Kaiser, is still a worth buy??

Hi to all, I'm a quite happy owner of a orbit2 (aka Polaris).
A few days ago I was wondering in a used marcket and I found a used Kaiser at a price that it was impossible a year ago.
I need a second mobile phone and I'm wondering if kaiser is still a wotrh buy, now that there are G1 and G2.
So I ask my question to the Kaiser community....
Thanks to any suggestion
Yes Kaiser\Tilt still worth buy @ good price...
Probably not going to get an unbiased view in a Kaiser\Tilt forum section

Yes, you're probably right, it's difficult that I could have an unbiased answer, but I think that kaiser owner could be disappointed of their device or are looking forward to the new tech, maybe without lack of driver
And I find it at 200 euros...is it a good price?? I think so, maybe because I buy my polaris a year ago at 400
I had the Tilt over a year ago and sold it but just bought another one on eBay days ago for around 190 US.
Worth the buy to me...

Totally agree will possibly find some unhappy Kaiser users
Not sure on the currency value of £ to € in UK £150 - £200 is a good price, the Kaiser is still a very good device, driver issue really not a bigee "well not to me"
Also many ROMs to choose from and the lovely Tilt Keyboard only on TP2 too.
Yep i'm biased

I too am biased. Bought mine on Ebay a year ago for $275US and with all the ROMS to choose from nowadays it hard not to be happy with it.
My Nokia N95 recently died, and so I went hunting on eBay for a new phone (I wanted a Windows Mobile device this time).
I came across the Kaiser at £125 buy it now, so bought it. This was about 2 weeks ago, and I'm planning on putting it back up on eBay now
It's a nice phone, but it's not without it's problems that really annoy me.
The keyboard - I much preferred the number pad on my N95 with the T9 predictive text. The Kaiser has T9, but you still have to use the QWERTY keyboard
No 3.5mm headphone socket. I bought an adapter, and after 4 days of use it fell to pieces this morning.
Stylus - I've lost the pen once already, but found it again in the library.
Crashes - I'm running the Ultimate X V2 ROM, and so far today it's crashed 3 times on me today
No graphics drivers - means I can't play graphics accelerated games, and normal games become laggy
Games become laggy even moreso when you touch the screen whilst playing
If you receive a text and can't view it straight away, if the phone is in your pocket all the touchscreen gets pressed and opens loads of programs
I'm sure there's more but I can't think of it right now!

I picked mine up for £90 on ebay which included the case, spare battery and docking station, bargin or what.
Thomas, I changed from a N95 also to this and I wouldnt go back, try a different ROM, Im using Chinhe wm 6.5F 21501. WM 6.5 is so much better then 6.1 and the Manila 2d interface is excellent. Add a few extra apps like youtube, MyPlayer (BBC I-Player) and shed loads of other things and you will have a excellent device, drop me a pm if you like and ill let you know how i set mine out and you will love it
It all comes down to preference. Personally, I wouldn't buy another tilt for two reasons: VGA screens are MUCH nicer for web browsing, and the recessed screen is substantially less finger-friendly.
Aside from those two issues, though, it's a pretty solid device. I think the Touch Pro is a pretty solid step up, but the Tilt might be worth it depending on price.
I got rid of my Kaiser when I bought both a G1 and a Raphael: G1 is gone and I bought another Kaiser. The Kaiser is cheap (around $165 on ebay if timed right), still more powerful than most phones, super-reliable and strong. Add in the fact that you can unlock them for free and all the software available and this one is sticking with me until it dies. Honestly, the Raphael's screen is nice, but it really doesn't FEEL any faster than the Kaiser. So in the end, all you get is more ram, a sharper screen, and a G-sensor...for $150 more than a Kaiser.
£90 is a bargain!
My Kaiser was on Orange originally, and although it's now unlocked, on any ROM except the Orange (or so it seems) it sends every text twice and charges me double!
I'll have a look at the I-Player software... but I tried Manilla 2D and didn't really like it that much (I seem to have contrasting opinions to everyone else here ).
Now I've got a stable ROM running I must say it is growing on me, especially as I enjoy developing software in C#, and Windows Mobile has the .NET Compact Framework.
Well im currently running Chinhe wm 6.5 21501 v3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509576) . It is quite a lite package but so far it is very stable add to that the Manilla 2d thats pre installed and add the 'New HTC' skin it looks sooooo nice, ive showed it to all my mates including IPhone owners and they have been blown away. I can highly recommend the last FM app (Uk owners only) for live streaming music.
When using the iplayer (myplayer) u need to tweak it to use the steaming player that comes preinstalled.
Ive attached a few goodies for you all, enjoy ya phones, I was a Nokia fan for for 12 years but now im a HTC convert.
I just tried to sell my AT&T Tilt on eBay, not once but twice with a starting price of $150 and didn't get a single bid! If anyone here is interested in it, you can PM me or e-mail me at [email protected]
It has a few scuffs, and a piece of the trim by the SIM holder is broken off, but it works fine (just have to be careful when you are putting the SIM in).

Thats where you went wrong, starting at $150 way to high, if im surfing ebay for something I watch Items and bid at the last min, like what most people do. Start at 99c you will get a hell of alot more interest then $150.
i have the tmobile kaiser since more then 18 months now, quite happy with it. however the newer models from HTC seem to be better and even the latest symbian's from nokia would be worth a try.
depends more on preference / usage / pricing / etc.

UK User Desire or N1 ?

Hello guys,
I've put my HD2 up for sale and i'm looking for a Android phone.
I've obviously got the Desire and N1 in mind however choosing between the two i'm just so unsure.
The Desire has the SenseUI which I love on my HD2, and by my understanding the Widgets are pretty good compared to the N1, but the Android updates will be slower because of SenseUI needing to be integrated on each release.
But I have to admit i'm one of those people who needs a device running on the latest software being all it can be, so with the fact the N1 is already on Froyo 2.2 i'm then pulled towards this phone, as I'm doubtful the Desire will receive the same support over time.
Also if I Root the N1 I presume some people are putting Sense UI on the N1's and I could do the same>?
Likewise could I do the same thing on the Desire, i.e. Vanilla Froyo 2.2 without SenseUI on the Desire? or are they different internally?
My other headache is I would need to buy the N1 from the states, and am concerned of it not working properly in the UK.
with pinch to zoom on the N1 now, the only difference is the slightley different pshyical layout, and SenseUI, with N1 getting the updates first.
If i've said anything incorrect please let me know, correct me, more information is always good
If any UK users can tell me how easy a UK order is
And if you were buying one now which would you buy?
Thanks, Luke.
The Desire SenseUI isn't the same as the HD2's SenseUI so loving it on one doesn't mean you'll love it on the other.
It's very easy to order from the UK, mine took 3/4 days to arrive (ordered Tuesday evening, arrived Friday). Everything works fine... the so called 'T-Mobile' version has all the right frequencies for the UK and it comes with the right locale settings for us.
Get N1, put MoDaCo ROM on it and you'll have Sense UI
I had Desire here in the UK, but it turned out to be not geeky enough for me, so I sold it and got Nexus One.
Personally I love the trackball on the N1. The light is awesome. I missed that the most from my blackberry perl when I used an iPhone.
Just my opinion I for not live in the UK so I can't really comment on the specifics for the area.
I bought an N1 and still would if I had to make the choice again. Although I did like SenseUI, it simply wasn't important enough when comparing it against how quick the N1 will get OS updates over other Android devices. The N1 and Desire are very similar phones performance wise, whereas newer Android devices have a better camera etc these two are virtually identical. Therefore it comes down to a pretty simple choice, how quick do you want updates
I appreciate what your saying, and accept that the Sense isn't the same, but while not the same I can see the appeal.
As for the 'T-Mobile' version do I have to specify it at point of sale?
The Modaco Rom looks most interesting i'll investigate it and see what happens. So far i'm leaning more to the N1.
BTW I heard a rumor Google were stop selling the N1 themselves is this true?
They will not sell N1 via the website, but it will still be available via carriers. In the US it will only be T-Mobile, because everyone else decided to not sell N1 and sell Evo 4G and Incredible instead.
In the UK, there should be more carriers, but for now it's only Vodafone as far as I know.
Interesting you say this as i'm on the payments page (was looking for total cost)

it's still for sale at the mo, but a recent googlerumour (tm) said they'd soon be stopping the http://google.com/phone purchase store, only having links to carriers.
I bought one a few months back, first android phone (came from a HTC touch Pro (pm me if anyone wants to buy)) and have to say it is a ruddy good phone, total cost including import tax was a fair bit but still less than having a contract @ £35 a month for 18 months min.
I'm happy with mine and would do the same again.
Personally I like the N1 better. I have an N1 and my brother-in-law has the Desire. Both are nice phones but I liked android stock, speech-to-text and noise cancellation. The sense UI does give the perception of a more polished phone, though, which is ideal if you just want that polished experience and don't care for fiddling around with rooting and different roms. My brother-in-law isn't a geek and just wanted a smartphone to use for social networks and to replace his tom-tom, so the Desire is ideal for him too.
They're basically the same phone and it all depends on how you'll use it. For me, no other phone has voice dictation and noise cancellation and so the N1 stands out from all the rest.
Word of advice:
DO NOT BUY THE UK CHARGER
It's not worth it, I use an 80p shaver plug from ASDA with the supplied US charger.
After extended looking at the two phones the Sense UI is starting to win me over... The Nexus 1 is the modders phone, but what are the widgets like? Sense look really good and useful.
I would say if your going to stick to Stock then Get the Samsung Galaxy S I hear its amazingly Fast!! but if you want to Root get the nexus one.
it will be rooted, but for the purpose of being right up to date. with the best apps.
it's either Desire or Nexus 1.

Then it has to be the N1.
Desire isnt as easy to root. The current root for it doesnt allow you to write to the filesystem if I understand corectly. So if you want to have the most options available to you, I would go for the N1.
WARNING
You should also be aware that the total cost on googles site is not the total cost at all, when ordering to the UK you will be charged a variety of taxes including VAT and customs tax etc etc which make the phone alot more expensive. I personally recomend you buying the phone from a friend with an upgrade coming on Voda, most people find it hard to turn down £400 cash. Thats just my 2 pence
You only pay VAT at 17.5%. There's no duties or customs taxes on the phone itself.
You only pay duty on accesories, eg the UK plug - which is pointless - just use a US to UK adapter for 50p

[Q] Who are the Bell users left with the HTC Touch

As my touch screen begins to select different areas randomly, I am eBaying a new digitizer for my 5 year-old HTC touch and wondering - who else is left using this as their primary device on Bell in Canada?
My Wife and I are still on Bell Vogue. A white and blue-grey one.

Nice! What are you running?
Mine is still chugging away running Fat Free Froyo. The 3 year contract is done in a month which is when I will lose my 1000min/month free long distance. Hopefully soon after that, the Samsung Galaxy S2 will be released in Canada. It will suck to have to start paying for data, but whatever I guess.
Wife and I are still on vogue with Bell. Running Fat Free Froyo, not sure which version. For a while I kept 12 since I thought it was the most stable (with 10-04-10 .25 kernel ), can't remember what I have now anymore. Looking for a better combo, because I want apps to SD, camera, and USB mount. Such a combo doesn't seem to exist.
i am still sticking with my vouge... for now
ME! I'm on fat free froyo as well, been waiting for another release of scoots 2.3, still have 5 month left on the contract
me. Using Super Froyo.
Bell prepaid. I cannot find any other plan better than mine: pay $11.3 every month, get unlimited data, unlimited msg (through Heywire), voicemail, CID, and still $7 remain can be used for prepaid voice call
My ex-wife and I are still on a family plan with two touches running fat free froyo. This phone is awesome! For the price for unlimited data I'm not planning to switch any time soon. (I even put up with the ex wife.. that's how good it is!!)
I'm on my 2nd HTC Touch. Currently I'm waiting for the digitizer to come in, the touch screen has become very sporadic. I'm using the Cyagenmod 7.0.2 build right now
me! im still running the vogue as hard as the day i got it
My digitizer just came in, can't wait to get it up this weekend. I've been off FourSquare for weeks and it's killing me!
I am still on my Vogue. The contract ended a few months ago. I just replaced the touch screen. The old one didn't response to touch anymore. Bell offered me a pretty good deal for about $40 (500MB+350min). I think I will switch when the new iPhone comes out.
Still have a Vogue, contract ended a month ago. Waiting for the Galaxy S II to come out on Bell (couple of weeks).
Been running the Incubus v16 rom lately.
My biggest problem is that my power button died. I used that vogue/android tool that lets you turn the phone on with any other button, but after the phone sleeps for a few minutes, there's no way to turn it back on, so I have to keep it plugged in all the time so I can turn it back on.... but that makes it overheat and lock up every once and a while.
Also, voice input doesn't work.
Sigh. I've never found a solution...
Gonna hate giving up the unlimited data when I upgrade though!
I'm still using the HTC touch as my main phone but I'm looking to upgrade the rom, I'm currently using the warm donut rom.
Kernel Version
2.6.32.9
Firmware version
1.6
I am!
I've got 3 batteries, my white phone that I use and two blue phones for parts when the white one finally bites the dust.
I've got 2 years left on the contract
My plan is to stick it out with this phone and when I finish college I'm going to buy myself a nice new phone. A good reward for finishing.
I'm still running NFSFAN's WM6.5 1.00 final ROM lol.
I've been out of the loop for a while (years) and I'd like to see what is new now that I have a been more time from work.
I notice everyone is using "Fat Free Froyo's" ROM these days. What are the advantages over NFSFAN's builds? I know it's been years since NFSFAN has updated his ROMs but they have served me well. I use it quite often up north at the cottage to tether on my laptop and the encryption seems to work just fine, never have been billed. Is that the case with the newer ROMS?
I've also purchased a 2000maH battery a while back. It makes the phone a clunker but the stock battery just wasn't cutting it.
I have been using my Desire as my main phone for some time now, I use my Vogue to tinker with.
NFSFAN 1.00 is your best bet, everything works, no lag, tethering works (and reverse passthrough) etc.
I've tested ALL of the Android offerings here, none are what I would call quick, not after running my desire which has zero lag. Because my Desire has sense I like to play with base builds here (fat free froyo, etc) but these are very slow compared to the desire, the desire on a base (non - sense) ROM just flies, it's depressing using Android on the Vogue.
Once again, NFSFAN's ROM and Vin's ROMs were the standard for me, excellent exchange support, good camera, everything worked and hardly any lag.
I am now a dedicated Android user, and I never plan to go back to microsoft.....BUT... on the Vogue you can't beat winmo, especially the final polished products NFSFAN or Vin released.
regards,
Bell's getting Samsung Galaxy S II on July 21st
I still had my vogue up to a couple of weeks ago (still have it but It's given up the ghost) wish it was still functional for testing anything out for people. For me Android managed to run fairly well given the specs of the phone with a bit of overclocking (think thats what eventually killed it however)

Any developer here need a Sanyo Zio?

So I upgraded my mother to an EVO 4G and she had the Sanyo Zio. If anyone that is developing for this device needs one that works perfectly just shoot me an offer for it. It will come with the box etc, cases, & cables. It is the SPRINT ZIO.
Thanks,
Michael
I've got a cricKet ZIO I need to move. Cheap. I bought a Moto Droid and flashed it to cricKet myself (I got 3G working, but my ROM doesn't support MMS). The package comes with the phone (which has a screen cover) and the drivers CD/box/manuals if needed. I can't exactly provide the data cable/wall charger because I bought my Droid without any cables. I'm giving XDA the chance to pick it up sooner and cheaper than the rest of the 'net, so shoot me an offer if you're interested.
EDIT: I sold it. Made a cool $60.

[Q] long term experience

What were your long term experiences with the phone (advantages, disadvantages, battery drain,...)?
Would you buy it again?
It depends. I got this phone because I was on a budget. If the $300 price point is out of reach to buy a prepaid phone (as is the case for me), then nothing beats this phone, especially with the amazing support available here! If I had the chance to spring for an S2, or N4 I would in a second, but I'm very happy with my $200 phone so far!
tl;dr Yes, for the price.
I have had this phone since it came out and sold at Walmart. That has been sometime back. Rooted and peachsunrise 1.2 installed in month 1. Since then I have bought the girlfriend one and did hers with CM9 and now I am on slimbean with sgk 1.55 and have never had a problem other than burning up a battery flashing Galaxy W overclock kernel. That's my fault not device. Girls is put to side as her upgrade Thu Verizon finally came around and she went sgs3 and has since had it in for warranty 2 times versus 0 for this phone. I love this phone and have an upgrade phone sgs2 but this is my daily phone still to date. Ease of use reliable and convenient sized as well as extremely resilient to damages using the d30 fitted case.:thumbup::thumbup:
