[Q] Want to know about lg optimus 2x - LG Optimus 2x

i'm planning to buy this phone
i read in many site
someone say it get very hot when charge
this problem lg fixed or not?

It's a unique problem I haven't experienced, it's a great phone, just running low on memory almost all the time which is annoying for a high-end mobile.

Well it depends...
Hello!
Well - it depends...
Since the Update to GB (aka Android 2.3.4) the phone is almost working like it is supposed to. It is sometimes a little laggy - a reboot from time to time helps here.
Since then my girlfriend didn't SOD(sleep of death) or BSOD (SOD while charging)...
Low on memory isn't a problem with a nice 32GB-microSD and using a patched rom which uses the extenal SD to install apps...
...and remember so tell the photo app to save your photos on the external card etc.
Then you can have plenty of space.
So sum it up: Hardware is fine, but the firmware is still pretty buggy, but if you are open to flash a custom rom (and loose your warranty* by the way) you get a relatively cheap (in Germany starting at 270,-€ incl. VAT for versions without simlock!) and blazing fast dual core android phone with the latest software.
...and even ICS(a.k.a. Android 4.0) is in the making.
I did so and running CM7.2-R0-KANG (Rustys kernel - look in the unofficial KANG-Thread) and ironkrnL - everything is smooth and like it is supposed to be.
Greetings
Medizinmann
*but you can reflash the original firmware in case you have to send it in for service...

[Q] Laggy UI - experiences - future

Hi
I've been doing some reading on this forum since I got my phone back from the "repairsman" due to malfunctioning speaker
So, now I've falshed the latest Modaco release, but however, the phone really get's laggy when you fill it up with apps. I get around 30mb of free RAM when everything is installed and set up.
I also experienced great improvement of my old Desire HD when I flashed to CM7 (gingerbread ROM).
So, now my question is, even though Paul did all his fantastic work on optimizing the stock ROM, are we going to experience the same "laggyness" in the future?
You might call me a bit of an app freak, but I never had these problem with my former HTC, and You would think the O2X should do at least as well.
Im aware that the O2X has lesser RAM, but shouldn't it be enough?
Could it be solved with the 2.3 release, or perhaps a CM7 custom ROM in the future?
I would really like to use all my apps and widgets as on my DHD.
What's your oppinion?
Well future isnt the future if you knew it. But my guess is that the potential of this device is by far not reached and will be greatly improved with the next update.
Since this device is so easy to root i would also say that the dev community will support it for quite a while.
Looking forward very optimistic. But as this tegra device is the first of its kind on the market we might have to live with the fact that upcoming devices use their potential better.

I guess the problem with the MoDaCo ROM is that's at the end of the day, it's still built on LG's effort.
I suspect CM will be a whole different kettle of fish.
Download MinFree Manager from Market and set different values. I set "Aggresive" settings. It changes value when apps are killed from RAM.

Considering getting a Optimus 2x

Hello
I'm considering to upgrade my Motorola Milestone to something faster and more reliable. I sleept over the other day, because of my phone had an error. I really like the specs of the Optimus 2x. But reading some some of the threads, it seems like there are problems with this phone. Did they ever find out if it was a hardware bug, or not. I'm refering to the restart/screen off bug.
And i'm going to use it for mp3 playback and web browsing. Do you think it will be a lot faster than my old Milestone, when browsing on a 2 mbit 3g connection. Also how is the soundquality from the mini jack output.
Thanks
never experienced that reboot issues.. and you can fix it somehow with new baseband and/or with another rom version. since many people report they've fixxed it i think it's fixable. or you dont expirie it at all like me
I also fixed it. Been a while since the last reboot or asking for pin. Just need the right baseband/ROM.

I havent face those probs ever, since day 1 i bought this fone..

i have been using 02X about 2 weeks..never face any reboot or bsod..mine is version 10b and still using stock rom
I think custom ROMs have more problems than stock, on stock ROM i had no reboot or something like that, now im on cyanogen, and maybe about once per day it get lagged and i need to restart it with battery, but still its not so bad.
i've been using my 2x for 3weeks no reboots on stock or modaco
I too am monitoring this thread. I have a Nokia 5530 but it just isn't enough for me. I want a fast, nice, multitouch superphonewith a large screen that isn't very pricey and can run tons of apps and games. SGS II is also appealing but 600 € is TOO much. 500 € is just bearable.
I have been with my g2x for about a week..never experienced any problems ...seems a great phone ...fast and lite
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Had g2x for a week now. Only had bugs using custom roms. Stock 2.2 is fast and stable. Phone is awesome it is the only phone I have ever had that works as fast as me and isn't sluggish.
iPhone which I thought was cool now looks ancient now compared to g2x.

Thank you for your answers, so far.
What do think about the mp3 playback and web browsing?
Yeah that works^^ dude it is sure great but not the best choise for people who just want a out of the box almost perfect phone and without any knowledge in "modding" (you can learn that stuff easy tho If you want)since you should be able to edit some stuff or optimate settings at least to get a smooth working phone with fast gps locks etc. . So after some simple work done its just fun and realy fast just great
Haven't tried the mp3...but since it's the stock media player it should be great...but I watched and receded videos and the speakers are phenomenal...I really recommend this phone..

I've had the 2X for about three weeks now. Having come from a Nexus One. Had maybe one restart from an app crashing. Bar that its been fantastic. Waiting on cyanogenmod to appear.
Browsing is fairly smooth. Vimeo HD can be played in browser without a hitch. MP3 listening is very good. Sounds very natural.
Hope that helped.

I‘ve my O2x already 1month , and it just really great! No hang no freeze .. just some leak screen at top of LCD but its nothing for me .. playin HD game is so smooth , play HD video so spectacular ! With some changing in system like root , oc , n RAM hack , it‘ll be the ultimate phone that you will own ... mp3 running well , and browsing run smooth .. hope will help you to compare
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA Premium App
If you can, wait till the end of the month and hopefully the software update will be out. Then you will be in a better position to decide. THis is of course assuming that you want the O2X.
I have had this phone for about 2 months now and while I had reboots initially, since the V10d update, I must have had a couple in over a month and a half.
I use Launcher Pro instead of the LG launcher, have rooted the phone and frozen Car Home and F Secure and installed CWM though I haven't changed the ROM (Waiting for the June update from LG)
The only thing I am unhappy with is the unreliability of the USB connection. Sometimes the phone connects to the computer perfectly. At other times it refuses to acknowledge a USB connection.
But if you're in a hurry and can't live with the bugs and uncertainty, then there are other good phones out there as well.
I will say the phone is good. I've had it for a month now and haven't had ANY of the issues reported by some users.
My phone is on stock rom 10b, rooted, clockwork recovery flashed, better camera mod flashed (and OMG it's good!), launcher pro installed, almost every LG app or process freezed since day one.
This phone is fast and awesome, BUT it was just announced that it won't be getting Gingerbread until at least autumn and my guess is that it won't have it at all
So if you can be satisfied with the phone as it is right now and not how it could be with android 2.3 go ahead it's a great device!
Cheers
I'm on cm7 mod and using opera for browsing and it's almost faster than my macbook
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
Thanks. Just won an auction on almost new LG Optimus 2x. I don't care that much about the 2.3 been delayed. At a point i thought it was the update with the bug fixes, that got postponed to autum.

[Q] LG Optimus, good?

Hi all. Just got this phone (LG Optimus 2X) a few days ago but after reading all the mixed reviews on it and the problems people are having with it I'm not sure if it's a good one to have. The constant crashing of some of the apps is the first thing I noticed. Then the shockingly short battery life (just over 13 hours on a full charge WITHOUT using the phone at all, brightness all the way down, fewer apps)... This is my first "smart phone" ever and I don't know anything about stuff like ROM,flashing,rooting... which means I can't mess with the phone at this point. I was looking at the Samsung Galaxy S II T989 AWS+850 3G, S II 727 skyrocket or S II AWS and I'm wondering if they're better phones. I'm with Windmobile (Canada) and running Android 2.2. I only have a couple of days to make a decision (keep it or exchange it for something different). Any advice?
To be fair to LG, they make decent hardware but their software are like s**t!
Anyway, the very least... Root... Custom Kernel... if you not comfortable with custom rom, then you can skip custom rom first.
At this point, I feel any other phone is better than 2x... Simply because Nvidia and LG are not working well together.
If you still have the chance, I'd recommend you to just send it back and get a better phone. The phone's hardware is decent (not the best), but LG's and Nvidia's support just doesn't cut it.
If you consider the S2 as an option, you'd just better go with it.
Thank you guys for the replies. It's becoming obvious to me the Samsung S2 is a better phone -although not by much- but the thing is, with the LG I didn't have to pay anything while the Samsung is going to cost a couple hundred or so (cant remember exactly) and I don't know if it's worth it for me since I'm not really crazy about having the best smart phones out there. I'm thinking if the LG can at least be reliable I'm ok with it. Like I said, I don't know anything about all these mods you can do to your phone but do they really make a difference?
Also, I tried to update to 2.3 but kept getting "phone has latest version..." message although it's running 2.2 currently.
Install the latest ginger bread. 20Q. its excellent compared with original stock. though you have to root it...

For the first part - I beg to differ. Our phone just got to the point when we can say that it is a good phone, with good software. Using latest official 20q or better yet, customized versions. And there is CM also.
Yes, battery can last enough with everything working just fine, with some updating or flashing various upgrades.
But it took us almost a year to get here. Because nVidia screwed us with not being involved at all, on that we all agree.
We have bought several ones as early adaptors but we have a lot of problems or had in the past... There are a lot of better phones out there it's a relieve to say goodbye after a year of use.
The latest great thing is the phone shutdown after a message saying almost empty battery lol and after a restart the percentage is 65% Most buggy software and a gingerbread update based on the froyo kernel...

Thanks again for the replies and sharing your opinions.
Supupa, the problem is I have no clue what "rooting", "flashing", "CM".... mean or how it's done. I'm sure with time and some reading and asking I'll be able to learn some of that stuff. The first thing I tried to do was to update the Android version to 2.3 but for whatever reason it didn't want to. I'm mostly concerned about the appalling battery life. A mere 14 hours on a full charge with no use (of the phone) is unacceptable no matter how good a phone is. I am going to take a second look at the Galaxy S II tomorrow and see if I can live with the cheap build.
I don't know, but to me a smart phone with bugs can't be that smart.
I would not buy it again. The hardware is very good, but the software is crap.
Best thing you can do right now is to:
1. download latest firmware: http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP990/AITADW/V20q_00/V20Q_00.kdz (found here)
2. follow one of the guides for flashing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327929
This will update everything so you don't have to bother with baseband and RIL right now. And give it a try. If it runs good enough keep it and/or customize it, if not, well...
edit: but wait! Isn't that really LG G2x or P-999 in Wind mobile? If it is, youre in the wrong forum (G2x is here) and that update will make a mess. It's not the same phone although it looks identical. Go to settings > about phone, scroll down and see what it says there. Or make a screenshot and attach it here.

I agree with Dac0908,
The phone's hardware is good, the software is ****.
And now the developers @ XDA Have so much good ROMS and now even ICS for us to say that it is a good phone again.
And the battery performance can be increased at a huge rate with a different kernel.
My phone's battery record of staying alive is 86 hours, just saying!

Thanks, Dac. My phone is the P999 actually. Anyway, I have to return the phone tomorrow because I think it's defective. I've only had it for a few days and only 4 minutes of talk time but the phone keeps disconnecting itself from service and keeps displaying the message "Emergency only". I've talked to the technical support 3 times already and went one time to the store where I bought but only a few hours after we "fix" the problem it comes back and I lose connection. The phone also kept switching between Wind Home and Wind Away on its own even though I was sitting at home. I was watching Youtube and suddenly the screen went completely black and I had to shut the phone off to get the screen to work again. I have no doubt this particular phone is DEFECTIVE. Very bad start. My Sony Ericsson 580 has been working without a glitch whatsoever since I bought it in Feb '08 and the battery still gives me the same exact time it did when it was brand new.
I don't know if I'll be having the same problems if I get another similar LG 2X. I like the phone but the problems I'm having with mine and what I've learned about this phone in the past few days make me wanna steer away from it now. I really want to give the LG O2X a try but I don't know.
Tough luck, can happen to any brand or model
Well it's not a bad phone. Most of software glitches are fixed now, community is strong, and for that price I don't think you can get something better. I'm talking about market prices, not subsidized by carriers of course.
S2 is in higher price class: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_r_vs_lg_optimus_2x-review-713.php but it's a free world... well, sort of.
Thanks, Dac. Yeah I know. It's electronics. Didn't get a chance to go to the store today. I'll go tomorrow and decide if I'm going to keep this phone or get a Samsung. If I keep it and figure out how to do all the things that can be done to make it a better phone I hope it would be reliable for at least a couple of years.
LG optimus 2X was the cheepest dual core high-end phone I could find on a second hand market in my country. Of course I flashed CM7 (I'm on a Temasek's latest KANG) and my phone is rock stable and very fast. I'm using ADW EX launcher btw. I can only sugest to the OP to invest some time in exploring how to get ROOT and how to flash custom rom because that will be usefull regardless of which android phone you have. It is actually very hard to truly "brick" your phone, I've had a broken connection wih a PC in the middle of flashing a custom rom with ODIN on my old Samsung Spica because of bad drivers and I still managed to get my phone working easily

Man!! It keeps getting more and more complicated. I have no idea what "bricking" is, ADW launcher,... So many things that I don't know anything about.
Looks like the only other decent phone I can get on Windtab is the Samsung Nexus. It's $250 while the LG is free. I'm assuming the Nexus is better than the LG but It looks ugly with that stupid curve and it feels really cheap. So, I don't know. I'm still deciding, but is the Nexus worth the money?
I was sorta in the same boat as you last week, (choosing between the Galaxy S, P990 and the Galaxy S2.).
1. The Galaxy S (with flashed rom and kernel) was already an awesome phone which could do anything you wanted, and during my short usage I found the P990 either equal (smoothness, gps fix speed) or even better (camera, wifi/3g connection strength, HDMI without $50 cable).
2. Flashing (= installing) new and better software is a piece of cake for this phone. Now I know you're new so it might not look as a piece of cake to you, but in physical steps it boils down to:
How to Root your phone. (= Give yourself full access to the phone)
1. Install software "LG United Mobile Driver 3.6" (use google) on pc.
2. Install software "SuperOneClick" (use google) on pc.
3. Connect phone to pc, then click "Root" in "SuperOneClick"
Done
How to Install custom firmware/rom/kernel
Assuming you have an external microSD card inserted.
1. Install CWM Recovery
Go to android market (on phone) and download ROM Manager. In ROM Manager choose "install/flash ClockWorkMod (CWM) Recovery
2. Download any new ROM you wish to install from this forum and put it anywhere on the phone.
3. Enter CWM Recovery mode
(When the phone is off: hold Volume Down and Power buttons. The white LG logo will come up, keep holding. Let go when the LG logo suddenly gets a blue background. Note: If you hold these buttons without succesfully installing CWM (step 1), then you will factory reset your phone and it will reboot again.
The following steps are covered in every thread on ROMs, every rom maker includes instructions on how to flash (=install) their ROMs. Yet in about 9.9 of 10 cases it boils down to:
4. In CWM Recovery, go to "Backup and Restore", and make a Nandroid backup. (You need an external microSD for this).
Move the cursor in CWM Recovery with the volume buttons and enter with the power key.
5. Do a factory reset. (Wipe Data, Wipe Cache)
Yes this will wipe your apps, appdata, messages and contacts so have that backed up if you want, but since you have a new phone, you won't have anything to save. It will not delete anything that wasn't in the Data folder, such as photo's/music.
6. Then go to "Install ZIP from SD card". Browse to the downloaded ROM (step 2), select it. It will install, will take about 1 minute. That's it. Reboot.
You can choose from ROMs based on official LG android, or totally rebuilt from scratch such as CyanogenMod (CM7), or based on CM7. ROMs with a CM7 base will look significantly different from stock roms, and subjectively I'd say these are the better roms to look at as they've been more developed. You can find CM7 roms because they have the [CM7] tag in the thread title in the Optimus 2X Development forum.
Now read more guides on how to do it (because I may have forgotten something), I just wanted to give you a basic overview of what's waiting for you. Enjoy!
As per what you pay, its the best

Hey guys,
I think it's great that you're trying to help our friend Electroman here... but please keep one thing in mind, the ROMs in this section are for P990. Electroman, if you try to flash your P999 with a ROM for P990 you will risk bricking your phone. (Bricking your phone is basically turning your phone into a brick... or paper weight) So please proceed with caution.

[Q] Just got a p990 (need advice from experienced users)

Hi, new to android. new to p990 (*just brought one)
have modded fones b4. used to be a geek on (modmymoto.com) makin monsterpacks and firmware hackin etc on v3x's.
anway
i talked to a professional today about the X2
he said dont ROOT it because of some voltage glitches with will damage the cpu eventually, also. not to install android 4.0 until it comes out from LG for my country.
I thought hmm well . I will find the community and talk to them
WHAT SAY YOU P990 USERS.
anyone had problems once rooted?
anyone had problems installing 4.0 (is it faster and i hear 30% more batt life?)
any glitches. whos bricked there fone?
Thanks for your interest/attention.
Look forward to your advice(s)
No problems here
Only thing with ICS ROMs (cm9) is there is NO HW acceleration yet... Means you can't video record with stock camera. Use a app called Camera Illuision. And for playing videos use MX Player.
Battery life, hm.. The same really. Try to match RIL and BB (use GetRIL from Google Play), try differents kernels..
Hi!
There are no disadvantages by rooting your phone I believe, at least I haven't encountered any...
As far as I know, there are also no voltage glitches on our phone which can harm the CPU. Tegra 2 is actually quite good, only their support sucks...
But, you need to know that once you want to undervolt your CPU, you can only undervolt to the minimum of 770 mV. The Tegra CPU, won't go any lower than that. I mean, you can UV lower, but it won't have any effect... , so 770 mV is the minimum.
Also, if I were you, I wouldn't wait for the official LG release of ICS, because that might take months before it is eventually released, just like Gingerbread. LG and NVIDIA are to blame for this. They are responsible for the delayed release date, because of their poor support.
k. so from what i gather. just root it. stay on 2.3.4?
i dont what to substute " acess to camera facilities and playback facilities" with other apps etc. (work arounds_) i know where this leads.. lol. its HELL!
so having stock P990 rooted is pretty much sufice to do all the major "should i say" hax.. modern... 4.0 is still bad?

Easiest way to test, install Titanium Backup, which you will need to backup your apps anyway for when you start flashing custom ROM's
One very good reason to flash a custom ROM, I think you only get gtalk with video on android 2.3.7, so that for me is a very good reason not to stay on stock, apart from the better performance, smoothness, battery life, etc!
im on 2.3.4 just got the fone. dont care about whats on it. wont bother backing up.
unless i need to backup the firmware right?
ill get superuser. thanks
If you've really just got the phone then I wouldn't recommend doing any warranty voiding activities.
If you search around this forum you will find a testimonial from an user that got a faulty equipment, sent the phone once for repair, checked the IMEI and it was still the same phone, se he sent the phone again and the second time around he got a different phone (different IMEI) and the phone was perfect.
So why not taking the time to make sure everything is working properly? (GPS, Wi-Fi, radio, etc...)
Titanium Backup is still a good app to check if you have root though, even if you don't want to backup anything.
Or get the app ROM Manager, to install CMW (ClockWorkRecovery), for flashing customs ROMs..

oh i get you now. makes sense. not signed drivers. so the other dependant software/hardware wont operate its like um. that on motorola codegroups also. some of them had the no cert codegroups mixed and the flex/flash/seem edits you had issues with some russian firmwares that had the codegroups of other fw's that had NO RSA. so you couldnt use certain drms and installs (native intergrated mods) and (additional mods like itunes etc) into the fone because of RSA.
so it was up to the communities to find RSA removed codegroups and compile fw's from them.
is it similar to this?
Don't know

Is it worth doing root in LG L7 P705 or buying a new cellphone?

It happens that my LG L7 is too slow, since it has little RAM.I thought of doing root on my phone, but i know little about how doing it and i am not certain if it would be a good idea,or if should just buy another phone.
What i ask you is to give me some answer, showing arguments since what happens to you do not necessarily will happen with me.If it worths doing root, then i would like to know which ROM you used also.
As a long time user of this phone, all I can say is better buy a new phone.
this phone is way outdated and can't do anything to speed it up even if you root and use custom ROMs.
But you can use this as spare phone for playing or flashing custom ROMs for fun or education as well.

I just wanted to ask you if you have ever tried custom ROMs like Xoptimus, cyanogemod or the european version.Because you can see some youtube videos of them showing high performances in l7.
I haven't tried that xoptimos, idk what is that.
I've tried most of custom ROMs here on xda. And for me the best ROM was vanir 4.1.2 and unfortunately no one was able to have a copy of it.
Right now I'm using cardoso cm10, my daily driver.
Like I've said, you can op for a new phone as your main phone. And make your l7 as your experimental phone for flashing custom roms. By that you can test a lot of custom ROMs. And only you can say which phone is really cool and good ROM.

my 5 cents...
Probably not worth it.. unless you have the time on your hands to play with it....
Base on my experience.. I had a hard time to find the right software ( stable and working) for this phone LG L7 p705.... in technical world.. this phone is a grandpa now....
You might gain some speed back and slightly better performance out of this "grandpa" phone by factory resets/ cleaning caches and partition..reinstalling ROMS.. BUT.. I have spent a lot of time searching and trying.. almost bricked this phone in those procedures... MY Lg L7 p705 is now working slightly faster...BUT.. my 5cents>>> buy a newer phone!.. cheers...
Maybe, some experienced "phone flashers" and developers might help you here...or youtube and a lot of google search might work for you as it did, to some extend, for me....
get a new phone...
My last hope for legacy devices was when real ART support never manifested into a useable ROM. CM11 runs great in ART mode, but there's virtually no development for it or even Xposed compatibility. But that would be my suggestion: Find a CM11 ROM that will run in ART mode, but don't expect much customization.
Update: On a positive note, I left my S3 out in the rain and am using my L5 while it dries out. I don't mind using it at all and performs better than would be expected given the absurd amount of time I've spent setting up the old Carbon CM11. It has better phone/talk quality than Samsung by far, and can have a clear conversation while driving with the window down. But can't fix the kernel wakelocks preventing deep sleep. I don't know why I admire this cheap L5 better than my clunky S3, I just do.
More positives: With custom kernel you can overclock several hundred mhz, run memory tweaks to gain nearly 1gig with zram compression, then if you use that up have another 1.5 gigs of virtual memory. Then, up the read ahead on your data partition. I only notice minor lag on my single core system compared to faster dual cores with 4x physical ram.
