[Q] Lagging experiences - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone
I'm a Captivate (Galaxy S) user and I'm planning to get a Note
One of the reasons is the lagging problem.
When the iPhone 4 still has a fluid experience, my Captivate lags so much that I hate using it !!
So, does the note has such problems at all. I mean in all aspects. The OS itself, the apps, running or switching them .

I own a Galaxy S, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note and a Galaxy Tab 10.1. You don't experience lags on the S2 nor the Note. Only S and Tab lags.
You can get the Note without any worries.

Never had any Lag on the Note, neither on 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 KKA. Best device I every spent my hard earned money. Enjoying it a little bit more each day.

Touchwiz is kinda laggy to be honest, but I'm using rocketrom v8 at 1.2ghz and it's great

To be honest the stock rom with Touchwiz is laggy to me, but more because it contains so much bloat also. I use one of the lite rom with third party launcher and it feels very fast.

Thanks everybody for sharing.
It really upset me to see superior devices with such issues!
How about installing too many apps? Would it slow the Note
I'm really worry about spending ~$700 and get a non-fluid experience.

[Q] Froyo TAB vs Froyo Galaxy S

The Tab running froyo looks silky smooth. 435MB available RAM.
Is there any reason not to expect the same kind of performance on Galaxy S?
it is all about MONEY
I was thinking the same thing, they appear to have the same specs, so perhaps we can expect similar performance!
Mmmm I think looking at tab will be interesting... As it pushes more pixels more smoothly on the same or similar hardware

phone lagging?

Awesome phone but the phone is bit laggy.. anyone else facing the same problem or is it just me?
No lag for me, super smooth
I have loads of apps too
I would say its a little laggy, but anyone who comes from a Galaxy s2, like me, will say its a bit laggy. But it will get better with future updates, that I am sure of.
After doing a quick comparison today between three units, I can say the 1st two were super silky smooth whereas the 3rd demo unit (cheapest) was laggy; probably it had to much happening in the background. Ice Cream Sandwich should address this.

I recommend the V6 Supercharger script. Seemed to help for me. I'm running Sheep ROM.

It is pretty much accepted that the more's release rom, much like the galaxy s2's original rom, is laggy. It is also generally believed that like the s2, Samsung will work out all the kinks and get the note as snappy as the s2.
We will see what happens. It's not that laggy though, and its hard to notice unless you compare it directly with an s2.
So far for me lag only happens on using different launchers. Other than thy he phone is zippy as hell. Currently on XXKK9, Socrates only complains is occassional bad call quality complain from certain people I call. Some say it's great some not so.

I find the note to be very very fast.
There is some subtle studdering, when browsing, and I see no reason that wont get cleaned up on an update.
This device rocks!

It's laggy compare to my old phone, HTC Inspire which is single core,1.Ghz. I don't get it
Lag is the only thing I am not happy with Note.
For first few days it was super smooth but now i can witness some lagging.

Good advice. Just installed V6 9 RC4 with Nitro Lag Nullifier on Sheep ROM. Smoother + improvement in all synthetic benchmarks. Looks good so far. Thanks!
More tips for people complaining about lag:
- get some KK9/KKA ROM
- change CPU governor from ondemand to interactive.

i see that too
phone lagging
when you click on the msg app & phone app it takes some time to open?
i was using sgs2 before i never had this issue
hi guys,
how long does your Note needs to wake-up?
mine needs about 1,5-2sec
i go back and fourth between the Note and the S2 running the exact same setup and S2 is noticeably quicker

[Q] GN very laggy compared to S2??

Hi,
I just bought a Note to replace my S2.
Before shelling out the money and signing a 2 year contract I read tons of reviews and opinions here on xda.
The general consensus was that the Note is as snappy as the S2.
My personal experiences sadly cannot confirm this...
My Note is VERY laggy .. it behaves worse than my ancient Galaxy S1 ...
I am on 2.3.6 KKA stock.
Has someone any idea what to do?
Is there any decent custom rom out there which can bring back the snappy experience of the S2?
P.S.
On s2 I used to use the MIUI ROM
P.P.S.
Custom launchers are working terribly on the Note. Tried ADW and Launcher Pro. Had to give up because it were unusable.
Its not Note issue but Samsung's filmwares.Im sure the next updates will blow up our monster.
Try latest filmware XXKL3 and you will notice improvment on your Note.
Plus with KL3 the third part launchers not lug at all (not perfect but closed.Im using zeam laucher which is perfect not lugs)
So dont worry my friend...Be patient...
Devs working hard but its very early for good custom rom like sgii...
Very strange, I had a Galaxy S2 prior to my Note.
The Note is just as smooth as the S2.
I also had a Galaxy S 4G T959 "S1" prior , and of course the S2 and Note blows it away in term of smoothness. Might be some kind of software or hardware related issues with yours?
I don't know what to tell ya...
I have a rooted Note running the stock ROM (KJ4), and it's just fine!
No slowdowns here.
I wouldn't say that Note is laggy. It's fast but the user interface experience is choppy. It's the sheer number of pixels to push + not hardware-accelerated UI (and Android-specific UI problems). I would expect it to get better, especially with ICS. For now - a little OC + KL3 soft + stay away from 3D effects in launchers.
Laggy keyboard?
The Samsung keyboard seems to cache a lot of data, Try going into app manager and clearing Samsung keyboard cache. Worked for me. Then I also just switched to another keyboard - Swiftkey X because I wasn't using the handwriting too much in S keyboard mode. And I didn't like the AI predictions too much.
I still use S memo and S Planner and Kies Air and they all work great.
Currently no lag for me.
I came from a LG G2X running CM7 nightly #201, which was awesome by the way, and the GNote is comparable.
Current Devices:
Galaxy Note, LG G2X CM7 (Nightly #201 + GPS mod), HTC My touch 3G slide CM7 (back-up, back-up phone)
Past Devices. Most recent first:
HTC Touch Pro (great phone), HTC Apache, Audiovox Thera (lovable weirdness), HTC XV6600 (what a phone!), Kyocera 6035 (those were the days)
i was about to buy it too .. but i didn't cuz of these comments saying it's slower than the S2
any one have both devices can tell us the truth ?
A totally stock Samsung Galaxy S2 is always smooth, fluid and responsive, however the Note in stock form, which is supposed to be faster, has a clear but ever so slight input lag. On the Note I think Samsung's touchwiz UI performs better than any other third party launcher. However with the latest KL3 ROM overall performance is much improved regardless of launcher. So i swapped from touchwiz to adw soon after reflashing because I cant stand touchwiz.
It helps to reduce the cache and memory usage settings on any custom launchers that should help a bit. I'm sure its just a firmware issue and once they mature a bit this phone will be even more awesome than it is now. I honestly don't have any regrets and for anyone who is still on the fence, go for it. You will love it after a few simple customizations.
Stock Note is a bit slow for me, I use Romow Lite rom which is very fast. Even Market works (have issues with some other roms), and cifs and tun modules for OpenVPN. Only issue with the rom is AccountsandSync settings isn't install and failed to install (the feature works, you can log in, but there isn't a GUI to turn it off). So I use QuickSettings which can turn off syncing. I'm using Launcher Pro with it and its very smooth.
Thanks folks,
Should try some custom ROMS.... I wanted to wait a week or two to be sure that there are no hardware issues (it is troublesome to send it back on warranty with custom fw) and after that to root it.
Which custom rom do you prefer? I like miui very much but there isn't any port to Note till now ...
I also think the Galaxy Note is quite laggy. I tried the GS2 in the store and it is definitely smoother than the Note. And I can also confirm that the 3rd party launchers are surprisingly choppy on the Note. I ran some of those same launchers on my Android HD2 and got very, very good performance. Especially LauncherPro. It's perfectly smooth on the the old HD2 Android. I would probably have stuck with GoLauncher on the Note but it is terribly and perfectly choppy. My version is KKA.
My Note runs fine so far. I found it quite fast and snappy. Have not downloaded many applications as of yet but will add more soon. The ones I do have downloaded work ok so far.
One thing that is obvious is how much faster applications work on the iPhone compared to Android. As an example try downloading the Bloomberg applications and compare section and stories downloads time. The iPhone is about 3-4 times faster than the average Android device out including my new Samsung Note.
Just wanted to say that while Cassies KL3 mod is a good improvement, it's much better paired up with AbyssNote 2.3 kernel and the CPU clocked to 1.6Ghz. Now it really flies. Battery life also seems improved with this kernel but its still early days.
For those who think third party launcher is laggy, try Spare Parts +. Turn the animations to fast.

Try rocket ROM, it's the best I tested till now.
Smoothest and best battery life.

[Q] Purchasing Question

currently i don't owned GALAXY S i9000 yet, does anybody knows that it is worth to buy GALAXY S I9000?
PS:Currently i have GALAXY GIO gt-S5660
I think SGS1 is no longer offered in the market by Telcos, so I'm assuming you're buying a used SGS1. IMO as long as you're sure the unit is still 100% working without any defect, it is worth buying. There are so many Rom & kernel development on SGS1 that make the unit feel like it is still brand new.
But of course compared to SGS2 &3, SGS1 is slower and with limited RAM (only 512MB). That's the downside of it.

thanks but i won't gonna buy new GALAXY S cuz its expensive for me in brand new, just a used GALAXY S. SGS3/SGSII are insane for their prices so i won't gonna purchase them.
I forgot to mention that with the new
Roms being released lately, SGS1 is increasingly becoming very fast in addition to it's being smooth and stable. So i honestly think it's still worth buying if you currently do not have the budget for a better phone like SGS2 & 3.
But of course, ultimately you are the one who will decide.
These are just my honest opinions.
imo - of the used phones in this pricerange - the i9000 is the best value: good screen, lightweight, great custom roms.
what about CM9 and CM10.1 on GALAXY S.does it full functionalling just like camcorder, camera, wifi, games etc?
Yes functioning fully. But i can only answer for CM10.1... I didn't use CM9.

Thanks but what about GALAXY S camera's night mode, does its better?
cuz somehow i read that GALAXY S has better night mode than Led flash.
No, because there is no LED flash, using camera at night using SGS1 produces very bad quality pictures & videos.
It is recommeded to use the camera only at daytime.
Thanks,just a one more thing,should i buy GALAXY S plus or Galaxy S ?
cuz they boths are cheap in used price
You can search at internet the specs of both phones.
I think S+ is better because it has a faster processor 1.4Ghz compared to S which is only 1Ghz.
Another important factor is the internal SD size. Bigger is better. Maybe you can check in actual both phones while negotiating with the seller.
Device: GT-i9000
Rom: JB 4.2.1 Xylon

Kernel: Mackay 0.243
yeah i checked.but confused about their specifications
- Galaxy s+ has better processor speed but its GPU chip is not such a better than GALAXY S GPU
- GALAXY S has a Hummingbird processor which is better while GALAXY S+ has adreno 205 processor which is an kinda ordinary for gaming
- Somewhere i read that galaxy s+ has more smoother ics running than galaxy s
S i9000
Hi.. i would sugest u i9000 (galaxy S)... i was once a galaxy y user.. just bought i9000 two months before.. it has gud development than any other S series.. when i bought S+ was cheaper than S... i bought S because of it has good development.. and i am currently using Slimbean 3.1(Andoid 4.1.2) its awesome smooth!!

And galaxy s plus is overclockable to 1.8ghz. If you are not gonna use it much for gaming go for s+. If gaming is a must for you, you can go with s.
BTW, s+ isn't that bad with gaming, of course with custom ROMs. I can play mc4 smoothly.

[Q] Exchanging SII with NOTE __ Worth it?

Hi there!
Have been using SII for about a year and a half now.
I don't know how but recently i have got tired of this 4 inchy and
really want a bigger screen.
And I'm getting an offer to exchange it with galaxy note. On paper galaxy note seems
ted powerful and with a better display as well.
But what I'm really concerned about is the real life difference in performance. I have heard from some
friends that NOTE is actually on a bit slower side than SII.
Would love to hear from guys who have used both the phones and please suggest should I go for the exchange.
Thanks.

It's barely noticeable slower. Specially in screens transitions and scrolling through lists that have images.
Maybe because of the higher resolution of the screen.
But in my opinion totally worth the upgrade
The bigger screen makes watching videos and playing games an amazing experience
Total worth the upgrade mate.
Go ahead and do it. Good luck

Thats what I'm really concerned about. The reslotion of the galaxy note is almost 70 to 80 percent more than galaxy SII.
Theoretically that should mean galaxy note require around 1.8 to 2 Ghz dual core processor if I'm right to perform as snappier as galaxy SII.
And that's why there's a lag in UI and general use I guess.
I really like the s pen and the screen size.
But I do feel HD resolution is too much of an asking for a dual core.
Please correct and guide me if I'm wrong.
Waiting for your comments eagerly.
As far as I know, the pixels are "moved around" by the GPU , not the CPU.
So the processor has nothing to do with the lag.

The pixels are rendered by the GPU, not the CPU, but yes, they are also the same, and it's the reason for the difference.
It can get pretty smooth tough. Don't worry about performance. You won't have any trouble

Got Note finally. And after a month of use I don't think I would look back. Cheers.
Yes, the note is slower than s2. I also can't use android 4.1.2 as it's extremely laggy (this may happen only with my note).
The phones screen size makes it impossible to comfortably use this phone with one hand, so You mostly have to use both of Your hands.
If You're aiming for a bigger screen or for the spen's precision I would definitely recommend You this phone.
I must say I wouldn't go back to s2,as the spen is very important for me.
What do You want from this phone?

I really like the spen. But the lag problem is an issue with me too. I flashed indian version first and a few days back
I flashed the Uk xxlt9 firmware(obviously aftera full wipe). But I dont see much difference in those 2 versions. I guess jelly bean
is really too much for this phone(atleast stock one). I tried cyanogenmod too but I really missed the neat built in features of the spen so I
moved back to stock jelly bean. But its really annoying when a 200 dollar phone beats it in benchmarks and general use. Or may be I'm
expecting too much off this device.
After a month or so of use.. This is what I feel-
Stock jelly bean- Battery life is good(as long as u keep the screen off )
Typing and general UI is way too laggy.
Touchwiz is beautiful ( I know am the only one but I really like the design and transitions)
Spen is nicely integrated and snote is nicely designed. I use it a lot personally (only after it opens a decade to open)
Cyanogenmod 10.3 nightlies- Fluid and really usable. Sleek.
Flat and boring untill you dont use a theme.
Camera not at par with stock jb.
Huh.. A lot of writing i guess. These were my observations. But what I really want is stock experience with cyanogenmod like speed.
Is there anyone who's in same sort of situation like me.

Finally someone that has the same problem with JB.
Man, I usually have 120-150 apps installed (I have to have them) and any JB ROM is UNUSABLE for me. Even stock JB laggs, after restoring my apps it's....agh If the phone wasn't so expensive I would throw it against the wall. Why did JB work on SGS2 like a charm and on the Note it sucks so much?
That's why I had to use ICS. It doesn't have the Spen hovering & scrolling features (which I really miss ) , but it's fast and almost lag free.
However CM10.2 is the fastest I've used so far. I'm really astonished, it's a beta ROM and it's way better than official one (WTF?).
I bought this phone for the Spen and that's why I'm using it a lot. I only hope that the Spen won't start to fell out of the phone as it's getting easier to take it out.
I think I will never switch from the note series, as the spen is veeery important for me (well, maybe when there will be some other phone with thin stylus )

Yeah, give me too hehe.
I would like to see all those hovering etc. stuff. Maybe it will be possible if official 4.3 comes out to note 2 and then it will be ported to our note.
But I don't think so
And the throwing part.. I feel exactly like you.. Lost brothers? Lol
I dont see 4.3 coming to this lovely device anytime soon. But the main point here shouldn't be just running after the latest android version. It should be making the current firmware as best as it can be. How come GB and ICS be faster than JB, no one knows except samsung or god. Lol

Ok, the older android versions don't require so good specs, but there shouldn't be such a big difference between ics and jb. I hope the notes 2 official android 4.3 will be ported to our old note 1.
