I'm using the official flip cover for my note, and i thought it would be cool to use it like the ipad cover. What i mean is that it could lock and unlock by "opening" or "closing" the flip cover. I guess both light and proximity sensors should be used. I have tried some apps but none had the desired effect. Any ideas?

I was just thinking about this today.
Tried a few apps but for some reason the proimity sensor is not working well with the flip cover. The screen turns off with every thing else but not the flip cover.
Edit : this should have been in the Q& A section and not here.
Ok. after lots of testing found that with the flip case there is a problem.
If the flip is too close to the proximity sensor , the sensor for some reason thinks that there is nothing covering it. It could be beause the flip has an opening for the speaker.
Hence when flip is closed sensor apps dont work well.
I have tried many things too, i found out that the light sensor works much better than the proximity one with the flip cover

i have the offical HTC S550 slip case which completely covers the phone.
i would like an application that unlocks the phone when the proximity sensor does not detect the case and/or the light sensor senses an increase in light.
accelerometer support could be added for when the phone is held with the screen pointing your face (user calibrate-able) for people who do not have a front covering case.
im currently using no lock but i still have to press buttons to turn the screen on whereas my girlfriend who has an old blackberry just takes it out of its slip case and the screen lights up.
would be willing to donate money to whoever produces a free app to do this that is bug free and maintained.
Not easily done. Imagine if it is dark and also an app like that it would eat your battery as the prox sensor is continuously checking for light

I had software on my DHD wich showed me the power usage for the onboard devices. And the proximity sensor used the least power, it showed using 2~3mAh. So its not a big battery hog.
I will post later, if i rememeber the software

So my one has this annoying issue. Every time I rotate it into landscape it auto dims to around 50%. Anyone have any ideas it's really agitating me.

When you rotate your phone you might be covering the light sensor with your thumb or palm while holding it.trying setting screen brightness to a value instead of auto and check if the screen still gets dim. If yes it might be a hardware issue

is your thumb covering the light sensor when you rotate? (the two black dots in the top left corner in portrait mode)
sometimes even if covered for a split second it will cause a dim condition
Come on guys, give me a bit more credit than that lol. No I was not covering it. Oddly enough it's only doing it either in the car dock or just coming out of the car dock. Hasn't done it since then. Will retest it when i get off work.

Are you wearing Sunglasses in your car? With polarized sunglasses, the screen will look dimmed in landscape.

Running a Navigation program in Car Dock? it might have a setting for screen brightness even if it was running in the background.
Dimming Problem
Hi Guys,
Can you try my app for your dimming problem and let me know what you think ?
It's an easy to use application that allow you to manage your screen and can allow you to stop it from dimming. :good:
It can be configured for specific apps also. Please give me your feedback!

Using some other auto brightness apps might help.Stock one drains too much battery
Hi guys!
I tried 3 apps that can use your phone's gallery, browser, lockscreen and call accept like in s4 but none of these work.
Is there a problem my proximity sensor?
Or its another weak point at 4x?
What you get with these apps (air call accept and air swiper)? Are they work for you?

I tried both apps and both of them are not working for me unfortunately. Proximity sensor is working because when i answer a call and put the phone next to my ear the screen go black. So that means that proximity is only activated when you are talking wizh someone.

And are there any way to turn on proximity sensor?
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda premium
There isn't a problem with turning on, it's the lack of the sensor, it only supports two distance modes - sensor is covered ,sensor is free so you have to put your hand nearly touching the screen, so wave Is a big problem, it's not being detected most of the times, only by really slowly moving the finger across, I tried other apps with the prox control, and that's the result.

I'm trying to decide wether to wake Google now with the mic "saying ok google" the proximity sensor "waving in front of the screen" or the gyroscope/accelerometer "shaking the phone"
I want to know if anyone can tell me which sensor consumes less power both screen on and off.
Sent from my 831C using XDA Free mobile app
Shaking the phone seems like the worst idea, thing would go on and off in your pocket all the time. My best guess would be the microphone as the most efficient.

I'm looking for an app that would wake the screen when the proximity sensor is not detecting anything. I'm pretty much forced to use a flip cover and it covers the proximity sensor.

I think the app was called "gravity screen" however using it won't let the phone call into deep sleep.

I've used this one for a while: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danielkao.autoscreenonoff&hl=nl
Works pretty well.
