What is the I897 ROM after UCKK4? UCKK4 is 2.3.5. Can we get a 2.3.6 ROM for I897 in 2011?

if you have basic questions like this, try to post them in the Q&A Section, not the Development Section. This section is reserved for more advanced issues.
to answer your question, KK4 is the most recent captivate specific leak that we have gotten. technically speaking there have been no "official" releases for our cappy's since froyo. all of the gingerbread roms are from the leaks we have gotten, all unofficial. if you are looking for something newer than 2.3.5, you can try one of the 19000 ports, like ones based off of JVZ which is 2.3.6, or you can try cm7 or miui which are both 2.3.7, or you can try the ics roms that are out there, like the one from teamhacksung, which would be the most recent versions of android. as to when we would get another leak, or even an official OTA, who know?! be happy with what we DO have, which is solid leaks and EXCELLENT developers =D
Thank you very much!

KK4 is official and a leak. It was leaked around November/December 2011, then became the official release in, i think, February 2012.

I haven't been able to mess with my phone a lot, as I have been very busy with TF2.
Recently my phone broke (AGAIN!) so I had to revert it to Stock.
But I was running some hacked-up version of the 2.2 beta. When my new phone comes, I want to be running the 2.2 stock firmware.
Where is the offical 2.2 stock ROM?
No such animal for AT$T, yet.
If I remember correctly, 2.2 was supposed to be out in September. What happened?

Samsung happened...
There was a post around here about carrier/samsung drama, royalties, etc.; no official Samsung 2.2 rom out (though there are a lot of roms which i'd reckon to be way, way better than anything samsung could put out).
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF oh well.
Any good unoffical 2.2 builds?

Plenty of them. Just check in the Dev section and browse all the ROM's. Pretty much all of them are running either 2.2 or 2.2.1. Just find one with the features you want and flash.
My preference is Perception. Runs smooth for me and does everything I need.

There is an official rogers build. Also Cognition 3 and firefly both of which are based on the official rogers build (2.2). Check in android dev section.
I read that it is not a royalty issue it is a carrier issue. The 2.2 for Vibrant is starting to roll out today through Kies, and I read that it was released to T-Mobile in November. But T-mobile had to add their icons and bloatware before release. So ATT is most likely the reason we don't officially have Samsung ATT release. Either all the bloatware like Elcair 2.1 or they just don't care.
Wow, an official 2.2 release from a US carrier! Just found the official statement at http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Samsung-Vibrant/Samsung-Vibrant-software-upgrade-to-Android-2-2-Froyo-now/td-p/678871.

Problem is thanks to locked bootloader we still have to rely on them for a kernel
Hopefully they'll provide us with a good Froyo kernel with the official release, but we'll never get a true Gingerbread kernel

It doesnt matter anyways. I'm running gingerbread for several days now and it runs flawless. The speed is amazing and the improvement compared to 2.2 is noticeable. You wont be needing a 2.3 kernel. I think the milestone can stay with this. Installing an AOSP Gingerbread + some memory tweaks in open recovery juices the most from this phone. Flash works perfectly! Can it get better than this?
I believe when the minor bugs(mostly unnoticeable) in Gingerbread will be fixed everything is going to be great.
So who cares about motorola anyways?!
may someone kindly explain how is this possible to "run" gingerbread on froyo kernel (as same as it was with froyo running on eclair kernel)?
What exactly do we get by running new OS without new kernel?
What will be better if we would have gingerbread kernel for the gingebread roms?
It would be nice to know why is this, not just how it manifests.
With the froyo leak, a new kernel was released, so there are a lot of ROMs that can replicate froyo performance for real now... and please correct me if i'm wrong but gingerbread is based on the froyo kernel right? so thats why we've already got froyo as well as GB roms for milestone...
if we are lucky end of February, early March official release is to be expected
Yeah froyo will be one your er.. our phone in two weeks.

Official statements are still in the form of Q1 2011...the rest is guessing. I suggest you root your phone and learn how to flash ROMs. Froyo (2.2) is the end of the line for our phone from Mot...but the community already has 2.3 working.

I had a look through the Android development section and couldn't really find anything above 2.2. My GF has a captivate and she's finally willing to do away with the carrier installed stuff.
And IF there are no 2.3 ROMs (which really doesn't make any sense because I've been running 2.3 on my DZ since the start of January), what are some of the better 2.2 ones?

Serendipity is the best one I've found, Mike has a great eye for design, and he and Chance have great ideas on functionality. They pay close attention to detail and update the ROM frequently with easily flashed .zips in recovery (no wiping involved unless it's a major update). It's built on 2.2.1.

Care to enlighten the masses on this? Cyanogen's been trolling (IMO) on his wiki:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Flashing_CyanogenMod
"NOTE: As of right now CyanogenMod is not available for the Samsung Galaxy S family. Please check the wiki or the Samsung Galaxy S sub-forum for updates."
But then again, I suppose if you have a large amount of expertise and win in your arsenal, you could fit all of the witchcraft to the Captivate, unless I'm a complete noob and Cyanogen got a ROM hidden away that I'm not aware of.
Serindipity is one that I've been looking into. I have her phone ready to rock and roll, rooted + CWM. Just need to decide on a ROM
I find it strange that the Galaxy S lineup still doesn't have a publicly available 2.3 ROM... considering the first device to ship with 2.3 was the Nexus S. IIRC it has a near identical hardware set as the Fascinate, Captivate, Vibrant, I9000 etc.
LOVE Pargaon RC6....Great ROM! Stable, fast, and great GPS! It is 2.2.1. No 'working' 2.3 roms out as of yet!

As for it not making sense, The whole reason you have been able to run it is that HTC likes putting the source code up as to where we are still trying to get it from Samsung. Heck 2.2 official just dropped to day. lol
You will get 10 different answers as to some good roms. Just have a read in the threads and chose one that seems good to you.
Ok so 2.2 offically came out for captivate today.
I know There is Cog 3.03v which I am running.
Cog 4 came out like 2 days ago.
And I don't have any clue when a Stable rom is coming out for 2.3 Gingerbread.
I am probably going to flash stock (thats odin right?) tonight.. then go to Cog 4 tonight.
I am not really interested in gingerbread theme's so much as the actual changes.
Can anyone break down why cog 4 is an entirely different rom than 3.03v?
My understanding is its a modified version of the stock at&t froyo although I could be wrong.. So I am guessing 3.03v is a ported version of froyo from some similar phone.
Any idea what is going to give best over all performance?
I would like to think 2.3 gingerbread is coming out soon in the form of a rom.. but, I am also not holding my breath.
Advice would be appreciated.

will samsung galaxy s get more updates or this update 2.3.3 XXJVK is last update ?
in my opinion after using JVK, it still got bugs (beta) and there will be more updates,
2.3.3 is
1st not officially released
2nd. other than Europe its not even leaked.
so logically yes I am expecting more updates...rest Time will tell
Samsung have the answer nobody else .

3.0 honeycomb is for TABs. No way SGS's gonna get it. JVK is raw beta, sweeter versions are coming I guess.

On a more serious line, if the next updates will work on SGS the update will be taken into consideration... but as we know it SGS 2 is being released in the near future they will stop support for the sgs and focus on updating the sgs 2 to make people buy it
Sadly marketing and sales are everything for these companyes....
Why do some people think JVK was beta because of a few bugs? there have been far worse official kies releases in the past. It may well have been a beta just don't expect perfection if we do get another release, you'll only be disappointed. Personally JVK has been one of their better firmwares, I would gladly have this via kies. The only thing stopping me from using it is the lack of source and voodoo, anyway, I do believe we will have more updates, well I hope so anyway.

i think its weird that Samsung are still releasing more froyo versions so close to an official GB version release. With that in mind, hopefully there will be many GB versions from different regions around the world, just like froyo.... Wont hold my breath.
An additional question - Will the next android release (2.4?) be able to be adapted to SGS with no Samsung support e.g. CM8?
I think that we will continue to see more froyo builds for awhile, as not all carriers and regions will be upgrading to Gingerbread, or at least not at the same time.
Parallel to that I imagine over the next couple months the official Gingerbread firmwares will start, so like Froyo, we will have many different 2.3.3 builds from different regions to argue about and play with, likely appearing throughout 2011.
The next announced build is Ice Cream Sundae, that is 2.4. As this is said to be an extension of Gingerbread, I imagine it will work on the SGS, but as by the time it is released the SGS II will be out for several months, I wouldbe VERY surprised if we see an official Samsung SGS firmware based on 2.4 However, I am sure we will see some SGS ROMs based on 2.4 here in XDA, so do not fear...we haven't hit a dead end with this phone yet.
As for Honeycomb (3.0), it is optimized and designed from the ground up for tablets and larger screens so even if it could be ported to the SGS, I don't see why you would want it to be.
Well, after looking at the code for JVK olny for a few hours, Supercurio said on twitter that it has a major security flaw and that it probably is an unfinished version of the firmware that will be released officialy. Based on his track record I trust Supercurio.

Another Gingerbread firmwares - yes. Official Ice Cream firmwares - most probably no.
Truth is, nobody on here knows anything about future updates, the most anybody can do is speculate. If you had believed what people on here thought about the update probability for the Galaxy S upon its release, you wouldn't have believed we would even have froyo by now.
Wait and see.
As promised GB will be the last update to i9000
Hello Every one,
Gingerbread will be the final update for I9000,
The Version 2.3.X will be release to all the I9000 model.
There will be regular update for the Gingerbread only (Bug fix & Perfomance update).
Version 3.0 will be not given to i9000, But we can opt to Custom ROMS for V 3.0.
Samsung will constrate more on S2. Samsung Promised only Gingerbread for i9000. No more future OS update. (Gingerbread updates only)
I have heard that Icecream will be a merge of gingerbread and honeycomb and will be version 4.0

Samsung will have an easier time rolling our updates because they produce the nexus S which is essentially a glorified stock GT-i9000. It'd be bad PR to stop producing updates. Samsung knows that if they want people to buy their new phones they have to support their previous ones.
My update will be to the phones after the Tegra 2 generation. And if my Galaxy S is stuck at 2.3.3 in Q4 2011 my next phone won't be a Samsung.
