[QUESTION]Flash Custom Kernel (CM7) - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All,
I used to run DarkyRom 10.2 Extreme. Now I am on Cyanogenmod 7.1.0-GalaxyS.
Phone Details:
ROM: Cyanogenmod 7.1.0-GalaxyS
Android Version: 2.3.7
Baseband Version: I9000XXJVT
Kernel: 2.6.35.12-gdf10700 [email protected] #1 - not sure what kernel this is??
Build Number: GWK74
~Questions:~
Can I flash a custom kernel over the top of this currently installed ROM (like I did when I flashed the JVT Modem to fix my data connection)?
I have read that the Recovery is stored in the Kernel - So if I flash a different kernel will it replace my CwM 5.0.2.6? (I have noticed there are different colours of CwM Recovery - is this because of the kernel?
Thankyou for any help

Yes you can flash custom kernels, just be sure that the kernel you flash is for Cm7/MIUI and not sammy stock ROM. I have tried Glitch myself a couple times, but I stay on stock CM7 kernel for the moment since i find it more stable.
Peace out!

1. Yes, but before flashing a new kernel flash this script.
2. Correct, but if I'm not mistaken all the major kernels have CWM5 (Platypus Neo 18, FuguMod, Glitch)
Also, you might want to switch to CM nightly #181 instead of 7.1 stable, just a suggestion. 7.1 is quite outdated.

Thankyou very much for the replies, I will flash the nightly tonight using ROM Manager

[Q] How to flash custom roms (AOKP) in JV1 build

Hi,
I am currently on the leaked gb build 2.3.2 and my build number is XWJV1. I saw that there is no CWM recovery for the current build so how can i install roms like AOKP in my i9000 without CWM?
Thanks

I think you would just have to flash a kernel with CWM.
For example, CF Root for JV1, includes:
"CF-Root takes the kernel from an original Samsung firmware, and just adds root, busybox, and (unprotected recovery and CWM compatibility) OR (CWM3)"
I can't post a link because I'm a junior member. Look in the i9000 Development section, search CF Root JV1.

Enter Download mode, flash via Odin a firmware (like JVU) that has got a compatible kernel (like semaphore) and you'll' have access to recovery mode, from where you could flash any .zip AOKP rom.

Problems booting to install Roms

Because some roms are left hanging in the beginning and not booting, my phone is a Huawei U9000 X6, I tested several of the forum but none work properly, now I have Android v2.3.7 and want to do the upgrade to 4.0.
In advance thank you very much.

You gotta remember this ;-
You need kernel 2.6.35.7 for all ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) Roms
You need kernel 2.6.32.9 for most GB (Ginger Bread) Roms
Android RC3 runs on 2.6.35.7
I think you should flash RC3 via SUT. Flashing RC3 gives you a stable OS and automatically gives you Clockworkmod so you can boot into recovery and flash any ics rom directly after this or any 2.6.35.7 based GB Rom
For some reason though, on neither kernels, this -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619837 boots for me.
The indicator of wrong kernel is Blue screen on bootup

Flashing RC3 automatically gives you the ics kernel.
You can also use CK Kernel 0.4d in dev threads and flash via cwm but it will not work with your current rom

Yes. That should do the trick.
As an alternative, you can still flash GB stock from your manufacturer (most likely .32 kernel).

[Q] update kernel Philz

Hi everybody, i'm looking for the right Philz kernel to download.
I don't remember what was my kernel code (ex : XXXLRI etc.)
I ve already rooted my Note with Philz (8 or 9 mounths ago) and i am currently using ParanoidAndroid 3.15 from 26 march
I wanted to upgrade my kernel to get the touch philz kernel.
But when i look to my kernel name, in order to find which zip should i download, it's not containing any XXX*** data.
Here is my new code : [email protected] #1
version : N7000XXLRB
Android 4.2.2
I've tried both command on terminal to get them but i can't find any
#getprop and #cat /proc/version
I've flashed the XXXLRI Philz, it worked for a moment but when i flashed PA 3.15, it was like the kernel didnt get update because i dont have the same menu and no touch.
Any help is welcome
Apologies me for my bad english, it's not my native language.

Ok thank you for your answer.
Please, let me ask you one more question. How can i get my kernel code from what i wrote : [email protected] #1
Which command on the terminal can give me more info about it ?
Thank you
Which you the best, Nk54
What kernel code? The example you mentioned in op is the rom name like xxlrt or ddlrb.

version : N7000XXLRB is it this ?
I can't find any information. I tryed cat /proc/version and get just the name of the build.
I tryed to find it by installing a cpuManager, which show me system info, no more information here :/
What does that means ?
Thank you again
1. N7000XXLRB is your Modem/radio
2. ParanoidAndroid 3.15 from 26 march have Cm 10.1 kernel, and you cant use Philz kernel in AOSP roms. Philz kernel supported only in stock based touch wiz roms.

[Q] I need help updating Ultimate JB v5.1 rom to v6 rom. Any1 out there to help?

Right guys heres the info...
Samsung Galaxy Note GT N7000
Rom Version: Ultimate XXLSC ROM
Build number: Ultimate XXLSC JellyBean 4.1.2 v5.1
Kernel Version: 3.0.31 - 593490 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Tue Nov 27 02:33:05 KST 2012
Now thats out the way let me explain this as clearly as possible.
All i basically want to do is to update my v5.1 to v6.
Well i read through everything and read that I had to be on a safe kernel.
To where my understanding goes I should be doing this:
Going into CWM > wiping the data and stuff > then booting back into CWM using the advanced tab > then installing the new version of the ultimate rom.
I dont need to be flashing philz new version-ed kernel via odin? because the truth is I DNT KNOW HOW TO!! lol
Is that what I should be doing or something else?
Please Help Guys
Appreciate the help Lads.
If your on ultimate ROM already then you should have the kernel that was with the ROM which is safe but your not sure you can flash philz kernel with cwm just download the one for your ROM version in .zip form and flash as normal also with philz kernel you will still have the stock version showing up in your info because his kernel is stock so if your on an custom jb ROM then your kernel is safe just flash as normal another thing is that philz kernel is a touch interface in recovery that is a easy way of knowing if its philz or not but like I said jb and cwm is safe
