THIS THREAD IS NOW OBSOLETE - GO HERE FOR A MODDED APK THAT WORKS WITH THE XOOM
Known compatibility (not sure if this would change between roms, but I thought I'd include it):
Wifi Xoom with stock rom
Wifi Xoom with tiamat rom
Wifi Xoom with Eos nightlies
This method has been mentioned in a few other threads that discuss how to run hulu on our Xoom but I figured I would try to contribute with a bit of a guide for those that may need it. I take no credit for this method, its simply something I came across in numerous locations (including XDA and somewhere else for my Motorola Photon - same method works) and would like to consolidate the information for other Xoom owners.
On to the guide...
Root access is required for this method to work as well as Titanium Backup. If you do not have root access and do not want to root, you can use the hacked flash apk that allows you to watch hulu in a browser on your Xoom. This information can be found here.
1. You will need to first download this Zip Folder.
Inside you should find 3 files.
2. Take these files and move them to your Titanium Backup folder (where all the backups are stored). All three files need to be moved here.
3. Open Titanium Backup. Toggle on over to the Backup/restore tab and scroll toward the bottom. You should now see the HuluPlus app here.
4. Click on Hulu Plus and select Restore..
5. The key step! You must select App + Data. Selecting only App will result in Hulu+ being restored but upon opening, indicating that your device is not supported. Select App + Data!
And there you go. Open Hulu Plus and you can begin watching. Unfortunately this is a backup from a phone so it automatically switches to portrait mode and really isn't designed for tablets. If you have an app like Orientation Switch that can lock your orientation for you, you can set it to landscape for the time being and that will make things a bit better.
I know this may come across as a bit of a redundant thread, but I thought I'd try to contribute, as XDA has helped me out a lot. Also, if you could please provide feedback if it worked for you/didn't work for you that'd be great! Enjoy

Can you elaborate please? What exactly is not working?
Basically have the same rooted set up as you do. I have uninstalled, downloaded, restored through Titanium several times and it loads but still says device not supported and I cant go any further. I do restore app+data. Any other thoughts?
Did you install the hulu APK (the normal way, sideloading it like any other apk) and then backup -> restore?
And are you running on stock honeycomb or Tiamat?
I did not side load apk.. I had originally downloaded apk and installed then I uninstalled and put files in Titanium backup folder and restored. I saw a few posts that said all you needed was the restore. I have Tiamat

OK so you must be my lucky charm. I shut it down and restart and it works like a champ. I'll let you know if I have any problems. Thanks
Awesome good to hear it worked!

To be clear does this mean you HAVE to watch it in landscape? Normally hulu wen you click play (on my Evo for example) automatically goes into landscape anyway and that's a "phone" so i am a bit confused by this statement. Or do you just mean the menus and stuff are portrait instead of landscape like they normally would be on a tablet.
THANKS!

Your last part is correct. When you open the app with normal orientation (nothing preventing it from rotating) it will switch to portrait mode just as it would on your phone. However, just as on your phone, it will switch to landscape to play video. The only part that looks bad in portrait really is the initial screen, as it leaves 70% of the screen empty. After that it looks alright. It might just be me as well, but the menu screens in landscape mode seem to not like to load the preview image.

After a few restores of the app, its now working
Thanks much.
Did you happen to have a prior backup of the app or any instance of huluplus on your Xoom prior to trying the backup? I have tried this on my Xoom on a few different Roms with clean data and it works first time when I do it. Just trying to gauge why it doesn't work right away for some people

A) I've purchased these on my phone (Nexus One) but they don't show up on the market on the Nook Color (even with the new Market).
Does anyone know how to make them show up? (I've tried Market Enabler to no success as well).
B) Using Root Explorer, I took the apks from data\app on my Nexus One and put them in data\app on my Nook Color, and changed permissions. They show up in the launcher after reboot. However, on launch, it fails downloading the data saying that it's an unsupported device.
Has anyone gotten these games to work or know of a way to?
Are these commercial games authorized/licensed by device? I mean, you DL'd them for your Nexus One and now you seem to want to copy them to another device.

I doubt it. I've used plenty of other paid apps on both devices (such as Root Explorer, Titanium, Robo Defense, etc).
Well in my last two days of reading this nook color section I have learned allot. One thing I am sure of is that the Market place checks the device connected to it and only shows apps that will or should work on said device. I now games like the ones you have mentions have not been written to work on the resolution of this size screen so they will not show up nor can they install on the device.
I happened to get NOVA HD downloaded but it would only show like half the screen. Most games or apps that are not compatible yet will not even install. I am sure you we will have to wait till these games are supported for the Galaxy Tab.

I got NOVA running on mine as well. Believe it's version 3.50, (not positive). Was already running the Spare Parts App and never had to mess with the compatibility mode with it. Game works great.
I tried NFS, got it installed and running, but its a no go. Graphics are reduced to just a couple shadows.
I have Nfs working like a charm on my NC..

The paid apps follow your gmail account. I got all of the EA games to work on my nook color by buying them on my epic then using mybackup pro to make a backup of them. Then, I would move the backup file and the sd card EA folder over to my NC. Lastly I would restore the backup with mybackup pro on my NC. They all opened perfectly, after the already mentioned spare parts compatability check toggle.
Hope this helps.

I tried this with Titanium Backup (paid) but the apps never show up in the list of possible apps I can restore, even when the files are in the correct directory for Titanium Backup.
What does MyBackup Pro do that Titanium Backup doesn't?
And is there a way to do this with Titanium Backup? (I have the paid version if it makes any difference.)

I'd like to share the apk, but it's not half legitimate. I guess this is not the right place to share that kind of data..

Walk through it with me:
1) Make backup on your phone
2) Run TitaniumBackup once on your NC so that the folder is created
3) Copy the THREE FILES for that one app from your phone to your NC
4) Relaunch TitaniumBackup
5) Scroll to the bottom. It should be listed as "Uninstalled"

I tried this.
A) First problem: It fails downloading the game files after you launch the game.
B) Second problem: So I copied over all the files from my phone to my Nook to get around the first problem. It runs, but then says "This is an unsupported Android device" and then quits.
C) Third problem: I'm not sure what happened, but then I launched the game again, and it went through. Unfortunately, everything on the main menu was white and completely blank. I could hear the music but couldn't see anything except for a few outlines of some objects on the main menu. Basically 100% unplayable.
Did the Titanium Backup method work for you? If so, what device did you perform the backup on?

My Samsung Vibrant.
Note that I don't move the downloaded files over. I find the APK, move it to my NC, and install it. Then I let it download.
For your third problem, what game? NFS? Which version of the APK do you have?
The NookColor appears to have the same or similar enough hardware to the Motorola DroidX to have the same EA games work. If you are trying to use a game make sure the processor of the phone file is the same family as the NookColor. The NookColor uses a Ti OMAP processor, which is what the DroidX uses. I think the Samsung Epic uses a different processor and GPU.
Not sure if anyone posted this, but I thought I saw someone mention the lack of apps in marketplace under top paid/top free, etc.
I noticed that when you switch to landscape, marketplace will then load the rest of the apps under each category (continuously, as you keep scrolling). Probably old news, but figured I'd throw that out in case there are others out there that were confused like me, considering it was my first time ever using droid marketplace
new market
The old market will only display 10 apps and 1 app need to be off the screen to enable scrolling.
Download the new market from the post below. copy it to your SD card and use Astro file explorer to install it. The new market is made for tablets and you will not need to switch to landscape to scroll to more apps.

There are instructions in a thread in the Themes and Apps section.
It involves using adb but it's really no biggie.
I know that this has been covered but this is slightly different. My YouTube stopped.working last night, I assume for the same reason as many. I tried to uninstall and reinstall with no success. I had a similar issue. I just ran the attached .apk via ES File Explorer and I was back in business.
I had that issue during the week too. I went to NC portal and grabbed the signed youtube apk for the nookie froyo and that worked for me.
I will try this again. So what directly do I put the .apk in? system/app?
Last time I tried to run that it gave me a parsing error. Perhaps the file was corrupt.
I will give the above a go and report back.
It will not install. It acts like it is going to install, and then simply states on the screen "Application not installed" and a "Done" button.
How can I wipe out YouTube completely from the machine? I think it is conflicting with the install.
Its happened to me several titmes. Seems to be related to installing apks that play media files. Or maybe im just stupid and should quit messing with my device. Shrug.
Here's a method that has never let me down.
1. Backup youtube.apk using titanium backup. (Doesn't matter if youtube currently doesn't work.)
2. Reinstall ONLY the .apk from backup. Do not restore data!
Voila, now youtube works again.
You can just restore next time it acts fonky.

I have no idea what "signed" YouTube app is, I use 'HQ YouTube' app as per discovery by one Roy Aguilera for EVO (see my blog fineoils.blogspot.com, down below, as it was posted on January 3). Later on, that discovery was observed working on Droids, so I tried it on my NookColor. Works fine for every YouTube HD 1080p movie/clip you can find there. Didn't work for my Pandigital Novel though (lol), as obviously its hardware overlay remains completely broken -- even on its CM6 beta.
HQ YouTube is reported as stopped working in Froyo though. I suspect "Stagefright" is the culprit, so anyone may try to play with it as I propose in my blog. This tweaking might even help to validate Nookie Froyo for Flash 10.1 -- who knows? I didn't try NF yet, and hopefully never will, as I consider A2.2 a mere bugfix job for A2.1 leaving too many bugs untouched for TI OMAP36xx (quite old) platform and adding "features" (like "Stagefright") to be fixed at A2.3.x level.
You could look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10648931&postcount=8 - worked for me.
I installed it just fine, I used TitaniumBackup to uninstall and then used the aforementioned apk to reinstall and it works fine. Now, I leave the application, and go back in ... same issue.
What is causing this break so that I dont have to do these steps every time I want to use YouTube?
Worked like a charm, thanks!
YouTube
the thing that works for me is to delete
/data/data/com.google.android.youtube/shared_prefs/youtube.xml
I use root explorer to delete file.
next time you restart youtube you just have to accept the eula.
Follow these steps to get Hulu Plus working:
1. Delete any copy of Hulu Plus from your phone.
2. Download the file from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19377222&postcount=7
3. Extract the 3 files into your TitaniumBackup folder.
4. Restore Hulu Plus from Titanium Backup using App+Data.
Thank derek4484 for providing the files since Rootzwiki did not host it anymore and thank him in his post too.
Note: In order to use Hulu Plus, disable ad blocking using AdFree or any other similar app.
This would complete the Captivate
any updates? Anyone found a workaround to get hulu plus app to work on the captivate?
Sheb
This needs to be done already
If you are rooted just find a titanium back up of the app ( it is somewhere in this forum) and back it up. Worked for me and I do believe it is the only work around. The hulu app checks for compatibility in a different manner then Netflix did. Netflix was easy to fool
Do you mind attaching the TiBu backup for the Hulu Plus app since it doesn't seem to be available on Rootzwiki anymore.
I found the Hulu Plus backup and restored it with titanium backup, but it still didnt work. As soon as I started Hulu plus a big red/white error window popped up and said device not supported.
Edit: OK I only restored App from Titanium Backup. Once I restored App+Data it works great.
Just extract the three files within this to your titanium backup folder on the SD card, go into titanium backup and restore app+data. Should work.

Nice!!! I just tried this out and it works great. I havent found any bugs yet but will update if I do. Finally Hulu Plus for Captivate!
Edit: Ok I have a bad wireless and 3g connection at my house but after the advertisement loads I can't get the video to play even when adjusted to low quality. It says your network appears to have problems. Let me know if its working for you and I'll try again on my campus wireless tomorrow and when I have better 3g service.

Worked!!! Awesome! Tx.:d
Can either of you all confirm that you are able to stream video? I still can't get past the advertisement screen.

This is probably because you are blocking ads via your /etc/hosts file. If you are using any non-stock ROM this is probably true. This interferes with Hulu's ads and prevents it from continuing. If you download and install the "AdFree" from the market then use it to revert to the non-blocking hosts file, then Hulu should work. When you are done watching, you can run AdFree again to reblock ads (if you want).
I've been using ad free and trying to revert my host file but I still can't get past the ad screen. Any way I can do this manually or other possible solutions?
Sent from my Samsung Captivate running Andromeda³
Well, you can look at the file /etc/hosts, if it has been successfully reverted then it should just be one line:
127.0.0.1 localhost
You can probably do this manually if you use root explorer (or equivalent) to make the file writable.
This works for me great with WiFi, but hit and miss on 3G, depending on signal strength.

Please can someone help me with this issue?! My sister have a Samsung Vibrant and after one whole night, I finally rooted her phone with Superoneclick just to help her install Hulu Plus on it. I got the app working but like so many others, I am stuck on the buffering screen!
I've tried the AdFree method of reverting my host file, rebooted, but still no go. I've tried uninstalling AdFree, rebooting. No go. I've tried booting into recovery mode to clear cache but no go. I've installed ES File Explorer to manually view my Host file and it is empty except for the 127.0.0.1 line. I am literally pulling my hair out.
Is there any other way to unblock ads on the phone to get Hulu Plus working? Is there like some sort of secret cache that I'm suppose to clear using a secret utility I don't know of? Please I need help!
I was never able to get it working on my phone either. I'm convinced it won't work on froyo based roms. I get the same issue with it never being able to get past the buffering screen even with a clean host file. If you are ever able to get it to work on a 2.2 ROM let me know.

Before I even begin, I was a nub didn't know much about rooting and did it anyways. I suppose I have learned it the hard way and now I must pay.
I rooted my phone and everything went fine.
Before knowing much about Titanium Backup Pro I instead of "freezing" application I have accidentally deleted some apps that I shouldn't have.
When I say my phone is messed up I don't mean not "operational"
I can still use it for day to day but for instant.
I deleted backup manager and now I can't even restore my backups from verizon online.
I also when I try to call somebody from my contacts list I get this error
The application Contacts Storage (process com.motorola.contacts) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
I have random errors like that all the time.
I have unrooted and did a factory reset but to no avail.
Is there anything out there that could help get my phone back to the way it was when I received it?
I know its my fault for not learning but there must be something out there
Any help is appreciated.

There is no backup unless you made a backup.

Ok here is what I do. Let me know if I am doing ANYTHING wrong at all.
I load up root explorer and transfer my backupmanager.apk and .odex from ex-sdcard to /system/app
then I change the permission to r/w
press and hold the file and go to permission. There I set Owner to Read/Write and Group, Others just have read privilages.
Hold the file again. Then I scroll to the bottom to change owner and group to 0 - root...

The program doesn't appear in my apps? Anything I did wrong?
First off, you are doing it correctly. However, I'm not sure if backup assistant is even an app you can launch from the drawer. You have to launch the "My Accounts" app. Second, you can check if it worked by going into titanium backup, and looking for the app. If the name of the app is in red, then you did it correctly.
Hey thanks for that reply! I have looked into it and like you said, it was there in red but now I can't find the my accounts app all I can find is the my verizon wireless app and our doesn't have any backup functions from what I can tell.
Let me ask you this since you seen to be pretty knowledgeable. I have all the apps on my computer from that file above! Would I be able to just copy paste them with root explorer to /system/apps and then do a system factory restore would that work? Or do I have to manually find the apps I stupidly deleted and do it one by I've like I have been?

If you can't find the app, just go into Settings>Accounts.
As for your question: Unfortunately, it's not that easy (I would know, that's one of the first things I tried when I was fixing that contacts bug ). You would have to set the permissions and owners for every apk and odex file from the system dump. However, that contacts bug should've been fixed if you reinstalled those yahoo apps the same way you reinstalled the backup assistant.
Btw, you do know that backup assistant is pretty pointless since all of your contacts are synced with your Google account, right? People have reported no problems when removing the backup assistant app.
And thanks! I'm no android guru like many others here; just trying to help others with a similar problem that had me stumped for a good hour.
Thanks again. I've located the app but it still gives me troubles and not bein able to sync with the online server please call *811 or something like that. The only reason why I care its because I actually did backup all my contacts to the backup client but couldn't get them back on the phone now! I figured it out last night with syncing to gmail and it worked but still trying to get it back to normal. I will just have to do the rest manually haha! Appreciate it a lot!

I got that error message even without root with all of the system apps in place. Backup Assistant is just a poorly-coded app.
I'm pretty sure you didn't do much damage to your phone. I mean, as long as you didn't remove any other authenticators or other apps that blur needs in order for it to function, you should be fine just reinstalling the yahoo apps I told you about. After all, that looks like it's the only error you're getting.
And no problem.
Alright so now I need urgent help!
I went through the entire applications that I was missing and I gave them all permission etc. Rebooted my device and now I am stuck in this screen.
It's an endless loop because I get the error message and can't exit out of it.
Anything that can be done at all?
Haha, oh wow. I knew I wasn't the only one with that problem. Accounts loved to crash on me whenever I reset my phone. You can fix this one of two ways: hold the search button on your phone until it launches voice search. Say anything; as long as it launches the browser, you'll be fine. Once the search is performed, search for an apk for another home launcher. The accounts app basically hijacked your home button, so you'll need another launcher in order to get your home button back.
The second way involves using the desk dock. If you have one, then go into productivity mode. There should be an app drawer there. Open up the market, and install the launcher of your choice.
Once again, I had this problem even before root, so I'm not sure what the cause for this was.

I don't know what I would do without you lol... I was searching google like wild for droid 3 recovery but there is literally NOTHING out there.
Also let me ask you this. If I do a factory reset. Do I have to re-do the whole application proccess to give them permissions or should they be right now
Once it's a system app, it will always be a system app, even after resetting the phone. You should be fine.

So I tried doing the factory reset. Everything went smooth and I was hoping that my phone would be back to the old phone.
I am at the Welcome to DROID 3 screen. Tap on the little green guy, get to the motorola screen from before and same damn error. Except this time, I can't even try to use the voice or search buttons, none of them work.....
What now? I feel so stupid right now
