Hi all:
I'm hoping someone can help me here. I have Cyanogen 7 on my phone and had it for a while. But I'm having some issues with it (every day some apps uninstall themselves and when I go back to the market place it says it's not compatible with my device) and I'd like to go back to the stock rom. I had a backup but for somereason it's not on my SD card anymore.
I downloaded the RUU from the HTC web site but no matter what I do I can't get it to find my phone. I get the USB 170 error. I even installed HTC sync and it doesn't detect my phone.
Is there any other method to get it back to stock? A pre-setup rom I can download and install through Rom Manager perhaps?

Just go to Liquid Sense ROM instead...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=856099
you can update your PRL there and then Just flash whatever ROM you want with a clean slate...
But you'll need to do more than just factory reset.
From recovery...
Format everything except SD card under mounts and storage
then do the regular factory reset and wipes.
Then erase all ur old restores if they are giving you trouble
uninstall and reinstall ROM manager and reflash the top tab, clockmod recovery
then u should be good to go on flashing whatever ROM you want... but if youre using titanium backup... becareful cuz whatever issue your having may follow you if you do any sort of titanium backup
good luck
if not then unroot with this

Ok I have rooted my captivate and un-installed at&t's crappy software and have clockwork recovery installed. 1st question is did Clockwork make a back-up already of my stock rom when I installed it and labeled it "update.zip"? That's what it seems like when i read the directions for it. I made a backup while i was in clockwork recovery just in case. So if i want to restore my phone back to normal do I start clockwork and install that "update.zip" file or the backup I made?
2nd question is if I want to un-root the phone do I just run the one-click unroot option and it brings everything back to normal? Or do i have reinstall all of at&t's crapware then unroot so things do not get messed up? If anyone can help this would be great. Thanks, Jesse

The update.zip is actually the Clockwork Mod Recovery, this is where you have the option to restore your backup, also know as Nandroid. You may need to click on reinstall packages more than once and you will then see the menu for ClockworkMod Recovery. You will find your backup there, just choose backup and restore, you can then choose restore, and you will see the backup you created. You can also restore your backup through the ROM Manager app. Only your Rom is backed up and all of your setting but not the kernel.
To totally restore should you ever use a mod that changes your kernel you should use Odin one click to restore to stock. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989 This will remove rooting and restore the AT&T bloatware and set the phone back to how it was out of the box, don't worry about rooting because once you restore your backup ROM you will regain root.
Thanks for the help! Is there a mac version of that odin software to get back to stock firmware? Also is the stock firmware built into that application or do I need to download it from somewhere and place it on my phone through the computer?

It's built in, this version has everything you need it is one click. I don't use Mac but I do know there is a program you can run within Mac to use windows. Head to to Cognition IRC chat and ask the guys there. http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=Cognition
So this is my first time at this, and could use a little guidance. I really dont want to Brick my phone. I don't have the money right now to get a new one. lol
Well I have done some research, but there is so much information out there that it is hard to figure it all out. I own an HTC Hero CDMA through Alltel, and I plan on installing CyanogenMod 7.2.
Right now I am looking at rooting with Z4Root, then using Rom Manager to install CM 7.2
I cant find a link to the Google apps I need, so if anyone has a link on hand that would be awesome.
Does anyone have some suggestions before I start?
gapps are usually posted in the op with the rom.
Here is the link to Google Apps.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version#Google_Apps
Notice there is only one Google Apps file for all devices running CM7 so you don't have to worry about downloading the wrong one
Your plan sounds fine. Personally I would rather use this as a chance to get more acquainted with ClockworkMod recovery than Rom Manager, as it is usually the tool that will save you if your phone goes wonky (you can use recovery to save you from any messed up ROM, but you can only use ROM Manager when your ROM is working in the first place). This is what I would do.
1) Z4 Root.
2) Install ROM Manager
3) Flash ClockworkMod Recovery
4) Download CM 7.0.2, place anywhere on SD card
5) Turn off phone, then hold Home + power to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery
OR in Rom Manager, click on Reboot to recovery
7) In ClockworkMod Recovery, go to Backups and restore > create nandroid backup
8) wipe factory settings from the main menu
9) Install zip from sdcard > flash CM 7.0.2 + Google apps
10) reboot
Done!
By the way, there are only two ways to brick the phone, AFAIK: flashing a wrong radio/bad radio flash or bad flash of an SPL. Installing a ROM (at least on the Hero) does neither of these, so you don't have to worry.
Thx for the guide, but I am having a problem when trying to Z4Root, it just stops at the ...Rebooting screen and never rebots. Also when I try to go into recover it comes up witha phone and a ! with a red triangle around it. Any advice?
I was stuck with Z4Root at the ...rebooting screen also. I just pressed Home or back to get out of it. Then I looked in my app drawer and saw Superuser was there. After that, I went to the Market and downloaded ROM Manager and flashed ClockworkMod recovery.
Z4 root hung up for me too. I ended up having to do it twice before it took. Imediately after you have superuser in your app drawer install Rom Manager....
That's where you get your custom recovery. If you don't have Rom Manager yet, you won't have custom recovery. Also, as tedius as some of these forums are, they are the best way to learn. Since rooting my hero, I have also rooted two Nook Colors and an LG Optimus, and become pretty familiar with using ADB......waiting to get my paws on my wife's Evo now.
****EDIT**** FYI Z4 Root took almost 15 minutes to run its course on my phone....Make sure you have a good battery.

use your WIKI http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001
Hey I have an optimus 2x.
i was running stock gingerbread on my rooted device. the other night i installed rom manger and downloaded CWM straight from there for my phone. it was version 6. something. i booted into recovery. made a nandroid backup(into the external memory of the phone) . then awhile later for some small reason i restored that same backup, which restored but it sent my phone into boot loop. the lg logo just flashes on and off.
i then heard that i may have installed the wrong CWM so i put another version of recovery onto an sd card and flashed it onto my phone.
cwm-based recovery v5.0.2.7
Now i have this recovery but when i try to restore that same backup it restores it really quickly and says it cant find a bunch of stuff.
i tried to put cynogenmod on the sd card but my phone doesnt give me the option anymore to install zip from external sd.
i have been reading and reading. currently i am on your thread called full brick repair.
i just dont know which way to go. i cant even find a stock ROM. the links i found are broken. I am in canada. its a fido phone.
i have tried A lot.
ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED . Thank you.
Now you have older version, when backup have been made by newer version. You have to flash newer version of CWM and then wipe data, system and restore backup. It will work
If you want to back to stock, use nvflash toolkits that are floating around here.

The reason i installed the older CWM is because my phone kept bootlooping after restoring the backups
ANYWAYS, i manged to flash the latest cm10 andGapps on my phone. its a bit laggy
what i am trying to do tho is use setDNS an app. to change my dns settings in order to get the american content from netflix.
setdns has superuser permisions and all but i still get the canadian version of netflix.
i think its because of CM10, what should i do?
Heyho,
so i make it short and i hope you can help me.
I had a long time InsertCoin on my One.
I want to change it and search for Cyanogenmod. On my HTC DHD it works great. But that's only 7.3 or so.
Sure, i want to have the new CM 11 with KitKat. On InsertCoin i had KitKat too but there weren't the KitKat Features like klicking on KitKat System info to open an animation.
I search and find OneDroid Here in xda-developers
So download and copied to my internal storage.
Let's go to the Recovery. ( Before that. i had backed up my device with TWRP and Titanium Backup and copied the data files to my PC for recovering)
So i click install, choose the Rom. its start, doesn't find an MD5 File (IDK what that is but in insertCoin it wasn't there too and it works) after some minutes it says sucessfull installed. It restart.
The restart takes up to 10 minutes. And Yeah! What i see? The Lockscreen... For 1 second. Then i got very very very very lot messages of: process.com.phone has stopped or else. The CyanogeMod Account Programm stopped too.
I cant click anything - nothing possible. so i turn off and tryed to install my Backup but that was on my PC and one OneDroid Crashes the PC Driver wont be loaded.
I tried to get the OneDroid Rom over adb sideload to install (maybe the Zip on my phone was broken??) but the same. Crashes about crashes.
At the moment i try to install InsertCoin over ADB Sideload. First Try failed. he stand by 0 for over 10 minutes.
After that i will load my Backup to my internal Storage and run that.
I hope it works!!!!
ok... doesnt work... Mod edit removed suggestion of swear word.
Can you help me???
Note to OP,
I have moved your thread into the Q&A section. Also I have edited your post and removed the suggestion of the swear word. Just to let you know swearing is not allowed on XDA,
Many thanks,
Ghost
Did you forget to wipe data and system (NOT SD CARD) before installing the ROM?

do you mean on my rom which i got with the Sideload?
BEFORE you sideload or install a new ROM..
with OneDroid if you don't do a clean install (wipe before install) cyanogenmod account will crash every time and make the phone unusable. make sure to wipe first also when reflashing onedroid after using for a little while if phone disappears and doesn't work properly flash a stock gpe rom and then reflash onedroid on it to fix.
No I have clicked wipe cache and system
Thx. Marcmicalizzi - but that not solve my problem. I thought it will ask me whether I want to perform a full wipe, therefor I was a bit wondered that I haven't any preferences which I can change in the installation
So I found the solution and have a next question.
At first the solution for the "experienced users" and as second the faster and easier solution. Both work!
So if your Device crashed all the time because you didn't perform a full wipe, hopefully you have installed your programs for rooting your one. With that you can sideload a Rom and install it. Click at the aroma installation perform a full wipe!!!
If you want to do it very very easier and you don't have so much skills and experience in adb via commands you can install the all in one rootkit for the HTC one. Left down, there is a list. The first entry is the command for sideload a Rom. Click on it and follow the tips on the screen. On TWRP you start the sideload mode in the recovery under advance/sideload.
So you can fix your phone
WARNING!! Very important is (by me it hasn't work without it) if you start the sideload mode on your phone, don't check wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache.
It hasn't began the installation.
Tomorrow I can upload some pictures and links
So I'm back to InsertCoin.
One question. Before I want to switch to onedroid, I did an Rom backup. I want to restore it but it stopped and didn't go further...
After 20minutes I break that up and install the Rom clear.
Are I'm allowed to copie the backup to my PC and later again back to my one? I gave it a new name but renamed on my phone the old name.
Is that one of the reasons that it didn't work correctly?
Thx.
Best regards Sharin
