Im using stock eclair and noticed that 2d reaches more than 500 and 3d almost 500. While ive seen other froyo have score less than eclair and ginger even lower. Does it mean gaming performance is way better in eclair stock rom in terms of 2d and 3d graphics?

Ive gone through just about every Froyo ROM, and the best results that Ive come across has been with Rodriguez 1.8 and pershoot's 1.113 OC kernel.
I was getting over 45 mflops on linpack
and over 1600 on quadrant standard
Then I tried moving around alot and ive been playing with Evil's 1.228 OC kernel, which for some reason is showing less performance benchmarking wise
im getting about 42 mplofs on linpack
and a little over 1500 on quadrant standard
So what has everyone else found as a fast setup? (again, benchmark wise)
With "stock" Froyo (first version released by Paul) I could get 40.7Mflops with Lin and 1425 with Quad. Im happy with the original combo of stock kernel and stock ROM for now.

They're pretty reliable I guess, they just can't be translated to real life performance

Not so, with GB and lag fix kernel and modified prop I had over 2300, but rest of the UX was bad even games were jumpy, now i have less than 1000 with Quadrant and butter smooth UX (user experrience) and better and more stable framerate in games than ever
Let's say on PC you have great score with PC Mark and 3D Mark but you can't play 3D Tetris...
Quadrant Advanced is better in terms that it gives you separate score chart for different parts of test.
Its a benchmark that does not reflect the usability or response of the SGS .
Highest score on Eclair then with each upgrade score gets lower and phone gets faster more responsive and less laggy .

Quadrant results are useful if the ONLY thing you want to run on your phone is quadrant, because that's what it tests. It's similar to how on PC's, some games prefer different video cards. It also comes down to space/speed of algorithms..
The best thing to do, is to uninstall Quadrant, and test the ROM's yourself
i was using gingerbread from it's first leak to JVQ but yesterday i was annoyed because of low fps in asphalt 6 and i started to install different roms, kernels, custom roms, oc/no oc, governor but nothing till froyo [JSD]. i do not know why but asphalt 6 runs smoother on froyo than in gingerbread. 3D score on froyo was higher that in gingerbread [780 gingerbread, 980 froyo].
after a few more tests i found these differences
froyo:
pros
-smoother 3D gaming [and 2D -> The Impossible Game]
-subtitles on hardware decoded movies via tv-out [i'm not using tv-out to much but sometimes i really need it]
-high quality automatic call recording
-all tweaks from galaxy tuner are working
-more "durable" [installs, unintalls, tweaks, customize and all kind of modifications i want to do]
-support for ad-hoc networks
cons
-no overscroll glow [i do not really care about glow itself but i really like to get that 'hard' stop when i scroll
-no crt lock animation [still no match for CM7 which have it on unlock too]
gingerbread:
pros
-faster ui? [maybe]
-crt lock animation
-overscroll glow
-much higher cpu score in quadrand [~5800 gingerbread, ~1900 froyo]
cons
-laggy 2D, 3D gaming
-no subtitles via tv-out on hardware decoded movies
-galaxy tuner is not working properly
-street humouresque font have odd bold letters
-too fragile for heavy use [installs, unintalls, etc...]
-NO proper call recording
-does not support ad-hoc networks
i did this to know your opinions about froyo vs gingerbread.
i hope you will write some pros and cons for both of them
5800 is unheard off.. max score is 3500.. not that it matters anyways.. i see that u are biased towards froyo.. the only advantage of froyo over gingerbread is better battery life and call recording. in all other aspects looks, performace, gaming gingerbread holds its own ground..

5800 CPU score not total score. [shown in Quadrant Advanced]
gaming better on gingerbread? why are u saying this?
try ashalt 6 and you will see difference in fps between froyo and gingerbread.
Hey guyz please hep me out... i use a lot of apps and games on my phone..So CAN anyone suggest me the best and most complete gaming rom...THANK YOU
you can find the ultimate release of miroslav.. SDLv4 with 2.6.35 kernel now I've using the new oxygen ROM and I've played PES2012 and I can talk that it works very fine
Stock 2.1 ROMS have better fps and non-skippy frames in games
PCF's .32 CM7 also has good fps, but frames are a little skippy
All other custom roms (don't know about ICS) have skippy frames, so games look laggy
take zenonia3 as a bench mark use 2.1 2.2 and 2.3, set all to 710mhz perf and see which lags more. on 2.1 its very slow 2.2 aint that bad but on 2.3 i can compare mine to a iphones

PCF CM7 v4 with .32 kernel is best for me.
Is there anyway to make GB's 2D performance like miniCM9's 2D performance?
Because ICS's 2D is 2x better...
You mean that smooth scrolling?

No... I forgot to mention about when playing 2D games.
When I was playing OSU!, it was very smooth on ICS even with high settings except HD setting.
Too bad, miniCM9 is draining my battery and eats RAM, that's why I reverted back. Anyway, scrolling on PrimeHD is great.
