame. they could have done better with it.
I recently got a lumia 822 and would like to use it as a USB connected http proxy. I don't want a full network connection or wifi based solution as I need to keep my computer connected to the existing network but would like to be able to tell Firefox to connect to the Internet via a proxy so web traffic if passed through the phone thus avoiding the internal web monitoring.
I do this via proxoid on my android phone and it works perfect. If there a comparable solution for windows phone 8?
Thanks
The only solution available is TetherX. Its available in the Windows Phone Store. It works via WiFi that's hosted from a laptop and only WebPages work. The only device at this time that supports USB tethering is the Samsung ATIV, using Diagnosis.

That's... not really USB tethering in the usual sense at all (which does exist, at least for the Samsung WP8 phones) but it might be possible. I don't know if anybody has written a proxy server app for the phone yet, but it's a pretty clever thing to do, now that I think about it. The SDK should support it; we can do server sockets just fine. Doing it over USB would be tricky - the phone can do Ethernet over USB, but it's not part of the official SDK - but it might be possible. Setting it up as a WiFi proxy (with some security, ideally...) shouldn't be too hard.

Yeah, calling it a tether is not exactly right but I wasn't really sure what to call it. The issue with having it as a wifi spot is that it would be visible. The real reason I was looking for something like this is work has pretty draconian monitoring software. I haven't gotten the phone yet but once I do I may try to look into how the computer sees it when plugged into USB. If the phone can be exposed as an ip (127.0.0.1) via USB then it would seem possible to write an app to open a port and pass the traffic back and forth.
Thank you though.

First, I don't have the phone yet so all of these ideas are just wild speculation but at quick glance the program ipoverusbenum may help in a USB proxy solution. without a way to do this, I'm stuck with my old android device.
hi dear Z1 users, in the past i mennaged to connect my phone to my computer using wifi tethering with air droid, i want to achive that in order to avoid opening my usb flap, unfortunatly my wifi signal is too low for effective transfer using the router so i want to directly connect the phone to the computer.
now for some reason in the past weeks i can't get it to work... niether using airdroid own access point or if i create my own and then activate airdroid on tethering...
if anyone else encountered this i'd like to know, or if you know of a better more reliable program that does the same thats also cool.
