Market 2.7 on Galaxy s, down load problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I have just updated my Galaxy s I9000 with newest GINGERBREAD xxjvt samsung stock rom. After rooting it and putting VOODOO lagfix on, my market app doesn't download. I have wiped the user data as well as clean the partion cache. But still can not download the apps from market, why it's coming back with unsuccessful download message.
Please help.
Cheers
Sharks

What error message does it give you?

This sounds similar to the problem I'm currently facing.
The error message is the application cannot be downloaded due to an error.
I have started a thread on this, as I cannot find any good answer so far

There is no solution mate, you got to go and re flash again, as I discovered yesterday. How this helps.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk

no harm trying.. will do this as soon as my battery is full.
did you try to clear the dalvik cache before you do this?

I fixed mine by repairing permissions in rom manager then rebooting

Simply clean the "data" of the market ?
Applications => All Applications => Market => Clean Data ?

[Q] Apps gone after restart - SGS Darky's Rom 9.1

Hi,
I'm having a problem with a specific app.
I upgraded from Darky's Rom 8.0 to 9.1 (wipe). Didn't detected any problems whatsoever.
After applying lagfix Asphalt 5 app disappears after each restart.
Already disabled lagfix but the error still remains.
Can anyone help me on this issue?
Thanks,
I know that error Asphalt has been posted recently with the same rom .
So a search may find the answer .

Hi,
Thanks for replying,
Already see that post, but no one explains why this error happens or how to fix it.
They only say to download Apps2sd and transferring all the Apps to the external SD, and that I don't want to do. I only want to fix this particular issue.
Thanks,
why is this not posted inside the 'darky's rom' thread? (just curious)
I had the same problem with some of the custom roms like the cyanogen 6.1 beta's.
Some roms install apps on ext SD by default and after a reboot the app is missing in the drawer.
Check in app management, it should be still there and if you chose "move to phone" its back.
Hope this helps you out, it worked for me.

It's also there.
But first of all I don't know if this is an issue caused by the new darky's rom or some other known android sd card issue.
And second I don't see any problem in posting this issue in the xda forum where also darky have his rom posted.
why is this not posted inside the 'darky's rom' thread? (just curious)
I would guess cos it wont get an answer .

Exactly...
Thanks,
had the same problem with dark's 9.1 but with root explorer and other system apps. I don't have an external SD Card. Now the rom gone crazy and I had to reflash the V8. If this one goes crazy too, i will probably got o stock or on DOc's rom
I had the same problem with DocRom, it was caused by the deodex process that runs when phone is restarted.
It was caused by not having enough space in one partition (I think it was /system). So deodex failed. This only caused problems when deodexing big apps, like asphalt. You cans see the error by doing a logcat while phone is rebooting.
I couldn't find a solution. You might want to post in darky's thread. Maybe there is a way to disable deodex for some apps.
If you find a solution please post it here, I'd like to know how to fix this.
Thanks guys,
I thing that this error it's associated with another, I explain.
I was starting to wipe dalvik cache to see if it solve this issue but is says:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 (file exists).
I had this error once and the Asphast 5 App also disappeared after each restart.
Then I flashed with Odin and re-partition a new rom and the error was gone.
Also, the App error was also solved.
Now I have the same two errors, so they are related.
I need to find more information about this issue.
If anyone knows more please share.
Thanks,
I receive that dalvik cache error every time when i'm wipeing the dalvik, but never lost apps before.
I only lose one, "Asphast 5".
I re-flashed the phone with Odin and JPU stock rom, re-partition.
Formatted my internal and external card, then clean installed a wipe 9.1 Darky version and the Asphalt 5 app remained on the phone.
After I started to install all the apps again with Titanium Backup the Asphalt 5 app disappeared after restart.
I really don't know what's going wrong. I know that with my old Darky 8.0 this didn't happened...
Anyone has ideas?
latest doc rom + hardcore kernel, same problem only 1 app keep missing after restart. (asphalt5 from samsung apps)
I think must be something with the big size apk, can't find other bigger apps then asphalt5.
You may check if this solution in the ROM Kitchen Thread works here as well.

[Q - ISSUE] Galaxy freezes while it is in standby

In April i have installed a custom rom with the speedmod K13D.
Lately my Galaxy S freezes while it is in standby. When i want to unlock the phone, the screen keeps black, nothing happens, and i have to pull out the battery. After the reboot the phone works fine. Yesterday i did a wipe cache and a wipe dalvik cache.
What is the cause of this issue: an application, the kernel?
Any idea to resolve it?
Please, help me!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
what custom ROM are you using ??
sounds like a kernel issue, but it could be a number of things.
have you got lagfix installed ?
I'm using an italian custom rom (by sconcauteam), without lagfix.

Update
Try to switch to another ROM or search if users with same ROM as u has similar problems.
Look for any software u installed lately, maybe a bad OC/UV configuration or some software u put on phone can do this.
Update Kernel to K13E.
Put original Samsung ROM to see if it's hardware and if still happens with original ROM, u can go to repair.
Ok! Thank you!

Have noticed the same issue
I have had the same issue. I tried different roms different kernels flash trough odin (also tried several versions of odin). This happens only to you and me?
Tried darky's rom, honeybread, Juwe and others, but all had this sleep issue. It must be something I do but I'm no stranger to flashing. Until I find out what is causing this (perhaps an app or so) I will stay on 2.2.1.
If you can narrow down the issue you will make me a happy man. When I found something I will post it here.
@spaanplaat,
The wipe of the dalvik cache has fixed the issue.

[Q] Losing Settings of all new apps after reboot or forced close

Hi guys,
My phone has been working great until today. for some reason now when I install a new app, if it is forced close or if I reboot the phone, I lose all the setting for the apps. It only happens to new apps, the one installed before today are (so far) keeping the settings.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Please help. I know some of you might suggest a factory reset, but unless somebody had this problem and reset helped with it, I will hold off on that because if it ends up not working I will be left with all my apps losing their settings all the time.
I am on I9000T on stock Froyo 2.2.1 if that can help.
Anyone? Please I really need help on this one. This has to have happened to somebody here?
Problem with the firmware.!!
I think that there must be a problem with the Firmware .. Try updating your phone via kies or Flashing Gingerbread using ODIN..

Before this, you could try and do a factory reset and see if the problem persists! If it does, then reflash with Odin! Good Luck!
Thanks for replying guys. I have a question: if it is a file system problem, will a firmware update or factory reset help?
Also, I have had this firmware for almost a year now, why would have I a problem with it now, I am not rooted and I have attempted (yet) anything with flashing.
If ur phone has a file-system error Reflashing or factory resetting ur phone will help 4 sure as the files will be cleaned up and installed again..u phone may have dis problem due to any virus... u need to root ur phone 1st then flash gb

I have also had this problem come up on my phone. The phone just crashed on a Sat night and on reboot the software looked like I had taken it out the box brand new. Lucky I had Titanium Backup and restored everything.
Only thing then is that the vast majority of apps don't remember settings and on a start of the app it's in 'first time' mode.
Did a ROM flash using ODIN and default ROM (search this forum for instructions and software if you need it) and this fixed it properly - 12 hours in and no issues.
Credits to Titanium Backup here - like insurance you only know if it's any good when you actually need it.

[Q] Abnormally Slow Galaxy S Captivate - Factory Reset Doesn't Help

Hi, first of all, I am new to Android devices.
I am having a problem with my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. Games and apps seems to be running slower than normal after updating to Gingerbread 2.3.5. I have rooted my phone with Odin3 v 1.85, but it's been running slow even before the root. (In fact, I rooted the phone so I could install a lagfix, but I can't find one for Captivate I897 running on 2.3.5).
Anyway, I don't see the reason for games and apps to be running slow because I've heard that the Captivate has a pretty good GPU. Also, it's not like I've overstocked my phone's storage; I only have a few apps.
I've also made a short video explaining my problem further. Just search "slow captivate" on youtube. I should be the first video: "Really Slow Samsung Galaxy S Captivate - Fix?"
I've searched everywhere for a fix, but I can't find anything, so I came here. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this, or at least reduce the lag?
Thanks in advance,
-xxTDGPainxx
I was seeing my phone work slower and slower on 2.3.6, I suspected that the developers of the apps I used were starting to develop for ICS and that maybe it was different enough that the updates were causing the apps to misbehave on older versions. I flashed to ICS just to see... and it was a great move, ICS on the captivate flies!!! I used SlimICS, I think it is the right way to go for Galaxy S phones...

First of all, lagfix isn't really used anymore. Also, I would say to get rid of those task killing apps. They don't help and only add to your problems. A lot of the symptoms you encountered are pretty common, and I was expecting something much worse. You seem to be running a different kernel that allows overclock; which is it?
If all else fails, try ICS

Hey
I tried to upgrade to ICS with Team ICSSGS [Android 4.0.3]. I followed a step by step tutorial using CWM to load "ICS_4.0.3_MR1-RC4.2_Captivate.zip" and installation seems to go well. But after I try to reboot my phone, the AT&T logo comes up, then the "Google" logo comes up, but it just stays stuck at the Google logo forever. ICS never starts up. I've tried removing the battery and then going back into CWM and restarting the process but the same thing keeps happening. What should I do?

Yeah, I've flashed it a few times. Each time, before I install it, I clear data/factory reset, clear cache, and davlik cache, but it's still just getting stuck at the "Google" boot screen. It's weird because every time, CWM says it installs successfully. I'm starting to think that the .zip I downloaded isn't so good...
Do you know of a good, stable version of ICS I could use instead? Maybe even the same one you're using?
Thanks

I gave up on ICS... I could not get it to work for the life of me and it was getting me extremely frustrated. I almost bricked my phone (I think).
Maybe I'll try it again if someone could link me to a detailed step-by-step tutorial to upgrading to ICS. I'm very new to the way android works and a lot of the tutorials are just plain confusing to me...
I ended up reverting back to GB 2.3.4.
Thanks for helping me out though.

GUIDE TO INSTALL ICS, my way at least
Hey if you're looking for a good guide to putting ICS on your captivate I can help, The first time i tried ICS i messed things up and angrily decided that i wouldn't try it again and reverted back to 2.3.5, after carefully trying ICS again i love it so much. I won't ever go back to android 2.whatever.
I used CM9 ICS and have no issues or bugs. It's possible there are other better ICS roms but i prefer this one since i know for a fact that it works great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363760
You'll need to download CM9 v17 and a gapps package on your SD card.
trust me, ICS is worth it, it's much better than 2.3
if you have titanium backup backup your user apps (NOT SYSTEM APPS/SYSTEM DATA)
Rom installation:
First things first always do a nandroid backup so you can go back easier, if necessary.
once thats done go to CWM recovery and do a wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition. once that's done install the CM9 .zip package for the rom.
IT WILL STOP HALFWAY THROUGH AND REBOOT ITSELF, as this is the new kernel being installed. while it's still rebooting pull the battery and let it turn off, reboot straight into CWM recovery.
once this happens go back to install you CM9 .zip file again. it will finish all the installation after that. once it finishes the install you should definitely install the Gapps.zip. it will load up your google apps (market, gmail, youtube, etc and your google account sync) if you don't load the Gapps you will not have very much functionality to your captivate.
once you have your google apps installed you should be ready to fly with a fast responsive captivate. Hope this helps, it took a few trial and error runs before i figured it out.
If you used titanium backup to backup your apps you can restore APPS ONLY!!! don't restore any system data/system apps!!!! it's very important that you don't do that.
that should be it. enjoy your ICS, it's much better than android 2.blah
Fastness: CM7
Sexyness: CM9
That's the answer to everything.
I have run aokp (my current) and doc's master. Both have been great!
I'm far from an Android guru but if you follow the directions, you will be ok. Both also have relatively supportive forums if you get in a jam.

[Q] Messaging app not closing properly

I've been using my phone for months already and have not experienced this...my messaging app always closes upon hitting the back button on my phone (GT-N7000)...a week ago I rooted my phone using the cwm.zip method and all was ok. I check for brick bugs (negative) and all the stuff are working fine...read the thread here saying cwm.zip can brick my phone I immediately looked for a solution...but before I installed a new kernel I tried installing busybox using the app called BusyBox Pro from google play...I noticed that when I open my messaging app and hitting the back button...it won't close, I'd have to go inside task manager and manually close it from there...I've also read some people saying that this was normal...does that mean that when I got my phone brand new that it wasn't normal because it was closing the app previously???
Anyways I tried flashing a new rom (stock ICS rom) (did not wipe I just flashed the stock rom from Mobile Odin) and did a factory reset afterwards...still the same...i did this twice with the same result...messaging app is still not closing properly. Now I have rooted my phone again using the safe method provided in this forum flashed the superSU and the busybox afterwards and flashed the Philz kernel using Mobile Odin as my final step.
I did find a way to fix this by ticking on the developer options "do not keep activities" and it does close the application when I hit back (I don't think checking the "do not keep activities" is also a proper fix anyways) but now this will leave me with another problem of the new message notification (1 inside the red circle) not going away even if all messages are already checked. Both situations are quite annoying so if anyone out there has any solution to this would be of really great help to us who has this problem...
I saw a few threads saying to replace the mms.apk file with a new one and they did say it fixed their problem...i dunno if this is a good idea but if it is where can I get the apk for the stock messaging app for ICS 4.0.4? would any expert recommend this? It does not have any CPU usage...only takes up RAM and I know this is not much of an issue but it is really annoying as hell and is weird.
as you already have flashed ics again, I am not sure of replacing the mms.apk will resolve the issue. anyhow the mms.apk can be found in rom you downloaded. open up the rom using 7z and the factoryfs.img file. now using sgs2ext4.jar and linux reader you can extract the mms.apk.
Other option is to install a wipe gb rom and the upgrade to ics again

I thought factory resetting would do the trick but done it twice and it did not...it was not like this before...wish there is a solution other than flashinig a new rom. By using a 3rd party app...will it disable my stock messaging app? maybe that will work what do you think?

yes i think...will that overwrite my messaging app or disable it or will I be having 2 messaging apps? sorry noob question.
What does wiping do? Maybe that's what I didn't do reason my message app stayed this way...
3 wipes
wipe cache
wipe data - same as factory reset
wipe dalvik
the wipe I mentioned was to format the system as we do on Windows and then install the new os again like fresh.
I don't know. May be you will have 2. but if the go sms is able to read your text messages as well the you can go in to application - all and disable the messaging

So factory resetting = wipe data right? and the cache and dalvik is not wiped in this process? hmmmm...I'm really wondering what the ^&(& happened to my messaging app and why this issue won't go away...really weird.
Anyways still trying to replace my stock mms.apk with something else...but none seems to work...i have set the permissions correctly but still I only get a black screen and then force closes after. Trying this method before resorting to a 3rd party app which I really am not into...I like my phone stock and clean and this abnormality in its performance is making me crazy. Sorry it's like an obsessive compulsive behaviour LOL.
I guess instead of trying so many things, it's better that if you install a wipe gb rom and then test the message app. If all ok and then upgrade to ics back

I tried replacing the modified mms.apk from rocketrom v8 LRK build and still unsuccessful. Hmmm still trying to burn all possibilities before I flash a new rom again. Thanks!
I have tried installing a 3rd party SMS application and disabled the stock message application and still the problem persists. Will try one last idea afterwards I'll be off to flash a new GB rom and upgrade back to ICS.
