Sprint CDMA model.
attached is a screen shot of what i'm running.
my device was rooted already when i bought it.
I downloaded rom manager premium and when i try to install clock work mod, it asks me if it's a "samsung galaxyS i9000 or i9000 (MTD)". which do i choose?
when i choose the MTD version it says "samsung galaxys i9000 (MTD) does not have an official supported clockworkmod recovery yet. have you installed a cwm based recovery manually?" when i choose "no" it then says "sorry rom manager will not work"
I'm basically wanting to install custom roms or themes and use wifi tether, none of which are working right now.
also, i AM new to this stuff. I have only rooted my old evo4g in the past.
thanks!

Rom Manager doesn't currently have a working version of CWM for the Sprint Tab. Check the Development section for Rodderiks Sprint Mega Dev thread where you can find a working CWM, pre-rooted and deodexed stock roms etc.

I would like to ask anyone who did the flash or has some background knowledge:
1) How is the HSUPA (Mixed answers on the thread) is it not functional, faster, Slower? possible speed test?
2) is the Touch wiz UI the same or is it too, updated?
3) I read that the native android tethering on it is being "controlled" by AT&T, prompting an agreement with at&t for charges, is that true?

If it is an att stock rom then no hsupa is not enabled as att doesn't support it for this device.
Not sure about touch wizard.
Yes it is true as att doesn't allow tethering without a plan.
So can you install clockworkmod recovery properly in I897UCKF1? I'm rooting and using Rom Manager to flash the recovery but Captivate doesn't show up in the options, just i9000 or i9000 mtd. Do I choose i9000 mtd, or do I have to flash Froyo 2.2 first?

Only after you use Odin to flash the Beta 2 Kernel can u get to CWM Recovery. Just follow Steps 1, 2 & 3 and u will be good to go...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14801786&postcount=1
Step 3:
Flash the full rom via ClockworkMod Recovery. (not from rom manager!)
anybody having problems with the GPS since flashing 2.3.3?
I'm currently using KF1 and the rom is running well but my GPS is even worse than it was with stock froyo now.
All of these issues are covered in the related ROM threads in Dev.
I want to do a full backup of the Galaxy Note N7000 (KJ4) but when I try it tells me I need to download and install the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery".
So I click "Install and it pops up a box asking me what phone I have...
It suggests 5 different Samsung phones but NOT the N7000 (what I have)...
It suggests:
Samsung AT&T GalaxyS2
Samsung Epic 4G Touch
Samsung Epic4G
Samsung GalaxyS i9000
Samsung GalaxyS2 (My guess is that this one should suffice??)
Which one should/can I use to backup my stock ROM?

I guess you are using ROM Manager?
I would follow the instructions in the development forum to installs Chainfire's CWM kernel and manager.

I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing...
I just want to backup my phone so that I have something to fall back on if I decide to load for instance this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348125 <== ICS Theme
I I have rooted the phone already using the zergrush SuperOneClick, but I dont think I'll be loading another ROM. At least not until after the proper ICS is released...
ok read more of that post (I presume you mean this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784 )
I hope that's not my only option... because that custom kernel and custom CWM etc business is way too much customization for my tastes (this early in the game anyway)
I really only want to insert some custom Theme stuff, and before that do a full backup.
As far as I'm aware, on most Samsung devices, CWM *requires* a CWM compatible kernel to work, so whether your use Chainfire's CWM manager, ROM manager, or N.E.Other method you will still be flashing a new kernel at some point in order to get CWM onto your Note.
The easiest method to achieve this, IMO, is to follow the instructions in Chainfire's thread.
Regards,
Dave
So the only way to do a backup of ROM and Kernel is to first replace the kernel with a modded one first..?
umm so how do I restore the original one if I have to wipe it first??

You can restore to the original ROM using ODIN. Using ODIN you can restore everything including the kernel
Hi guys, I'm new here and have been scouring the forums on how to do things but I keep getting caught with uncertainties.
I have an i896 Samsung Galaxy S Captivate with a Rogers 2.3.3 Gingerbread installed.
I have rooted it with no issues and its also unlocked.
What I want to do:
1. CyanogenMod 7
2. Overclock the CPU
But what I don't know is...
1. Since i'm running a Rogers ROM, do I have to flash to an AT&T ROM then to any custom ROM?
2. I read the instructions on how to update to the CM7 ROM but every instruction I read says I must have Froyo/Eclair to goto CM7. So do I downgrade and if so, how can I do that? I tried and what ends up happening is the phone's reception bars have an X and data doesn't work either. In the phone About properties, states that the baseband is "unknown". I suspect I need something more than a stock Rogers ROM without bootloaders. I couldn't find a 2.1 or 2.2 stock Rogers ROM with bootloders.
3. For overclocking, I installed Voltage Control and Control Freak and neither let me overclock, the max CPU is 1000Mhz. I assume I need a custom Kernal to do this but haven't been able to find how to do this during the CM7 upgrade.
I just need someone to point me in the right direction on what order to do all this and whether me having a Rogers stock 2.3.3 ROM causes an issue. I've done a lot of reading on these forums so its not like I just signed up and wanted to know the easy way out. I simply want the proper way to do things so I don't repeat the same mistakes many people may have done in the past.
I have used Odin, Heimdall, Odin One Click, Super One Click for rooting.
Hopefully someone can guide me in the right direction and help me achieve these goals!
You dont need to go back to Froyo, as GB bootloader is compatible. but you need CWM to flash CM7. you can use Rom Manager app to flash the CWM.
Just download CM7 zip file, wipe data, system and cache and install it using CWM. It comes with custom kernel so you can overclock it using those apps you mentioned. You can also flash Glitch kernel....
See that's what i've been trying to do but when it comes to installing the nightly rom in zip format, it tells me the signature failed.
Do I need to buy the premium version of rom manager or can I get away with the free version? I don't want to use my credit card, i rather wait until paypal is implemented with android market.
This is so frustrating...

You need to Odin flash a custom kernel that has CWM in it and then install the zip from CWM. I don't know if all kernels for the i897 are compatable with i896 just have to read. I

Ya that's what I don't know either...I read tons of threads where people with i896 Rogers roms tried to flash with AT&T based roms or i897 roms and either bricked their phones or made a mess that took much more to get them back to stock...problem is the people that have i896 roms here I can't contact until I hit 10 posts...so I'm here stuck until then...
Just flash a custom I897 kernel with cwm, once complete, yank battery, replace and button combo boot into recovery and flash the ROM. Whichever kernel you choose doesn't really matter as zip will flash a compatible kernel, the I896 and I897 are identical other than cosmetic branding.
I was on stock rogers 2.3.3.
Installed Sumari kernel. Booted into the sumari recovery, installed CM7 zip, the phone rebooted into cwm recovery, and continued installing.
It worked pretty smoothly.
okay so i flashed my phone with a stock 2.3.5 rom with CWM, but how do I update to CM7? When i boot into recovery the only option I have is reinstall package. Do i rename the CM7 zip file to update.zip and that should work? I'm so lost...
In CWM recovery you need to choose install zip from sdcard, make sure you are in fact in cwm recovery
Before you do that....you need to flash a kernel with Odin that has cwm in it...
Woo! that worked like a charm haha yea baby yea!! Thank you soo much!! i was so scared to flash my cappy going from Rogers to AT&T that it would brick the phone. Got CM7 with Glitch Kernel and overclocked to 1.4 sawweeeeet!!
Now time to fiddle around and customize!
Thanks everyone!!
Hello all
Im new to the world of LG, already owning Samsungs Galaxy phones, I'm familiar with 'Rooting, Odin, Reset Flash Counts,Roms etc'
So the LG Optimus 2X LGP990 Star I have is Android based and is currently running on:
Ginger Bread V 2.3.4
Baseband 1035.21
Kernel 2.6.32
Build Number GRJ22
LGE Version LGP990-V20I
So then the questions are:
Is there an alternative program to Odin ?
Is there a program similar to Samsung kies ?
Is there a recovery mode / download mode key config ?
Is there a 'firmware site' like 'sammobile' to download firmware from ?
Does ICS 4.0.x exist for this phone, if yes how can I install it?
I've been to the LG software support section and installed the Win Drivers and the support tool and thats about it for support.
It says the phone is at the latest version - V20L
So many thanks for reading and hope fully some one will be able to point me in the right direction.
:good::good:
Root the phone, install Rom Manager, open it and from its menu install Clockworkmod recovery which is the main tool u need for rom flashing.
Theres no ics sadly,we wait for it.
Sent from my LG-P990
you mean alternative for pc suit???
Alternative for LG PC suit is "my phone explorer", Google it. And firm ware is NV flash tool for installation of recovery mode "Do no use any app for installing CWM " you can get this tools by browsing xda in 2x forums.
I can not paste direct links,I am typing this message from my 2x.
And there will be an official update released soon.
Thank you.
Thats great to hear a possible ICS rom, hopefully official.
I'm surprised there wasn't one for this phone before the Samsung Galaxy Range.
Comparing the speed / responsiveness of the LG Optimus phone and the Samsung Galaxy S2 / Note - I'd say the speed of the optimus is far quicker and responsive - it's a nifty little phone :good:
There's another thead in this section on rooting the LGP 990 for the 1st time, just read it and the principles are the same as for the Galaxy S2 or Note.
So basically I use 'super one click 2.3.2' - probably an exe file for the pc?
I have CWM apk app installer I downloaded and kept for my Samsung phones - yes it works ok
But alternatively, I install:
1) Rom manager 1st - which then gives me the option to install CWM from within it
2) Boot into CWM recovery mode from that option in Rom Manager
No odin though, install rom image as a zip file from the ext / int sd card.
I notice there are no 'safe / unstable kernels to flash prior to and post rooting the LGP990?
I presume whatever rom I install, will erase / wipe over the original template already in the phone?
What is the best rom to install on the LGP990 at the minute, or is it worth just waiting for the ICS rom?
Cheers for the help :good:
The main advantage of the O2X as a dev phone, in my opinion, is that it is almost impossible to brick it, with the possible (but I didn't ever encounter it) exception of a failed baseband flash. It is really fool proof to root, no unsafe boot images or bootloaders to flash, simply run any known "hack" and you will end up with root.
There are many ways you can get into the custom ROM game. The easiest one was already mentioned: Root with SuperOneClick => ROM Manager => Flash CWM => boot into recovery from ROM Manager or by turning on the phone with power and Volume Down button pressed.
An alternative would be to use the script provided by Paul O Brien over at modaco which gives you a CWM installation without rooting or using ROM Manager.
Stock ROMs are available as .kdz files and pre rooted CWM images here in the dev section, enabling you to use NVFlash/Smartflash with the former and CWM with the latter to return your phone to a stock state. I suggest staying away from flashing basebands unless you have a specific problem you aim to solve with another baseband, our CM maintainer hasn't changed his baseband ever, and he (like me) uses the oldest version known to this forum. Whenever you flash a ROM, make sure your Baseband matches your RIL file, which can be done easily with the GetRIL app from the Play Store.
ICS ROMs to date are sort of hit and miss. I used owains builds, Nova HD and currently Paranoid Android. If you are fine with a glitchy Phone that might simply restart itself randomly once you open any app from time to time, can't record/play hardware accelerated video due to missing drivers or slow down if you haven't rebooted for a while you can flash away.
If you're comfortable with the Gingerbread builds atm I suggest flashing the latest CM7 RC or Nightly and wait for the official ICS update which will hopefully arrive in the next 2-3 months.

that's nifty nice quick cool understandable first info. thanks a lot. (I knew that already by searching way a lot more topics than it could be, but your summary is cool. Thanks again.)

have you solved this already?
I believe that you should go there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737 :fingers-crossed:
Just rooted my Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000M (Bell) using Root Unlock. Have superuser and ROM Manager installed (recently found that ROM manager incompatible for flashing new ROM's) Error msg - E: failed to verify whole file signature
My understanding now is that I would be better rooting using CF-Root with a customized kernel for my Gingerbread 2.3.3 build (haven't found one yet but see several options for 2.3.5)
Question: Assuming that I can find and install an appropriate kernel via Odin, do I need to restore my phone to OEM (unrooted) before I can head down the path of a CF-Root or can I install a new kernel on my phone as it exists in its rooted condition?
Any info or direction would be greatly appreciated.
If you want to flash a new ROM anyways, you can just flash a kernel via Odin. You will have to wipe everything before the ROM flash.

Do I need a kernel specific to my firmware version? Or can I install say, a Gingerbread kernel of a different version like 2.3.5? I see several options for downloads for this one, but not for the 2.3.3 version that I have currently installed. There was one link I found for a 2.3.3 kernel but it was no longer available on megaupload.
If I can and do opt for another kernel, when you say wipe everything... that includes the partition as well?
Thanks much for the reply, I'm really just getting started with all the in's and out's of rooting.
Thusfar, it seems to be a bit intensive for this particular Galaxy model compared to the all the success stories I'm seeing on later phones and OS versions.
