Hi, I've rooted my recently updated gingerbread revolution, and attempted to De-Bing the phone. I know that if I delete Bing, I lose both Search and Voice Search. My question is How do I go about installing Google search to work with the existing rom. I really like LgHome, so I do not want to install a custom rom, I just want to have Google Search and Long press Google Voice Search on it.
Install the Quick Search Box from the android market. An easy search could have answered this.

I think he's talking about having them launch from the search button in the lower right hand corner. As far as I know, there I'd no known way of doing this without editing system files (I don't know which ones, sorry).

Hiya gang!
New member here. Thanks to this wonderful forum I have been able to update my Captivate to the most recent 2.1 Firmware JH7. I also ran Unleash the Beast to gain Root access, sideloading and to remove unneeded ATT and Samsung Bloat.
However, it didn't occur to me that the Memo app was part of that bloat that was going to be removed. Silly me.
I know there are more full featured Memopad type apps in the Market Place, however I really liked the simplicity and straight forwardness of the included Memo app. I found it very handy for jotting down random thoughts.
Sadly I didn't back these apps up before Unleash the Beast unleashed some deleting action on them.
So, anywhere I can obtain that Memo app from? Possible to extract it from a firmware?
Thanks!
Google is your friend. Try is sometimes it works wonders. I just googled what you were looking for and came up with a link to all the apk's on here http://208.100.42.21/showthread.php?t=712594
I'd take a look at "AK Notedpad". I too wanted a very simple note program and it's the best one I've found.
wizard memo in the market is a simple but nice memo pad.

Forgive me as I'm sure this has been asked.
I've run search on XDA app as well as googled, and looked everywhere in settings.
My short press search button no longer brings up search function from the home screen. Haptic tells me it's reading fine. Long press to voice search is still good. Short press search in other apps is good too.
Also, MENU | SEARCH is dead too, in home screen.
Running CM nightly 233 & ADW.
Kind of lost. Pointer much appreciated.

Mine works fine on CM 6.1
I'm guessing you've confirmed Google Search app is installed?

Just verified, yup, and runs no problem. Just independent of the button.

I'm guessing you're using CM? And had to delete the GoogleSearch apk and reinstall it from Market to upgrade? Your search is on /data. You need it on /system for the key to work. Get root explorer, or use terminal if you understand basic cd, ls, cp, and mv. Look in /data/app and find the apk for search, rename it to QuickSearchBox.apk, and push it to /system/app. Then reboot, and it should work.
Edit: I can't remember, it might be GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk. I think it's what I said the first time, but if that doesn't work, try it with Google in front of it and reboot again. My N1 is currently backing up in recovery or I'd check.
That's it, GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk. Thanks much.

google search keeps force closing
this is odd...
after uninstalling bing and installing google search from market it was working fine for a while (1-2 days)
now whenever i type more than 2 characters into the google search box it force closes.
tried uninstalling / reinstalling and clearing the app's data- no dice.
also tried with email history enabled and with it disabled.
any ideas?
I have mine working OK, but not with the Voice Search from the market. What I found was that the Voice Search from the market did not fully integrate with maps, etc (like saying: "Navigate to" came up with some ridiculous kbbb or something else, and speaking for an instant message was hideous).
I renamed the BingSearch.apk and the Bing service apk (can't remember the exact name) in the /System/Data directory (I'm rooted). I pulled the Voice Search APK out of a 2.2 ROM (specifically from my old device - Eris) from the System/Data directory and installed that (uninstalling the market version first). It integrated fully with EVERYTHING, but as of now, like you, my physical Search button doesn't work.
My search Button doesn't work with bing either lol. Straight outta the box. Nothing.

i'm rooted too. wish my google search would work when i hit the search soft key
This isn't for Google Search but it was posted for using the search to bring up the phone. Better than not being functional at all and you may be able to figure out how to make it Google Search.

The problem with that is it changes the functionality of the Search button entirely. For some, that may work, but in certain applications, that button is still a method to search (like root explorer).

Click to collapse
Its not the app. I just went through this when I got the Charge. Go to your Google dashboard and go to speech and click anonymize recognition. This deletes the voice recordings stored from your previous phone. Mine was coming up with kkkkk stuff when I first got the Charge. I guess different devices pick up your speech in a different manner. Try it and see if that fixes your issue.

Something happened to my tab's screen a while ago, where I sent it back to replace it with a new screen, but during the repairment, due to the carelessness of Samsung's employee, something happened to the search button, now the search button autostarts itself from time to time, before I deleted the voice search apk, voice search comes out by itself with vibrations repeatedly, after I deleted the voice search apk, what comes out in the same way is google search...and after I deleted google search apk and turn off the vibration, the screen would come to a state of nonresponse to any operation from time to time....
I hope there's an application which I could use to disable the search button, as I don't really use it at all, or if there's any file I could delete in the android system to do this, I am reallt tired of sending it back to samsung, which would again mean one to two months' waiting....anybody please help...
Seems nobody is willing to help here...really disappointed....

I can't say for sure but if you are running a different rom (I'm running CM7) there may be an option to disable the button... under CM7 I have an option for search key behavior, I can tell it to run a custom app, leave custom app blank and it does nothing when I press it... not sure if this helps but its a shot in the dark...
SGT+CM7=AWESOMENESS!!!
I just downloaded and installed Liberty on my D3. I got it all set up the way I want it and I'm loving it! The only problem is that I realized that Google Voice isn't installed and I am unable to find it in the market. I tried going to m.google.com/voice and I am unabled to follow that market link, it just gives me no results. Anyone have a fix for this? I rely on Google Voice quite a bit.
1. You didn't need to make your own thread about this when there is a Liberty thread literally right underneath it.
2. Just restore a backup of Google Voice.
what if you don't have a Google Voice backup?
Google for a GV APK. It's what I had to do.
This issue remains unsolved,
