Personally, I wouldn't use Odin if I were you unless absolutely necessary.
I rooted using the instructions here, and the supplied kernel adds CWMManager, which is very similar to ROM Manager.
Since then, I've also used Mobile Odin (available from the Market).

Need a noob-friendly instruction

Dear professionals and gurus, I want you to help me solve a simple problem. I know it may seem to be a stupid question but just do not throw rotten tomatoes at me. Since the birth of my device, I used the original stock ROMs only. It did not even feel the smell of extraneous stuff such as root, shmoot and more. I never did it and am not going to. At least so far. All the way up was GB 2.3.6 -- ICS 4.0.3 (OTA) -- 4.0.4 LRK (XEU) OTA. It currently runs on 4.0.4. What I want now is to get back to GB. So,please give a simple, detailed, step by step, noob-friendly instruction of how to downgrade to stock GB without any bad aftermath like yellow triangle.
P.S. Yes, I DID read dr Ketan's thread
If you read dr ketans thread it is mentioned there that you can revert back to GB by using a stock rom and flash via pc odin.
No, you wont get that yellow triangle.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Download a gb rom according to your region here in the firmware section
Download Odin (from any thread in xda)
Once downloaded the firmware extract it and put it into the Odin folder
Download Samsung kies
Install Samsung Kies and connect your phone so it will install the drivers needed
Once done, close Kies, disconnect your phone from the computer and press all together volume down+power+home buttons until the phone gets into Odin mode.
Reconnect your phone to the pc and open odin, in Odin you should see a yellow square indicating it detected the phone.
Press the PDA button and select the file you downloaded from sammobile
Do not touch the Odin's check boxes
Press start
Done
Yellow triangles are for custom software and you are flashing official software so no triangle
If you downloaded a non wipe software probably it will go boot loops in that case disconnect all wires from the phone turn it off long pressing power and press all together volume up +power +home until it enter to recovery mode once there wipe user data and reboot.

Samsung Galaxy Ace Original Firmware installing HELP!!!

Hi Guys,
I'm New to this Forum and new to an Android .
I have Samsung galaxy ace , I installed ICS ROM , but before that I didn't do a back-UP to my own firmware
So now i just want to get back into my original firmware , somewhere I read that I can do that Using KIES (original from samsung) , and ODIN .
So can you guys give me a way to get back to Gingerbread 2.3.X , please give me a video or tell me step - by - step how to get back into my Firmware .
Please ! :crying:
(and how to backup all my data , apps, messages, contacts)
Lol, newb
You need to download Odin Multidownloader v4.38
Then get the file "cooper v1.0.ops"
Now that you have downloaded both go to samfirmware and download a firmware for your galaxy ace ( download the latest one)
After it finishes downloadibg, extract the .md5 file and open odin.
Then put the .ops file you downloaded in the .OPS part and select " one package" and choose the .md5 file
Reboot your phone into downloading mode (power buton+ volume down+home button) and plug it to your computer wait till Odin recognises your phone and start flashing.
Make sure your phone is atleast 50% charged
After Odin says its done disconnect from computer and shutdown phone and load into recovery ( if you cant shutdown, simply remove battery) and wipe to factory settibgs and wipe cache. Reboot and you should official stock ROM.
This guide is ver simple and with not many details but there are many guides on the internet.
So please use the search bar before asking.

As you can see, it's a very easy procedure. Also, "downloading mode", as said by Tovagulet, is activated by turning the phone off, and power buton+ volume down+home button.
Good luck
Nice explanation

Flash a downgrade ROM or GB rescue kit from My Android solutions, link below using Odin
Signup at http://samfirmware.com/, type "i9000" in the search field, choose the newest ROM released for you country/carrier, download it, flash it...
if u get the files, click here and download Odin v1.85 !
*Make sure Kies is not opened (Task manager > close anything named "Kies") / Battery is more than 80% / don't disconnect until the process is finished !
Open Odin, place the files like this: PDA (choose Code...) / PHONE (Modem...) / CSC (Phone...) and if there's a .PIT file you will see it (it's something like 512.pit). Then get the phone in Download Mode: Vol. Down + Home + Power, connect to pc and wait until appears in Odin. If nothing appears, you will need the Drivers. If appears, make sure repartition is unticked, and others two are ticked. Press START and don't disconnect until the phone restarts.
Done.
P.S.: That worked for me

Depends on which ROM did you put onto the device. I recall if you're trying to go back from CM9 you're going to have to do the 3 files combo via ODIN.

i can't go into recovery or download mode after flashing

Hi,
could anyone help!
my device is galaxy ace s5830i
i have already rooted my device and used CW Recovery and taken a copy of my original system .oki
i wanted to set up a custom rom i restarted and reset and deleted the cash then installed the rom.
i think it was Retribution beta
then i wanted to update to that custom rom (MindCR ICS)
all i did i restarted my phone of course went into R mode and reset and deleted the cash then installed that next custom rom .
after installing completed when i rebooted it only gave me (samsung galaxy ace s5830i) logo and doesn't open the system when i restart it doesn't go into recovery or download mode it only gives me again the same logo.
even when i press long power button it shuts down and opens automatically.

I have this problem before and i managed to use ODIN3 v1.83 (can use Odin3 v3.07) to detect my phone and flash a stock rom onto the device. I followed the advice given on this excellent thread by Supermini.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071970
As mentioned on his thread make sure you have the latest stock firmware from the sammobile site or by using Check Fus Downloader as per the guide in Rafael thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551156, a working samsung USB driver to detect your mobile on your PC and a copy of ODIN3 v1.83 (or v1.84, v1.87, v3.07 run ODIN in administrator mode if using in windows). Ultimately if this this fails you could always try a USB jig which can be purchased from ebay, etc. to get the phone into download mode.
Good luck and if this helps make sure you send a thank you to Supermini.

So . . . last thing to rescue your phone is buy on e-bay or in other place JIG if it isn't help you then try in phone service and say you tried install new ROM with Kies and your phone is brick (maybe it'll work).
Say to Service Centre Representatives that you kept your at charging last night
And when you woke up
It was not booting up
Pretend as if you dunno anything about root or ROM
They fixed my bricked phone
I am not sure if I am breaking any forum rule by telling this
Hey bro sorry for the late reply also, please before you do anything else try following my instructions.
1) download Odin v3.07
2) source the stock firmware you want to flash from sammobile.
3) make sure you have the Samsung mobile driver.
4) open and run Odin as administrator and load the single file in the PDA and highlight the tick box.
5) shut the phone down and take out your Sim card.
6) put the mobile into download mode as normal (press both up/down vol keys +power)
7) connect the phone to the PC and check in Odin to make sure its com port is detected.
8) then flash through Odin as normal.
I understand what your saying about no download screen appearing, I have found through experience that custom kernels can cause no download screen to appear. Normally with stock kernel this is not a problem but with custom kernels sometimes all you get is a black screen. Ignore this and just make sure that Odin is detecting the phone and try to flash, chances are it will flash the stock ROM and kernel. If you get the setup connection error in Odin and the fail 0\1 just try another USB port on your PC and keep persevering.
Please keep us updated so we can help you if you need it.

Why will it be hardbricked if the custom roms are based on s5830i stock roms?
But it is probable that we did I not flash the rom properly as per procedure..so is there a chance that it be bricked? Else the rom may have some problem... just telling the probability

[Q] Unroot Samsung Galaxy S i9000

My phone is currently running Android version 4.2.2 (S4 Style) Custom Rom (had Xbean before) but it is very very slow/laggy etc (had this problem with xbean and even cyanongen mod before). How can I install back the Default Official Samsung software?
Thanks
1.) Download a stock rom from http://www.sammobile.com and make sure its for your device (ie. Don't download an I9000 firmware if you have an I9001). You'll get a zip file. Unzip it, and there should be a .tar file inside.
2.) Download dbsdata.rfs.tar (currently can't find a link). Also download Odin
3.) Put the phone into download mode- vol down, home and power
4.) Connect the phone to the PC by USB cable
5.) When Odin has registered the phone (a yellow box saying ID:COM4 or something similar), select PDA and select the stock rom .tar file. Don't touch anything else and let it flash.
6.) Once its finished, it'll boot into recovery. Just pull the battery and put the phone into download mode again.
7.) Connect it to the PC again, and under Odin select PDA and this time select dbsdata.rfs.tar. Again, don't touch anything else and let it flash through.
Done!

Visit My Android Collections link below, and you can use any rescue kit or upgrade kit and you will be on default Samsung firmware...that's it, does not need dbdata.rfs flashing...Best to copy your Internal SD card ( by mounting and copying everything in it, such tht you can use your saved content later and Format entire SD card First.
