1.) Will we be able to root from Stock unrooted 5.7.xxx?
2.) If not, how do we maintain root prior to accepting the OTA, whenever it comes out?
3.) Is the change-log available anywhere?
Thanks in advance.

Currently, as said above, you must use Root Keeper from the market to preserve root. Just download it and make a backup now so that whenever the OTA eventually comes, you'll be ready. There is an updated kernel and baseband in the leaked 5.7.894 and the camera is better.

Thanks for the response. When you make a backup with Root Keeper, what do you do after accepting the new OTA when it's released? Simply restore the backup after accepting the OTA?

Yup! Open the app and hit restore root. I made a copy of the root backup file on my SD card in case the OTA were to wipe it. I could easily move it back onto the root of the phone and change the permissions and owner.

The only issues I've had with it are that if you create a Nand backup with su-backup (the root backup) on the root of the phone, that Nand will fail to restore. You can easily, from the app, remove su-backup boot into recovery and make the Nand, then reboot the phone and re-backup root. I hope this makes sense.

Just turned my phone on and it had a system update available to 5.5.893. I am forever rooted, and I didn't uninstall any bloat, also didn't update any leaked updates. Can I update and keep root, also can I just update or do I need to sbf back to bone stock? I have read all the posts on the leaked ota's but I want to be sure they didn't fix root in the official ota I just got. Thanks.
if you didn't install yet... can you use an app (like root explorer), to navigate to your /cache folder and grab the file FIRST?
Forever root "should" hold, and keep you rooted... BUT I haven't received the update to try it to confirm.

I didn't use cwm recovery. I use the stock recovery. Copy the OTA file from here:
http://www.multiupload.com/0ZEN69NGO2 to the root of your sd card. Power off your phone, then press and hold the volume up AND down buttons at the same time, then press the power on button. Let go and you the screen should be the android screen with an exclamation point inside a triangle. Press and release both the volume up and down buttons to get into stock recovery. Choose apply update from sd card, use the power button to select.

Is there a way to root now? I tried pete's root tool but it failed on step3.(adding su, superuser.apk, busybox)

Also, does it format user data?

Stock. And I do not believe it formats data - let me check.

OK, checked the updater-script file - no mention of /data anywhere, and it only mounts three partitions - /system /preinstall and /webtop.
I'm guessing that it does not - plus, I've not heard of anyone saying that it does, so....
i did't backup root using rootkeeper and just flashing 219 using rsd. then i found that the superuser is still there but the root(su) no longer working.... i have tried everything, wiping, unroot, root(droid4utility0.4)...nothing work, even the safetrap doesn't work... i really really need you help to get my root back. millions of thanks~~~~

Since late November of last year my N900A has been running stock OS (Android 4.3) but is rooted via RDLV and soon after did the OTA update to MJ5.
I would like to start experimenting with Xposed modules but I would like to make a complete backup of my device just in case something goes wrong. Since our bootloader is still locked and and we cannot install Clockworkmod Recovery or TeamWin Recovery Project, what are my other options?
Thank you in advance.

Here's a fast way to do a full factory restore so you can take an ota without erasing your internal storage.
This will not however remove the rooted message for a warrant claim.
Check MD5's before flashing.
Step 1: Flash Flash KK24a System Restore 1st.
Step 2: Flash KK24a Bootstack Restore 2nd.
Warning: You will loose your custom recovery after reboot.

Excellent, thank @MicroMod777. One more question; after I flash this, I'm unrooted, no custom recovery. If I root the 24a using ioroot25 (but not a custom recovery), will the root maintain through the updates to 27A? I recall reading somewhere on here that it did. Thanks for your work!!

Not really sure, but you can always use Stump Root on 27A. Can take up to 10 minutes for it to root through brute force:

Looks like they may have patched that in twrp recently.

First, why are you trying to unroot?
You would download a factory image form the Google developer page. Extract twice, and grab the system image from there. Yes, match the version your phone is currently on.

well, 2 months ago it was being called older.. anyways, the far majority of roms do not have root. you need to flash the supersu file shen flashing the roms, for root. but, to flash a rom, yoh need an unlocked bootloader and twrp recovery. most apps that check for root will still think that you have root though.

far as i have ever seen, its rare for a rom to not be rooted, however, more frequently devs have had it off by default, and its a treasure hunt to find where to turn it on.

yup I found that most are pre-rooted, though found cleancore that works great. I've just installed multirom and that booted into it then tested a couple of apps that are blocked on root (Banking app and Sky Go), and happy days they work great.
Its annoying and rather wasteful having have a second rom just to run a couple of apps but at least now I can use the apps on my device if I want to. Thanks
Typical apps block hacking (root) so the work around instead of unrooting is to go deeper with the hacks/mods
