Any way to migrate music data from internal memory to external? - Motorola Droid 3

So I have stored a lot of music using the default google music app and its gone to the internal data and I just received a memory card and want to change the musics' storage location to the new card but the only option I can find is to change the location of saving for when using Windows Media Sync. Is there any way to move the music and have the music app recognize the new location? I am rooted btw

Use a file manager like Astro, and copy and paste the folder?
Sent from my XT862 using XDA App

If nothing else works, connect your phone to your computer for mass usb storage. On PCs it may not recognize both sd cards, but on my Mac it does, and I simply transfer things from one disk to the other that way. Got any friends with Linux or Mac?

This is the method that puts it where you want it to be.
The next step I go to is to tell any program that I am going to use to save files to use /sdcard-ext/-insert your folder here- so my files go where I want them to.

If you have lots of files, it is better to do it through usb connection. Otherwise, app like Astro file manager is the way to go.

Soft Data Cable from Market

Soft Data Cable from the Market is an awesome app to wirelessly tether your phone to your computer without mounting the SD card to the Computer. It's simple and easy to use and makes a great way to get rid of tethering to transfer, music, movies, files, or anything else you need to get back and forth. Create a shortcut on your desktop to the FTP address for one click access on the computer as well as the phone!
Ill give it a try.

...but it isn't compatible with wifi tethering apps (which is my only source of internet).

tried it out and works great. you can even browse in the root directory if you enable that option. my only problem was finding it in the market because it is listed as software data cable.
Sorry to bump, does this require, and will it work on a Transform?

Lost all files on /sdcard when transfering files from PC

I just tried to transfer files from my PC (Win7) via USB MTP onto my Nexus7 which seemed to work as usual. When I tried to locate them on the tablet, I noticed that the complete /sdcard folder is still there, but empty. Also the /storage/sdcard0 and /storage/emulated.
This actually happend the second time, but the first time I just had updated to 4.2.1 and I thought I must've missed some instructions about backing up the files first, so I (falsely) assumed it was my error.
The device is the 16gb wifi only version running current android 4.2, it's been rooted after purchase in summer using Nexus Root Toolkit 1.5.3. I just use the usual popular play store apps like nova launcher, total commander, firefox and stuff, nothing special.
I couldn't find anyone on the internet with a similar issue, so I put this here.
//edit1: I have only one user set up: me alias the owner.
Hi have a look at your settings in multi user accounts. It hides them so others can not see them

I fail to see how that should affect why I don't "see" my files anymore. I haven't switched the user, I only have one: the owner. May you please make your point more clear?
You can alter where things are stored. Have you connected back to pc to search tab that way. Check storeage settings did you use ptp or mtp for transfer

I used MTP. The tablet looks empty from "within" via Totalcommander & EStrong Filemanager. Also other apps like music don't see my files. Storage shows suspiciously much free space, I guess it's really gone. From PC it looks the same, completely wiped. It recreated the /sdcard/Android-Folder, and the Apps I've used since recreated their folders... I can't find where you meant I could alter where things are stored. Storage just let's me delete stuff and users just let's me edit the away-message.
Thanks anyway so far.
Hi I use wifi file explorer. Try that to transfer your files and let me know how it goes. Its in the playstore/market

Multiple File References messing me up

So I have this strange problem that is causing my Ringtones not to work.
I go into settings >> sound >> and click to select the default ringtone.
In there some of my Ringtones are listed 3 times.
These are MP3's that I have on my Ext SDcard in a drirectory.
If when I am trying to select the ringtone, I select the first 2 of the 3 of any particular ringtone, the "preview" does not work at all. The 3rd version of the ringtone works with the preview but the phone won't work with it.
I select the thrid version and close settings and try to call my phone. Only vibration. I look back in the settings and the first entry is selected.
So I took out my ext sdcard and only 2 versions of the file name show up now and neither of those will play, preview, or work.
I downloaded Rescan Media Root and rescanned media but nothing gets rid of these Ghost entries.
Any ideas?
The built in phone ringtones are entered only once and they work.
Try removing the ext. sd card and rebooting the phone. Also while it is removed, go to settings and then applications and clear data of the Music Player app and Media Storage. You can find them under the "All" tab in applications manager.

Back them up to internal storage via, people>settings>manage contacts>export to SIM or mobile storage. Export then copy the vcf card file to your pc.

I always go the export to internal/sd route, as Google sync sorta sucks sometimes. The majority of the time, it works, buuuuuttttt I've probably added my step mothers number to my phone 20 times over the past year or so and it never syncs.

Set ExSD as main storage.

Is it possible to make your external SD card your main storage source when installing apps and downloadng files?

Unfortunately, nope. As far as I can tell, most of that will be fixed once we can root and install the SDFix, but until then...we're SOL. The most you can do right now is use the SD card as the main storage for the camera and music that you transfer to it. For apps, you're limited only to the apps that specifically comply to the new SD restrictions and even then all you can do is move most the app data.

Yeah, definitely sucks. I'm using doubleTwist as my music/podcast app and it won't let me use the SD card as my main storage. So now I have to go through the annoying task of manually moving the downloaded podcasts to my SD card. Not really that annoying, but it's just an extra step that I shouldn't need to do
