Tried flashing an I9000 rom over a previous I9000 rom and now the phone doesn't boot up all the way. It gets past the AT&T World phone and Samsung splash screens but then goes to a blank screen in which the capacitive buttons are responsive and the phone will vibrate once, accompanied by 2 faster vibrations.
I've tried all the different button holds to get into download mode but none of them seem to work. ADB doesn't work either so Odin3 isn't an option atm.
Is my only option to buy a dongle to force download mode?
yes, you need to buy/make a jig. once you get your phone into download mode, you need to flash the stock rom with the button fixes, as you should have done before flashing anything else.
Read the sticky and try the other method before getting a jig... might work

If all else fails you can make a cheap jig with 3 resistors and no soldering for under $1 from radio shack... search the captivate forum for 3 resistor jig
you said the 3 button doesn't work, but did you try pulling the battery, SIM and micro SD out, then plug into computer, then hold volume UP and Down and THEN insert the battery while connected to PC and pressing both volume buttons, should go to download in a second. at least mines did when none of the 3 button combination worked

Yah, forgot about the whole flashing back to stock thing since I hadn't used the thing for a couple weeks now. I'd only been using an Incredible for different roms. I think I'll just make a jig later.

Is there any reason this wouldn't work? I tried it on my captivate and can't get it in download mode.
EDIT: Is it possible at all to boot into cwm and flash a nandroid backup?

Yes because you have no 3button combo. Your only bet would be to use a jig to get into download mode. And no I would not even try to do a nandroid backup because those can cause the same issue unless you are running the same Kernel as the backup.
Ok, have made the jig and am now in download mode. One problem though, even though I have the drivers installed for Windows X64, it is being read as an unknown device. So still no luck with Odin.
Any ideas?

Try win 32 driver
Or google samsung captivate
Go to web page for device
Near bottom is a link to download manual, click, should be a link for software, click, download drivers from there.
You may have top direct your computer to the drivers, when you get the unknown device click direct computer to where the drivers are

I have videos for ODIN...Check my sig...
Ok, after about 1000 tries and getting ready to lose hope, I got it to work by holding it a different way. I think it was just a USB cord problem in the end. Thanks everyone for your help. Unfortunately, my other phone, Samsung Focus, took an unfortunate fall preceeding this fix making this win feel kind of insignificant.
My phone doesn't boot anymore, and when I try to turn it on nothing happens, I've tried to put it in download mode but that doesn't seem to work for me either. My phone is Samsung Galaxy Ace 2.3.5 and it's running stock firmware. Phone is succesfully rooted for one month, yesterday I put the file for a custom firmware on the sd card, but when I tried to reboot in CWM 5 the screen didn't show up anymore. One thing you should know is that i've been outside (it's freezing) but at the phone shop they said it couldn't be a prob. in the battery.
Is there a possibility for me to turn on the screen again or, with odin, flash the original software to make it work again.
I'm a bit of a noob in flashing and that kind of stuff.

Yes, I did. So this caused the bricking of my phone? So i'll just have to bring it to a samsung service point and hope the warranty is still valid.

have you try to reflash it via odin?
Nothing will work.....
You have to go to service center (if you have warranty)
Give them any excuse (did a factory reset and then phone didn't start )
They will never notice that your phone was rooted
They will change the motherboard and give you back
Next time think before you do something....
k - going 2 service center because its just 6 months past phone - with that excuse lets see what happens.
Hello. I am having this problem too, but pressing Vol Up + HOME + Power On, ODIn detects the phone, but when I start the process it stay in "<1> setup connection..."
What can I do?

Already got mine back from the service centre and it's working perfectly!
Hi all, i was using MIUI since 4-5 months. But it wasn't record 720p and i wanted to back stock rom. But it wasn't success for some reasons.
I have a brick tablet now. Now when i connect via USB nothing appears on screen. And can't do something (like power up, download more, upload more or someting)...
If i connect to charger, appears brick symbol on screen. If i press powerup + volDown + VolUp, it shows Power reset or unknown upload mode.
Exactly i can't do anything if charger not plugged in.
Help.
What is brick symbol? Can you take picture from it.

Make sure you have correct drivers installed.
It is possible to hard brick galaxy tab, but it's very hard. Try flash in odin even when odin/computer doesn't recognize device. If not working try heimdall. If not working use this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPSBXC72rmg If not working use unbrickableMod (in dev section, sticky). If not working..........send to repair service.

i too am in a similar position but i am not sure whether it's a hard brick or a soft brick. i have gone through the sticky in the dev section but my tab does not fall in entirely in any of the brick descriptions mentioned.
i have unsuccessfully flashed my tab and ended up with the same screen. by the time i discovered the fix the entire battery drained out.when i plugged it in to charge it drifts in and out of the said screen (screen stays for about 5-10 secs tops ) like a screen saver. unplugging it makes it dead(it does not even show the download mode screen).when i connect it to a computer through usb its completely dead...i can't even try "oneclick" .i would like to know whether its a hard brick or a soft brick coz i don't want to mess it up further by trying a wrong solution.
First of all, I'm sorry if the answer is somewhere, I searched, but I "only" found many threads with suggestions for JIG use... The three stickies of Q&A also don't present related information I believe...
After some stuck situation in odin, I can't boot the phone. I get a yellow triangle, between a phone and a computer icons. Even if I try to charge the Phone, I get that static screen.
There's anything I can do without using JIG? I cannot enter download mode (at least with the traditional way), I always get that screen. As fair as I know, the phone is still 2.1 with official firmware (i was trying to apple the 2.3.6)

I already have the drivers, they were installed back then when I tried to update the phone, so they are present now.
The problem is, I cant get out of the black screen of death.. in fact, I'm not sure if this model/version can enter download mode through combo keys, yesterday when the phone was borrowed to me, I tried and I couldn't, so I was using adb reboot download shell command - but anyway, the drivers are there.

Yes. I'm wondering if my Google Nexus S drivers didn't not conflicted with the drivers I installed. I don't know.
Well, I'll try with another laptop, if that don't work, is it advisable to use a jig connector from a "trusted" seller? I'm asking because I already saw a comment or two along the about blewed (is this a word?) up phones.
Hey mate had the same issue your gonna have to get a jig as a lot of the i9000's came with corrupted boot loaders so you can't get into download without the jig and the screen your on isn't download mode I know which one your talking about with the phone the triangle and the computer

No the jig basicly makes it so a certain voltage signal is sent to the CPU triggering download mode no risk at all

I'm not admired, because before the brick, I was not able to enter the download mode with como keys, I shouldnt be surprised that does not happen now..
Follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494493
1) Uninstall your drivers, and re-install the ones following the instructions and link above.
2) Pull your battery out for a few mins and then put it back in and go into download mode (power, volume down, home button).
3) Download stock + odin from the link above, and start odin, and connect phone to pc through usb.
Your phone should be detected -- this is where you got stuck right? I'll assume if its detected, the rest you can figure out (plus its in the link above)

That would be a good suggestion if could get into download mode Tried everything, including some other solutions that I found around the Web. Looks like the bootloader was corrupted since the beginning, and now that I need it more than ever (because the black screen of death phone-!-pc), I stucked until (hopefully) i get a JIG... Already bought one, have to wait a few days to receive it. Until then, I'm going to use a old nokia.
Jig is only option then install a stock gingerbread that will fix 3 button combos

Thanks a lot. Managed to get one that revived my phone well.
Hi everyone!
Here is the entire list of things I had done before I bricked it. Can some expert please read through and help me? I really need help!!
So as you can read from the title, this phone, the Galaxy Pop/Mini is bricked. It does not turn on at all, even if I press the power key only or the Power+home+vol.down. Needless to say, I have no download mode . The problem started after I flashed the PACman ROM, which didn't turn out that good, so I re-flashed the original firmware using ODIN. It said PASS, but then when it rebooted, the phone got a boot loop. It kept on rebooting again and again. As I have an Xperia Neo V as my primary device, this issue usually meant a wrong kernel to me. So I downloaded "Galpop_kernel_build2" and now when I press the power button or any of the combinations, the screen does not light up. There is no response.
So I tried the Heimdall One Click Unbrick, and it shows me this error:
Is Your Phone Plugged In?
Is It In Download/Softbrick Mode?
If the phone is Plugged In and Everything Is Fine,
Visit the Resolution Center in order to resolve the issue.
So I clicked on the button, it asked me to install 3 things, which I did, no luck. So I was finally going to give up, when I accidently pressed the volume up+ Power+ Home keys. Nothing happened on the screen, but when I connected it to my PC, Windows started installing some drivers! It went well, and even ODIN detected the phone (Yes, there was the Yellow Box), so I quickly tried to flash the original firmware, but it got stuck on "setup connection...". I read somewhere that this was a driver issue so I tried to uninstall and re-install the drivers, no luck.
So now, the phone does not turn on, but goes into this strange mode where it gets detected by ODIN, but cannot be flashed. I'm doomed! Can someone PLEASE HELP!!???

I did, I am on a different PC right now, installed all drivers etc. But I just realized... I think I might have flashed the Pop Plus kernel...
Since it is ultimately the low level OS, maybe that is preventing it from starting? Is there a way to forcefully flash a different kernel? :'(
Also, the strange mode that it used to go into is gone now.. I cannot make the PC recognize the phone at all now, and the phone does not power up. So I'm kinda in a doomed position right now..:crying:
The mistake was the kernel flashing. If something is not booiting you need to wipe data/cache. This works with stock ROM too.

Oh yes..I guess I'll have to go there.. BTW, what should I say? My phone is still in warranty, but I don't have the papers etc right no, since I'm in college.
I read somewhere that they will change your motherboard for free if in warranty, but how much would it cost? I was thinking of telling them that Kies did this

As I asked someone else too, how much do you think it would cost if I don't have the warranty papers right now? It still is in warranty though..
And what did you tell them that convinced them that you were innocent?
I also had a problem where i had to get my motherboard changed when i asked the samsung people they said it'll cost Rs. 4000 for changing the motherboard so it'll be better if you find your warranty papers and don't worry just tell them that the phone's not working don't tell them about the rom flash stuff they'll repair it for free if you have your warranty papers..

Yep, they asked me for 4,000.. That's almost half the price I bought the phone! I think I'm going to wait till December.. I'll be home then!
Thanks everyone for replying and helping!

the fun part is that this WAS my brother's phone(i mentioned WAS for the phone's been dead for a week )
can u please explain what did the SSC guy told you in detail???
unbricking mini/pop
try deleting all ur data on ur phone - ur android, data, etc....just factory reset it and then try flashing using odin!!!! if that also not works then use clockwork mod and restore backed up firmware on ur phone.
-_- he said he can't enter recovery or any other mode
