Hey guys...seriously need your help,
I just got the note a month ago and i'm pretty amazed by it's capabilities. this is my first android phone and i'm kind of new to it. I hope i didn't make something dumb, yet i flashed my note with a .tar file just to add arabic language to it as it's not in by default. I follow the instructions explained on the webpage literally using Odin3. I got a passed flash and then disconnected the note as explained. since then it doesn't turn on. I tried almost everything using all kinds of button combinations to get to either download or recovery mode but nothing came out of the screen it's simply dead.....very disappointed, wish anyone could help me please....Thank you.
seems you have bricked your phone, if it does absolutely nothing it is bricked
Tried yanking out the battery and reseating?
Try getting Download mode with JIG
You may get JIG from market, or manually make with this guide

My Galaxy Note won't turn on too. The problem came after I was downloading a magazine from Zinio using the Reader's Hub app. Before I started the download, my battery level was almost empty. In the middle of the download, the phone died before I could get the chance to plug it in to charge it. Unfortunately when I tried to recharge it using the stock USB cable, the phone wouldn't turn on anymore. I plugged it in my computer but it did not recognize any USB device being plugged into it. It's as if I didn't plugged in the device at all. I've tried every button combination to reset the device as well as try other batteries and then tried the button combinations again to no avail. There was absolutely no response from the phone.
It was pretty obvious at that point that my Note was bricked. It's been only 2 weeks since I bought it and I'm really frustrated that this happened, especially now that I'm already hooked with Android coming from IOS devices for a while.
I decided to send it back to a Samsung Service Center for their evaluation. The front line technicians couldn't get my device to turn on as well. The attendee told me that they will have to keep the unit for further evaluation and told me that I have to wait for 3 business days before informing me of the results. I'm hoping that they would just replace my device with a new one.

Thanks. Yep, I sobbed for a bit after the attendee told me they need to keep it for further evaluation and no service unit was available.
My hunch on what happened to my Note was that it was writing to the flash when the power went out and did not get the chance to finish the write cycle. Thus, the unit was left out with a corrupted flash. I'm thinking that the OS should have prevented this from happening since it should know that the battery is about to die out. Moreover, even if the main flash got corrupted, there should have been a different controller (MCU, FPGA or similar) apart from the main processor which contain a boot loader code of some sort that would kick in to enable recovery of the device even if the main flash is corrupted.
I've been browsing through other threads under the SGN forum pertaining to units that won't respond to key presses to reset the device or to enter into downloading mode. I'm now lead to believe that there is no redundant system inside the Note that will ensure device recovery. Can anybody here who knows the hardware on the Note confirm or debunk this? Anybody from Samsung here?
I've been working with IOS devices (different iPhones) for a while now and had, on a number of occasions, made mistakes in jailbreaking the device but I would always be able to trust that I could re-enter DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode with some key press combinations and be able to recover the device completely. I think this is absent on the Note.
I was hoping that the Note had this feature.
anybody here who encountered a similar problem?
I have the same problem. At the morning a tried to turn on my SGN, but no response. All th simptoms the same: no charging, no reactions to buttons combinations, no PC detection.

Can you describe what exactly happened before you bricked your SGN? Have you done any further evaluations so far or have you sent your unit to the service center too?
I'm just curious, where did you get your SGN from? I'm from the Philippines and got mine from Abenson's.
I'll keep you posted as soon as I get additional information from the service center.

This is regarding a faulty USB interface. Could it be a weak USB interface circuit design or a weak bootloader implementation? The root cause will certainly be useful so that we can take extra precautions in the future as we work with the SGN.

I have the note, just a week old.
was reading a book when the display went all bizzare.
I had to remove the battery to shut it down.
Never got it to boot so far..
PC does not detect it and it doesn't charge either..
I am taking it to the service center in the morning, will update everyone on what they say.

I traveled at the train on vacation and connected my SGN to this device for charging and it became charging. At the morning I tried to power on SGN but it was bricked. I'm from Russia but now I'm in Ukrain and can't send my SGN to service center.

Hey guys,
updating as promised.
the service center tried to "upgrade" software: I guess that's code for flashed new ROM.
After which they told me that the "Motherboard" is being replaced and that I have to wait till tomorrow noon.
So there you are guys, Motherboard
Will update further once I have more details.
I called-up the local Samsung service center today to follow-up on my unit and informed me that they will be replacing the motherboard as well. They said that they already ordered the replacement board from Korea and should arrive within the next 3 days. Darn.
Although I'm happy that I will have my unit repaired, I'm still a bit worried that until the root cause is determined, I may end up with bricking my Note again given the same circumstances.
What part of the motherboard is responsible for bricking the device then? We need to get to the bottom of this in order to avoid the same thing from happening again or determine whether this is really because of a faulty hardware design.

Almost same issue
I just got my phone delivered by Fedex. I unboxed it, slapped in the battery, charged it and tried to turn it on. The only thing that happened was the boot up chime. The screen never turned on and still won't light up. I can hear the sound all right, so I know the machine is not completely bricked, but the screen never activates and the 2 capacitive buttons never light up either.
It's really frustrating since I took the day off to play with it. Such a fine piece of hardware, but it seems to be very fragile and prone to problems.
Hey guys. Not a regular user of the Note but my brother bought one about a week ago and got into the same issue some of you guys have had. Basically the Note was left uncharged (he plugged the Micro USB into the phone but forgot to plug the other end into a power source) overnight. When he woke up in the morning the phone was off, wouldn't turn on and didn't respond to any button combo. It also wouldn't charge even after trying with several different cables and leaving the cable in for several minutes.
Anyway we bought the phone back to the AIS (a carrier in Thailand) shop. Got to talk with a rather condescending salesperson who insisted that we had to take the phone to a Samsung customer service centre. Pretty frustrating experience but that's another story.
When we finally got to the Samsung repair centre, some technicians looked at the phone and determined that the battery has run flat out. This is not the normal "complete discharge" you would see in normal operation of a battery where there will be some voltage left in the battery. The battery was discharged completely in such a way that there was no voltage left which means that the charging mechanism on the phone doesn't detect any battery being inside the compartment.
Anyway the technician "jump-started" the battery by putting a bit of charge in it and after that the phone would charge and turn on fine. We were told that if the problem happens again leaving the phone in the charger for a while would fix the problem, and if that fails you can take the battery to a technician to jump-start it. Basically we can just avoid the problem by not draining the battery completely in the first place.
The customer service lady also claimed that this is a common problem for all Samsung phones, which is a bold-faced lie since I've owned several Samsung phones and never had any problem like this. Any decent electronic device should be designed to cut down the power before the battery has a chance to completely deplete in the first place anyway. It had been a long day by then so we didn't have the energy to call them out on this. We also didn't want to replace or repair the phone, since we are going abroad tomorrow and they don't have any new Galaxy Note in stock for immediate replacement.
So the root of the problem seems to be some sort of hardware or software problem that would cause the battery to occasionally completely drain. Not sure if this problem would affect all Galaxy Notes or just certain units. Since my brother will be keeping the same phone I will keep you guys updated if this problem happens again.

Actually, this is what happens to all rechargeable devices when completely drained and left that way for a long time. That's why I try to avoid calibrating batteries unless it's really necessary. But the technician is right, sometimes you only need to leave it plugged in to revive the battery. I've tried this a lot and I still get nervous every time.
Had that problem with my Evo, left it charging over night and the battery came back to life

I think I just figured out how to fix it!!!!!!! I was tinkering around and got my red light brick to turn on!!!! I'm not sure exactly what fixed it so here's everything I did-
1. Removed the storage & sim cards.
2. Took off the backplate.
3. Removed the battery.
4. Bent these 2 pins up a little bit:
5. Put the battery in at an angle, so that the power leads were connected, but the metal shielding plate on the back of the battery was not touching:
6. Hit the power button (with the battery still "halfway" installed) Bam, green light of life.
Somebody please confirm this. Meanwhile I'll be copywriting this process so anyone who performs it owes me 10 bucks
So my replacement Tilt isn't working either, so they're overnighting me a third one. In the meantime, I haven't sent back my original (RLoDed) Tilt, so I thought I'd play around with some of your theories.

I didn't know what to try besides installing the battery and SIM card and trying to push down the power, camera, and stylus buttons (I knew I was doing it correctly, because I had to use this to return my second Tilt to factory specs). No response whatsoever! This thing is deader than a doornail. Except for the red LED, of course... that works REALLY well whenever it's plugged in.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but the only thing I can confirm is that this did NOT work on my RLoDed Tilt. Tried it several times in various ways. I think you just seriously lucked out!
As such, I'd also have to vote against stickying this... for now.
Best of luck, all... if not actually in fixing your RLoDed Tilts, then definitely in avoiding the $500 service fee if AT&T discovers we voided our warranties.
alright i will confirm this too....my phone was truely RLOD..... i did the same thing that these guys did just jammin the battery in and out and it "jump started the phone"

"bounce" battery on and off the contacts for the battery a good 100 times or so
green light apeared after the red light started to flicker a little bit..... tis as if you were giving the phone CPR or something
im not going to call this a fix all i know is that the phone was RLOD and now it is working....battery is at 54% right now and i will post back in a bit to see if it has risen at all....
no smell arising from device
running origional rom but have had other roms on there (alex's)
hard SPL still installed on device
SPB phone suite is the last software that was installed on the device
reg tweaks installed as well, the usual ones no sms, hsdpa enabled blah blah blah
that is about all i can provide....the unit was on the computer overnight charging....when i woke up it was RLOD....and i was sad....i did have the ATT store replace the battery for me as well dunno if that had anything to do with the issue...
in the time that it has taken me to write this the battery is now at 55% so it is charging.....on wall charger with MOTO razr charger
ok lets take a little closer look at what happened within the past little bit....
after gettin the device all up and running it was behaving very oddly.... it would go through multiple attempts to connect to the data network for various reasons....after showing that it was at 55% on the charger it went back down to 54%... i pulled it off the charger and took it into the other room to do something......within 10 min it was down to 46%....now having a data connection my blackberry connect should have a valid network connection....but it did not... not sure why...
the best that i can conclude is that it was trying to connect to so many things all at the same time that it exhausted its self that fast....
so the question is how many people out there that have RLOD are running the BB connect software on there devices and have made REG edits to the data connection time outs and the HSDPA mod availability
editing those settings together may confuse the device and make it think that it has to connect to too many things at one time....
just another thought process that i thought that i would throw out there...
here are some things on the my device that would use the DATA connection and automatically initiate the connection on the device rather than you opening a program forcing it to connect such as Internet explorer
GPS update
HTC home weather tab
SPB weather tab
Blackberry connect
SPB insight....RSS Reader
text messages going in and out....my phone sees quite a few of those

There have been a few other people who have now fixed their RLOD's. Confirmed it was done by messing about with the battery. If you have revived yours, please post your method in here so we can compare them and eventually pinpoint the fix. Thanks.
i had the same prob..took out the batterly wiped the four contact points on the phone (might of pushed them down or up) and put battery back in and worked..
I believe sWuRv was onto something. My Tilt had the RLOD today. I tried everything, even what he suggested above to no avail. So I called warranty and got my replacement on it's way, express shipping waved and all. So I decided to everything I could think of to try and get the thing back on so I might be able to back up my data again.
I started fooling with the battery, like sWuRv suggested but I moved it all around at 45 degrees or so pushing the power on button. I noticed while it was plugged to the USB with red light on that every now and then the red light would flash when I moved the battery so the contacts moved (while holding the battery at that 45 degrees). I started getting the light to go yellow but it would not stay. So I unplugged from the USB and kept trying it while pushing the power button. It eventually started and I was able to back up to my SD card. One thing I can tell you is that this process caused the phone to get hot and smell like electronics burning a little. There is definitely a power problem inside.
I have no idea how or why this worked but it did. I think I will still take the replacement even though I have to figure out how to swap my fancy invisible armor clear protector skin.
I'll try and update on whether this phone dies again or what until I get the new one.

Reseating the battery and/or sim/storage cards is hardly a revolutionary procedure. Its Cellphone 101.
you guys are LIFE SAVERS. I have been on this forum for about a month now and I finally found a reason to post. I haven't posted because I always find my answers. I just wanted to thank everyone, as I have been on the phone with Amazon.com (where i got my tilt), went into an AT&T store and was on the phone with HTC tech support ALL day trying to resolve my red light issue. Unbelievable that all I needed to do was give it some "battery CPR":

These stories remind me off all the bad batteries/no powerup of my Motorola Q and those of others. My mother is on her 4th Q and I know its the battery, but the store just swaps out the whole phone. I've seen batteries last as little at 2 weeks, especially if let run down to empty at any point.
My questions are, is this just a bad battery problem? Does anyone with RLoD have a spare battery to try? If these batteries fail in the shorted condition, will they over draw power from the phone and mess up the charging circuit?

I certainly don't believe it's a bad battery problem. I had 2 spare batteries, fully charged with separate docking charger - none of the 3 batteries made any difference once I got the RLOD.

I finished a call yesterday and then dropped my phone on to the pavement cos I was a bit drunk... Anyway this caused my phone to go from working fine (all be it with pants battery life) to just flashing the red light. Fixed it today. I tried the methods prescribed in this thread without success although I did not persevere for very long. I then put a spare battery in to the phonea and bingo the orange light comes on, phone boots up and it's now happilly charging. Note that I charged the old battery for several hours before trying the fix. Pity nobody seems to know what the problem actually is. I wish HTC would let us know....

I had a similar problem with my old iPAQ hw6515, and a Motorola V3. The contacts on the battery don't spring forward as well on an older phone as they do when it was new. I shimmed the battery. I did this by taking a business card and holding it against the opposite side of the battery from the contacts I traced the battery's profile and cut it out. I scotch taped my new shim to that side of the battery, then re-inserted it. This forces the battery up against the contacts better and in many times resolves inoperable phones, failure to charge, and spontaneous rebooting issues.

My replacement tilt (first one had a bad USB connector) died Sunday.
Had it on the charger, looked down, red LED. Back of phone was pretty
warm. Pulled the battery, SIM, memory card, slammed the battery onto the
battery contacts rapidly 5-6 times, put the SIM, memory, battery back into
it, and it charged up. Did a hard reset. Battery was 100% charged, I turned
it completely OFF when I went to bed. Got up, battery was 0% drained!
Red LED again. Did the rapid thingy with the battery again, orange charge
light came on.
Called at&t warranty replacement. When I told her I had a red LED, she didn't
even ask me to do anything else. She just asked for the IMIE number and shipped me another one.
Maybe the 3rd one will be the charm LOL.......
I'm beginning to think that HTC doesn't stand for "high tech computes" but
"high tech CRAP"....
Maybe you guys got the margin of error productions? I know its really unlikely that you could get them again after a replacement but it is possible, and it maybe your computer. What do you think could be making this things go crazy? Overly protective anti-virus, I know, I know but it could do things secretly and screw around like mine does and wont let me into sites I have been on before on the same app no changes . . . Well I hope you luck.
ok I just tried everything you guys said, but it didn't work for me
so as some of you have stated it must be the battery, so what I did is put it between my hands for about 1 minute and put it in and it worked again!
really weird... must be the heat?

Hello, I first wish to say that I did a basic search and didnt find any info. maybe I searched wrong since this is first time this has happend to a phone I know of.
second I don't have time to do a full extensive search, sorry if it looks like I didnt search but I did.
Anyways here to the problem:
What happend? Well the Note just died. from simple usage. the screen is all black, won't boot at all, can't even see any lights. (Got Desire HD, Tho I don't remember this phone had a charging/signal light, but I believe it has)
The Note is my mothers so she wanted me to look at it.
There were no problems during flash or, rather it wasnt me who flashed it. but got it pre-flashed of tradera (part of ebay) and nothing was wrong besides old rom, was waiting for full drivers ICS since I havn't seen one for the N7000 so I havn't flashed a ICS rom since my mother needs the most support but anyway
I tried taking the battery of and putting it back again (Fixes 90% of my problems!), I tried fail-safe booting it. I am kinda stumped on what to do, so if know whats the problem and if its a cheap one I will be happy to do it. hopefully its not a motherboard replacement... :-( then I will cry...

It turns out it started working with 25% battery after being having battery taken out for 1 hour, and was in the wall socketed charger for 7 hours. YAY!
So it just died in middle of using it normally?
You didn't do any wipes or such in recovery and then it didn't start after that?

I am not sure there is enough detail here to be able to help. But if it does not go to download mode with the usual ways or with a USB jig, then it will need to go to samsung repair centre, or you could try to JTAG first.
But if it is a result of a bad bootloader flash, then JTAG might work. If its due to a bad ICS kernel flash, then motherboard replacement is most likely.

First of All, it doesn't have ICS yet. (since i havnt found a good kies ICS yet that everything works on yet, havnt checked the past few weeks)
Second, it died in standby mode, during work when she was gonna take a picture for her work (she has card that allows usage of camera during work place in volvo)
Third, it wasnt during flash or anything. I will have to check the phone with shidapu when he wakes up... ARGH HIM! for not having normal mornings where you wake up around 6 or 7am...
I believe it didn't die during middle of usage but when the phone was in power save or whatever its called when the screen is black and not phone in use but in operations

because my computer can't even see the note when I am connected to it with USB. can the battery died? since I don't know if the note can be powered up without battery. *tried connecting without battery but no luck :/
Try to remove the battery for a couple of minutes and then insert it again and connect the wall socket charger and wait up to one hour. The Note has a charging animation but if the battery is totally drained i think it won't show directly.
If you having troubles finding another battery to test with you can always come by Astra in Mölndal and try mine as i see that you are living in Gothenburg.

sadly don't have have a extra battery I believe, but I do what you said, I will pull the battery off for now, and when I see the phone next time I will put it in and wait a hour. if all above fail, I might P.M. you that i might be visiting you =)

well u can use any charger since u need to give charge to the battery.. but recommended is charger for note.
Next i had a problem with my battery as well. try to put the phone on charging (there ain't any charging light on this phone ) but you'll see an animation of battery. if it shows up don't worry your phones safe but not the battery but if it doesn't then i think there's some problem with the bootloader or the kernal ...

I actually could boot it! YAY! got into the droid as usual.
But there is one wrong thing... it says 25% battery left. orange...

Well I guess I have to reset the state of the battery? (battery-memory wipe or whatever its called?) if thats possible, if so is just simple CWM? (does Note even use CWM?, I am a HTC user and it wasnt me who rooted that device as I mentioned earlier so I dunno what recovery software there is for samsung)

maybe u should take the battery off the phone for a while and try to charge it without booting the device . maybe then it will work fine. just do it three or four times whenever you charge your battery. this way the battery will charge efficiently without it's use on the phone... i hope you got it since i am not able to type well today as i am right now a lil bit anxious about my notes problem

I believe i mentioned it started working. Charging it after removed battery for a hour or so fixed it. took a long time tho, 7 hours for 25% full battery. (26% short after, well samsung are known for their extreme long battery load times... galaxy tab 10.1... that was a device that took over 2 hours to charge...)
It might need a new battery.
The same thing happened to my Note yesterday. It was last charged on Saturday and, with light use, after three days it still had around 50% battery charge remaining when I went to bed on Tuesday night. Yesterday (Wednesday) morning I tried to wake the Note and it was completely dead. Of course I did not expect a flat battery, given the usual discharge performance of my Note. I removed and replaced the battery and hit various buttons and absolutely zip. I connected the charger and again no response. Nothing lit, no beep, nothing.
It's probably worth mentioning that I'm on the latest stock Samsung ROM and unrooted. I really thought it was FUBAR and would need to be sent off for repair. Anyway, I do have a jig so I plugged that in and the screen woke up, so I knew there was some sign of life. But still it would not boot.
Anyway, to cut the story short the battery was as dead as a dodo. I don't know why. It should not have been. I left it on charge from the AC charger and after a short while (a minute or two maybe) the charging symbol appeared with a hazard triangle upon it. It took over 4 hours to finally make it to a fully swollen 100%. The phone is almost exactly six months old and this is the first real scare I've had with it.
I only bore you with the tale because it might give hope to people who think their phone is bricked when the fact is that nothing worse has happened than the battery has gone (unexpectedly) very flat. Right now, 27 hours after I finished fully charging it the battery is down to 92%. That's the sort of performance I am used to. I will leave it without further charge for another few days to see if a similar thing happens again. Hopefully not.
yes i know u said that it started working. What i am saying is that whenever u want ur phone to charge switch it off and then charge(this way it will charge efficiently) . just follow it 3-4 time when u charge it and your battery will be on the right track(i hope that works). my note takes upto 1.3 hour (nearly) to charge completely from 10%. and when it's switched off it does the same in 45 minutes... what a difference!!!
try it and if it works for u then this way would be a best alternative to replace battery for charging issue (of course if ur device is still under warranty you should opt for a replacement).

Like ThaiDai mentioned, try with a different battery. You could be having the same problems that I had.
My battery was swollen. (Due to excessive charging, this reduces battery life like crazy, 70% jumped to 1% in a second.
PLUS
The circuit board of the my charging board is burnt so adb and direct charging doesn't work.
Cost me about $100 to fix them. $50 for each component. Ouch..
If your phone works after using another battery works, you might wanna look into the two problems I mentioned.

I did not read your first post that good and saw later you cant get to download mode any more.
At first it looked I could not get into download mode , but I had to press those buttons for a longer time ( 30 sec + ).
After all I get my phone working again with a firmware and flash with Odin.
If want to try again to get into download mode by holding the buttons for a longer time I post again.

As mentioned previously, I tried direct charging on the battery connectors but it changes nothing. The battery is not involved.
I also changed the circuit board in a repair shop, unfortunately it didn't reanimate my samsung.
The tech said he can't do anymore unless putting a new Note mother board, but that's almost 300 bucks.

Got like the same problem with N7000. Phone in use for about 11 months. Dropped it more then once but not last few months, find it hard to believe you didn't ever drop in in almost 700 days, but ow well you must be that one in a million guy, hèhè. Anywhooo... Phone was fully charged overnight. It had been of charger for only few hours. Got a call from friend, but I was buzzy, so ignored it. When I wanted to call him back an hour later phone didn't respond in any way. Went to store, they said it wasn't battery but most likely the power-grid or something like it he said. Spoke about changing a module. But as there are signs of damage on the outside they said warranty is no longer valid. He to said the micro USB did not go well in the port of the phone, which he connected to the failure of the phone. To my disappointment I can say, this flaw was present when I got the phone (new!). I figured getting it in difficultly was normal cause I had nothing to compare it to. But feel pretty screwed by my provider. So now I think about changing that specific module, but the guy from the store spoke about billing me around 90 euros (like $130) for the repair. So now feel double screwed by Vodaphone because: The module itself is for sale online between 23,95-32,95 euro, so they wanted to charge me 60 euro for 5 minutes work. I'm totally broke right now so can't tell you if this is gonna work. And with a week waiting till my pay-check is gonna make me whole again, I got the opportunity to learn from other peoples experience. So perhaps this is something for you to try?
I know for sure I got this eMMC Brickbug (tested it with the app) and I'm not sure I updated my Note the right way last year.
So...
Is it possible a new (automatic) update screwed me over and most of all: screwed the hardware?

Could it be the Micro-USB module?
I used the phone much for online gaming, so it got pretty hot at the back sometimes. Did you have the same? Can anyone else relate to this?

If you take a light bulb connect it to power and shake it, the inside wiring will reconnect when it makes contact and work again. So changing the bulb is mostly because we THINK it's not fixable or being lazy. Most things we can fix ourselves or with a little help from our fellow users.
If there is still warranty left you should indeed try to take advantage of that. But please ask the guy that fixed it what was wrong and what was replaced and share it with us.
Hope you too will be able to fix it cheap.

Hey guys, i had some serious trouble here. My Z3C is now bricked (I'm not sure whether it's softbricked or hardbricked). The Rom is stock. I plugged the charger (magnetic) from 5pm and I went out for some works, and 3 hours late I returned home and found out that my device couldn't turn on. I've tried many ways like combo VL+ and Power, or Reset Button, but useless. Can you help me with this, thank you so much.

does your pc recognize the phone when you plug it in w/ usb?
if not, then the phone is most likely dead and your best bet is to take it back to the store for a repair/replacement

well i've brought it to the store already. They connected it to PC, then the Sony/Xperia logo appeared on the phone, but the device still .... I don't understand, I used the stock ROM, no root, no bootloader,... but this brick problem still happened. And after scavenging the internet for solution, I found out that there were many users had this problem like I did.
hopefully my device will be fixed without being teardown or the waterproof ability will become weak.

Well my phone is now awake, after a electrical stimulus process. The technician said my device's power was weak. Maybe I should buy a Z2a to use along with my Z3C, well, for precaution purpose.
And I used the stock rom all the time, and I still didn't understand what've caused this problem. But thanks for your great help man. I am really appreciate your support.

Was it some cheap magnetic cable or Magnector X or some other?

What he probably meant is: if your battery is completely drained so that the circuit of the phone does not even recognize the battery anymore as to allow/start charging, it often helps when you connect the battery for a short time (few seconds) directly (without the circuit in between) to a power source/charger. This bings it back to life and charging it in a controlled manner via the phone charging circuit is possible again.
Well, in my case, my Z3C battery wasn't completely drained. I charged it when it was 17%, then I went out for about 3-4 hrs, and when I came home, the problem happened.
The store technicians figured out that my battery was hibernate, so they used high voltage electric to charged it, then it came back to life, just like we use electric shock method to save people.
Does it make any difference what is the charger?
well, I have just had the exactly the same problem.
And I can tell the magnetic charger cause this. I plug in with 65% battery left ( I charge it overnight as a habit) and In a morning it's completely dead ( like anyone who has this problem ). I was so panic ...
It could be the magnetic charge draw the juice out of the battery and make it completely drained instead of pump power to the battery, I guess.

I'll try to list all symptoms and procedures I've tried here. I recently dropped my phone and smahed the screen - sent off to motorola repair center and it has now been fixed. It arrived in the post 2 hours ago, so I immediately plugged it in (usng the turbo charger).
As expected the battery icon came up, first the solid icon, then it moved on to the charging icon.
Half an hour later I checked it, it was still "charging" but not a drop of power had gone into it. So I tried a different cable with the turbo charger, a lower powered one. Exactly the same response.
When I tried to power the phone on with conventinal method, the screen went blank and no activity was evident.
So I managed to boot into bootloader by holding down power and volume down (i think) button while pluggin it in simultaneously. This worked.
I set up my phone, wifi, sim etc... but notice the batttery icon has not displayed any charge. I go into settings and the battery settings IS MISSING! As if the phone has no battery in it.
So I decide to plug it in via USB to my laptop, no response at all, not even a charging icon. Different cable, same again.
I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what the issue may be, as it's been away for 3 weeks being repaired and I can't afford another 3 weeks without this phone as I'm an android developer and need it to regularly test my apps.
Interesting enough, a piece of paper arrived with the repaired phone stating that a live call and a software update had been implemented on it in the workshop. Leading me to believe that it was fully functional after its repair.
Any ideasand I would be hugely grateful.

I've been on the phone to motorola, they are sending a jiffy bag and it's going back to the repair center. This time under warranty.
I'd really like a fix now though :/ although I've tried everything under the sun.

It's in a jiffy bag ready to go back to SBE for repair. My case has been "escalated". All under warranty, thanks for the input. I think you're right it must be a hardware issue, I've tried everything to get it to work but the batter is basically not being recognised.
I'm more annoyed now at the fact I've paid £100 for a "repair", and will have to wait at least another week for this turnaround :/.
Wow, £100? Were you offered the Motorola insurance when you purchased your phone? I bought it because I wasn't sure if I could get insurance on my phone since it's not yet available with my carrier (Verizon).

I thought £100 was quite reasonable for a new phone with a smashed screen, particularly one as large and high quality as the n6. Not to mention the digitiser being attached.
I'm in the uk, apparently moto care is only available in the US at the moment.
My insurance, once the phone is returned, will be in the form of a ludicrously heavy duty case with built in screen protector!
