[Kernel] ◄ Stock Plus Kernel ► 11/11/11 - Ext4, 802.11n, Tun.ko - Droid Incredible Android Development

Stock+ Kernel
This kernel is based on the HTC 2.6.35 kernel source that was recently released. Just like my Stock+ rom, my goal is to leave this as close to stock as possible while enabling some other useful features.
This kernel is for GingerSense Roms ONLY!
Thanks to tiny4579 for his tips on setting up a build environment. Thanks to Koush for his anykernel update

This kernel is not made to compete with Tiny's kernels. Tiny's kernels are for people that want more control over their phones with new governors, voltages, OC, etc.
This kernel is for those that like the stock kernel but would like to use the Ext4 mod, connect to 802.11n wireless and maybe use Cisco VPNs and such.
What's Changed From Stock?
Enabled built in Ext4 Support
Included the Tun.ko module (Some VPN software uses this)
Disabled HTC's performance lock (Allows you to underclock/overclock the CPU - This kernel does NOT support overclocking)
Enabled 802.11n support
More info:
If you want to use the Ext4 mod, do all the steps for that first and then flash this last in recovery.
Unless you have the dalvik_moved mod installed, this will take care of wiping dalvik for you.

Gonna use this with the ext4 mod? I think I have one suggestion if you want to hit me up on gtalk later.
Edit. Did I take your third post?

I wasn't planning on changing the mod. I'll catch you on gtalk.
EDIT: After talking to you, I may add that other tweak and include this in the mod. It will save steps and assist with troubleshooting whether an issue is the mod or kernel enhancements. Thanks

I figured that AOSP had plenty of kernel choices. Do none of them have the 802.11n enabled? If not, I can give it a shot. The incredible will max out at about 72Mbps on n.
Thanks for reminding me to add "GingerSense Only" to the OP!

Wow, this was timely. I just did the 2.5 -> 2.6 yesterday and now I get the "Low on space" error all the time. I was coming to XDA to do the Ext4 mod which I read about yesterday and now I find you've, perhaps, simplified the process for me.
I'm a little confused by the note that says, "If you want to use the Ext4 mod, do all the steps for that first and then flash this last in recovery.". Does that mean I should still flash Ext4 (choosing one of the 3 options from that process)? I wasn't sure if Enabled built in Ext4 Support might not actually meant that the Ext4 mod is already included in this zip.
Sorry for the newb-ish questions. I've been running a stock Incredible for almost a year before flashing your 2.5 ROM. I was a ROM-flashing fool with Windows Mobile but was enjoying running something stock that was actually decent, at least until I got sick of waiting for HTC to fix the Gingerbread release.
Thanks!

Ok. So for you the next step would be to download this kernel and the ext4 no_data_limit_normal_dalvik mod (my recommendation) to your sdcard. Boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup.
Then flash the ext4 mod, followed by this kernel and boot it up. You should be good to go after that without the warnings.
Let me know how it goes.

you and tiny rock. right now incredikernel does not have n. as for topping out at 72Mbps. thats fine the router i bought is a dual band so n is on 1 and a/b/g is on 2.

main reason i bought it was because i thought my inc had it enabled but it didnt. plus it was on sale and my old router would drop my laptop connection when playing a game online. (but then i found out it wasnt the router but the cheap moto modem my IPS gave us.)
its nice to have our laptops run on one band and the rest of our crap on the other like google tv, roku box that is in the bedroom, and the blu ray player.
i got this one
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/prod...0000003142050&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=15539745
i like it because of the USB hub it has built in so i can download movies to my HD that is attached and anyone on the network can view them or copy them to there pc.

You can go into Settings-->Wireless and Networks-->Wi-Fi Settings and touch (not long-press) the access point that you're connected to. If it's an 802.11n capable router, and you're close to it, you should get speeds of up to 72Mbps listed in that dialog. 802.11g only goes up to 54Mbps so without n, that would be the highest it could be.

i know ext4 is a filesystem, but what does the mod do? and why is whatever it does useful?
also what is this performance lock that is disabled?

Oh s**t! Look at this guy lol just going beast on the forums these days. Might have to grace McSense with this, will see what tweaks you got in the works. Oh and congrats on the 1K.

It allows underclocking the CPU. Pasted from here:
FAQ:
What is Perflock Disabler?
HTC added a "perflock" in their stock kernels to prevent over/underclocking. SetCPU's Perflock Disabler, like its name implies, disables this restriction.

Gliches after OVerclock

Hello!
I am using CM6 and I got some gliches after this instruction Nexus one hack - How to overclock nexus one
- Camera and flashlight led wont work any more
- SD card is crazy, it works then it wont work
- Same for youtube application
- Wlan bugs, stop working and then works.
I can continue this list for ever...
So now I thing that I installed too old version of zimage.
How to flash newer version where to get it and how and will it help?
Don't overclock, and generally don't do things until you understand what you're doing. Return to the regular build of CM6 by flashing it through recovery. It won't erase your data.

No, not needed unless you want to lose all data.
YAY! The camera is working again, but I am sad cuz I lost my 1,113.
Maybe there is a better kernel with camera working?
Because i liked that 1,113 so mutch.

i could show the power of nexus one to iphone fans.
The phone loaded settings and calendar very fast.
It always does. I don't think this 10% boost suddenly turned it into super-duper-lightning-fast?
why the hell its only 10percent, while evo 4g with same proccessor almost 30%.
You need to push overclock to 1267 MHz for it to be ~30%. Easy math. 1113 / 998 ~= 1.10 ~= 10% overclock.

There's a word for that: MOAR.
In most contexts, this word means that someone wants "more" of some random thing for no reason or for a nonsense reason. Except when paired with bacon. MOAR BACON is acceptable.
MOAR GIGGITYHURTZ, not acceptable.
default CM6 kernel allows you the OC to 1113.
yes ty! I can over clock it without that stupid kernel,
Why can't I overclock my nexus to 1.3 when you can with dvi 4h
To stop wasting everyone time just update to a latest kernel by pershoot or be on the original cm kernel. Both are almost same n both overclock

Dragon Kernel 3.2 - Voodoo Sound v4

http://www.tabbal.net/files/Dragon-Kernel-Voodoo-OC-v3.2.zip
Just to keep the OP short, description and such are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922510
Changes from 3.1.2:
Voodoo Sound v4.
OC the bus slightly at 1.4Ghz, still deciding if it's worth while.
Increase the refresh rate for the GPU. Increases FPS cap to 65. Turn off the screen once after boot to make sure it's working.
Convert Android logger to a module, disabled at boot. insmod /lib/modules/logger.ko to enable.
Enabled charge current readout.
Increase kernel Hz to 1000, seems to smooth things out a little more.
FIRST ! , on it
and first to downmlaod too ;P

I haven't seen any reason to mess with it honestly, I'm quite happy with the screen colors. Maybe if there is a control type app released for it so people can configure it.
Is there a non OC version?
You can use the voltage app to limit the cpu to 1ghz.

I'm trying to avoid maintaining another branch without oc.. The kernel self-limits at boot to 1Ghz, so it should act like a non-OC kernel unless you load up the Voltage Control app and enable some OC states.
What about the voodoo sharpness mod? I'm excited to try out the 1000hz. Did you ever disable the fm module? Did you ever get a rom booting with full preempt like other devices do? I haven't had a chance to mess with it myself. :-(

I haven't done any of the voodoo screen stuff... Never seen a reason to. I might look at it. One of the things I would want to see is a userland control app so people can adjust to what they want, like Voodoo Sound does. The screen is just too subjective. Everyone is going to want something different.
Yes, the FM module is disabled, no significant difference. No, full preempt doesn't boot... still not sure what Samsung did there... I'm still using voluntary preempt.
From what I've seen of Samsung's code and their shortcuts, I suspect something in RFS isn't threadsafe so they broke full-preempt. That's just a guess though, as we don't have source for RFS and they will never give it to us as they think it's valuable..

/efs still runs RFS so maybe that's just freaking out when we set the kernel to preempt.
As far as the screen goes, I definitively agree, but he did change more than just the color. He added a sharpness fix and several other settings. But I like the idea of it all being useland controlled.

Not all phones are overclockable. Have you ever been able to overclock your phone?
runs great so far at 1.2
Thanks, That what i did, actually this is the first of the OC kernels th I've bn able to get to1200mhz without the phone locking up. Thanked both of you!!
i haven't been able to successfully overclock this kernel using the voltage app.....if i use setcpu speed i can get to 1.4 ghz easily but anytime i use the voltage app i get a freeze....any suggestions??
EDIT* sorry i meant the previous kernel that the new update
I talked with Supercurio and he tells me the OneNAND driver itself is what's causing the issue with preempt. In order for us to be able to use preempt, we have to either mod the nexus s kernel to work on our phones or backport the OneNAND MTD driver. That way, we stop using the FSR layer altogether. (Wouldn't that also cause an increase in file system performance as the FSR layer causes some mayor slowdowns in fsync?
I love using your kernels as it allows me to underclock.

NOTE: Just like any other ROM, flash it using CWM. This ROM also support any Voodoo enabled kernel. Also remember, this ROM will still show 4G connection even though as you should know, your vibrant phone doesn't support 4G. I'll fix that later on.
Other that those listed above, this ROM is pretty much stock. Perfect starting point for devs and themers.

Got it. Any significant changes? Would think not if we aren't using the modem or kernel. Just wondering before I flash it.
How is it running so far? Pretty good? Will check this out in a little bit.
What have you done to services.jar? Is android-policy untouched? Settings.apk? Would you say the recompiling went perfect so the framework shouldn't throw any errors when decompiled/recompiled? Will UOT accept the framework as is? Did you include the new pink boot animation? <- Just curious on these.
Also, did you leave drivesmart in when you removed the bloat?
EDIT - Dang, I HATE people to post 900 questions in my thread that could be answered by downloading the rom - sorry!
My observations:
1. I like it but when we posted this in the past, people complained about the auto sync - MobileBackup-3.0.19.04-signed-aligned.apk - they didn't want it in there and there is no way to turn it off once the rom is flashed.
2. People are going to complain about the decade long media scanning that has been common with the V4G releases - this can be easily fixed though.
3. A request - Can you please post the drivesmart apps? It is still in settings but causes a force close because the app isn't there.
4. You might get with krylon one more time - it looks like the menu button may still be making a call to the launcher, causing menu lag - I thought he found a fix for this but I don't know for sure.
5. This does not appear to be using whitehawkx's sdcard fix - you might want to contact him.
6. People ARE going to LIKE the non-blurry mms! But there is a weird bug where you can not attach a photo straight from mms if you try to take the picture from mms. You can take the picture from the camera app and then use share though.
Finally - Great Job. I know this post looks like nothing but negative critiques but I assure you your contribution is appreciated!

And thanks again - This is your rom and will stay that way, I want to rip it apart for the hac mode - something you should advertise in your title since it is a highly requested item, along with wifi-calling on a 2.2.1 rom.

[KERNEL] [gpl] Trinity UV11, CM7/modaco/stock, 2.6.35.13 - bfs404

There was often a request for Trinity with UV instead of OC, no OC at all, well, here it is. 1100MHz of undervolted almost stock battery saving goodness.
This 2.3.4 Kernel is for CM7, modaco and stock roms will be updated later
BLN (Backlight notification) (Big Thanks Neldar! buy his app for blinking notification)
Based on 2.3.4 Gingerbread source.
Upgraded 2.6.35.13 base
At almost stock 1.1GHz with decent amount of UV
Trinity bootanimation by @rascarlo
TUN (Tunneling/VPN support)
CIFS (Samba support)
EXT4 mount fix (CM now picked this up for /data already)
Voodoo Sound v8 (cm7) (Thanks supercurio)
Voodoo Color (Thanks supercurio)
Flash issues fixed
USB fixed
A little note on blinking with BLN, it will use more power, static lights as notification you wouldn't have to worry about if you are worried about your battery, your 100 extra apps use way more than BLN.
Thread will be closed, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036996 is going to be the main one.
maybe I'll need this later
Any chance to get a stock Version ?

Lame question here - does this kernel provides the benefits of a good Voodoo kernel with an excellent battery life? That's why the UV?

That is exactly what this is for.
Everyone wants voodoo color and sound, but not all want to OC.
People requested a zero OC full UV version, with all the patches they want, this is it.

my phone keeps freezing and rebooting after a couple of minutes
Any chance you could explain the standard voltages and the undervolted ones? Just a link to somewhere with the different voltages would be great. Just interested.
Will give this a go. Fingers cruised it'll help my battery last longer.

Perhaps your phone is more an eight than a nine.
Build #8 ran so great I dropped 100,200,400mhz.another 25mV for build #9.

So far so good here. Only issue I'm having is the browser freeze/lock-ups that I had about a month ago. Not sure why it is now popping up again with this...oh well. Good work morfic
Morfic, does your main computer use Linux, or Windows, .... or even OSX?

The OP thread has which version? Is this newer? Sorry I'm confused.

the op is newer. the number 8 i posted is the same but has slightly more voltage. its better for phones experiencing instability with the kernel posted in the op. just like being overclocked, not all phones will be stable stable with all amounts of undervolting.

[WIFI FIX UPDATED] Nexus 4 Wireless solution/fix!

Hello!
Do you have problems during streaming Youtube videos?
Do you notice a very slow connection with your Nexus 4?
Do you notice that your other clients (like notebook, other smarthones, pc, etc etc) are connecting very well with the same router's settings?
Good, the problems are not inside the router's settings. The real issue is neither into the Nexus 4's Qualcomm WiFi adapter.
The issue is only in a configuration file named WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini.
You have only to flash the zip file through recovery.
If you don't notice the difference, if this zip file is not helping you, please write here and you can always flash the stock/default settings.
Let me know the result! With my settings I solved my issues!
Regards,
kalo86

- THIS WIFI FIX PROPOSED BY ME DO NOT SOLVE THE DELAYED NOTIFICATIONS.

PS: please vote the poll, that will help me and other people! Thanks for your help!
Well thanks for your willingness to help but could you provide us with a " changelog " ??

Yea, changes you made would be nice.
Does this also (finally) fix the inglorious "no Push Notification while screen is off"-Bug?
People I made a simple thing: I extracted the WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini from an official LG Optimus G Rom (a device which shares the same hardware of our Nexus 4) and this file seems to work fine.
I did not test if this workaround fixes the missing notifications bug when the screen is off.
Battery life will drop like a rock with this. It won't let your phone sleep while you're on WiFi. Actually knew of this before but the battery life... Stopped using this when Prima Drivers were released but this is a GREAT workaround if you don't want the ARP issues caused by Prima Drivers. Another option is to set your router's beacon scanning to 10ms or less

Maybe I was not so clear.
I did NOT edited
from "gEnableBmps=1"
to "gEnableBmps=0"
but I simply adopted another ini file which is going very good and the battery life is the same like the stock ini file.

You should then remove that part from the Original Post. It confuses people. Not here to attack your thread or anything. I just misunderstood stuff

Yes, I'm sorry, I just removed that part because may confuse people.
Anyway I am getting the same performance of my notebook connected at the same wifi network.
Now I can watch videos without problems
This actually improved my wifi. Thanks!
Sadly, fell into a bootloop spiral after flashing this..
I hope it's my fault ( my phone's configuration fault)
Can someone else give feedback?
Thanks anyway!!
EDIT: Tried this a second time and all went well.
I'll send feedback later on.
Thank you!
Flashed fine here. Will update with battery life and Wi-Fi performance.

Will test this against the Prima Drivers. Comparing stock settings and this, I see that the code should theoretically work well
With one user going into a bootloop may I suggest that you post the rom you are on as well. This will also help narrow down any issues. Now for the guy who had an issue were you on a cm based rom or aosp?
running LiquidSmooth 2.5 and Semaphore kernel... flashed with no problem but Youtube streaming issues are still there
Cool gonna check this out. Oddly earlier this morning I was wondering why my n4 wifi slow at times.

My normal was always slower than on my laptop. I was getting 8-9 mb/sec and now I get 11-12. We'll see if battery life stays relatively the same.

You know, when I was reading original post, I felt like its sort of the advertisements that come on TV ( like are you fat? do you want to decrease your fat? are you facing hairfall problem?) Dont take it seriously! Just told what I got in mind
BTW I flashed this, and no bootloops for me atleast, I am running PA latest alpha with Franco R143 :highfive:
Ill post the results after testing for some hours!
Thanks for this!
Hi guys,
Maybe I have to explain better why I advice to flash the zip file.
In my house I have a DSL line @ 10Mbit/s but I cannot reach 4Mbit/s with my Nexus 4.
In the contrary my Galaxy Nexus and other 3 laptops reach the limit of my DSL wifi network.
I was getting very bad when I wanted to watch a video from Youtube with my Nexus and I only see a waiting/loading animation... This is bad.
For this reason I noticed that editing the config file something changed and so I adopted the LG Optimus G ini file, a smartphone which shares the same hardware of the Google Nexus 4.
I am using an AOSP based ROM (compiled from a pure source code by me) and with the stock kernel.
Wifi appears to be fixed and finally the wifi speed reach the DSL band limit.
This workaround solved my problem with my DSL router but it is not a rule that my fix will solve the world.
Battery life is really great, over 4h 30min screen and surfing on internet with wifi radio on for about 2 hours.
Again: my problem seems to be fixed.
