When I start Galaxy S I only see Clockworkmod text loading something and then it reboots.
When I try to enter Download mode, it does the same.
When I try to recovery, it does the same.
When I take battery off and insert USB cable and then battery, it shows that it starts charging but then it enters the bootloop. This should not be possible?
What to do next? Is the JTAG JIG only option and is it possible that it won't work?
Sort of the same here. My phone will start to the first samsung screen, shut off and reboot, and continue forever.
I tried flashing with odin but the phone shuts off before odin has a chance of flashing, any help? I would like to try out the android too, but the situation is forcing me back to apple phones.
I updated to CM 7.1 (2.3.7) from android 2.2 (stock)
On stock rom the key combinations did not work at first place. I had to go to download mode using: adb reboot download
Is this why I can't get to download mode? Since cyanogenmod does not touch the three-button-combinations?
Build a usb jig, Im confident it will work for you. Google it, you tube it, heres the link on this forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
My buddies phone was doing exactly what your phone is doing and I was able to use the jig to achieve DL mode and flash via odin. GL
Got the JIG.
It went straight to the download mode. Then reflashed to XXJVT.
Factory format and Cyanogenmod reinstall.
Works like a charm!
Thanks guys!

Hello. Earlier I was trying to update the captivate from Cognition 2.3b8 to Cognition 4. While flashing the rom using rom manager it gave me an error. After that I tried to flash back to stock using Odin 3 one click which made it worse. It said it flashed successfully but when it boots up it shows the Att logo then restarts. If it's plugged in it shows the battery meter then restarts. No 3 button/2 button combo works to put the phone into download mode, the computer doesnt see the phone. With no download mode, no recovery mode, boot loop, no odin, what else could I try next? I read on a thread that in build 1010 after oding the 3 button download mode doesnt work. I've looked everywhere and nothing. Any tips?
Google jig
What method are you trying to grey into dl mode
If build 1010 or higher read abd follow this

looks like jig could be my only option. i cannot go into download mode using the volume buttons. i could before i did odin 3. now it just boot loops. i cant redo odin 3 since theres no download mode and the lapton wont see the phone. drivers installed
Update: I made a jig and managed to put the phone in download mode but Odin strikes again and made it worse. When I clicked start using Odin3 it got stuck for some reason now the phone doesnt even show the att logo. It shows the Phone--!--Computer image and the jig doesnt seem to work anymore. Computer wont recognize the phone. Later I found out that Odin doesnt like Build 1010. Anyway to get around this or did I finally loose the phone? Thanks

you still have chance to use jig into download mode if you can see phone!computer icon. maybe your jig is not good enough?
Final Update: As stated, the jig was messed up. Anyway i managed to unbrick the phone. Turns out Build 1010 + odin one click bricks the phone. I managed to save it by using the jig to enter download mode then following the steps in this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10056254&postcount=36
The phone is stock now. Final step, flashing Cognition 4 hopefully correct this time. Thanks all for the help.
I know this is a common one but no love with 3-button combo. I flashed to stock with odin and was trying to reflash to get Cog 5. Got a red fail in Odin and then got the PH-!-Comp error. I have been reading for a few hours and have tried most of the available button/battery pull combos and can't pop it into download mode. Will a jig help that? I can build one but it seems like I am not fully "Bricked" per say and I am hoping that I just missed something. The Captivate is about a year old and that is the info that I have. Any new suggestions?
Oh, I also tried the OneClickUnbrick and that didn't pick up the device...
I had the same issue while installing Andromeda3. Just install the ROM manager and use the 'Reboot into Recovery' option and then install CWM..

He is getting the phone ! com screen how will he install rom manager ?
OP- Just remove the battery, cable open Odin put in the cable and then the battery and see if Odin recognizes ur phone. Or try some other combo vol up and cable, Both vol and and cable.
If the button combo does not work a jig will work for sure just make it or buy one.
Built a jig and it worked. At least to get me into download mode. Now I need to build a cleaner version of it. I do love XDA! Thanks.
I just one clicked back to stock from the phone! Com screen. Odin recognized my phone at that screen and boom back in business.
Word of advice from soft bricking (phone!pc) many times... always have a jig handy!
So, the phone worked well with CM9 for a while. Then the guy that owned the device attempted to update it, I'm not sure what went wrong but the fact of the matter is that it kept bootlooping on the CM9 splash screen. Entering into recovery was unresponsive and doing the three button combo to enter into Download Mode was unresponsive.
I followed a guide on here on how to make on my own jig. I successfully made the jig and I am able to enter into Download mode now. However, I am unsure what to do from here. I attempted to use Odin and flash a Corn kernel for the captivate, thinking I'd be able to boot into recovery and then flash a rom from that point. Unfortunately, I am unable to do this. Nothing boots up except the ATT screen now. Maybe there is a failsafe way in getting the phone back to working order?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Have you tried pulling the battery, holding down both volume buttons, and plugging the USB cable in to enter download mode? Once there, try flashing it back to the original state with Odin One-Click or similar. I have bricked and unbricked my phone at least twice, and each time was able to get it to recover by using this method. Hope it works for you. Good luck!
Thanks, it worked. I think I'm on Froyo now, but at least its working. I originally downloaded Odin-one Click but didn't recognize the interface. Thanks!
Hello, I was trying to root and install the CM7 on my Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830B. The root and the cwm installation processes worked with no problems, but when I installed the CM7 it just turned off and won't turn on again.
I can't flash a stock ROM via Odin cuz the pc won't recognize the device. It won't turn on in normal mode, downloading mode nor bootloader.
What can I do to solve this issue, please?
Thank you!

Which ROM You have flashed? If You can´t go to Recovery or Download mode, try USB JIG, if not work with JIG, I am sorry Your phone is bricked.
If Your phone can´t nothing try put out battery, connect Your Ace with usb cable (without battery), open odin, hold 3 buttons for download mode (vol.down+home+power) and WITH holding buttons put back baterry. If in Odin You can see yelow oblong with COM, You can now try flash new stock rom.

I tried installing Cyanogenmod 7.2. And err, is there any other way of trying to restore the phone instead of the USB JIG, cuz I don't have any. :/
I've already tried to go on the download mode by the steps you just said (power button+vol up./down + home), but the phone seems to be dead, it won't turn on in normal mode, download mode nor recovery. As the phone won't start in the download mode, i'm not able to flash anything via ODIN.
Is there anything else I could try? What if I try to flash STOCK ROM via ADB to SD CARD using ANOTHER CELLPHONE?
Thanks for helping.
Ah, another important info is that I think the phone "died" with the USB Debugging deactivated, so I think that's why the ADB can't recognize the device, right?

Hello XDA peeps,
So here is my situation, some days ago (like 3-4 months ago) I installed CM 10.1 on my Captivate. Everything went well and I can even open my phone and use it. But the problem was, after installing that ROM, I no longer can get into recovery mode or download mode. I tried everything possible, the button combo method, button combo and battery pull in method, button combo and USB pull in method and also tried ADB "restart recovery / reboot download" I think, (does not remember because it was 3-4 months ago). Tried everything correctly and stopped trying when I could not get into download mode or recovery mode. The last option I have is a USB jig, but the thing is I don't have it and I will need to buy it from abroad if I want it.
Some more information: When I try to put it in download mode, it gets in a boot loop (I see the AT&T logo and then reboots), the boot loop stops when I leave the buttons. And also when I switch on the phone, it does display the battery charging animation.
And also I've heard some people saying that it might be because I flashed some incompatible kernal or something. (This might be true, because I also don't remember what I did to flash the ROM )
So, I want to fix this now because I want to update my phone to the CyanFox 4.3 ROM which seems very cool . Is there anyway I can fix this recovery mode or download mode on this phone so that I could flash a new ROM to my phone (without the jig if possible)
Thank you lots peeps.

Download and recovery mode aren't affected by ROM flashing. If you can run your phone just fine, then your kernel is fine.
Now my guess is that one of your button isn't working properly, or that you're using the wrong combo. That being said, when you hold the power button (while phone is powered on), you should have an extended menu that gives you the option of booting in recovery or download mode, have you tried those?
As for a jig, you can make one if you don't wanna order one. It's fairly simple and we have a guide in here on how to for just a couple bucks.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I did try that also. But it just does a normal restart. I tried the the ADB "reboot recovery" also. It also didn't help. I even downloaded an app to reboot into recovery, but no help.
And yesterday I got a jig from my friend, it worked on his infuse but did not work on my Captivate. He said that it might be because he is using a 330K resistor. So I ordered a jig from ebay. It will take some time to reach here.
Is there anything else I can try? maybe push a recovery or something using ADB? Sorry if I am being noob here
Once again, thanks for your support.
At this point i would just wait for the jig. And yes, Samsung galaxy jig requires 301k.

Ok, I will wait for the jig and when I get it, I will post the result.
Once again Thank you for your help
Aaaand all of a sudden I was wondering, can this be a bootloader problem? Maybe my bootloader got locked somehow or something?
The best thing is still to wait for the Jig or make one, as BWolf56 suggested.
Once ya have the Jig and If u can get into Download Mode with it, I suggest that u flash the One Click Odin or Heimdall Stock Android 2.3.5 i897uckk4 that includes the Bootloaders. (See the stickied One Click thread in the Dev forum, Post #3). If that is successful, do not flash any Bootloaders again. U can then proceed to flash the KK4 Corn Kernel, the .tar version of the kernel v7.0A, through Odin and then use that CWM Recovery that is baked into that kernel to go on flashin other Roms, etc.
If u cannot get into Download Mode with the Jig, then ur micro usb port of ur phone may be the fault. (But still an app should work from the play store to reboot to download or recovery)...anyway that is all i got for now.
Keep us posted.
