So I've been on ics for a while now and I love it. But one of the things I used a bit in the Samsung roms was allshare to watch movies or TV shows which are on my media center pc. I'm wondering what is the best way to go about doing this on the ics roms. I'd guess it would be a similar method to what you'd do on cm7. So does anyone have any suggestions?
And in also wondering what are the best video players to try for ics? I don't mind playing for a great featured player. Most of my stuff is in avi, mp4, mkv etc.
Just thought I'd ask.

The Allshare feature should work with all apps that support dlna, try some of them out on the market (keyword: DLNA).
For playing videos I can recommend MX Video. They have shortly released an ICS update. It's working flawlessly on my (soon to be)-CM9 Build 3.
Is there an app that is free w/ no ads?
If i backed up all my apps from ginger and restore allshare will it work?

Hi
I have the beta version of Froyo (FRF50) and I can't play the videos I record with the stock camera app on my PC.
I can play all the pre-Froyo videos, just not the new ones, except when recording with the "MMS profile"
Any ideas on how I can play them using FFDShow and Media Player Classic? (I don't want VLC or any other player.)
Thanks

vlc plays everything, transcodes, streams, AND plays the video just fine, but you don't want it. good luck !

I'm not running froyo, can you link an example video to debug?
PS are you running the 720p hack?

The funny part is that the "so perfect" VLC doesn't play the audio, just the video.

No, all stock.
But nevermind, I just made it work.
I activated the internal MP4/MOV filter from Media Player Classic. It's not ffdshow, but it works.
I guess the codec used by the High Quality profile is not completely compatible with ffdshow, since it made the decoder run, but the image was all black.
Thanks anyway
I just ran across ROCKPLAYER... for far it looks like an excellent movie player for the Samsung Epic 4g.... free version has some restrictions (but you can live with them).... paid version $9.99 removes the restrictions... am watching an avi movie now... sounds like it supports multiple formats... avi, mkv, etc.... just posting this for anyone who may be looking for a good movie player for their phone.
The stock player plays all those formats fine. Do you think there is a need for a player app?
Word,no need for another player,i tried a few and to me stock is the best.Maybe for wmv,rmb files and such rockplayer is usefull.Does stock play wmv?I havent tried it.Rockplyer is nice for phones that don't have native support.
Epic 4G natively supports a wide selection of codecs. Rockplayer uses its own for playback and doesn't run that well in a lot of situations. The stock player works perfectly for anything except MKVs, where it doesn't support subtitles. However, mVideoPlayer takes advantage of built-in codecs and supports subtitles flawlessly.
Stock player doesn't play flash video rock player I recommend this app its my favorite
i personally like act 1 the best.. ive tried mplayer and rockplayer.. they are all good.. i just stuck with act1

Yeah act one is next best to stock, stock got more stretching options and 5.1
mVideoPlayer and act1 destroy rockplayer hands down.

mVideoPlayer only plays movies that your phone supports natively. So if the Epic can play m4vs, mVideoPlayer can.
I am relatively new to android from a blackberry. I have a verizon galaxy tab and I have downloaded ttorrent in the market and when I download movies (so far I have tried avi and mp4 format) and try to view them they do not play with the media player and I do not get an error message it just goes to a black media player screen and doesnt play. I have tried implayer and arcmedia media players in the market and when I try to play the files it plays but with no sound and says I need to download coral player at real.coralplayer.com which apparently is a media player for a comp. Am I doing something wrong or does anyone have any advice on what media player to use. Or if anyone has any recommenda rt ions on apps that allow you to download movies and watch (preferably free). Thanks

Generally i dont encourage piracy so i will assume that you legally own these movies (read forum rules). Bottomline you cant watch this movie until you convert them into friendly format for the galaxy tab.
Follow this guide: http://www.thetechjournal.com/how-to/convert-and-watch-movies-on-samsung-galaxy-tabhow-to.xhtml
It should play just fine, no need off a other player, the stock one is as good and even better then the one's you find at market.
Just be shore that it not have DTS,DD audio, because Galaxy tab can't handle that audio.

Unless the Verizon one is crippled, those files should play just fine as the tab supports DivX, mp3, h264 and AAC among the other things. Could be an audio issue, but honestly i have trouble imagining an avi with an audio stream that's more than stereo. Then again, i've seen some of the weirdest stuff, like an h264 video inside an avi...

I used this workflow to convert some of the Blu-ray rips we have on our HTPC, as well as converting a few SD movies, worked perfectly for my tab. Movies play in stock apps.

From a quick Google, if you are being asked to download CoralPlayer, then the movies you are downloading are not actually usable, and you are being scammed.
What application allows us to download paid movies similar to iTunes? I have an iPad but prefer to use my Tab for watching flicks instead?
Thanks for the info. After further te st ting the only movies that seem to play for me.so far are mp4 movies. I have been using t torrent to dl movies. Anyone else have any other recommended apps through market.

Try installing mvideoplayer and vitalplayer. Those two should play everything else.
T-Mobile tab running latest Overcome
I installed summer player and it played everything for me even rmvb format.

Dude you were so right...this is by far the best player out there right now! Thanks for the tip!
mobo player is very nice...one fantastic feature is that is sizes the video to the full screen. I was watching avatar on my train ride and the stock video player had it centered and not full screen....finished watching it wtih mobo!
thanks for the tip.
check diceplayer on market (GB required )
you can play 1080p MKV+DTS(or Flac/Ogg)

Here are top 5 Android movie APPs for movie lovers. You can use some of these APP to download or watch movies on Galaxy tab conveniently: " Netflix (free, streaming: US only)", "IMDb Movies & TV (free)", "VLC Direct Pro ($2.86)", "Movie Collection (free, ad-less version for $2.99)" and "GetGlue (free)". In addition, you also can rip DVD TO GALAXY TAB, but you need to consider the issue of legality. Good Luck !
Mobo player is great.
It now has support for subtitles within MKV containers without having to extract them. subtitles are great for foreign movies or for the hearing impaired and anime.
It also supports selecting audio track from within the container file. ie, Eng, JP audio track selection. I see a bright future for this app.

I use stock player...
hi
First of all i want to say that i don't wana to use players like bsplayer, dice player or mx player.
I want to watch a movie in built-in player or m video player.
The thing is that these movies are working good on stock 2.2.1.
And one time is working for me on 2.3.6 (but i forgot on what rom and now i can't find it)
Maby some one know what to do to watch that type of movies.
MX player play this only in Sw mode.
One developer say's that this is maby kernel feature.
I think this could be some video drivers.
I recall that GamerzRom was able to play 720p mkv very well, but not with a stock player, it was with Moboplayer rather.
I don't think any stock player will be able to play 720p mkvs, due to the lack of hardware decoding support without proper codecs (Samsung does slap in quite a few already, but unfortunately not for MKV IIRC, presumably due to it possibly sucking too much RAM).
I guess your best bet would be to try that ROM with a 3rd party player like MoboPlayer, Dice player or MX player.
ok, i like the rom , video speed is little better but it still lagging and played in software mode
look at the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dz-mh1RzmpA
It works just fine for me. On ICS CM9 with mx player. Very smooth and clear!

maby more info?
becouse i don't think that .mkv is playing smoothly for u.
Try this: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=322020
Diceplayer
i'm using devil kernel with XL memory and without any problems. 720p videos work perfectly with Video player and Diceplayer.
So try and see if devil kernel helps you out too.
Good Luck
for me on CM9+devil's kernel 720p movies runs smooth without any problems, I'm using MXplayer.
slim ics + devil3 +mx player or dice player and video playback (.mkv, anime) is terrible.

Hi all!
I already have a DLNA compatible Philips TV and I run 2 differnen DLNA server apps on my Win 7 PC, Windows Media Player 12 and TVersity. That way I can browse and play almost all my movies on my PC from the TV interface.
Now I just got my first Galaxy S.
Used, with stock Android 2.2. First thing, I rooted it and prepare to install CM 10.1.
But before removing stock I want to learn how DLNA works on the phone.
I took some photos and videos that I want to stream to the TV.
The stock AllShare would sometimes display my TV as selectable target, sometimes not.
When I could select the TV I could always stream photos to the TV but only sometimes videos.
The same happened with Skifta.
I will also test some other DLNA players such as MediaHouse, iMediaShare, Beam, BubbleUp.
But so far my results seem unpredicatable and unreliable.
I searched the web and XDA but found very little.
Can somebody share their experiences of streaming media from Galaxy S ot a TV?
Working configurations?
Would somebody have an install apk to AllShare?
The Samsung support pages recommend installing their AllShare server software. Is that important? MWP and Tversity should be compatible, or maybe not?

AFAIK AllShare isnt supported by CyanogenMod... AllShare works only on Stock Gingerbread Roms with the standard framework.
You have to use apps like imediashare or something. The Streaming works very well with stock... The only problems are the free apps which are provided in the market in my opinion. the most of them have a really annoying UI but it works. music, photos are working fine. for videos i cant say anything since i didnt try to stream movies.
