I'd hate to start a new thread just for this, but I can't seem to find any answers by searching. I made a cm7 bootable sd card for my mom a while back and all was working fine for a few months then all of a sudden it won't go past the android boot screen.
I tried reinstalling the cm7 image by just putting it on the sd card (the latest stable version from the cyanogen mod wiki 7.1.0. still the same thing. I suppose I can try reformatting the card and starting from scratch, but I want to try to keep all the apps and settings the way it was so she doesnt have to set everything up again. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have been trying for the past 3 days to return my N1 to the stock program. I have unlocked the phone and i was enjoying rooting for the past 8 months. I installed many different builds like Modaco, LeoGingerbread, Rodrigues MIUI, MicroMod Gingerbread and then Cyanogen Mod 7 (build 36), that is when it started to have tons of force close and the programs would stop running.
I always cleared the phone before i installed a new build.
I decided to return the phone back to the original factory settings and start fresh but it is giving me some problems.
I have used many different version of the PASSIMG files on XDA but i always get an issue with an Android program stopping unexpectedly.
At first it was the Settings that did not work, i fixed that.
Now it is the Calendar AND Market who keep force closing.
I have been trying for the past 3 days looking for a solution but i have come to the end of my patience.....
If ANYONE has a solution, i would love to hear from you.
Right now i am just thinking of getting a new phone but i love my Nexus 1
This is the first phone i ever rooted so my knowledge of rooting is limited to the 8 months of installing different builds. I never created a program or modified any.
Thanks

I am going to take a stab in the dark here...are you by chance using ClockWorkMod recovery? If so did you upgrade to 3.0.0.5? Assuming this is correct you are in the same boat as I was...your not going to like it but if you are first go back to 2.5.1.4 or older. Next you will need to format your entire SD card and repartition it, then do a restore. That should work. Hopefully you have backups of your SD card contents... If a restore doesn't work still then you may need to format and partition again and do a fresh install. I lost a lot of sleep the other night trying to figure out WTF happened. It seems that something it 3.0.0.5 changes the SD-EXT and cannot be repaired without a format. I was mad enough about the whole situation that I have ditched CWM and am now running RA.

I sis upgrade to the ClockWorkMod 3.0.0.7 and that is when the problem all started.
I downgraded to the 2.5.4 version and i was able to install the CyanogenMod 36 and then it really went all bad.
I was so frustrated that it was not working that i formated (and i did back it up) my SD card. Then i did what i said and i am still having issues.....
Where did you get and how did you install RA? I was used to the CWM and i really liked it until they upgraded to version 3.
Thanks
Look in Developer section.
Take your SD card out, reformat it in Windows, then put it back and repartition for EXT, if you're using old Apps2SD (/A2SD/Apps2EXT).
Wipe everything.
Install any ROM.
Enjoy.
I have been lurking and reading for a couple of weeks now. I bought a used NC with 1.1 and used Autonooter to root it. Works great.
I bought a second NC which had the 1.2 s/w on it. I used the manualnooter process to root it. That works pretty well.
Now I'm thinking about getting into the nightly CM7 game. I'm wondering is there anything I need to watch out for with the 2 NC's I have if I do this. Do I have to take them back to stock? Can I just follow the CM7 instructions?
Any insight and guidance would be appreciated
50 views and no replies. If you read this and can help I would really appreciate some info. I'm reluctant to proceed until I hear from someone who has traveled the road before. Thanks
You can run CM7, stable or nightly, off of an SD card. You don't have to change anything on your Nooks to do this. In fact, they don't even need to be rooted. Running CM7 on the SD card will not change anything on the built-in memory of the Nook.
Look for the "size agnostic" thread, follow the directions, and you're good to go.
ps. I enjoy your music.
yeah, just follow the instructions on flashing cm7 for the first time. and make sure you understand the CWM instructions. you may want to try a stable rom for now. there are lots of battery and kernel issues right now with the nightly builds. but not to fear the devs are working hard to fix them. just stay with the stable's and your be fine. I hope this was helpful...

Well, I went ahead figuring "How hard could it be anyway?".
I did the nand backup with CWM 3.0.2.8
I then ran ROM manager V4.2.0.2 from internal memory.
I choose the option that allows me to download ROMS.
I chose CyanogenMod, and then chose 7.0.3.
I downloaded the ROM
I then chose Install ROM from SD card
It asked me about clearing caches, etc and I chose the default values already checked.
It installed without errors.
I rebooted and it got to the last part of the boot process where the word "color" is rapidly changing and stayed there indefinitely,
I rebooted with CWM on the SD card and tried to reinstall the Manualnooter I loaded on this NC a week ago.
Rebooted. Still hung up.
I copied my nand backup to the CWN SD card and chose restore.
It booted back to my manualnooter install successfully.
So I'm successfully back where I started.
Can someone help me understand what I did wrong on what I need to do to make it work? Thanks
Not sure what went wrong, but I would also suggest trying verygreen's size-agnostic approach. You keep your manual nooter and can run CM7 from an SD card to see if you want to go all the way and remove the stock BN software.
Try this thread:

Or, if you want to go crazy, you could try racks' dual boot SD card image of Phiremod 6.2 (a variation of CM7) and Honeycomb. That's what I'm using and Phiremod works great (aside from battery life ) and honeycomb is just plain slick to use.

I loaded CM7 7.0.2 stable and was able to get it going. Thanks
I'm having a issue with both cyanogenmod and miui
i'm having external SD card issues with both.. with CM7 every time i put my sd card in it says that the damaged and wont let me do anything with it.. same goes for the offical miui, if i flash the miui from the dev forums its shows that i insent the sd card for a split second then goes away.. or some times says its blank..
If i stick the same SD card in a Vibrant (T-Mobile version of the SGS) that is running the offical version of miui it works fine.. if i flash the captivate back to stock (2.1) it works fine.. Oh i did also flash the latest nightly version on CM7 and it seemed to work fine.. but i really like to play with miui for a while.. i like alot of the things it has with it (theme browser/customizer, file browser, sms client, ect)
anyone have any idea how to go about fixing this?
I have two nook colors with cyanogenmod 7 on them
but one was never quite right and didnt have google apps on it.
I never really messed with it but today I thought I would fix it.
originally I wanted to upgrade to jellybean for fun since this is one I have just to mess around with.
But I wanted to roll it back to stock first.
All the directions I saw for that were quite old and none of the downloads worked.
I tried some one SD card and it didnt really work.
It wasnt connecting to wifi and clockwork mod wasnt working (rom manager was there but it said clockwork mod wasnt working and I couldnt update it because wifi wanst working).
I got all that sorted out
then I decided to try to upgrade to the latest CM from rom manager
but I would just give me download errors.
so I downloaded the file directly to my SD card from the clockwork mod website
I was able to boot into recovery and it backed up my nook
but when it tried to install the CM it said there was an error and aborted
not my nook when you power it up shows "touch the future of reading" then it goes to the "android_" (that pops up before the CM7 logo) and it just sits there
any thoughts on what to do?
Should I just make a bootable SD card with CM7?
(how can I do that...im pretty rusty on all this, I havent messed with it much in a year or two)

You are way out of date. If you want stock back, look in my tips thread linked in my signature. Look at item A15.
And ROM Manager is not really the way to update these days. If you want to put CM10 on internal memory, follow eyeballer's guide which he just updated. If you want to put CM10 on SD, follow my updated guide also linked in my signature.
Sent from my Nook HD+ Running CM10
I have been running MN 4-6-16a on NC software version 1.3 for over a year now. It's not totally stable (I get some freeze-ups occasionally & have to reboot) but it's workable. The other day, my wifi stopped working. Wifi goes off, and when I turn it on, it can't find my router, I get a black box that says 'unable to scan for networks', and it stops responding and the Nook asks me if I want to force close wifi. If I select 'wait' instead of force close, wifi shuts off.
Router works fine, other devices are connected. I have searched other threads, and it seems that some suggest installing CM7, though these suggestions are from a year ago.
Is there something more current I sould be running that would fix this problem. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated for this newbie.

The latest ROM for Nook Color is CM10 Jellybean 4.1.2 with a 3.08+ kernel. You can install it on a SD card and try it.If you like how it works you can install it internally. There are great tips threads you can utilize to help get you to the latest ROM. I use CM10 internally on my Nook Color. My other Nook Color has CM7.1 (gingerbread with 2.6.32 kernel). CM10 is running pretty smooth and just as fast as CM7.2.

Wow, that thread has 155 pages ... hard to get through all that .... I did read the first page, though
OK, so I should download CM10 latest nightly version & install ... I don't seem to have a way to back up my data or current ROM since I don't have an internet connection that works. Yes, I could install to SD, but I've read that there can weird problems with this? So I was going to jump right in to an internal install, but it looks like I will lose data for my apps. Is there any advantage to downloading CM7 instead of 10? I ask only because I found a good site with good (newbie) instructions on doing CM7, and the site I found for CM10 has some stuff that I don't completely understand.
Really, I don't have great aspirations for using my NC ... I just need wifi to work so I can access my apps, and that's the only reason I am looking at flashing a new ROM. Is this the only way to go to fix wifi?

For SD card cm10 installation (use Sandisk class 4 or 6)
Here is LeapinLar's thread to get you started http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941858
Get the latest CM10 nightly here http://get.cm/?device=encore
Make sure to use Gapps 20121011.
Here are the steps involved to make a bootable sd card:
Unzip the ...Rev5.zip
Use program Win32diskimager.exe to write the above unzipped image to SD card
Copy latest Cm10 nightly to sdcard (do not unzip)
Copy gapps 20121011 to SD card (do not unzip)
Safely eject SD card from computer
Backup your Nook apps/data to separate SD card or computer. If you have Clockwork Mod Recovery installed do a nandroid backup on sd
Turn off Nook Color
Insert SD card you created above
Turn on Nook color
Watch the Cm10 splash screen come to life.
Have you tried rebooting your Nook color to see if it can attach to your router?
CM7 is dated on gingerbread and 2.6.32 kernel. CM10 is Jellybean on 3.08+ kernel.
If you prefer rooted stock firmware 1.4.3 check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494901
Many thanks, hwong96! I followed the directions and got CM10 working on an sd and wifi works fine. I am going to take a look at upgrading the stock software and then rooting to see if I can get that working as well, as I prefer the B&N interface/look-and-feel. But in the meantime, at least I have a functioning tablet again. Thank you!
