[SOLVED] No data after CM7 - Motorola Droid 3

For some reason, whenever I flash CM7 I lose all network connections. Anytime I flash this ROM I get the little blinking triangle in the statusbar. I can't go through the Google sign in because I have no network connection. Here is my method for how I installed:
Enabled Safe System
Formatted /system
Flashed CM7, flashed gapps
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Reboot
Everything goes smooth until my phone starts up and shows that stupid little icon. Then I'm pretty much stuck and can't do anything except restore my backup. Any suggestions anyone?

It doesnt go to activation for *228?

It does but it didn't help any. Reactivated the phone, then did option 2 to update roaming capabilities and it still didn't help.

turn on data roaming. And you wiped after flashing? I haven't used safestrap, but try wiping then flashing. 228, option 1 and 2, enable data roaming

Both data roaming options are selected. Still nothing after reboot. Can't do *228 do to no signal/data/service.
Wiping first, then installing now.
EDIT: Still nothing. I made a backup but still.....I really want CM7 instead.

Here is a dumb idea but do you have Wi-Fi you can access to set it up? Does hitting all four corners bypass setup?

I was at work but now being at home I can connect it to Wifi to get through the setup but that's where things get even more weird lol. I get through setup and everything and the ROM boots up perfect except of course for not having any service. The blinking triangle is still there, but I can make and receive calls. Can't download anything market and can't bring up anything on the browser unless I stay on Wifi. I can't always be connected to Wifi though. I think I'm just going to SBF back to stock, then try to install this thing. If that doesn't work then I'm just going to give up lol. I've been going at this for 20 hours straight and can't figure it out, maybe it just wasn't meant to be lol.

Double check your SIM card? For some reason CM7 is very picky right now about the SIM being installed.

No SIM card installed. I've tried *228 to activate and it said it worked. Then did *228 to update roaming capabilities which said it worked too. Still get the triangle and no data though. I just did a SBF back to stock 5.6.890 (XT862) and am going to try to install again. Will post again with an update.
Ok. I redownloaded CM7 to make sure it wasn't a bad download.
SBF back to stock 5.6.890
Re rooted and reinstalled safestrap 1.0
Rebooted and pressed menu button to get into recovery
Enabled safeboot
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
flashed CM7
flashed patch
flashed gapps
Reboot ---> Same results. WTF is going on with this phone????
I also tried all the steps above with the exception of flashing the patch files and I still got the same results.
Maybe this will help. This is what I see after I flash everything and reboot, in the About Phone>Status menu:
My Phone Number: Unknown
MIN: Unknown
PRL Version: Unknown
MEID: XXXXXXXXXXXX
Network: Unknown
Signal Strength: -95 dBm 0asu
Mobile Network type: CDMA - EvDo rev.A
Service State: In service
Roaming: Not Roaming

Going to do the *228 now and see if anything changes.
After *228, then *228 option 2:

Network: Unknown <------ Still says Unknown
Signal Strength: -94 dBm 0asu

After doing *228, it did say that it could take up to 15 minutes so I guess it's just a waiting game now but I seriously doubt it will change.

Well that definitely explains it. I wish that was pointed out in the OP. I bought this phone from Verizon but was told I didn't need the SIM card since I wasn't going to use the global services.

Boot up go into dev tools and select bad behavior, crash system server it will reboot phone and you will have 3g.I know because I done this lol..it doesn't stick though so every time you reboot you will have to do this.. It's what I had to do until I got a Sim card....

I don't have a SIM card.
EDIT:
I edited my post title and added a [SOLVED] tag. For anyone that reads this and is having the same issue, you MUST have a SIM card installed for CM7 or you will never have a data connection.

You will have 3g if you crash the system server through dev tools...it may be annoying every boot up but if you want cm7 bad enough it's worth it. I done it until I got a Sim card.

[Q] No Signal/Network after Flashing a new rom

Hi guys,
So I had this problem before, but the Captivate magically fixed itself. This time... not so much. Or not yet anyway.
Upon boot I get a "No network" symbol. Sometimes it shows the bars on boot, but quickly reverts to the no network status. I just flashed the newest version of Cognition with the accompanying kernal. I have bounced around through various roms and kernals all night, but the problem seems to carry over (even after wiping the data/cache/return to blah blah).
Any ideas?
Try some other modem......

Crispy1805,
Try going to Access Point Names and tap menu then Reset to default. Once it populates at the top of ur screen, tap the dot, it will turn green and u should be good to go.
Menu/ Settings/ Wireless and network/ Mobile networks/ Access point names/ then menu/ "Reset to default" then tap the dot selector. Reboot should not be needed.

Apn are for data right, is this anyway related to connectivity to the network.
Yes, you need to be accessing at&t's access point to connect to it's network...
Hm, tried that, no avail. The problem is that it is not detecting any "bars" at all. I removed the sim, same problem. My Infuse is showing bars in the same location, so its not a network problem.
Did you make a backup of your efs folder you can restore?
Good point, let me check and try that if I can find it.
gah, I cant find it.
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15158920 ... Use the 3 file version. It is kf1 stock, but the kf1 came with a seperate CSC .tar file and the kf1 is a full wipe... Worth a shot. But u need to already have the i897 bootloaders.
If this works, then u can move on to kh3 or whatever u r wanting to go to...

I flashed back to stock (enclair---odin 1 click and master clear), but it is still not showing any network /bars. I tried this --
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881162
but all of the values were already correct. When I check for an IMEI it says "not registered on the network" --- but it can't SEE the network as far as I can tell, so that makes sense. Perhaps the network card isn't coming on at boot?
Any more ideas?
This had happened to me recently, Some how 1 of my captivate lost the original imei and had the generic one 0000461090000, When u chek under the status it shows the details but no connectivity. I restored the imei and all ok.
Mine has its generic IMEI. It was sim locked for some reason, but I fixed that--- still no signal , just the blue circle with the bar through it. Under status:
Network -- Unknown
Signal Strength -- 0 dBm 0 asu
Mobile network type -- GRPS
Service State -- Out of Service
Roaming -- Not Roaming
Mobile network state -- Disconnected
Again, the Infuse right beside it is picking up signal (2 bars of "4G" i.e. 3.5G)
Update: Flashed to 2.3
Now the signal strength -- -111dBm 1asu
The rest is still the same :-\
Generic imei does not works in India we cannot register without a proper imei but it works in US members here have confirmed this. Check your lock status with *#7465625# what it says.

Just out of curiosity...If I make a backup of my efs folder now while running the FASTY II (KH3 i897 ROM) then flash say, Rom EPIC (JVS I9000 ROM) and end up having no network (This actually happened) will I be able to successfully restore the efs folder without having any problems?
Yes you can restore it.
Do you think its an EFS folder problem? I am clueless at this point.
Code:
You have a generic imei and it is quite possible the problem is coz of that.

No, I do not have a generic IMEI.

Pleaseeeee help with no service issue!! Driving me crazy now!

Hi All.
I'm trying to get my friends phone to work. he got given it as a gift from a family member who upgraded, this was about 3 weeks ago and i havent been able to get it to work. the phone is unlocked, and now rooted with Dark Nights 4.0.4... it did have gingerbread 2.3.5 on... but regardless of the rom this handset has had this problem ever since.
The problem:
When we first put his sim card in, he popped up with signal and a carrier name, then changed to emergency calls only. But the signal bar was still full! So thinking it was software related i gave the phone a factory reset, no fix. So i then rooted the handset and put a custom rom on, the same rom that i use on my i9000. Darkys Rom 4.0.4. Still no fix, this is very wierd, tried lots of sims in this phone now and does excactly the same with each one, and we know these sim cards work because there our own.
We have tried with 3, T-Mobile, Orange, o2 and Vodafone. Excactly the same happens all the time, carrier name pops up for about 2 seconds then goes to emergency calls only. but signal bar still full.

Yeah thats displayed correctly.
Hmmm, have you tried factory reset? If so, might have to reflash back to stock rom, that should get radio working (unless imei is barred somehow)
If you have a backup of your efs folder, try restoring it (after backing up current efs folder)

[Q] Unlock and Radio Issue, Please Help

I am deployed to Afghanistan right now. I ordered a brand new XT862, rooted it, and installed safestrap 2.10 and cm-9-20120815-UNOFFICIAL-solana.zip. That worked beautifully.
Unfortunately I am having problems getting the radio to work. I would set an APN but then sometimes it would just not appear in the list. I would set it again and again, then sometimes all of the APNs would appear in my list until the radio failed. After flashing, formatting, and reflashing several times and having the default Verizion access points finally pop up out of nowhere in my APN list, I realized I never "unlocked" the phone. I am using a Roshan SIM.
The weird part is the radio would work for a period of time. First for several hours, then it would start failing more and more frequently.
I found the XT862-5.7.906-SAFE and flashed it, hoping it would ask me for an unlock code upon booting, but no dice. It just went into "Global" mode. I am testing right now to see if the radio stays stable.
So, I am wondering if these instructions:
Guide - Unlock XT862 for T-mobile/ATT
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406812
will get me to the unlock code screen, and once unlocked, will my radio problem disappear when I reflash CM9? My Internet connection is painfully slow here in Afghanistan so I only want to download what I know will work.
I do have a second XT862 that I had unlocked, then rooted and flashed CM9 to and it is working very well on Roshan out here.
Thanks for your help!
While running the XT862-5.7.906-SAFE, the radio cut out and I got a BP paniced message. I couldn't remember all of it before it crashed completely, but it asked to connect the USB for debugging. While the screen was flickering, a window popped up asking if I wanted to switch to GSM.
The radio doesn't seem to be stable even with this firmware.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
The radio cut out again, so I tried switching it from global to CDMA and then to GSM to see if I could get it to reset.
It told me there were no GSM networks available, and then asked to switch to Global.
I hit ok, then it told me that the SIM was invalid...
I'm a noob to this phone stuff, but this just seems crazy.
It seems it's definately the phone, because I swapped the SIMs in my two phones and the problems persist with the new one. My functioning phone continues to work fine on the chip designated for the problem phone.

No, I haven't yet because I didn't know if that was going to solve my problem or not. Downloading is a challenge for me right now, too.
I don't know if not unlocking the phone before flashing CM9 caused the problem or if it's something else entirely that I am missing. I will want to have the phone usable in the states again. Will flashing the 883 radio give me any difficulties there?
I've went back though the steps that I did on my other, working phone and [edit] not unlocking is [/edit] pretty much the only difference.
I'm probably going to try to download the 883 radio stuff tonight when I get home from work and give it a try.

Unlocking the phone MUST be done on stock firmware. The XT883 radio is only required for using US GSM networks, such as AT&T and T-Mobile. The stock XT862 radio (after unlock) supports foreign SIM cards (and of course Verizon's Vodafone SIM).
As I recall, CM9/10 normally has issues with the GSM radio, if you need your phone, I suggest flashing a ROM based on a stock GB system, such as Maverick (4.0 version, 4.5 has a battery drain issue with an overclock script) which is based on 906. I tend to keep the phone on GSM/UMTS mode, as "Global" also turns on the CDMA radio, which utilizes more battery. The APN only matters for Data/MMS without the proper APN, you should still get talk/text/signal (no EDGE or 3G icons, which indicate data connection).

I didn't update the radio on my working phone to 883. It has been doing just fine on Roshan Afghanistan and AIS in Thailand. In the states I use Verizon, so I don't think GSM is a biggie.
So, I have to get back to stock and unlock, then go through the hack process again. I figured I probably did. So before I try to download this file, do you think the 1-click SBF here:
[xt862] .906 1-click-sbf.exe + tools [10-8-2012]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686911
will do the job? If not, do you know what will? I'm still running XT862-5.7.906-SAFE. I do have Blur_Version.5.6.890.XT862.Verizon.en.US.zip but I don't know how to install it. I'm still learning all of this stuff. Would RSDLite do it?
I wasn't very specific when I talked about the radio, sorry. More or less the voice connection would stop along with the data. It was just weird that sometimes the APNs would show up in the list and sometimes they wouldn't. When they did, it showed multiple from when I tried entering them several times. I don't know why it would write the changes but not read the list.
When about five Verizon APNs showed up and none of my Afghan APNs showed up, I realized I must have needed to unlock the phone. When I hacked it I just assumed it wouldn't have to be unlocked. I figured I WAS unlocking it. LOL!
Thanks everyone for your help.

If you were on the 906 OTA, the one click EXE would work, no programs required. Connect phone in bootloader > run the exe > The phone will flash. In Global mode, when you check the APNs, only the Verizon ones will show, you MUST be in GSM/UMTS mode for your own APNs to show up. Also, if it's occasionally in and out, I wonder if the connection between the SIM and phone are bad, like a shake or movement will break the contact. (Which when a SIM is not present, only the Verizon APNs will show as well and would prompt for global mode)
Try taking the SIM out, cleaning the contacts, and placing it back in. If the sim seems loose, try slipping a single thin piece of paper behind it to make sure it's getting full contact. Otherwise, it might be a hardware fault.

I'm currently running the SAFE version found here:
XT862 5.7.906 Update FXZ DST
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554916
It doesn't say that it's an OTA. I'm still running safestrap 2.10 with it. That's why I was curious if that might work. I also have that full BLUR download already. I tried installing it using safestrap, but that didn't work. I'm assuming because it's not supposed to. If I can get that installed and it works I'd be happy. I have to remote into my server at home, download there, and then FTP over here at like 6k/sec. Am I correct in assuming I'd install that full BLUR image with RSDLite?
I haven't had any issues with the SIM from the bad phone in my good phone, and everything feels tight when I put the SIM in. I've tried cleaning the contacts a bit. I haven't tried putting something in there to hold it tighter yet, though.

It doesn't say that it's an OTA. I'm still running safestrap 2.10 with it. That's why I was curious if that might work. I also have that full BLUR download already. The Droid 3 does not require RSDLite, as it has fastboot. Which is able to flash certain parts alone instead of the whole system (or the whole thing together) it's easier than RSDLite and can make modifications without losing everything. That's how the XT883 radio is flashed without modifying the system.
The one click method would fully flash it as if you used an SBF in RSDLite. If you have safestrap enabled on safe; make a full backup with recovery, then disable safe-mode. You'll then reboot into your stock system, unlock there, then enable the safe boot again, restore your backup.
SIM unlocking is for good, no amount of flashing, updating, etc will revert it. If the phone DOES get service with the sim, then it's already unlocked.. if it's occasionally cutting out, that's a different issue.

Holy shinto! I didn't know it saved that! I figured it was gone!
So I disabled safestrap, then it kept telling me com.android.phone had stopped. I'd force close and it would say it again. I went back into safestrap, did a factory wipe, rebooted and now it is connected in "Global" mode again on the stock 5.6.890.XT862.Verizon.en.US. It was looking good for a while, until the phone just rebooted itself.
I put my other SIM in the phone, booted back up and it worked for a while until the signal dropped and the phone gave me an invalid SIM error again. So, it's given me an invalid SIM on two different SIMs now in stock and flashed ROMs.
The SIM is in there tight. I couldn't get a piece of paper in there. I cleaned the contacts again, but they don't look dirty at all.
I put the original SIM back in there, it booted up, never got signal, and rebooted itself again. It doesn't have signal now, and I assume it's just about to reboot itself again.
You think I got a bum phone? I didn't test it at all before I started hacking it.
Also, if I do the *#*#4636#*#* while it has no signal it tells me my IMEI number is unknown, if that helps. If press the turn off radio button, it does nothing.
[edit]It also tells me pretty much everything (MEID, IMEI SV, SIM ID, ect...) is unknown if I go into About Phone>Status[/edit]

That happens if either; Airplane mode is on, or you have an incorrect build.prop, have you modified it in any way? Also have you tried making a backup and turning safe boot off?
Also; If the zips are still on your SDCard, try reflashing your rom to make sure you have the correct build.prop.

I have safestrap turned off and it appears I am running on stock? It says I am running 5.7.890 and not 5.7.906. There is a Superuser icon in the all apps, but I think that is from where I rooted it.
I rebooted and all the numbers came back... for now.
I don't have airplane mode on. I tried to turn it on after reading your post. It caused the phone to reboot. Once rebooted, it came back up in airplane mode. I turned it off and it is connected again, for now.
I haven't messed with the build.prop that I know of. I only rooted, installed CM9 several times, formatted everything several times in-between those installs, and most recently flashed that XT862-5.7.906-SAFE.zip.
And before I even finished this post it rebooted itself on me again...

Alright, did you put the sim in and get the unlock screen to put in the unlock code? 890 is alright to be on, that's what my stock system is. I would suggest staying away from CM9/CM10 as they are unstable when using GSM networks. Either stay stock or flash a ROM based on Blur (I suggest MavRom 4.0).

It never asked me for an unlock. It just immediately put the phone in world mode.
I literally did this with the phone.
1. open factory sealed box
2. root the phone
3. install safestrap
4. format all partitions
5. install CM9
6. install SIM
7. repeat 4 and 5 serveral times
8. install 5.7.906 hoping to get an unlock screen in order to possibly fix radio issue
9. start this thread.
Now, I did steps 4 and 5 over and over again over about 2 weeks off and on while I tried to figure out what was going wrong. Like I said, I am running CM9 very successfully here since August on a different XT862 that I did unlock before rooting. I installed a KANG build, not a KEXEC.
The amount of times your device seems to be rebooting makes me think there is something wrong with it.

Hm... while in unsafe (stock) the unlock screen should have come up. It will not on other roms, as for global mode, that is a default setting, without unlock, will only work with the verizon vodafone sim that came with the phone. Reboots can be either hardware, rom, or app problem. You can try a factory wipe and see if that helps the reboots. Trying to find solutions without you having to download more.

OK I have just installed a solution just don't know how good this ROM is but I just installed flashed Modaco rom and know all working with my 3g
You probably just had to flash a radio to it using fastboot.

radio ????
Radio aka baseband aka modem, without it your phone will not get signal.
Just check for it in the Settings -> About tablet, under Baseband version. If it said unknown, then none is installed. If its there and you still don't get and signal, maybe something is wrong with the rom you are using. In anycase try following the guide to factory reset your device using fastboot.

Gsm unlock emergency calls only!

My bootloader is unlocked with H-Boot 1.56, I'm S-off, rooted and TWRP recovery. I'm on the 6th rom I've flashed (Tried CM 11 Nightly, CM 10 Snapshot, Stock Deodexed rooted 4.1.2 and 4.4.2, MIUI, Viper Rom) and I've been working on this device for about 48 hours non-stop. I am NEED of assistance if ANYONE can offer it.
Does this sim unlock also work for phones that are currently registered on Sprints network? Like the account is still active? I've got a Sprint HTC one I've performed the Sim Unlock attempting to use my T-Mobile sim, but it says "Emergency Calls Only," and "Searching for network/No Service" I've got a red X where the signal bars are. Of course No text, no voice and no data. I've gone into the *#*#4636#*#* service menu and changed the settings to WCDMA, but NO dice. Yes, I went to mobile settings, searched for service and nothing appears, just a blank screen! The phone does recognize my Sim card and even shows my cell number and IMEI, UICC as well. I've even attempted to change RUIM settings in DFSCDMA Tool but that does very little. I have changed the radio around about 5 different times, currently using 3.04.651.2 with NO fix. I have searched high and low on these forums and haven't found anyone that can help me.

Try the third method, it should work. By the way if you want to bypass hands free activation, rename HTCSetupWizard.apk to HTCSetupWizard.bak

I got it working!! I flashed Badboys rom with .0315 radio!!! This is like a pretty freaking awesome deal!
Thanks for your help with the setup wizard, I'll do that right now. Did you do that with Ultimate Backup app? Or navigation through
ES File explorer? Thanks again!

Only do this if you're unable to get past the setup wizard.
1. Boot into twrp
2. Wipe dalvik cache
3. Mount system
4. Go to the file manager in advanced
5. Go to system/app
6. The file should be there, rename it.
7. After that unmount system, wipe dalvik again and reboot, and you should be good.
