[Q] Critical Error 1337 510B - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

So I recently acquired a moto milestone and I am trying to root it. I was following the instructions posted in the dev forum but I don't have privileges to post there with my issues so I am asking here. When I try to flash the vulnerable recovery image I get Critical Error: 1337 510B and nothing happens. The phone is still completely useable. What is the issue here?

Try shorten the file name like a.sbf and try again.

No dice on the renaming. Is there any information I could provide?

Could it be my bootloader? It says it is 2C.6C when I go into the bootloader menu.

Show us a picture!!

Okay, here they are: The phone before flash, the phone after the failure and the screen cap of RSDLite after the failure. Let me know if this helps at all.

the file sbf may be not right。
check it and reDownload it ?

4 times on two different computers. I tried flashing different sbf files like the stock 2.1 and 2.2 roms I have found.

You don't have Motorola Milestone A853 (gsm/umts), but A854 or A855 (cdma), therefore you should follow Droid guides, not Milestone guides.

Wow. Thanks. Is this written somewhere that I was too blind to find?

How to root ERROR

Hi my names Steve Ive been trying to root my phone but everytime i try to download the update.zip file it always says error and it cant/wont do it. Please help.
I have a Moto Droid 1 with the 2.1 update 1 software
do i have to downgrade to 2.0? if so can someone help with that?
thank you
There are many tutorials to explain how to root. If your on 2.1 yes you have to downgrade to 2.0.1. I had to and I got mine a couple months ago. First go to Motorola android development forum of xda and find " guide to root Droid manually." It explains how to root and has links for what you need to download to do so. You can also search Motorola Droid rooting tutorial online. There's videos on YouTube also other sites such as alldroid, droidforums, and unlockr have tutorials. I recommend watching the video on YouTube before rooting because there is one thing the tutorial doesn't explain.
While flashing or running the update or downgrade process it may say failure in the rsd lite window. When this happened to me I freaked but in the video it says to just click the line where it says failed to flash. It then disables the USB connection and completes the process on the phone after that you reboot and you are now on 2.0.1. This is of course you follow the tutorial by word.
From that point I recommend getting rom manager from market to flash the recovery and to begin installing custom roms but you can always download them from the web. Again alldroid and Droidforums have good up to date lists and links for the roms. Good luck and any questions you can pm me.

[Q] [Help]Can't Get into Open Recovery screen after using 2.2.1 Brasil-Retail

Hi, I'm having a lot of trouble getting open recovery to work on my milestone after flashing the brasil 2.2.1 retail rom.
The bootloader is the same 90.78.
Here's what I did.
I flashed a brasil 2.1 retail rom on my milestone and then used the motorola update tool to get it to 2.2.1.
After a few problems with the retail 2.2 (mostly the screen gets blank for a long time if a call is not anwsered.) i decided to go back to the shadowmod rom which I'm used to.
So, I downgraded back to the 2.1 retail rom, and then flashed the openrecovery found here code.google.com/p/shadowmodbr/downloads/list (MILESTONE_BASE_2.2.1.zip)
Used the open recovery listed there (used to work fine), placed the OR folder and update.zip on the SD card... and after everything was ready, I went to the recovery screen (holding "x" and the camera button) when I got to the Triangle+exclamation mark screen, I pressed VOL UP + Camera Button and NOTHING HAPPENED!
I tried the whole process again with the same result.
I found other VRs here on xda dev foruns, downloaded one specific for the 90.78 bootloader, about 3mb in size (the one on Shadowmod's site is 18mb big) but I can't flash it. RSD lite greyed out the start button once I select this file.
So I'm stuck, I can't get OR working, can't flash any custom roms, and I'm stuck with this problematic official rom =/
Anyone have any Idea about what can I do to get or working?
Do you get any errors in bootloader mode? If no, try flashing GOT 2.2.1 sbf file. Its got vulnerable recovery injected.
If rsdlite doesn't highlight the start button, try renaming the sbf file to something smaller.

No, no, absolutely no error flashing..
As I said, before migrating to the oficial retail 2.2.1, the process I wrote about worked flawlessly.
Can you please provide a link to this GOT 2.2.1 rom you mentioned?
Thanks in advance.

Select anyone. Then flash CM or whatever you want over it using AOR. Don't forget to wipe all.
And if you need to flash only the VR in future, only use this.
You guys might think I'm joking, but I tried flashing every one of the GOT roms (flash went OK, no errors), the vulnerable recovery sleshn posted (RAMDLD90_78.zip, no errors flashing too), and I'm still not having any success getting into the OR.
I sent my milestone to motorola two weeks ago, could it be that they modified something on it to block this exploit?
The bootloader still says version 90.78, but I can't get into the recovery screen at all, isn't there another command besides Vol Up + camera btn to acess the OR?
I'm about to give up =[
I think Joe aka Zeppelinrox has created a script to get you into OR menu automatically. You can pm him. I will post the link here if i find it. I think it is in a thread called handy dandy fixes.

Wow, thanks for the tip, this thread has some useful information.
I'll try that later, as I need to rest a bit, I've been writing my final paper for graduation at my universit for 5 hours straight now...
I'll post the results once I try it.
YAY ! IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, I so relieved now, let me hack this phone apart now.
THANK YOU GUYS !
Of course it works
I mean, I'm glad it worked for you lol
Glad it works
So what are you planning on doing to "hack this phone"?
actually, i dissembled the whole thing today, after I found out that motorola shiped it back with the camera button mounted backwards.. When I pressed it, is started the camera but wasn't really working.. after placing the button in place like it should be, now the open recovery works again by pressing the vol up camera and the camera button, as it should have...
I lost my warranty, but a was about to lose it this month anyway... I'm just glad everything works as it shoud now.
Motorola mis-mounted their own camera button? Sounds like some awesome support haha.

I'm having the same problem but unfortunately it appears the fix requires android to be functioning on the device....Is there any other way? I'm sitting at the triangle with exclamation mark and OR just doesn't want to open! My bootloader is .74 so it should be the CAM+VOL but it doesn't work!
Thanks

Need help going back to stock

I have a bionic that i system updated to 5.9.902 a couple days after i got it. Then i made the mistake of coming here and messing up my phone because i have no idea what I'm doing
I installed safestrap and did the whole noob step by step guide. Installed eclipse and a couple other roms. For some reason i wiped my internal and external storage. I have no backups of anything.
I've tried releasedroot, petes, rds lite with the 902 xml. I got stuck all the time with what seemed to be a driver issue.
I just want to return this thing to stock and stop messing with it
As of now when I press power i go straight to ap fast boot flash failure screen. I press power to power off and hold vol up and down to boot into recovery but just pick the normal boot option. Phone then boots into what seems to be my stock 902. I dont know if im rooted anymore.
If i could rid my phone of this flash failure and safestrap, i would be stupid happy
Anyone out there willing to help a total noob? If any more info is needed I'd be happy to provide

What error did you receive using rsdlite?
When you go into your phone settings..can you verify your on 902?
I'm at work now but it was some sort of usb failure. It got stuck on 1/22 mbm something.
Yes as of right now im on 902.
Is there a tutorial on how to completely remove usb drivers? Even though rsdlite says I'm connected, I don't see my phone drivers in device manager. That's where I think I'm going wrong but not really sure.

[Q] Bricked?

I was attempting to work through applying the .218 update to my droid 4. It was giving me a system validation error while when it was running in recovery. I found a thread that stated I needed to replace the apks and odex's as well as the build.prop. I didn't read it carefully enough as it said to replace *THE* problem ones. My validation error was on the build.prop file, I think.
In any case, I was using root explorer to copy *ALL* the files from a base zip file's app folder into the /system/app folder. Things were going along fine, until the phone app forced closed, then the phone rebooted.
Now I'm boot looping.
What can I do? I don't have any safe straps.
Can't access safestrap? Stock recovery? Adb services?

thanks for the reply...
I don't have safestrap installed on the device, and I've never used it. I don't think that's an option, unless you have something up your sleeve there
As for Stock recovery, I'd love to give it a try, but I don't know how that would work. I can't get to ADB because I can't boot the phone.
I *CAN* get into the bootloader. From there, I can get into recovery, AP Fastboot, BP SBF Flash BP boot... and others.
So, I'm hoping there's some kind of way to push to the device from one of the boot loader options. I've had a Droid 1, and a number of other android devices, but I've never gotten this far into a hole before.
again... thanks for whatever you got
It doesn't look good my friend, not without a SBF to flash. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head would be to try flashing the update again and cross your fingers that you got things in place before the bootloop. However I'm 99.9% sure that won't work. If I find anything else I'll let you now, but at this point you might be a sitting duck.

I have the update on the SD Card, and nope, flashing it results in the same system validation error, and a bootloop.
thanks. Do you think that flashing the RAZR sbf's would get me a booting device? I only got the thing 14 days ago. Maybe I can exchange it

If you're still in the 14 day return window I would try to return it. If it can't get past the bootloader than they won't know you rooted it. Just tell them you tried to do the update and it bootlooped. That's probably you're safest bet.

I'm heading down there in a few minutes. Thanks for the help all ! I think I'm getting the razr maxx. My wife has one and the screen on that thing is incredible. I think it's worth losing the keyboard to get that screen... and the battery life. That part is also incredible.
again.. thanks.
BTW, you guys absolutely rock. You've helped me out of some serious holes with my OG Droid and other devices more often than I can count.

You can use bp tools to push over a clean system. I believe theres a tutorial somewhere that written for bionic. Just replace that with the droid 4 system. I would extract it from one of the stock roms available and push it thru bp tools.

It sounds like OP is going to exchange their phone, but could you really just replace the entire /system folder and have it work? (Nothing special with permissions, etc?)
If so, that is definitely something worth knowing...
Yes i believe so.

Bootloop after ICS nono!

So I tried to flash the 229 while still on 2233 but of course it didn't work. I then tried to flash the 902 using the pathsaver and and stuck in bootloop. I can access recovery though and other flashing tools. All I have access to is my laptop running Ubuntu because I'm 1000 miles from home. Any help here?
Your best bet is going to be flashing back to 902 using your cmd prompt and flashing each item one by one. I had to do that while i was out training in the middle of nowhere. It takes a little longer, but works. There also use to be a tool for linux/mac sort of like rsd but all the links i found when i was training were dead links, hence why i flashed each item seperatly.

here's a link you can try

i usually use windows but this link have linux/mac version too
good luck
Those are both great links, thats where i found most of my info for recovering mine when i bricked it. I lost everything on mine. I only had fastboot... lol. I ended up actually taking a little info from multiple topics then pieced it all together and managed to accomplish what i needed. There wasnt any specific topic that worked 100% for me, not to mention all the dead links i ran into for almost everything i needed to do it within linux/OSX/Mac
sent from my DROID BIONIC via XDA App
I appreciate that but the link to the files are dead. Somebody needs to make a new legal hosting site lol. As a side note, I pulled the SD card and put a couple of update files on it then booted into recovery. From here I was able to flash both updates with zero issues, however the bootloop still remains. WTH??
I fixed it. I pulled the SD card and put both the 905 and 229 update on it. I then placed it back into the phone, booted recovery and flashed both updates (flashed 905 rebooted still bootloop, then flashed 229 rebooted). My Bionic is currently booting up now. Made it past the Dual Core screen fairly quickly too!
Let us know if it finished loading and if your good to go. If not i can see what i can do about uploading the files i used if i still have them. I know i do on my mac but that is in a connex on its way to me from fort irwin at the moment, but i think i saved most of them on my tablet too.
