I was helping a wonderfully smart girl the past few days, and today she bricked herself, i wasnt available to help her but she was able to FIX HERSELF! Smart girl had a good teacher!
short story:
flashing with odin in download mode
seemed to freeze at (sorry) something like "setup connections"
restart odin and phone....
PHONE BRICK SCREEN
Heres the snag:
She swears up and down, Odin3 1.7 recognized the phone (turned yellow in box) AND FLASHED back to stock WHILE BRICK SCREEN WAS SHOWING... (didnt get into download mode)
she has flashed several times with odin and knows "download mode" screen.
ive never heard of this so thought i would post. see if any other brickers can do it..
My one and only thought on how this might be possible sometimes is dependant on how and at what part of the process she bricked first... but maybe we've overlooked something basic all this time...
let the denial begin....

I have that instances before when I was still learning to flash, a computer and a phone screen. All I have done was remove the battery put the battery back with cover, hold volume rocker both the up and down but dont press the power button then plug usb cable on your phone (cable must be already attached to pc) when you see the yellow triangle and the shovel guy (aka download mode) remove usb from phone then run odin once running connect your phone via usb again it should detect your phone. then hit start after it finishes and reboots you may a do master clear with usb debugging on in settings. I don't know if this will work for you as this has work with mine.
(note: odin will not detect your phone if it is running and at the same time you perform download mode with your phone in my part this is the process where I brick my phone) following the right steps is very crucial in flashing roms specialy when new to the process.
I am not freaking out as i havent tried jig to unbrick it yet...
but may be becoz of my build number and i lost 3 button combo when i used odin one clcik earlier...i am not lucky enough

Thank you for confirming this MAY be possible in some situations...
thats what i was looking for...
now she was flashing 2.1 rogers over 2.2 rogers when it bricked.. then successfully flashed 2.1 rogers while bricked. so rogers software may have a part, or its build #. her phone came 2.2 loaded...
i need to find out what build # her phone is.. it came packaged with 2.2

My galaxy S is bricked. wont turn on, black screen, plug in a charger and just the touch buttons light. Please help i'm desperate, Odin won't even recognize it
i had the same problem when i was new in flashing.
try this
this worked for me.
edit:
- remove battery
- press vol down, home and power
- insert battery while all 3 buttons are pressed
- while buttons are pressed samsung i9000 screen should loop
- remove vol down when screen is black, hold the other 2 button
- now download mode should appear
I tried it, same thing, dead black screen but the touch buttons are lit up
What did you do to get it like that?
Do you have the right drivers installed? That may be why Odin isn't recognizing it.
Drivers? explain please, i'm a complete noob. Odin recognized it before but now my whole laptop sees it as an 'unrecognized device' and Odin doesn't recognize it
And i tried to follow other advice and flash the original firmware back onto the phone, that didn't work out for me and it just ruined the phone even more
why your phone breaked ?

Do you have Kies installed?
What was the last ROM you flashed onto it? If it was a Samsung one, you'll need the Samsung drivers (drivers are the software Windows uses to recognize external hardware, essentially). If you flashed CM7 or an AOSP ROM, you'll need the Nexus S drivers.
How did you ruin the phone more when you attempted to flash the original firmware back onto the phone? Are you sure it was the correct firmware? Please explain in more detail, and someone will probably be able to help.

Also, if you have Kies installed, it will provide the necessary Samsung drivers. However, if you do not have a Samsung firmware on the device, you'll need to uninstall Kies, as it has been shown to interfere with Odin recognizing devices without Samsung firmware.
faced the same problem nd its working fine
charge ur mobile for some 2.5 hours or bring a charged battery
1)power off ur mobile
2)go in download mode by pressing vol down+home button+powerofff
3)if the battery is charged definetly download screen mode will come
4)connect don nd intall the firmware
would ADB recognise it when its in this state?
I seem to remember that if the buttons light up, you can still recover it.....
I might of dreamed it tho!

Short Story: After flashed new LRG firmware on my Galaxy Note, screen just went off. I know my device is alive, because I hear the booting sound, and reacts when I plug it to my PC. The screen is just off.
Long Story: I had LPY on my GNote with CF-Root 5.6. I followed the Dr. Ketan's guide for installing LRG almost to the letter. The only thing I didn't do was flash a GB ROM. I decided to take the risk, since I had CF-Root 5.6, wich is "safer". I did flash data and cache. Nothing gone wrong here. Then I flashed the firmware using Odin. Nothing wrong here neither. But when everything finished, my device seemed it was not resterting. However, after a few seconds, I could hear the boot sound, and when I plugged the usb cable, both computer and cellphone emitted sounds.
I tried to enter into download mode "blindly", but even when I pressed hard the right combination of keys, I can hear the boot sound a few seconds later. I also cannot enter to recovery mode, at least, I cannot tell because the screen remains off.
I hope there's someone here who could give me a clue.
EDIT: I managed to put it into download mode, and then flashed my original ROM. However, screen is not turning on anymore. Soft keys seems to work.

Already tried it. Won't work. I managed to put it into download mode. I will try to flash my original GB firmware. I will keep reporting
It seems I can use ADB. I'm now backing up my stuff, but I'm a little bit lost from there. Can you figure out something?
At some point at this video they describe something similar to what is happening to me, and said "it's normal". The video is about resetting binary count using a USB jig and Odin. I do not own a jig, but I wonder if I should try to flash the patch and see if work.

Not sure if u are like me, that has alot of div electronic stuff around. Because you can just make your own usb jig. just put together a 300k ohm resistor between pin 4 and 5 on the micro usb connector. :cyclops:

Thanks a lot. In the end, what I did was redownload LRG and flash it again. Also, I extracted the SD-Card (I don't know if this is something related, but I think I read it anywhere while doing my research). Those were the only two different things I did, and now is working flawless.
Anyway watever way it had, glad to hear u got your device running back
Congrats.

First of all, I'm sorry if the answer is somewhere, I searched, but I "only" found many threads with suggestions for JIG use... The three stickies of Q&A also don't present related information I believe...
After some stuck situation in odin, I can't boot the phone. I get a yellow triangle, between a phone and a computer icons. Even if I try to charge the Phone, I get that static screen.
There's anything I can do without using JIG? I cannot enter download mode (at least with the traditional way), I always get that screen. As fair as I know, the phone is still 2.1 with official firmware (i was trying to apple the 2.3.6)

I already have the drivers, they were installed back then when I tried to update the phone, so they are present now.
The problem is, I cant get out of the black screen of death.. in fact, I'm not sure if this model/version can enter download mode through combo keys, yesterday when the phone was borrowed to me, I tried and I couldn't, so I was using adb reboot download shell command - but anyway, the drivers are there.

Yes. I'm wondering if my Google Nexus S drivers didn't not conflicted with the drivers I installed. I don't know.
Well, I'll try with another laptop, if that don't work, is it advisable to use a jig connector from a "trusted" seller? I'm asking because I already saw a comment or two along the about blewed (is this a word?) up phones.
Hey mate had the same issue your gonna have to get a jig as a lot of the i9000's came with corrupted boot loaders so you can't get into download without the jig and the screen your on isn't download mode I know which one your talking about with the phone the triangle and the computer

Do I risk blowing up the phone using JIG?
No the jig basicly makes it so a certain voltage signal is sent to the CPU triggering download mode no risk at all

I tried with another laptop with very well configured drivers, and didn't worked. Still didn't detected by odin. When I tried with another galaxy it works, after entering download mode...
I'm not admired, because before the brick, I was not able to enter the download mode with como keys, I shouldnt be surprised that does not happen now..
Follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494493
1) Uninstall your drivers, and re-install the ones following the instructions and link above.
2) Pull your battery out for a few mins and then put it back in and go into download mode (power, volume down, home button).
3) Download stock + odin from the link above, and start odin, and connect phone to pc through usb.
Your phone should be detected -- this is where you got stuck right? I'll assume if its detected, the rest you can figure out (plus its in the link above)
Good luck bro!

That would be a good suggestion if could get into download mode Tried everything, including some other solutions that I found around the Web. Looks like the bootloader was corrupted since the beginning, and now that I need it more than ever (because the black screen of death phone-!-pc), I stucked until (hopefully) i get a JIG... Already bought one, have to wait a few days to receive it. Until then, I'm going to use a old nokia.
Jig is only option then install a stock gingerbread that will fix 3 button combos

Thanks a lot. Managed to get one that revived my phone well.
Hi everyone!
Here is the entire list of things I had done before I bricked it. Can some expert please read through and help me? I really need help!!
So as you can read from the title, this phone, the Galaxy Pop/Mini is bricked. It does not turn on at all, even if I press the power key only or the Power+home+vol.down. Needless to say, I have no download mode . The problem started after I flashed the PACman ROM, which didn't turn out that good, so I re-flashed the original firmware using ODIN. It said PASS, but then when it rebooted, the phone got a boot loop. It kept on rebooting again and again. As I have an Xperia Neo V as my primary device, this issue usually meant a wrong kernel to me. So I downloaded "Galpop_kernel_build2" and now when I press the power button or any of the combinations, the screen does not light up. There is no response.
So I tried the Heimdall One Click Unbrick, and it shows me this error:
Is Your Phone Plugged In?
Is It In Download/Softbrick Mode?
If the phone is Plugged In and Everything Is Fine,
Visit the Resolution Center in order to resolve the issue.
So I clicked on the button, it asked me to install 3 things, which I did, no luck. So I was finally going to give up, when I accidently pressed the volume up+ Power+ Home keys. Nothing happened on the screen, but when I connected it to my PC, Windows started installing some drivers! It went well, and even ODIN detected the phone (Yes, there was the Yellow Box), so I quickly tried to flash the original firmware, but it got stuck on "setup connection...". I read somewhere that this was a driver issue so I tried to uninstall and re-install the drivers, no luck.
So now, the phone does not turn on, but goes into this strange mode where it gets detected by ODIN, but cannot be flashed. I'm doomed! Can someone PLEASE HELP!!???

I did, I am on a different PC right now, installed all drivers etc. But I just realized... I think I might have flashed the Pop Plus kernel...
Since it is ultimately the low level OS, maybe that is preventing it from starting? Is there a way to forcefully flash a different kernel? :'(
Also, the strange mode that it used to go into is gone now.. I cannot make the PC recognize the phone at all now, and the phone does not power up. So I'm kinda in a doomed position right now..:crying:
The mistake was the kernel flashing. If something is not booiting you need to wipe data/cache. This works with stock ROM too.

As I asked someone else too, how much do you think it would cost if I don't have the warranty papers right now? It still is in warranty though..
And what did you tell them that convinced them that you were innocent?
I also had a problem where i had to get my motherboard changed when i asked the samsung people they said it'll cost Rs. 4000 for changing the motherboard so it'll be better if you find your warranty papers and don't worry just tell them that the phone's not working don't tell them about the rom flash stuff they'll repair it for free if you have your warranty papers..

Yep, they asked me for 4,000.. That's almost half the price I bought the phone! I think I'm going to wait till December.. I'll be home then!
Thanks everyone for replying and helping!

the fun part is that this WAS my brother's phone(i mentioned WAS for the phone's been dead for a week )
can u please explain what did the SSC guy told you in detail???
unbricking mini/pop
try deleting all ur data on ur phone - ur android, data, etc....just factory reset it and then try flashing using odin!!!! if that also not works then use clockwork mod and restore backed up firmware on ur phone.
-_- he said he can't enter recovery or any other mode
