My phone has been working perfectly with JM5 & samset v1.9f with CFlag fix v1.80.
Then the other day I noticed the screen was shaking slightly when I held my finger on the screen, as if it couldn't locate where my finger was correctly. Also it shakes alot more severely while it's charging.
Has anyone heard of this problem before? Could it be a software fault that reflashing firmware will fix, or is it a hardware fault.
Please help!

it's called haptic feedback
it's on by default, you can turn it off from Settings
is that what you mean? or it's something else?
Maybe it's the touch point itself which doesn't register correctly.
Are you using an aftermarket (non-Samsung) charger? I remember reading about someone else having trouble with the touchscreen going bonkers while he was charging the phone on a non-standard charger, which for a capacitive touchscreen might indicate some kind of electrical grounding issue, (edit: or maybe not (link)).
edit: Maybe you can try discharging the screen by wiping it with a soft cloth used for cleaning vinyl records.
I have only ever used the charger that came with the phone, and the usb that came with it to attach it to my laptop.
The problem still exists while it's not charging, it's just alot less severe.
I'm going to have to flash it to stock firmware and hope that fixes it. If not I'll have to send it out to be repaired.
I hate phones sometimes......

I should also add my screen is perfectly responsive, there are no dead zones.
It's as if the touch screen can't tell which part of my finger is touching the screen. For example; If I put my finger flat on the screen rather than the tip of my finger, it shakes alot more.

Thanks for your help, I read the link you posted, very helpful. Maybe the charger was faulty and that damaged my phone overnight?
I tried the charger at someone elses house and the increased screen shaking still occurred. But if I connect it to my laptop by usb, it reacts the same as when it's unplugged.
I will try wiping the screen with a vinyl cloth when I get home. It has got a screen protector on, but I can't imagine that affecting it.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
definitely not the screen protector
i have one installed, and i don't experience those screen shakes you described.
I found this interesting thread about someone having very simular issues: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/te...tions/31237-please-help-droid-has-shakes.html
It hasn't helped in solving the problem, but at least I know I'm not alone with this issue.
Edit
After reading the post more carefully, it seems that this persons issue somehow fixed itself.
Perhaps the best thing to do is check if this issue is covered by warranty (so I can send it to be fixed at a later date if problem is still there) & see if mine fixes itself too...

i used to experience this on my HD2 and Milestone, i must say that the galaxy S'es touch sensor is one of the best and have very seldom experienced this problem.

Yes my problem is simular to that, but it's only that bad when it's charging from the mains.
I'm going to flash to stock firmware tonight. If that doesn't sort it I'll take it to a t-mobile shop & see what they suggest.
Apparently I've got 2 years warranty so if it gets worse rather than 'fixing itself' I can always send it to be repaired. I just don't want them to give me a refurbished one, knowing my luck it will be full of dead pixels...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Sounds like something interfering with the contact between your finger and the screen, or faulty hardware. ( Screen protector, wet fingers. )
If you are reproducing increased troubles with charger than it may very well be faulty hardware.
I can also attest to the high quality of the Galaxy S's touch screen, it can track 5 points very accurately.
It's not the screen protector as it was working fine with it before Tuesday, when the problem started.
I'm going to flash the firmware tomorrow when I have time, if that doesn't fix it then it must be hardware. I'll report back.

Ok, I flashed JF3 and the problem was still present.
I went to a local T-Mobile shop & showed them the problem. They basically said the phone still functions correctly, and recommended to stick with it and possibly get it repaired if it gets worse at a later date, which I fully agree with as I could get a refurbished phone in a worse state.
I reinstalled JM5, samset v1.9f, and used the update.zip ext4 instead of Cflag fix. I notice for some reason the problem seems less severe, but that might just be imagining it.
Thanks to everyone who helped.

I'd take it to an official samsung service point. There's no way a phone salesman would have a friggin clue about whether or not that's safe. It might make your battery explode and blow your nuts off if theres some shortcircuit in the phone or something...

i had the same problem with another phone. i tried everything. after that i just turned phone off, get all screws out of the back side. i pressed all connectors and after that put the plastic on it, turn the screws back in and restarted my phone. now i never got the problem anymore
NOTE: if youre not sure about what youre doing, ask somebody who know he can!
Kind Regards,
Thought I'd share my story with you all in hopes that some of you may have had similar problems I've had with the Droid 3, perhaps in an effort to give me hope that one day I'll receive one that isn't shot to hell in some way shape or form.
1.) Brand-new, upgraded from the Droid 2 around the first week of August. This one lasted about a month before the slider just gave out and became so loose that it would open up by itself if I held the phone horizontally. No case was used on it prior, so I'm not sure what caused this. Never dropped it either (I baby the hell out of my phones).
2.) Replacement came in, no big deal. Attempted to slide it open right out of the box. Guess what? Wouldn't budge. Literally jammed shut. Sent it back the same day.
3.) Boot-looping from hell and 3G drop all the time in places where I should have full reception (i.e., my house). 5.6.890 was not released at this time.
4.) - 7.) Every single one had a completely jacked up sliding mechanism that would either squeek, crack, scratch, jam, or completely tear apart the left plastic portion next to the keyboard within just 5-10 slides. Unacceptable. 1 or 2 of these (lost count) also loved to boot-loop for no apparent reason. Mind you, I tried every trick in the book. Tried never installing ANY apps, tried replacing the extended battery with the stock one, tried replacing the SD-card with a different one, and hard-resetted several times. To no avail.
8.) Replacement #8. 5.6.890 is released, no more boot-looping it seems, but this one has a vibrating mechanism from hell. Whenever it would vibrate, it would sound like electricity. Haptic feedback on it felt like voltage. Unacceptable.
9.) Just received replacement #9 today. This <MAY> be a stupid thing to complain about, but wherever I press on the phone, the damn thing squeeks like it's falling apart. Press the home button ever so slightly...*squeek.* Press the back button...*rattle*. Wipe the phone down with a cloth...*rattle rattle crackle crackle squeek squeek squeeeeeeeeek*. No matter how little pressure I use, it squeeks as if its falling apart. The sliding mechanism, however, feels solid and amazing on this one. Clicks and holds tight, but OH MY GOD IS SQUEEKS AND RATTLES SO MUCH. Never had/heard this problem on the other 8 replacements.
Someone shoot me =/
Also, none of these problems arose post-root nor did I root any of the ones I owned. I have rooted my brothers and I'm currently using his to text out new ROMs and such....but it's freaking annoying. I want my own to play with and flash.
Does anyone else have weird problems? I may be a little OCD when it comes to stuff like this, but I sure as hell didn't pay 230 dollars for a boot-looping/voltage vibrating/3g dropping/SQUEEKING phone.
...does anyone else's "squeek" or "rattle" when the press down on the bottom-right or top-right corners of the phone when it's closed?

Man, sounds like you got stuck getting all the bad batch phones = / I'm really rough on my phone, and I've had none of these problems. Hopefully you can get a good one, cuz this phone is quite fantastic once rooted and rom'd. The only complaint I've ever had was the weak stock battery life, but even that isn't that bad since I've modded it.

You've replaced it just as many times as well huh? That's crazy.
the same thing happened with my droid x they all sucked they acutely had to send me a brand new one still in the box ....to fix the issues i was having ... lets just say thank God Verizon not selling cars there 100 point inspection test dosent work very well .. every time i call vzw they insure me it was put to the test i say well some one must of been blind because there is a light shining throw the screen when i just put the battery in it lol
Well I'm on the 6th, satisfied with this one so far. Most of them had the vibrate problem you mentioned. Some had light bleeding out of the screen near the softkeys. One the screen would randomly get distorted, almost like the top half of the screen was twisted and flipped around. And yes I do hear some squeaking on this one it's the back cover for mine anyway, taking it on and off too many times I assume.
Yea I'm not too sure about this 100-point inspection they keep referring to. How the hell do they miss something like what you mentioned...or an insanely squeeky/loose screen? Or even a 100% jammed screen that won't slide up? 100-point my ass.
Also, just to clarify...I absolutely love the Droid 3; I just want one that isn't jacked up. Even if they offered me a brand-new Bionic or something, I'd refuse. I love the D3, I just want one that isn't insanely jacked.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention that I've had the light-bleeding around the softkeys as well (specifically the last one I got, number 8). It was only on the bottom-right portion. Very noticeable and very annoying.

I did, after the 6th. I got a supervisor and she was a real B-word. I tore her apart and she refused to send me a new one. Don't think they ever would, because I was on the phone with her for about 15 minutes and she refused.
believe me i have but they just changed there policy you can keep getting as many refurbish phones. it used to be after 5 they would try to get you into something else ... well lets see the offered me the charge and tunderbolt i exsplaned to them that the only comparable device to this dorid 3 is the bionic and they wont offer that .. i am not going to down grade a dul core with the crap of last year test market no thank you ...

My D3 has had no real problems other than what is common to a new phone (mostly software related) and occasional operator error. I cannot calculate the statistical probability against randomly receiving nine consecutive bad phones. Either someone has targeted you to receive all the junk ones or you live somewhere with frequent over-the-top EMPs (or maybe hell). With similar experiences with the other phones as well, you must be living under some kind of curse!

Lmao. Well, considering they are all pre-owned "like new" devices...there is the probability that they were returned for the same reasons I'm returning them.
I get yet another one in the mail tomorrow...
Create a sob story and they send you a different phone. Its how i went from the droid x to the droid 3 without having an upgrade :] keep complaingin on the phone and say you want a different more reliable device thats in the same range. Then say something about the bionic {or differen phone} and they will give up and give it to you for free. just have to pay for a battery
So after 4 exchanges I was happy when I opened the box and found it didn't have screen lift, the speakers worked great, and it didn't flicker.
After using it for awhile I noticed new problems never experienced before...
1) It wouldn't shut down completely. You could power it down, but it wouldn't turn on unless you held the power button for over 10 seconds to force a restart or if you plugged in the charger the screen wouldn't come on showing it was charging. It seemed to happen most of the time, but sometimes it would shut down like it should.
2) The touchscreen would become laggy/unresponsive after awhile. This mainly happens while playing games such Nova 3, the screen becomes unresponsive and makes it impossible to play the game. Or it happens while browsing in Chrome, it takes a couple swipes to move around the screen or when you try to input something on the keyboard it will miss every other key press.
3) If I installed certain programs Wifi performance would die. For whatever reason when I installed Dropbox wifi performance on my N7 would suffer. Instead of getting steady downstream speeds it would be very slow and constantly pause during a download. I saw this anytime downloading an app in Google Play or it was impossible to watch anything on Youtube.
Tried doing a factory reset twice to track down the problem and it came back each time. Did a goog search and found many other people were dealing with the same problems so it isn't me.
The Google rep felt it was a hardware issue so they're sending me another N7... at this point I don't care if the next one has screen lift, if it doesn't have the above problems I am living with it.
The non responsive touch issue is a pain. Exchanging mine tomorrow. I canfix screen lift, but the lack of response, i cannot.

I have a new n7 with no problems at all no screen lift all I did was fit a screen protector on the front and buy a yobo high quality case for it loving it got from Currys uk.
I've actually just contacted Google about returning mine due to a screen issue, at first the screen was semi responsive, then stopped working completely, no longer can i control the device unless i fully remove the back, or have the lower left portion of the back lifted while I'm using it. I've contacted Google about an exchanged and am now waiting on a response.
The screen does not respond, if I go to the main screen and put the back on, it registers a constant touch on the lower left side.
I have tried developer options, hard/soft reset, factory reset, etc.
I am unsure about what to do other than what I have but it's clear that this is a hardware issue. I am no longer willing to use the N7 I have because it literally feels like it's falling apart as well, with the creaks and such.
Thanks to Walmart and Staples for allowing me to return a total of 5 N7's and finally landing a perfect one. They all hand the common problem like screen lift, unresponsive screen, screen flickering and cracking speaker.
My suggestion is to buy it add a brick and mortar store that has no questions asked return policies, like the ones mentioned. Trust me it at the end it'll all be well worth it.

I have one from Staples bought July 18th that is perfect, a little bit of screen flicker but it's once in a blue moon, haven't seen it do it in a while, it's a c60....my other N7 was bought at Wal-Mart August 4th, c60, nothing wrong at all. As far as I can tell from doing the bezel test it's perfectly flat, no lift on either one. I push down on the left side where people say the lift starts and it doesn't make any noises on either one. If I do have it it's pretty minor, as some people are saying we "all" have lift in some way. I'm just not seeing it...and I have a blurex case that doesn't cover the bezel at all, so I can see the edges at all times. There are some c60' s that are good out there. Heck, I've been reading on here people having major screen lift with the c80 batches.

Personally, I really don't think it really matters *where* you buy it... Chances are probably better that you'll get a "good" one with the later serial numbers, but as we've seen, even some of the newest serial numbers can have problems too...
Shame on Asus for such a lack of Quality Control, but it is a great little device if you get a good one though! Extremely fast and stable device...

Hi everyone,
Long time lurker so first off thanks to everyone for all the useful assistance over quite a prolonged period.
I did a search before posting this, and whilst other screen issues have been raised in the past I could see no reference to this one. Basically in the last 48hrs my N7 has started to interpret touch screen input despite me not actually interfacing with the screen. It has got so bad in the last day I'm probably going to have to send it back as I assume its a hardware issue. I've had the N7 about 6 weeks.
Not sure if anyone else has seen such a thing and its actually software related? I'd rather fix it myself if possible rather than send it away. Even if not, I thought it would be useful to provide a record of the issue.
Edit - as a new user I can't post the YouTube link. My username is stenard1000 and the video title is "Nexus 7 screen issue - phantom input". I double checked and its easy enough to locate.
Ignore the Paradise Cove gameplay in the background. The issue mainly occurs in the top right corner. The only screen input by me in the video is the back button or pressing no in the middle of the screen. I've enabled the touch screen logging in the developer options to help track the phantom inputs more easily.
Also, for the record, turning the screen off and back on again does stop the issue temporarily, so its not a permanent hardware fault.
All you can do is a full wipe and format of everything, and flash back to completely stock. If that doesn't fix it then its a hardware issue and you're powerless,; time to send it back.
One thing that you could try first is popping the back off, and disconnecting the battery for ten minutes or so to give it a proper cold boot. That's the best advice i can give...

There's been a # of posts & discussions on this lately - hardware issues are being pointed at - as simple as a loosely assembled battery connector (that's lousy QC on the production line at the factory = poor QI) and/or hardware failure with the thin & delicate electronics.
At least we can mostly conclude that neither our own government's CIA/NSA and/or UK's MI5, etc. are tuning in to spy on our devices, or some hackers deep out in cyberspace has managed to remotely launch spyware on the N7 - I would hate to think what my friends behind the China's firewalled garden are handling these freaking incidents with the ghosty keypad inputting strokes on its own, LOL.
I had this issue straight out the box and after i flashed smoothrom also (i called them ghost strokes). After flashing CleanRom all that disappeared. Can't say for sure that CleanROM fixed it, buti haven't had that issue since then.

Hi everyone, i would like to share a experience i've had with both of my nexus 4 ordered from the google play with you other n4 possessors.
This is not a troubleshooting topic it's just a kind of survey i'm doing.
I've received my nexus 4 in december, and i noticed there was something going on with the display, some horizontal lines stayed on the screen while i was swiping the homescreen or changing image/scrolling webpages. Then after a while i noticed there was a dark horizontal line on the left side of the screen. This line doesn't appear on white images, it can be seen more on grey or dark backgrounds, e.g. put the 4th default wallpaper and scroll all the way to the left and you should be able to see it. Also, this line became more and more marked on the screen depending on the temperature of the battery, e.g. while charging or playing heavy games or flash player. I called google play ordered a replacement and i got it the day after, turn it on, install all my apps, and the line was STILL there, also on the new device.
My question is, am I so unlucky that i've received 2 faulted devices from google or everyone has this problem? can anyone please check?
P.s. put brightness to the maximum when checking.

If so then yes mine has it.

I've got 2 vertical lines on both sides of the screen (left and right) and they're not that much visible but they're always there. IT just looks as if those sides were a little bit dimmer than the rest of the screen.
I have same problem on my n4,there's grey line on left screen which more visible when the device getting heat..is it possible to disappear by itself after few time?or should i claim my warranty?thx before and sorry for my bad english
Guys I'm having the same issue. Should I claim my warranty? Or any solution to make it disappear? For me this is a very costly phone and I don't wanna take any risks. I can see the line in most apps even in chrome while typing in address bar the window greys out. At that time its perfectly visible. Its jus 1 month old n now I'm **** scared

I'm glad I caught this thread. I bought a refurbished Nokia wireless charging plate. I didn't have the good sense to check XDA first, and sure enough the thing has compatibility issues. I thought I'd just leave it on the plate overnight to settle in as some people have suggested, and after about an hour my screen was violently flashing on and off with pronounced vertical lines over the screen (discoloration, not a line of pixels). After a while the lines mostly faded, but I can still see them just as described in this thread when I pull down the notification tray or open any app with a grey background (like the gallery).
I just got an RMA today. I'm wondering whether we've all experienced power issues or if I just didn't notice the lines until I was looking for them.

I'm not so sure that this is even a problem that an RMA is going to fix. Like I said, I only noticed it when I was looking for it. Might just be a charactaristic of a batch of panels, more like a light leak than damage.
However, if it is damage there is no way you're fixing it without an RMA. It's clearly not a software level issue.
I thought I was the only one. Mine has it but I barely notice it anymore.

hi... User from my local forum had same problem with You, 1 vertical grey line on left side of screen.. it only appear when screen start getting heat and temporary disappear after long idle.. but he said after 2-3 months that line disappear permanently by it self... maybe it is some kind of glue...?
Been using my nexus 4 for a month and noticed this just a few hours ago. Scared the **** out of me and still am. But just to confirm, this is common on our phone....right?
