wifi tethering broken even with a custom rom? - Motorola Droid 3

Do none of the wifi tethering apps work even if you are running a custom rom?

all will work if you use TBH's radio hack. Otherwise it has to be an AOSP rom being Liberty or CM7. You may have to use barnacle for liberty and for sure do in CM7.

Considering rooting

I'm currently considering rooting but before I do so and try out different roms I want to know if there's a rom that is basically the official 2.1 version but with the ability to utilize the apps for OC and WiFi tethering. Important that sense is present and that all included features are fully functional. I want to know about this so that I can have something similar to the official version to start out with.

2.1 Root here -- foolproof way, use it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
Don't bother with the one-click methods as they don't always work.
OC kernels depend on a couple things: 1) Which ROM you're using and 2) Your phone itself, cuz not all phones can OC to the same speeds or boot at OC speeds. Read up on these 2 threads before trying to OC:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750170

As for Wireless tether, it has nothing to do with the kernel. Any ROM or kernel can use it, and most ROMs here already have it included. I also think its available in the market?
Hope this helps. As I'm sure you learned from your Samsung Moment...make sure you do plenty of reading before doing anything to your phone. Also, most answers you want are already out there somewhere if you'll search these forums.
I got my wife's Hero root access using:

Piece of cake
Thanks mate,
Now that I have a push in the right direction, and I am aware that all phones dont OC the same, I just want the most used uncapped kernal.
The reason I asked about the wifi tether is that with the moment there was specific rom that had it, and when I seach for cdma htc hero wifi thether rom I cant get straight anwsers.

no you cant use most Miui apps in other ROMs. Just use Miui ROM, its much more stable then current ICS and it has ton of features that ICS does not.

I completely agree with kolyan, but there are few advantages on CM7 over Miui. My personal experience is CM7 has solid framework and I find CM7 mobile signal reception is much better than Miui. Also the default SD-Card manager in Miui has few issues (may be on my phone) as in I need to reboot my phone after copying any files to SD-Card using built in filemanager.
I would love to have DND, data monitor , notes and other apps on CM7. These apps are so convenient to use. If anyone knows how to install them on CM7 that would be great, thanks in advance.
CM7

ROMS that work with wifi-tether and wifi-calling.

I've tried a few different ROMS for my HTC ONE, but turns out that most Sense 5.5 ROMS with Android 4.3+ don't work with wifi-tether (needed for hotshield VPN) and wifi-calling.
Which custom ROMS work or are recommended?
Thanks.

You will have to use an OEM based rom that is based on the t-mobile software as they are the only ones that use the wifi calling. As for teathering I cant say as I have never found a need for it.

Stock/custom rom

This may be a dumb question, but in another thread abt wifi issues, I mentioned that I'm on Eclipse and my wifi works fine. Another user said that Eclipse is a stock rom, not a custom rom, and that's why I didn't have the WiFi problem.
I had to flash Eclipse so I therefore assume it's a custom rom. If this person is correct, then my question is, what is considered a custom rom? And why is Eclipse considered a stock rom?

Some ROMs are based on Stock ROM.. Without bloats....
Some change everything including the UI... Those are Custom.
This is how I was told.. :3

Eclipse is a custom ROM based on a stock build. Eclipse has been heavily modified but everything that works on stock will work on Eclipse and more.
