HTC New App 'DOCK MODE' - HD7 General

Hi
Just found this out that HTC has released their Dock App in the Market which initially came with the Titan.
What it does: it's for your bedside or office desk. Basically it shows you the time, current weather conditions (with dynamic background), music, photo album and HTC Watch (for movies). It also works in portrait or landscape with a brightness control for dimming at night.

What devices cause it to launch though? I havent seen any docks that are any thing other than a stand/usb charger?

I installed it on my HD7, but I cannot get the HTC Watch app to run. Also, I had to search for the dock mode app, as it was not in the HTC app marketplace list.

Yeah its not under HTC HUB you have to search in the marketplace.
It dosent really need a dock to operate you just download and click on it to open it.
I guess the only downside is you will loose battery if its not in a dock... which I am presuming HTC might come out with

VirtualSheep - Make use of your G1 screen when it's plugged in.

VirtualSheep - Let your Android Dream!
VirtualSheep is an Android application that replaces the boring blank screen you see when your Android is plugged in. With VirtualSheep, whenever you plug your Android into the wall or the computer, you get a dynamic slideshow of photos from Flickr (no Flickr account necessary). If you have your own Flickr account, you can see a slideshow of your own photos!
In addition to the ever-changing slideshow, you can watch live news feeds from Google News and link to them by touching the news title.
VirtualSheep is great for people who leave their phone plugged in while at work, school or at home!
Plug it in, and the slideshow begins. Unplug and it ends. It's that easy!
Click here from your Android to find VirtualSheep in the Android Market:

From my own Flickr stream. The image is much larger than this and smoothly pans across the screen in portrait or landscape mode.

sounds cool, but not able to access the application via your provided links. i dont have, nor intend to use flicker, but the newsfeed thing could have been interesting
I double checked the links - they're correct.
The market is sometimes weird with the search function. It seems like it depends which server you hit when you search.
If you can't find the app with the search, by clicking the link I posted, you can find it manually under the Multimedia section.
Sorry for the inconvenience. If there was something I could do, I would.

is their an app out there that when you plug it in, it turns into an alarm clock, or something elsE?

That's a pretty good idea. Right now this one shows the time on the screen (next to the RSS feeds), but no alarm.
I'll add it to the list of feature requests.
I bought this app right after reading this page. Cool idea for a screensaver app
I hope I don't show my age bringing up screen burn. LOL Ok, so maybe not screen burn per se, but maybe screen burn-out. Is it bad to have your screen on all night like this? That's what I don't get about all these alarm clock apps --- it can't be good to have the screen on and showing numbers and photos all night.
Version 1.0.5.
- Added option to set your own RSS feed Url. Now you aren't limited to just Google News!
- Added an option to turn off the slideshow - for people who want the news without the distraction of the pictures.

The devices have a setting straight from the factory that makes them keep the screen on when plugged in. I think it's ok if Google ships them with that setting.
I hear you, though. By default, VirtualSheep keeps the screen at the dimmer backlight setting. There is an option to use the full brightness, though.

Home rotation bug caused by Raging Thunder 2

Hi, just thought this was an interesting bug to come across knowing that the Hero doesn't natively support landscape home in Sense or the default android home.
When playing Raging Thunder 2 (Lite in my case), let the phone sleep (press end call), now wake the phone and unlock the screen. The phone is forced into landscape home until you correct it (hold phone portrait). This happens in both sense and the default android home, however Sense forcecloses.

Yep indeed,... tested what you said and you are indeed correct,... I tried this with the full paid version and had the same issue.
It is not an issue if just left idle on the game as the game does not allow the phone to go into into sleep mode,...
FIX: Download and install spare parts (it is free),... This is an excellent app which gives access to settings not available as standard.
Once installed, open app, go to "End button behavior",... select "Home, then sleep". Now if you are ever in an app (not on any one of your homescreens), when you press end, it will first take you home, then you have to press it again to put the phone in sleep mode.
I know its an extra button press but I do like to have it sleep only on the homescreen.
Peace.
Good solution. I have spare parts set to sleep on end button by preference, but I see that would be a good solution. Plus yeah, how many people are going to press end to put phone to sleep whilst playing a game.
And this bug doesn't really bother me, just thought I'd share it.
Adam
Its a good spot,... maybe worth letting the guys at Polarbit know.
I posted a comment on the market. Hopefully they'll spot it.

[Apk]How to replace HTC's Car Panel with Google's Car Home

This is a quick guide to show you how you can launch Google's Car home app and navigation instead of HTC's horizontally challenged car panel. While its simple enough to setup car home is not available on the market place for the DHD.
First install Google's car home app
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17102005/com.google.android.carhome-1.apk
Open car panel from you apps or launch it from your HTC Locations Widget
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now choose Google's Car home
Enjoy
What launcher are you using? I quite like your homescreen and notification bar.
I presume DHD=Desire HD. I've got a Desire running 2.2 w/ Sense and I can't find/don't seem to have this My Locations/Car Panel app/widget.
-also, noticed you're from NZ, goodonya.
Very nice tip!!!
Now I can switch to another gps software on the panel and it can be in landscape!!!
I'm running Revolution HD by Mike1986 with Vistagamer's theme Desolution and couldn't be happier, Girlfriend wasn't so impressed with the background though
Edit: Yes DHD = Desire HD
And I found out a guy who posted the last version of CarHome, v2.2.1.4
http://www.mediafire.com/?8fkv48e9lpvx8d8
I already install it and it works fine
thanx for this !
very nice

[Q] Lockscreen questions (dashclock)

I'm using an AT&T Note 3 with DashClock installed for my lock screen.
When coming back to my phone my lockscreen shows something like this.

In order to get more information I have to manually drag the widget to make it bigger every time. After I drag it down or scroll to a new screen and back it shows up like this:
From this screen I'm able to just tap the notification and load the corresponding app. I am used to this functionality from my previous iphones. Is there any way to automatically load the widget as it appears in the 2nd pic above?
Thanks.
It looks like this is a feature in Android.
"People...Built by design, stock 4.2.X has the 'main' lock screen widget shrunk so that you have full access to the lockscreen slider right away after unlocking. You'll need a non-stock/custom ROM (AOKP/CM) that has such option built into it, allowing for main lockscreen to be expanded as soon as the phone is unlocked. This isn't an 'app' issue/fix but stock ROM related. "

Xposed has a maximize widget module for this. That is if you are rooted.

My custom Android based car ui

So I got tired of the way car ui systems were laid out so I created my own. I done so using several different apps and it took several weeks to get everything work correctly by Im happy. The screen shots were from a while ago.
I got tired of all of these apps not doing everything I wanted so I mixed several apps together to create my setup.
The vehicle diagnostics pull the data from torque pro log file to populate most of the info, the top part populates using tasker.
The music info in the center is pulled using tasker.
The calendar events is pulled using zooper widget pro
When you touch the speaker icon on the bottom it launches a pop up overlay using widget launcher to show my different Spotify playlist. Each playlist had to be setup using tasker.
The navigation icon launches Waze
The Torque icon switches to a second screen to show more details, all the data is pulled using tasker from the torque pro event log.

This looks amazing!! What type of vehicle do you have?
its just a 2011 Kia Sportage so the HP and similar info are not something that I pay any attention to because its not fast. this would look great in any dash. the original setup was just a nexus 7 tablet install but im currently look at putting an Android HU in.
