"GLONASS" analogue "GPS" ,but a more accurate...

its coming in near future..
qualcomm just signed the agreement...
also for it networks operators must support it...
it will be available soon by updates or patch fixes by devs anyhow if qualcomm don't rolls out it for existing devices.. so need to worry

GPS is from US
GLONASS is from russia
GLONASS and GPS augments each other giving you more available satellites to help you obtain your location, that the reason you have a shorter lock-in period compared to a single system only.
if you have glonass + gps capable device you have now a faster and more accurate positioning.

+1.
For only GPS the accuracy will be more than 10 meters (except for US military). Galileo can take 2 to 1 meter accuracy. Gps + Glonass can take 2 meters accuracy.
Here is my 2 meters accuracy by this phone.

Hey good work.
I can get 6 m at best as accuracy. Do you get a lock indoors not near any window? I have read somewhere that if you hit sat no 65 to 88, then you have glonass enabled and from what i see gps test is not getting any glonass sats.

It couldbe because of glonass Or Agps, i'm not sure. My phone always online. Using agps should increase accuracy also.
I always can get 2 meters accuracy only if the sky is clear enough. For indoor it depend on the material above us, it can lock or not.
One more thing... you should make sure for the agps server in your gps.conf to be setted to the server in your region, so it can minimize time deviation between gps module time and satellite clock time. You know the satellite send "ping", satpos and time, the module will calculate the "ping" travel time to distance, from several sats then whala... get the location.

the region of coverage of GLONASS is at upper northen hemisphere & lower southern but not good near equator due to inclination of sats.

Thanks for your usefull information.
From the picture, it get glonass sats but it hasn't locked yet, no valid location and accuracy.
So for us who live in Indonesia definitely will hard to get glonass signal... to bad. So who live in India, Australia and US should be easier to get it. Some one can confirm?

yes it might not work in southern east asian region, but still to be used by other, it needs to be patched (soft. layer)
.65 xperia phones update includes it, still m tryin to find out the code
we report back if i suspect something

Our phone has the same chipset as yours, and should theoreticaly support GLONASS.
But i live in southestern Brazil (about 47° south) and i can't find any glonass sattelites (65~88)
Is anyone still interrested on this "hack" to enable by default the use of both kinds of sattelites?

Rogers Ottawa LTE speeds

I'm in Ottawa and my speeds are a little wacky. The first night I had LTE service I hit 40mbps, bit now its steady around 16-18 or so.
Should i expect my most recent tests or should i be looking for higher than that?

Were in Ottawa are you? Im in Kanata and have yet to see lte speeds. im in an ongoing battle with rogers to get lte here. they told me were there towers were in Kanata i went there and nada. i know hunt club and merivale is a strong signal as is baseline and woodroff were their flagship store is. I have gotten decent speeds here and there but i dont believe there network is even half functional. i bought my phone in Toronto in oct and the lte speeds were pretty consistent and coverage was fairly accurate in terms of their coverage map.
First they said my device was defective even though it worked fine in Toronto. So i bought a sierra wireless lte modem and had the same results to prove to them it wasnt a device issue. then i drove to there towers with google maps on my screen to show them my position and the fact that my phone was in edge and sometime 3g at best and emailed rogers tech support pics as well.
There supposed to send a tech out again tomorow but at this point im not very optimistic.
As you can see in the pic when lte works its great the speeds there are from toronto and 2 are from ottawa, just not anywhere near me lol, other pics are of my position less than 100 meters from the towers and you can see the network its on 4g if lucky otherwise edge (tower is corner of campeau and teron other one is castlefrank and 417)
Also do you have issues with the phone when it tries to switch between 4g and lte?
I live in sandy hill and work downtown. I hit 4g downtown but 90% of the time I'm on LTE at home which is pointless as I have WiFi.
Sent from my HTC-X710a using XDA App
i haven't really noticed anything when they switch, but i'm not really aware of when it does.
what i have noticed is that when i'm on LTE my signal kinda dwindles, but its not unusable. its actually more functional than with full strength on 4g.
So I figured out why I was getting such low speeds on my tests. I was running off a Montreal server so it was skewing my results.
After using the Ottawa server my results improved drastically. The top 3 are after I switched to the Ottawa network.
I am impress.
LTE for the win.

Sent from my HTC-X710a using XDA App
Im in the same boat, for some reason speedtest and alot of other cell signal apps put me in montreal as my location when trying to figure out my location via cell signal. funny thing is it only happens when in lte, wonder if this is some sort of bug? when i change it to ottawa speed def picks up.
Also rogers is having issues with their lte they gave me 50%off my bill for 6 months so i pay 25$ for 10 gb and 25$ for my north america unlimited plan, may be worth calling in for you as well
AT&T LTE is about on par with your LTE speeds, cept I haven't managed to get more then 2 bars on LTE.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
I haven't noticed any signal loss or poor call quality so overall I'm impressed so far, other than it nit picking up my LTE in downtown Ottawa. Maybe I'll call rogers after all haha
Sent from my HTC-X710a using XDA App
I've found online that there's a setting the mobile network section to set it to LTE auto. After turning that on I haven't had an issue with my LTE network signal other than it dropping in my office building, but even then it still manages to pump out 15-20meg or so.

Because the Samsung made Galaxy Nexus has better access to all the stars in the galaxy allowing it to pinpoint it's location with a higher degree of certainty in regard to it's position relative to the location of other stars in the galaxy.

Hate to burst your bubble, but my $100 Galaxy S Vibrant have better signal than both of your Nexus devices. But seriously, I wouldn't mind seeing results by other Nexus 4 owners. I am more concerned about lock time and the ability to keep a signal while on the the highway.
I didn't use any test apps or anything like that, but in a normal tracking situation - going about 5km by bike - the nexus 4 did a much better job than the galaxy s2 I tried before.
Not only am I getting a gps fix in a matter of seconds, even inside buildings, but the recorded track is also a lot closer to the actual route I took.
Don't forget you also got glonass now, not sure if your tools are taking those into account

So apparently many people using the Nexus 5 are experiencing inaccurate GPS positions when on Device Only mode (using ONLY GPS, no WiFi or 3G). In order to investigate this issue further, and to find out whether or not this is a hardware issue, I would like you guys to report your findings in regards to GPS accuracy when using GPS only. Please note that I am not talking about how long it takes to get a fix but only the accuracy of that fix.

I haven't noticed a problem here. I will test more today. I did notice last week that it locks on to half the satellites that my S4 locks on to. It also reports slightly lower signal for each. However, the accuracy is the same or better than my S4 at 0-15 ft while the S4 is 10-30.

Having said that, my nexus 5 manages to pinpoint me to the exact room I'm in.

Hi! My Nexus sees and locks a lot of satellites, more than other phones that I had, and very fast, but... I've recorded a track in bike and the track isn't too accurate. Is not a big problem, I can live with it, but I'll hope a better result when I had 15 satellites locked and 3m of precision...
Try it with location set to device only next time.
This is the first phone that was able to get GPS lock inside the building at work (from cold boot no less!). Nexus 4 could not along with the Galaxy Note I (both had GPS and GNSS support).
I've seen the error go down to a few metres sometimes.
Mine is good with GPS only on, fast and accurate locks. Haven't tried navigating more than half an hour on it through.

Glonass is a worldwide network of satellites, the same as GPS. You can access it anywhere.
Unless you somehow mean that you're not permitted to use it in those countries, in which case I would like a link to somewhere that says that, as I'm unable to find information on any such restrictions.

I already asked this, but can you link to somewhere that specifically says Austria and Germany don't have access and explains why? Purely because I'm interested.
It would be surprising if they produced a model without the necessary hardware just for those 2 countries.
Edit - I had a play around and I initially didn't have Glonass satellites when getting a lock. I hadn't actually checked before and just assumed it worked as the Snapdragon S4 Pro definitely has the capability.
You can see on the map view with GPS test if you have Glonass satellites available. They show as triangles.
I used Faster GPS (requires root) to set the correct region and ntp server and then had Glonass satellites available. Might be worth trying that to see if it helps you.

I think the GLONASS receiver is only activated in situations where it's not possible to get a lock with GPS alone.
The Sony site I linked to before has this to say -
To save power, the GLONASS receiver is only activated in problematic locations, such as in an urban environment with high rise buildings. Therefore, if you are in an open sky environment where there are enough GPS satellites available to calculate a good accuracy position, GLONASS will automatically be switched off temporarily to enhance the battery lifetime.

It was looking to me like it doesn't cause most apps only show the gps ones and in settings only is a setting for gps... What use to mean both modes in one function... I think..
However, it is not changing the modes (gps or glonass), but take by bad connection some of both the same time...

Maybe L5 is not transmitting in your region?
I heard only 30 satellites are currently transmitting L5 band, they might only cover U.S. or might even be part of it still in testing phase therefore is not working.
Phones with L1 and without L5 got ~3m.
Phones with L1 and L5 got >10m.
Now think about that...
tested Mi8 in Vietnam today with S9+.
S9+ got 3m
Mi8 got 16m
test with some GPS app maybe L5 is not actived yet or the phone cant use its profit for now
Dude, you S9+ don't got L5 and "score" better, than the device with L1 and L5. Even when L5 is not working, it need to be 3m.
This one is an interesting article : https://medium.com/@sjbarbeau/dual-frequency-gnss-on-android-devices-152b8826e1c
If the mi 8 still doesn't have stable gps I might have to pass up on this phone
Anyone tried the gps on miui 10?

So mi 8 is actually more accurate than mi 6.
How many meters is the accuracy in the gpstest app?

16, about how much the Mi6 is off.
edit: iPhone 8 is as off as Mi6, but on the other side of the building. iPhone 6s got the same result.

Here you go
Real accuracy
Someone with Xiaomi mi 8 can install a geodetic application like Hi-Q set it to your coordinate system, go to a geodetic point with known coordinates, measure it and compare the coordinates and tell the results. These accuracy apps don't show real accuracy !!!

Phones with L1 and without L5 got ~3m.
Phones with L1 and L5 got >10m.

How can it be possible?
Many reviews show this phone has a very bad accuracy, at least outside China.

Fix GPS and Google Maps shows the street on the other side, which is useless in other words.

This is Xiaomi 2018. Remove IR, no IP, smaller battery, lying (AnTuTu over 300k nobody scores), bad mic, remove second speaker...

Don't waste any energy on that guy. It's all negative if it's not Huawei, don't know what he does outside Huawei-forums except being annoying and spreading cr*p.
