Hello,
How to remove those files which are not really necessary required after uninstalling apps.
Is there any special application for this ?
By the way using Galaxy S gingerbread XXJVT
Thanks!1

Get nitrality from market. It will remove most system apps and associated lib files.

SD Maid -> Corpse Finder will remove old setting files and databases left over by uninstalled apps
This was pretty bad on froyo, it got alot better on gingerbread but still is not perfect.
If you mean folders on /sdcard/, as e.g. /sdcard/opera there is currently no way to automaticly remove those.
I have some ideas, but nothing reliable enough .

SD Maid -> System Cleaner, will remove known unnecessary files.
Tombstones are debug files / reports of crashed apps.
It will remove left over caches from market downloads too.
SD Maid has an official thread on XDA btw:

thanks alot.
i think this will do

[Q] More apps in system partition

Hi,
on Gingerbread/CM7, is there a way to put more apps to the /system partition? I am always low on space for apps, even though i have moved almost all my apps to sd using the A2SD function. Currently, only market and rommanager are on /system, i would like to move some more gapps to /system if possiblr.
PS. DT apps2sd is no option for me since it keeps on crashing my nexus one.
Thanks!
Use Root Explorer from the market and move the .APK's to /system/app. Other alternative is to use the premium version of Titanium Backup and use the option to "integrate update into ROM."

i just finally switched to yesterday's CM7 nightly, and with moving all my apps to the SD card with just the standard (but improved via gingerbread) a2sd method, i now have 130MB free space with 81 apps installed. i wonder if the new release puts some things on system partition automatically that i dont know about.

Thanks, I think the 130MB is your free space on the sd-card? Isn't 130MB about the total space available for apps?

Thanks, Root explorer does the trick! Isn't Titanium's "integrate update into ROM" only available for apps that are already in the system dir?

Sorry, yes. But this a handy feature because even though you may have a app stored within \system\app, if you install a market update, the update will go to \data\app. You would then need to manually move the update to \system\app and replace the old .apk file. If you don't, then the app is stored in 2 places and is an inefficient use of memory.

No that is my internal free space. I just moved all apps to the card with the standard froyo method.

So I can just manually move apps with root explorer to free up space? I'll give it a shot.
Sorry I have 110 free, not 130. I just checked.
Dumb question, once I move the app It no longer opens cause it has moved. How exactly do I handle this? I tried the market, vending, for example.
Never mind, change permissions then reboot solved it. BTW strangely before you reboot the free space actually goes in the opposite direction showing less free space after the move, till a reboot.
Glad it worked for you Roger. Personally, I have never had to change the permissions, but just needed to make sure I renamed the update exactly the same as was in system, reboot and enjoy.
Seems to be working well. I'm still confused how I have so much free space. It says 114mb free right now with 81 apps installed. Granted they are just regular sized apps, nothing huge.

Install and uninstall apps will cause residue files in system memory?

If we install/uninstall any apps, will the uninstall really clean/delete all the files from the system memory? For PC software sometimes it leaves something in the registry key or system directory.
Will Android has the same issue?

althou android doesnt have a registry.. i have seen that some apps leave their custom folders and files in the usb storage... which i have to find and delete manually.. mainly games and other apps that download data after installation
I'm also interested to know about this too...with Windows I'm pretty careful with what to install as I don't like too many un/installs...curious to know how Android handles many un/installs...

Based on my experience there are many leftovers even after un-install. One suggestion is to use the 'Clear Data' button before uninstalling an app. However, even after this there will be leftovers esp in the sdcard\Android folder.
Left over under Android folder still manageable, my worry is it left something in the restricted folder where we have no access unless we root. Is matter of time run out of internal memory until factory rest.

it depend on what kinda that you use. some apps will left empty folders when you uninstall it.
same here
I actually have the same worry with my phone since I keep on trying different apps.. I just "clean data" and "clean cache" for the app before I uninstall it and I dont have problems with that..
The tool that I use is SDmaid. It helps me in identifying leftover folders and app debries. You can automatically delete them using the app.
Worked fine for me.

I tried SD Maid, it did help to free out at least 200+Mb of internal memory. Cool..

Most of the time, the biggest "trash" SD maid cleans up is the Gallery thumbnails..
Soooo when you startup your gallery app again, it regenerates the thumbnails so youre back to square one.. LOL
I am referring to internal memory, it freed up about 200+MB from program cache. Correct, the thumb view file (another 200+MB) from gallery reside at sd card will rebuild after delete.
Funny thing is wipe cache at CWM won't free up the internal memory.

I've noticed on ics that games and some apps leave folders on the usb storage. Gb used to remove them..

For a specific case...
phone had installed the free version of AutomateIt.
Uninstalled it by: "clear cache", "clear data", force stop", and then "uninstall". Then rebooted phone.
A bit later searching the storage noticed a "AutomateIt" folder in Device Storage.
The AutomateIt folder contains a subfolder "Backups", which contains 3 files (all .AiR files). (two are 1kb, one is 0kb) .
Is it safe to manually delete these files and folders?
Are there any apps similar to SDmaid but for unrooted phones? (no root yet for Atrix HD, so not even an option)
Some apps leave behind files or folders no matter what you do. I just manually remove them using a file explorer.
This is my observation. Hope this helps.

[Q] how can I make more free space in /system

Hi,
I'm with AOKP rom M6, my /system folder is full (I have only 12kb free).
Is there any way to make it bigger?
Thanks.
Anyone?
all you can do is to uninstall some apps that u dont use, like life wallpapers, and any other apps that u dont use, u can use titanium backup for this.

This is certainly the safest way to do it. You can also use any root explorer (like, for example, rootexplorer) and start deleting things. Not any thing, mind you. Just apps, fonts or media files in their respective folders. And it's very risky if you don't know what you're deleting.
Also, you can move system apps to the sdcard by making them user apps (with Titanium or a similar tool). However, most system apps don't work correctly if you convert them to user apps, so be careful with this too.
What the people above me are saying: you can't just increase the space that will be available in /system from, let's say 250mb to 500mb. You will have to mess with your phone's partitioning, which can be done, but is fairly risky business. This goes for any repartitioning, not just on android, but also on Windows, Mac. An easier way would be to free up space by deleting anything neccesary in /system.
For instance, delete the .apk files from apps you don't ever use (and know what they're for! Don't ever delete anything of which you don't know what it is!) in /system/app.
And see what's in /system/media - that could save some space as well. Just don't touch /system/lib!
And finally, you could also get Titanium Backup Pro to convert system apps to user apps, this will free up some space as well. By doing all this, I recently managed to free up about 30mb on my /system.
You can move some apps to SD card. Go to system -> applications -> choose application -> move to SD card

[Q] 'Not enough space' only solution is root?

Hi, my girlfriend have this phone and pratically she always have 20-30mb free on internal storage.
It's something like 159mb storage and just facebook its 40mb. She has a really low number of essential apps, and I already moved every possible app to the SD.
She keeps getting this NOT ENOUGH SPACE error, and everytime I have to clear facebook data to remove that.
Is the only solution to root the device to let more apps into the SD? is there any other workaround cause I would like to avoid to root her phone.
No ...! I think theres no other solution to move apps into sd when the device is not rooted.. bcoz like link2sd... it needs a superuser permission..and superuser works on rooted device

Also, you can not uninstall unecessary system apps, to create space in /system partition, without root acces

In my opinion the best solution is link2sd and in developement section is how to simply root/unroot your phone ... you can do a totaly backup your stock rom and install root patch ... then superuser app and link2sd ... you must partition your memory card ... you can do this in windows or linus with some free apps ... if you are afraid that your girlfriend will kill phone you can in superuser add only link2sd for root permission and when something will going wrong you can restore backup that you will do
I use always link2sd becose I have alot apps installed
Sorry for my bad english

in addition to saeed's answer, i should say that u remove facebook cache because it consumes a lot of space (use apps like 1tap cache cleaner).....no need to clear the app data
Try this tutorial: http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...-force-install-apps-sd-card-without-root.html
When my phone was not rooted I tried this tutorial and I was able to move Facebook and other unmovable USER apps to SDCard without ROOT!

umm I think it's possible, but you'll need a class6/10 sdcard, if not you'll get a painful lag

Ok, so go ahead!! and report then
So it's SAFE to move to sd apps not included into the rom. If you want to move an app that come perinstalled in your rom onto your sd card with Titanium Backup you need to uninstall the app you want to move or make the app a normal apk not included into the rom on your sd from the rom itself, reinstall it as a normal .apk if you unistalled it and than move it to sd card. That'all folks
I'll write a little and more detailed guide if you think it's useful
O.P. Is safe to freez samsungapps.apk and samsungappsUNA.apk?
