I just switched from 7 to ubuntu and it freaking sucks. I ant get dual monitors nor dies my freaking wireless work. I downloaded all the freaking drivers and installed them yet nothing works. The wireless keeps switching to a wpa security when I told it it is a wep. Wtf is that crock? And when I connect to it, I can't select a wep key, only a wpa personal. Please help before I throw this damn thing out the window

Your problem is that you installed ubuntu.
Download debian or OpenBSD.
Obviously that isn't a solution

Use their forums. They can be pretty helpful.

Its very close to my phone and is very light

Same here, previously I was using BootCamp and a beta copy of Windows7, but had to delete BootCamp when I moved to a MacBook Pro and couldn't afford the 100GB partition. Now I use my sisters XP machine.
Thank you everyone,
think Im going to look for a cheap tower or laptop.
Lol lol x

You could just buy an OEM copy of XP off eBay and make a 10GB BootCamp partition, would be cheaper and easier.
I've been using Windows7 in a VMWare Fusion guest OS with no issues.
Use Heimdall.
Anyone tried using Wine?
Might be something I'd test out in my OSx86 drive, could be interesting!

KIES doesn't work with Wine, it doesn't get past the installer, something to do with the way Kies tries to piggy-back the hosts USB controller or something.
As the title suggests. I'm interested to hear what people have installed and got successfully running the Ubuntu install on the Nexus 7. Is there a spreadsheet anywhere that outlines compatible and experiences?
Ideally, wanting to know if anyone's been using Eclipse with any other plugins (specifically anyone tried FDT would be cool)
Cheers
Keep in mind you can't run x_86 applications on an ARM device... so I don't know if eclipse will work at all, me being oblivious to whether or not they'd have an ARM version.

You mean on the computer or tablet?

I see that there's an armhf Raring compile of Eclipse > https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/raring/armhf/eclipse
I suppose if you want to get even more pedantic and specific, I was ultimately wondering if you could also hook up another Android phone via OTG usb, then with Eclipse and FDT you could compile out Captive runtime Air?
I know I'll probably get shot down in flames with a "why don't you just get a laptop", and I am contemplating that too, but ideally I want/need to get a a tablet so the N7 is looking more likely. Tbh, I'll probably use Android more, but potential dual booting with Ubuntu functionality would be the icing the cake.
Been testing ubuntu using multirom. It's nice to have but I still feel that it needs to be more tab friendly and a few bugs ironed out. Boots quick and looks nice. I have also tested bohdi linux and that works well too. In time ubuntu will be a winner on the nexus 7 I think.

I really want to root my device and play with custom ROMs. I'm not exactly skilled with modding phones but I'm proficient enough. What I can't figure out is WHY. Why is it so tough to crack this sucker?
Locked boot loader is the first difficulty second is nobody has done it yet it's under a relatively new os and it will take a while to find exploits. My razrm took a year.

In addition, people do this in their free time. It's not like they are going into work, and working on this day in and day out
I'm able to use ADB from my windoz pc to view the system files on my N3. However, since they are in a directory thats read-only, I can't mount/remount the directory for write privileges without SU!

Ok so i did the HTC-Dev Bootloader unlock and root. ok so i have tried firewaters S-Off method and it looks like im not gonna have any problems Except for when i connect my device and open cmd and Type (ADB Devices) usually you get the rsa prompt on your screen asking to approve what you are doing. Theres my issue! i cannot get that prompt at all no matter what i do ive tried diffrent ports ive swapped roms i always have USB Debugging enabled . i have never had this problem before. my note 2 had no problems with its root when i typed ADB devices in cmd. but i do realise i am messing with an htc device.
all drivers are installed. because weird thing is when i type adb devices in cmd it shows my device but does not pop up on my screen!
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Mount your device as file manager and not HTC Sync or whatever
