Has anyone had luck finding an app that can turn on or off the 4G radio (or all data) based on location? I am looking for a way to toggle data and wifi when getting home and to work. So far, I have tried llama and automateIt and while both toggle wifi fine, neither are able to toggle the 4G radio. Anybody have luck doing this? If tasker is the solution, I'll buy it.
Thanks

Tasker can do that I think.

I am running Fresh 2.3.3 with baseband 2.42.01.04.27 and for some reason, my 3G is not working. I have tried getting the stock radio and updating my PRL (my PRL version right now is flipz_01). Nothing seems to working. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks a lot for any suggestions

I noticed that to. When I have WiFi activated, 3G disappears. I don't know if it's a real estate issue, or it isn't working.

Well 3G turns off when WiFi is enabled, but that is not my problem, my 3G just doesn't work, I have to rely on WiFi..

after I rooted my phone, the 3g didn't work. actually i'm not even sure if my 3g had ever worked before that. it's stuck on 1x.

Put the phone in airplane mode and leave it there for a minute or so, then turn airplane mode back off. That refreshes your phone's data connection. Then also try updating Profile in the Settings->About phone->System updates menu -- that refreshes your signal and data profiles with Sprint towers.

Thanks, but it didn't work... this is getting frustrating! I've tried everything! At least they're sending me a refurb, hopefully I get a dust filter this time around, too (and a "with Google" sticker on the back!!!!)
I don't suppose anyone knows of an app that can automatically turn on tethering when specified wifi access points are not available?
Like many others I dont want a data plan on my xoom so I tether using my phone when I am not near an access point. I get damned good battery life on my nexus one, but I still don't want to leave tethering on all the time. I would be nice if I could have it automatically turn on tethering when my known wifi APs are not available.
You could probably use Tasker to do this - You'd have to configure it yourself, but it would work.

Don't know of an automated way but Hotspot Toggle in the market is a good widget you can place on your home screen. One touch on and off.
I was thinking that I could combine your answers to get a solution, but hotspot doesn't show up as an app in tasker.

Without rooting your phone and having an app require root, you won't find this capability. In one of the recent major android builds google removed the ability for applications to turn on and off wifi automatically.
hello I was wondering if there is a way I could turn off the 4 g on my lg revolution I know that you can for the thunderbolt is it possible for this phone?
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA Premium App
Yes, you can turn off 4G.
Menu Button>Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>System select>Network Mode>Click CDMA only.
It will reboot your phone, but this is how it is done on the LG Revolution.
There is an app you can download called the LTE Switch which bypasses some of these steps to make it easier and quicker.
Turn off Mobile, keep Wifi
If you want to turn of mobile data but keep wifi without rebooting your phone, I found Power Control Plus from the Android Market works well for this. Just by pressing the "3G" button it does shut off LTE and 3G but will allow Wifi traffic and calls. I think you can find it for free elsewhere, but I opted to pay $1.99 because I couldn't find anything else that would work.. not even Widgetsoid2x did the trick.

Dataswitch is good. Wish that separate app for just enabling data and another separate app just for disabling data

Anyone have a working root wifi tether working on the Droid 4 yet?
WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.1-beta11 works great for me
nm (see above post)
FoxFi works great, and doesnt require root. I use it all the time. Only thing different from the one posted above is it allows BT tether also, but doesnt tell you when someone logs onto your phone.

So you have 4G sharing with that??
Yes you will have 4G speeds. In my experience with the Google project one which IMO is the best, if your on the move and your tethering from tower to tower and you lose 4G signal, its hard for your phone to re-connect to 4G. It just stays on 3G until you toggle airplane mode then restart tethering. My DROID 2 did the same thing. If 3G signal got really low, it would go to the edge network and wouldn't go back to 3G sometimes.

My personal preference is PDAnet, but for wireless, I second the google projects one.
Does anyone know whether it does active masking like PDAnet? One thing I like about PDAnet is that it is supposed to mask the fact that you are tethering, and it doesn't seem to trip the built-in hotspot indicator (which makes me nervous).
Cant believe i had to download one or else my 3g would be on. Now i didnt see the need to download one for bluetooth wifi etc as the pull screen is built in so im very shocked its not part of the phone! Luv the note but samsung get it together lol

i also wondered why there is no direct option to turn off 3g from drop down notifications? i switch constantly and it is frustrating not to have it while some do
the apps you can get from market dont do it directly - they just take you to the settings page which then you have to further click twice
however my friend who had an s2 with orange network in the uk which had this option in the drop down wheras the s2 with tmobile didnt - confused
I'd recommend Widgetsoid for all your toggling needs. It's free and
provides all the toggles you might ever need.
Press and hold the power button, it brings it up on the menu right there.
Simples!

As someone else has said, press and hold the power button....and the 3g toggle comes up. Also, there are 3g toggle widgets that don't take you to the settings screen, I have one....it turns 3g on or off right from my home screen.

that is data network mode on/off right? we still need to go to settings if we just want 3g off but gprs/edge on. we have to depend on widgets/3rd party apps i guess.

I understanding is that when you off data network , 3G data also off right ?
Try Data Enabler widget for switching data on or off.

switching data off is not the same as switching off 3g access

nice app but doesnt solve the problem - the 2g/3g toggle only takes you to the option page where you have to change the setting directly yourself

wish it was that simples but as mentioned in above post enabling/disabling data isn't the same as 2g/3g toggle

are you sure you mean 2g/3g toggle? you will still have internet access when with 2g/3g but 2g (gsm mode) is alot slower than 3g but saves battery

2g/3g toggle is not the same as data on/off - data is still enabled when you have 2g mode on
