Have you ever tried SkyDrive, Office 365 or SharePoint? If "no" - try, you will be very excited, no third party app is required
Umm..lets consider both the cases. Assume I want to transfer a 20MB file to my phone.
Case 1: Using SkyDrive
I use my 512 Kbps line to upload it to skydrive and download it to my phone. So upload speed is 30KBps and download speed is 60 KBps. So total time taken is around 10-15 mins.
Case 2: Using the mentioned app
Transfers the pdf directly to my device at the speed of 1MBps. Time taken is about 15-20 secs.
That is why i was so excited when I saw the app at work
Sorry buddy, I'm not so good at calculations so just did a simple experiment:
- connection: Comcast cable
- file: Microsoft_Press_ebook_Programming_Windows_Phone_7_PDF.pdf, size 13,732,470 bytes (sorry, can't find 20M pdf)
- upload to SD: 32 sec
- file opened on phone (first page shown): 47 sec
No third pary involved, no animals were harmed
Haha. True for you. That's why I mentioned my internet speed(512 Kbps), which costs around $12/month, with 1Mbps costing $22/month Comcast, on the other hand, is so cheap and lightning fast. I guess this app is only relevant guys with snail-speed internet connection.
Damn, I can only dream about 15Mbps/29.99 a month!!
i am with chaitanya on this one
for low bandwidth users this one is seriously a great app *IF* that works.
time to find out

Oh. You are welcome. It's really awesome and has reduced transfer time by atleast 60x(Because I have a slow internet connection ie 512Kbps). Transferring pdf's has never been so easy for me.
Thanks...great app
my work blocks skydrive...this solved my problem...and its faster anyway

could u explain why pdf transfer stops in middle and never completes??a 40mb pdf cant be downloaded completely..please fix this..i have an 80mb pdf also which always stops at 59%..always..
edit: i m now on windows 8 and i could transfer my fumm 150mb pdfs completely at 2055kBi/s
donno y it used to happen..happens now also..2 to 3 trials would solve the problems..
http file server needs to loacte ur device on the network to which hfs is connected..so u need to be connected to internet..even if u have limited access to ur network thats ok..i myself tested it..
u can see the ip address of ur device in hfs as 127.0.0.1:xxxxx...xxxxx is a port number and 127.0.0.1 indicates a loopback..which means the file is being shARED with a device which is an extension/connected to the same computer on which hfs is running..that means
file transfer is taking place via USB thats y file transfer speed is as much as a pen drive can have even if u have a 200MB/s connection..
good work bruce X li

I need some advice on where to get some web hosting.. I basically need LOADS of disk space, LOADS of bandwidth
Needs to be relatively cheap though, im not rich :?
Thanks.
Erm this may not be exactly what you're after, kind of depends what you want.
I use a little proggy called no-ip (www.no-ip.com). It's free and creating your own website with WHATEVER name you want (as long as it's not taken) is FREE. ALSO you no NOT need to pay your service provider for a static IP address.
no-ip turns your computer (at home) into an internet server itself & the no-ip website automatically resolves your selected website name to the dynamic IP of your PC. Using your PC as a web server means that you can use WHATEVER web services YOU want for FREE. (I use Apache for my website itself - when I can be arse to run it that is)
Oh, and another thing, the amount of webspace you can have is limited purely by the available disk space on your PC, i.e. HUNDREDS of megabytes - again for FREE.
The only down side is that you (obviously) have to keep your PC on all the time.
The cool thing about this (for others reading) is that before I go to work, I fire up my PC & clickiity click no-ip into life, turn off the monitor & sod off to work. When I'm at work & in a lull period, I CAN REMOTE DESKTOP my PC at HOME from WORK. Ha!!!! No more restriced websites & site monitoring - Who-hoo! (Oh, that's only as long as someone else, e.g. the bloody wife - isn't using the PC as well)
Andy
Thanks for your reply...
I cant be doing with all the hassle really m8.. I have found these:

I have signed up to them on the advanced plan, 25GB of space and unmetered bandiwdth lol
hey guys i was wondering if i could convert a external hard to a online storage or something
like i have a 1.5 tb hd...i already have one for my needs and this one is just lying in dust so thought if i could make some good use of it thank you
you might hav to load some form of OS,
Windows Server 2003 / 2008
or Linux Cent OS
Or you can connect it to your computer and set up FTP server.
For example the FileZilla server for windows.
Don't forget to set up user password and path to your hard drive. You can transfer files between computers easily. Also you can set up port forwarding for FTP on your router so you can access the files from internet. Beware that data is not encoded during the transfer and can be seen by hackers.
P.S. I used to send hundreds of photos to my friend though the internet without compression.

Not sure how this would work as I have not tried it, nor do I have what I am going to suggest.
How about putting it into a NAS, that way you should also be able to open the ports to access online? That way you don't need all this server stuff?

Hello i instaled the acrobat reader on my HTC HD7 and i changed the registry setings on my computer so i can use the hd7 as a external hard drive and i then uploaded some pdf files to read on the mobile phone but the acrobat reader cant find them! what im i doing wrong?
thank you
Cloud storage via SkyDrive. Hacking your phone to allow you to transfer files to it doesn't help the program access those files, since those programs weren't written to behave in that manner.
Or you could email them as attachments.
true, i tought about that but they are big files about 65 megabytes or biger
Those are some big PDF's you could try dropbox.
Easy, just use Windows Live Mesh to sync 'em to your skydrive, then point your phone's browser to the skydrive website and open them, the PDF viewer will automatically save them to your phone.
Thank you very much i will try that ;-)

You might actually encounter a problem here, because if I'm not mistaken, SkyDrive limits file sizes to 50 megs...
Also, for FAST access to your SkyDrive, once you log into it on your phones browser, Pin the webpage to your Start. Then it's just a single tap on your home screen to access SkyDrive.

Where'd you hear that???
Your main SkyDrive online storage has a 50 MB file size limit.
Your SkyDrive sync'd storage doesn't have a file size limit but only has 5 GB of online storage. So in order to take advantage of your sync'd storage, you need to use Windows Live Mesh to sync your files/folders.

That's exactly what I recommended to the OP. :O)
Dang, that looks cool as all get out. Too bad it isn't available on XP
Why is the storage size different though? I appear to have 25 gigs of storage. Or is it just a limitation of what you can sync through Live Mesh?

Unfortunately there's lots of stuff that's not supported on XP, such as IE9.
My understanding is that your Skydrive limit is 25GB for data that is synced there via Live Mesh. For files placed there manually you have a 5GB limit. I think.
Anyways, upgrade to Windows 7 if you can, it's SO much better than XP. Live Mesh rocks, I use it to keep my laptop synced to my desktop so both machines have an exact replica of all my data. If anything changes on either machine, it ripples across to the other one straight away. Awesome.

Thanks for the tip. I use samba server with wifi hotspot. It's easy because I can just use windows explorer to transfer files but I'm not that impressed with the transfer speed which is around 2Mb/s. What kind of speeds do you get with the FTP server and what client do you use?
You seem to have some knowledge and potential. Keep going...

Well with this app you don't need to turn on your device as hotspot..
just connect it to your wifi or 3g ....
configure and start ftp server with noob steps
Thats it..
Now speed is something that depends on below factors..
1.speed of net on the your device here HTC Inc S
2.speed of net on your PC from where you gonna access the your ftp server ( HTC Inc S)
I have a website that uses AppCache and I would like to know if the IE engine in Windows Phone 8/8.1 supports AppCache/Local Storage/IndexedDB.
It's more of a scripting IDE than a web page and if it works correctly it will store about 5 megs of web files into an AppCache so it could work offline. You would probably need to delete/clean internet files if you want to get rid of that.
The web page is at :
http://www.obeliskos.com/TridentSandbox
At the top left (if it works correctly) you will see status for LS (local storage), IDB (indexedDB), and AC (AppCache) ... the appcache should show downloading and then idle.
Can someone test and let me know what the status information of LS/IDB/AC are.... or if you use it, how well it works? There's a samples browser button (second from right under help) if it lets you load all the samples.
Thanks
LS/IDB/AC all work great! WP8, IE10. Haven't had a chance to really play with it yet, but you will probably want to make it more mobile-friendly. We don't have meta-keys on the phone.
hah, your all over this forum and once again with good info, thanks!
Yea I was thinking of using it just as a viewer to run prg files created on tablet/desktop and saved to skydrive. I think xbox one IE also fully supports and that has skydrive and possibly keyboard/mouse as well. I guess it might be good cross-platform for simple user programs.
Looks like I have a reason to upgrade my phone sometime soon now
