Hi,
I am currently on the leaked gb build 2.3.2 and my build number is XWJV1. I saw that there is no CWM recovery for the current build so how can i install roms like AOKP in my i9000 without CWM?
Thanks

I think you would just have to flash a kernel with CWM.
For example, CF Root for JV1, includes:
"CF-Root takes the kernel from an original Samsung firmware, and just adds root, busybox, and (unprotected recovery and CWM compatibility) OR (CWM3)"
I can't post a link because I'm a junior member. Look in the i9000 Development section, search CF Root JV1.

Enter Download mode, flash via Odin a firmware (like JVU) that has got a compatible kernel (like semaphore) and you'll' have access to recovery mode, from where you could flash any .zip AOKP rom.

Hello All,
I used to run DarkyRom 10.2 Extreme. Now I am on Cyanogenmod 7.1.0-GalaxyS.
Phone Details:
ROM: Cyanogenmod 7.1.0-GalaxyS
Android Version: 2.3.7
Baseband Version: I9000XXJVT
Kernel: 2.6.35.12-gdf10700 [email protected] #1 - not sure what kernel this is??
Build Number: GWK74
~Questions:~
Can I flash a custom kernel over the top of this currently installed ROM (like I did when I flashed the JVT Modem to fix my data connection)?
I have read that the Recovery is stored in the Kernel - So if I flash a different kernel will it replace my CwM 5.0.2.6? (I have noticed there are different colours of CwM Recovery - is this because of the kernel?
Thankyou for any help

Yes you can flash custom kernels, just be sure that the kernel you flash is for Cm7/MIUI and not sammy stock ROM. I have tried Glitch myself a couple times, but I stay on stock CM7 kernel for the moment since i find it more stable.
Peace out!

1. Yes, but before flashing a new kernel flash this script.
2. Correct, but if I'm not mistaken all the major kernels have CWM5 (Platypus Neo 18, FuguMod, Glitch)
Also, you might want to switch to CM nightly #181 instead of 7.1 stable, just a suggestion. 7.1 is quite outdated.
Thankyou very much for the replies, I will flash the nightly tonight using ROM Manager
okay i have seen kernel in the android development section there.. there 2 type devil ics/jellybean kernel and a semaphore kernel.. now the problem is how do i use them? or how to flash them?

Essentially, you want to use Odin to flash a custom rom that is rooted with clockworkmod recovery. From there, you can simply download the .zip file of the rom to your phone and flash it from recovery mode.

Hi, I need help with my Galaxy Note. I just buy secondhand Galaxy Note, it has XXLS2 4.1.1 rom for now. I want flash AOSPA 4.2.1 rom on it. My previous phone was HTC HD2, so I'm used to flashing without limitation So, I need your help to tell me if I'm thing good about it. So, firstly I must flash Philz kernel for my phone, to get root and recovery. But for my rom is only version 2.7... is it safe to flash? And next I can just do full wipe, reboot, and flash AOSPA 4.2.1 rom, yes?
You won't be able to flash a aokp rom using philz 2.7 as it will not install and error 7.
-Install Philz and gain root and cwm
-Then place all the required files to flash the rom to storage.
-Then flash a different safe kernel like hydracore or cm kernel.
-Boot into recovery and do wipes and formats and flash. the rom. (while on a different kernel you might not be able to boot into the rom. Just recovery)
And version 2.7 is safe? Why there is no 3.99 version for this rom? But when I finally flash PA rom, I can stay with kernel included in this rom? Or I need to flash cm kernel second time? I'm going to make backup before flashing new rom, but I'm just wondering if I can normally recover this on PA rom or I need to flash stock philz kernel before restoring... So the "diffrent safe" kernel may be "Kernel_CM10.1_20130126_Nightly_CWM.zip", yes? It will work with aosp based pa rom? I'm going to flash 2.99 version...

Yes 2.7 is safe. Just that it cannot install some roms.
Because it's and old kernel.
Yes stay with the kernel included in the rom
Yes PA has a safe kernel and the backup can be restored.
Any kernel like hydracore or cm will do.
Also 2.99 PA might not to that's stable. So.. Your choice. You can use and older version like 2.57 as well
Actually Philz 2.7 is ICS/older JB, and therefore not subject to error 7. Good to wipe and Flash ROMs with. (It's safe too)

Hello everyone, i am new in the forum. I want to install the new paranoid 3.5 on my n7000 with stock JB rom (N7000XXSLZ). My question is if i can flash the hydracore kernel v7 using directly PC Odin without risk hard brick or yellow triangle. Then my idea is to flash the paranoid rom from CWM how can i proceed?
Tanks to all
Check if hydracore kernel can be flashed on JB ROMs on the thread of the kernel. If it is compatible with stock JB ROMs you can safely flash it without any risks. After that you enter the recovery and install the .zip file of PA 3.5

You need to look at the build number of your current rom and flash Philz kernel accordingly.. By the way what rom are you on and is it rooted already?

The build number for that rom is dxlse. Go to Philz thread and check if there is an updated kernel for that.
ok, thanks! I will try flash stock rom & root again. ^^
