I installed Gingerbread using Odin and it worked fine. Now I want to install CM7 but realized I forgot to root the Tab first. Ooops... How does this happen?
I am trying to root with Superoneclick 2.1.1 but it keeps locking on step 6. Then Superoneclick shows (Not Responding).
So after install here it is;
Galaxy Tab as GT-P1000
Firmware 2.3.3
Baseband P1000XXJPZ
Kernal 2.6.35.7
Build GINGERBREAD.XXJQ1
I used Odin 1.3 for the install and I am trying to root using Superoneclick 2.1.1. I assume my issue is that I did not root first. But if you think I can still root now and just need some help, that would be great.
I don't think SOC works on Gingerbread (yet). You'll need to flash Chainfire's rooted kernel.

Try SuperOneClick, downloadable from XDA, or flash Chainfire's CF Kernel (also available in XDA)

Hi,
I have an AT&T captivate android galaxy S smart phone. I was running 2.2 root. Today I am trying to put gingerbread 2.3.3 on and ran into problems, don't think I have the right files!
I now have 2.1 on the phone.
Model number
I897
Firmware
2.1-update 1
Baseband version
I897UCKF6
Kernel
2.6.29
Build
ECLAIR
build number under phone
10.06
Can you tell me how to get gingerbread 2.3.3 on my phone with instructions?
I do have Odin Oneclick Flasher, and Odin Oneclick Downloader.
The reason I don't use Kies mini and get the AT&T updated gingerbread 2.3.5 is because I did that with my husbands phone (same phone as mine) and we were NOT able to root it. I have read most everything around here and it seems that there are no possibilities to root GB 2.3.5 but I find things that say we can root GB 2.3.3.
Using SuperOneClick didn't work for GB 2.3.5 it was hanging on waiting for device I followed instructions I found on here about that and it didn't work.
Please can you give me a link to a GB 2.3.3 file that I can put into Odin Oneclick?
Thanks
gramme
You didn't read almost everything...rooting 2.3.5 is the same as any gingerbread...
You'll have to use the fugu kernel swap method.
Flash fugu kennel with Odin, that will boot loop.
Use button combos to boot back into download mode and flash a compatible kernel (kk4 most likely) once that's booted you'll be rooted.
Is there a way to update a Samsung captivate to 2.3 without a USB connection because my USB port on my phone doesn't work. Please help me and I charge my phone using a battery charger.

Nope...you need to flash bootloaders which can only be done in download mode, using a usb. sorry.
I think mobiletechvideos.com has replacement Ports

everything still applies
Wow, that sounds great to me except I just did a search of this forum for fugu kernel and only got this post! Is there another forum I should look for that on or do you have a link for me to download that kernel?
Thanks again appreciate your time

fugu kernel
Hi all,
I have a notification from AT&T that I can now update my Froyo Captivate to Gingerbread.
I am currently rooted (Even if rooted, I am not using any custom roms.. and I don't seem to need any.. I am happy with what has come with Cappy. I rooted it just to sideload the apps as it comes disabled in Froyo by default)
My question is: If I use the Kies and update my Cappy to gingerbread, will I be able to sideload the apps as I do it now?
As I am rooted, will it create any problem updating it to gingerbread using Kies?
I just updated to gingerbread yesterday using kies mini, and after I did the "Allow Installation from non-Market Sources" was visible. I think thats all you need for sideloading. You will lose the Root, but like you said you don't need it.
I'm not sure if beeing rooted will affect kies, I was on a custom rom so I used a oneclick back to stock and then kies
thanks t-roth for the response. How is your experience with new stock GB?
Does anyone knows if I am rooted, I can directly go to the Stock Captivate GB using the Kies Mini

If your rooted phone can connect to Kies, you can install the update.
Thanks Bruce. I will try that out..
Probably the last question. Am I going to see huge performance change moving from Froyo to GB?
I was rooted and Kies had no issue with my phone being so. It left me root-less after the fact, and I felt naked. The number one reason you SHOULD want to be rooted is to get rid of the freaking still-born garbage AT&T thinks we should endorse and like. As far as actual side-loading...I was unable to get the Sideload Wonder Machine to work. But I didn't sweat it because I quickly sought Root. Some of the more powerful utilities require root, but for the casual user, you probably won't want to be messing about in system folders anyway.
You say you "quickly sought root", but did you find it. I tried the 2.3.5 upgrade and as noted it left me able to load non-market apps ok but I was root-less. I haven't been able to root the KK4 upgrade and since I live and die with my Root Explorer and TI Backup I NEED the root. Z4 Root wouldn't work and neither would any of the 3 versions of Super 1-Click that I have (1.6.5, 2.1.1 & 2.3.1). If you were successful, what did you use?
I think it depends on how you enabled the side loading of apps. I'm not on the official gingerbread but that's what I think.

use the newest version of super 1 click root.. duh.
or look up the fugu mod root method. odin flash fugu root kernel, let it bootloop once, then odin flash your stock kernel again... or a cwm based kernel for your android version (kk4)

Does anyone have a suggestion how to root a Note with version N7000XXLA6?
For your information:
- SuperOneClick don't work.
- DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0](zergRush Exploit) don't work.
Any suggestions?!?

As I read in this post, you have to flash an older stock rom, root it, then flash the new stock rom using mobile-odin with keep root option on.
Text from the post:
"As New ROMs are not direct rootable, you cant root it direct method like Zergrush exploit or CF-Root, If you want such new ROMs Rooted, You shud have currant Older ROM installed, If you are not rooted and flashed Newer ROM, first downgrade to older ROM as above said.then you may update n Root it with one of following two methods."
XXLA6
i want also root my note
Baseband Version : N7000XXLA4
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
KERNEL: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA6-CL907341 [email protected]#2
anyone how and what to use
As jellevanb wisely stated... This thread holds the answers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
I was on La6, flashed KKA with PC Odin, then used CF-Root for KKA (props to Chainfire for his amazing work) then flashed LA6 on-device using CWM Manager that was installed with CF-Root. Now I have La6 with root
I also was on LA6, flashed AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.tar with PC Odin then used CF-Root-SGN_XX_SER_LA6-v5.0-CWM5. It worked for me.
The easiest way to gain root would be this:
