The dell streak that i have cannot charge while off, even when connected to a PC the charge doesn't seem to go up, but when on it can slowly charge.
Aside from that when off sometimes I get the cable with and exclamation mark symbol what is that supposed to mean? (my charger is a HTC USB charger)
You should ALWAYS use the original charger if possible. Otherwise the replacement needs to match the specifications of the original. Using an adapter with incorrect voltage can damage or completely fry the unit. An adapter with insufficient amperage but correct voltage will damage the adapter and could cause damage to a device.
AC charger should be capable of at least 1A.
In my experience the problem was in cable, not charger.
I use car charger 1A wich has nothing to do with Dell, it is ok with original cable.
any [email protected] charger that's within the usb voltage specs should work fine, if it strays too far because it's low quality you risk damaging it (this is true for ANY usb charger)
dell ships 2A @5.9v chargers too, so i would expect the streak to take at least up to that much though
The usb ports on your PC put out less than half the power the Streak needs to charge properly but as said above any 1A plus charger should work fine. I use one meant for an iPad @ 2.1A, one meant for a HP Touchpad at 2A and a generic 1A charger all work fine though the Streak grumps about the generic one it still charges fine.
I use capdase 4 slot usb charger and it works fine with my streak..
I got one of those really cheap ones from ebay and it charges fine!

Hi,
I just bought a used HD2 without a charger. Seller told me the charger was not working and gave me only the USB cable. I am wondering if I can use my HD charger to charge the HD2. Of course, by swapping the cable.....
Anyone with a HD2 please post the part number/model number of their original HTC HD2 Charger so that I can check whether it is the same thing? Thanks all.....
Oh....Just downloaded a copy of the usual manual for HD2. It stated the original adaptor for HD2 is TC-P300 which is exactly the same as my HD's adaptor. So they are interchangable by swapping the USB cables!
its also the same as my brothers diamond charger
normally, you can use every usb charger.
if it doesnt work with your leo, it won't charge, but nothing should happen to your device.
DN41
Yup, it is exactly the same charger. (5 Volt 1Amp )
Same situation, changed from an HD to a HD2.
That's good! That mean any of those car cigarette lighter plug with USB output can be used with the appropriate USB cable to charge our HTC phone in the car? Don't need to buy the original car charger from HTC?
you can also charge your ipod with your hd2 chargers adapter.just connect the ipods' usb cable to the charger and plug in

i would say about 99,9% does it. maybe there are 1 or 2 out there, which dont work. but normally, all of them should work.
DN41
Yup, but check Tbattery. I have this tool in NRG rom and it shows you how much current goes, or comes, from your battery.
From what I believe is that there are 2 states and 2 modes.
The mode is actually the source to where your HD2 is connected to. This is either a standard USB port on your laptop or the other one a charger.
If it is connected to the standard USB port it will draw a max of 500mA which is the max a USB should be able to deliver.
The charger can provide 1 Amp which is 1000mA, which means half the charge time till full.
You have to know that there are actually 4 conductors on the 'big' USB connector. Ground, 5 Volt and D+ and D- (the actual data).
The HD2 knows that it is connected to the charger when D+ and D- are connected to eachother. (no harm done btw)
Now some carchargers can deliver 1 Amp but they don't have the D's shorted and the HD2 only pulls 500mA from it since it doesn't see it as a 'HTC' charger.
The state is determined on the batt's %
If it is below 90% I believe it charges at full Amps (depending on the mode) above it goes in slow charge.
Looks like nowaday, we just need an adaptor with a USB output and various USB cables to charge different phones. Not too long ago, we need to carry one charger for each phone. haha....
Thanks for all those who replied!
I use a Nokia N97 car charger and it works very well. I'm guessing a normal N97 power adapter could work as well to charge your HD2.
info & caution.
Any USB port should be able to charge your HD2 & micro USB is the new standard charging specification, so it should become really common over time.
However, be careful what else you plug in! I bought a 3.2mm to micro USB adapter. It was fine on a standard Nokia charger (which delivered about 4.5 volts), but another one which put out about 7 volts, blew my poor HD2 up :-(
I got it repaired though. They replaced the main board = new IMEI etc, which would have been expensive out of warranty! Lucky me, but being without my HD2 was kinda hell!
I have checked the voltage out of that car charger. A friend of mine tested it before too on his HD2. N97 has a bigger voltage battery (1500 mA). He had problems finding a decent car charger for his HD2. He eventually bought 2 non-original chargers for an N97 and HD2. He took the connector from the non-original HD2 car charger, he cut off the connector for the N97 and he put the HD2 connector (he is an electrician, do not try this if you don't know what you are doing). He advised me to buy an original N97 charger that should work. I did buy one original car charger and I am satisfied with it. My HD2 is still in one piece without any service calls. I am saying that a N97 car charger should work just fine on an HD2.

This might have happened to me? It would not charge with my 500 ma USB supplies (computer nor the AC USB power adapter. Nor would it charge with my AC USB power adapter of 1 amp.
So I used my HTC HD2 car charger, plugged into my AC-12 volt car charger outlet, and it charged ok.
Two weeks later, nothing. So waiting for an external HTC HD2 battery charger from an eBay supplier. Tried different HTC HD2 batteries & HTC HD2 USB cables. No luck yet.
I just recently bought the dell streak 7 for 250 of Craigslist and the owner gave me the wrong charger and she won't contact me.back I was wandering if someone would be kinds enough to many give me one of there extra ones if the have one I don't have a debit card or credit card to pay for shipping but please I just got this for my 16 birthday.and can't play with it :/
Any 1A or greater charger is all you need, if you have a smartphone charger it will work.
It takes a 30 pin connected kinda like iPod
If you need a cable also, they're like $5 on ebay

Ebay... Amazon... you can easily find a replacement cable. If you get the USB type cable you can even use the charger that came with your phones (USB types) but it might take for ever to charge since phone chargers output .5A to 1A... You will need a charger that outputs 2.1A for speedier charge.
I just recently purchased an origilal charger for my Streak 7 from Ebay. The name of the company was cellular_emporium and the description was: TMOBILE OEM HOME CHARGER + DATA CABLE DELL STREAK 7 STREAK 5 WoW!
Make sure the one you buy says OEM because those are the ones with higher charging capability. All the other chargers I've seen out there that are copies of the original are only 0.5A output but the OEM I have says 1.0A output. That's twice the output. The charger came with the 30pin cable that plugs into the Streak 7 and the other end is a USB that plugs into the charger head unit.
I paid $11 for it with free shipping and it got to my house in about 3 days.
Hope that helps. I know I had a hard time deciding which one since they all say they are compatible.
Charger
Make sure that the charger supplies an output of 5volts and 2amps.
The OEM power supply is 2A but the S7 never draws that much, I've measured it. It never draws more than 1.3A. Not sure what the S7 looks at but I'm guessing that it looks at voltage and if it drops, it won't charge. You can use a 1A power supply "sometimes" by booting up the S7 first and than plugging it in as it uses more current at boot up time.
IIRC with the S7 OFF, it charges at around 960mA max and that drops off as it reaches a full charge.
It was a long time before I noticed that no matter what your using the S7 stops charging during a good part of the boot up time.
I bought what i thought were a couple higher quality universal chargers. They charge my razr fast but won't charge my nexus 7 at all. I have one of the chargers pulled apart but before I do any soldering I want to make sure -- if I cross the 2 data points will it work?
Well I couldn't wait 10 minutes so I tried. Answer: no. Wtf?
Can anyone tell me how to hack these chargers to make them work? Is there a resistor I need to remove?
Isn't it more likely to be a software thing?
With my samsung Tab 7.7 i couldn't charge it using my ipad charger until a Dev modded the software on the tablet.
are they 2Amp chargers? most universal chargers are only 1Amp
Well whatever the problem is, I want to charge my tablet in more than one place, I want to charge it faster than the 16 hours generic chargers are taking, and I don't want to pay $30 for OEM chargers.
If your tablet is taking 16 hours to fully charge, return it. I can drain mine after heavy use of the day and its still fully charged in under 6 hours.

@soldeus: There's nothing wrong with my tablet. The OEM charger works fine and some of my generic chargers work, they just don't have the current. (See below)
@vivan: They are 1A chargers, but they should still work. They don't charge at all. The 500ma Blackberry charger I'm using here at work will charge it in about 8 hours.
Ironically the move to almost-universal micro usb chargers has made the market for them even worse. Now, instead of having to buy a new charger every time you buy a new phone, you have to buy a dozen different chargers till you find one that actually works. Like I said, I didn't try to cheap out. I got a high quality charger.

The OEM charger is 2A for a reason. Because the tablet uses more power, it needs more current to charge at a fast pace.
Your generic 1A chargers are probably just enough to keep the tablet powered on, without draining (or charging) the battery.
If you can find a 2A universal charger, it should work just like the OEM one.

No, my 1A chargers are doing NOTHING at all. I plug it in and the charging icon doesn't come on. Reviews have tested these chargers at about 950ma and as I said, my 500ma Blackberry charger isn't too bad.. It's not lack of power, it's something else.
My guess is it has whatever resistor it needs to make it an "ipad" charger. And the vast majority of 2A chargers will, too.
So.. back to my original question: what do I need to do to make this charger charge my tablet? I KNOW it's possible. I just need to find the guy who can tell me how.
I also need a charger for my car, my usb power adapter in the car does not work, need to know what car charger will work as this tablet is supposed to be my car stereo replacement, sucks having to bring your stereo in to charge it and hope it lasts till you get done work
I bought the Scosche dual 10 Watt car charger, isn't here yet though. It does say it wont charge the Samsung tablets, maybe due to the proprietary cord because apparently there is a cord that works with them. It's not a specific ipad charger and does say it works with Android devices and tablets.
On a side note, what's the best way to determine what your N7 is actually charging at?
Both of my generic chargers won't work either, a 2.1A generic iPad charger, and a 1A standard USB charger. Considering it WILL charge off a 500ma USB port, it's not a current/amperage issue, it's a software/proprietary hardware issue.

I use a verizon branded car charger to charge my N7 but I think they charge $30 for it at the vzw store.
I suggest you read this page as it may have some info to help you modify your charger:

the cost isn't so much the issue, its the actually working part. do they have one with an angled micro usb so i can mount the tablet in the car properly or preferably a usb adapter one where i can use my own cord
For $30 you could order a handful of different ones on ebay or monoprice and find something that works. But I want a dual charger.

I won't say 100% but I would bet the probability is very high. For the 1A charging they all seemed to play the same game with the voltage on the data lines. Not sure you'll get 2A but you'll at least get 1A.
Edit... maybe not, see this thread:

I have a philips as351 audio dock that pushes 2A out of the micro-usb charger and the usb port on the back and neither will charge the N7. Bummer because it looks so nice on the dock to

I think it should be fine... I usually use charger for my http Wildfire... on charger you can find label with voltage/ampers... same label you could find on back side if your kindle... check it and compare if it will not get you into any trouble
I'm using my kindle USB with my iPhone plug. It works.

The kindles are rated to handle a very high voltage, 9v. This is how they charge so quickly with their power charger(which we all know you have to shell out an extra 20$ for, never bought a device that you had buy a charger separately- pretty screwed up.). Most devices only use around a 5v charger, so using a different charger won't effect the device it'll just charge slower. Now I would not suggest using a kindle power charger on other devices as the higher voltage will cause problems.
What about an Asus eee pad TF101 charger? It says 5-15V 2-1.5A

are you sure about that? i dont think that there are charger with any other voltage then 5V. it would be very dangerous to sell a charger that has a micro usb (or a standard usb jack) connector with anything other than 5v, because it will fry every device you plug in. (a device that can handle more than 5V will not use a USB connector!)
i think you are refering to the wattage, which is voltage*amp. a 9w charger can support up to 1.8A of power. a pc usb socket can only support 500mW according to specification. but it wont damage anything if the socket puts out more than that, as long as the voltage stays at 5V.
you can basically use every usb port and any microusb cable there is to charge your kindle (or every other usb powered device). the worst thing that can happen is that the amps are not enough and the charging takes forever and may not charge at all if the device is used.

Thank you for catching that, you're right, I was referring to wattage. (Don't tell my wife the electrical engineer, she'd smack me upside the head for that one)
Hello guys. I use a standard 5V 2.0A charger at work with the original Samsung micro USB cable, I also have a Xiaomi type-C converter. Most of the times my Nexus 5X says charging rapidly! So my question is, is it safe to use? Can it harm my device? Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
It won't hurt it, in fact it'll charge slower. So should create less heat and be better for it. Use ampere to check actual rates. The Nexus 5x c to c charger is rated higher than that. Slower is rarely ever bad, faster can be the issue
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
No it won't but stock charger is more powerful (2.0 A vs 3.0 A)
I use a Samsung charger with a Type A to type C cable for overnight charging as I don't need it to charge rapidly while I'm sleeping. My cable is certified to comply with the standards though. Don't know if that Xiaomi type-C converter is or needs to be.
As said by @ideaman924, if it says Charging Rapidly, there's problem. Phone thinks it's connected to full-fledged USB Type-C cable which can handle more current than your microUSB cable with converter on the end (3A vs 2A).
AFAIK, it means there's bad/missing resistor in converter and thus it is NOT safe to use. And definitely not safe to charge with all night.
Example: For overnight charging I use Samsung's 5V 1A charger with Anker' a USB A to USB Type-C cable and phone says only Charging. However, when connected to stock Type-C to Type-C charger, it says "Charging Rapidly". That's how it should work.
So, head over to Amazon and buy ONLY Benson Leung certified cable. If you don't know him, Google his name -- he tests USB Type-C cables and made spreadsheet.
Where did you get that Samsung charger from? I had that same issue but it was with a 2.0a Samsung charger that came from Amazon that ended up being a fake, as with almost all the "genuine OEM" chargers sold on eBay/amazon. On a regular tablet it would output just under 2a. (I measured it once something like 1.88 or something IIRC) However, once connected to a co-workers 5X though it said charging rapidly and got very hot very quickly. It got binned after that. I don't use cheap chargers anymore.
Dont know if yours is a fake or not, but if you didn't get it with a new phone, I'd be suspect of it.
I prefer using the original one since boot loop issues
if your phone explode don't blame the LG
