Is thare a way to improve quality and resolution of Filming and taking photos?
Someone tried it already..

But I don't know if that is stable enough.
It is not possible as hardware does not support

I was wondering if we could get 640x360 at 120fps video recording without audio on the phone as 1280x720 at 30fps is already there.
So if the phone can process 720p at 30fps then it should also do 640x360 at 120fps or even 320x180 at 240fps(for ultra-slow motion).
If this is possible then we can reduce the video playback framerate to 30fps(on computer or on the phone itself if it is possible) and the video would be in slow motion.
I read that by editing the media_profiles.xml we can tinker with video recording settings, i think it is available on froyo only.
So can the leaked builds for SGS can they be used?
I would be getting the SGS on my birthday so can't try it myself.
Till then i am gathering information on mods that can be done to enhance the android experience.
Thanks in advance.

Utkarsh
I would love this. My girlfriend can do it with her Samsung Wave, too. I'm so jealous
I found the topic in another sub-forum before, but there doesn't seem to be much interest in this.

Bump
Would love this feature too
Im not sure if you can just decrease the pixel and so increase your frames per sec
I think this depends on the camera....
Because if you think backwards... you have 640p at 30fps, and you would turn it in 15fps, the resolution increases ? No, i think the Wave camera simply has this feature to film 120fps....
But please tell me im wrong, because i would also love it !!
I think its true that the camera must support this feature. But it's also about the throughput of data which has a certain maximum. That's why the resolution is reduced a factor 2, and enabling a frame rate of 120 fps, without exceeding the maximum data throughput.
But I also think that if it's possible on a Wave, it must be possible on a Galaxy S. I'm rather convinced they use the same camera, judging from the samples recordings made with both phones.
So hopefully, somebody can jump into this. Or give a real explanation how this slo-mo recodind works.
(Is it really a high shutter speed, and do you need a very highly illuminated object, or do they make use of some interpolation technique?)
Can anybody try!!!!
Can anybody running leaked froyo on SGS try this by editing the media_profiles.xml
i guess it might work as cyanogen mod 6 enabled 720p on the nexus one.
By editing the media_profiles.xml we might get 120fps video which can be slowed on computer(by reducing the video playback to 30fps).
Technically speaking i think it is possible if the camera is not causing a bottleneck, because the data rate at which 720p is encoded is enough for 640x360 at 120fps if we do the math.
So please it is my ernst request to all the pro-mods to try this.
Any news on this matter??
it occured to me that we could extract the cammera app from a samsung wave and translate the slo-motion feature to our i9000... any hint on how to do this??
Months old topic but... BUMP!
Really not fare that WAVE can do it but i9000 cant
What a great idea - although I suspect if it could be done, it would have been already....
Fingers crossed though
I just saw a phone yesterday Samsung Nexus Prime I9250 and the camera is almost same as our phone 5MP with LED flash. but the features and quality of the pictures capture by it was awsome. Then I checked it has update of Android 4.2.2. Its panorama shooting mode is awsome. Is that possible that we mode our default camera to that features camera?? And if anybody has done already then could anyone provide me link? I checked all the threads reg. camera but could not find it so, I created a saprate thread for that.
I suppose you're talking about the galaxy nexus. It has a better sensor. It is capable of capturing 1080P video and also, it performs better at low light.
There aren't any software mods which can totally compensate for hardware limitations. However, you could try installing certain camera applications and see if it helps you in any way.
And regarding the panorama you're taking about, it's called photospehere. As far as my knowledge serves, we do not have any mod for that.

Would it be possible to get higher resolution recording than 1080p, as in 2K, QXGA, WQXGA? I know it's not just the software issue. Naturally, the HW must be capable, so let's see first if the camera module could do it.

Theoretically, I sure do think so (if there's no hardware cap or something we cannot alter). However, you'd most likely have to tweak some stuff, in order go get the required performance from the hardwareside.
The hardware is capable of taking higher resolution photos, but processing would be slow I think. Also, the camera HAL must support it and we can't alter that.

I've seen this in news.I guess we'd need updated libs but since you guys got camera working with old/new libs, why not give it a shot?
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/add-4k-and-120-fps-to-your-stock-lg-camera/
Even if the hardware is not capable of giving out good fps, I think we could still be able to record 4 k videos at very low FPS.
If you guys can't get this to work, could you atleast tweak the camera to widen ISO values so we get better pictures in the dark? Pretty sure our camera is capable of it and seen some guy doing it for stock ICS camera. He tweaked ISO values and I had tested it.It looked far better compared to stock camera.Unfortunately it's only compatible with ICS.
Even general mobile discovery can take better pictures in the dark and doubt it has a better camera than ours.We just need a few tweaks.

That's my thinking, too. If it were possible, the processing would almost certainly not be handled by camera's hardware. I think it would have to be offloaded to phone's CPU. But, who knows? G2 got 4K with a relatively simple apk modding which means the camera module was hardware-capable to begin with. G Flex, too. Luckily, 4X has the same CMOS as the Nexus 4, Sony's IMX111PQ, and that can be very helpful. Perhaps a new driver is required or just a modded apk, like G2. I'm no dev, so I can't tell or make.
@ottomanhero Sadly, we can't get 4K rec coz CMOS hasn't enough vertical pixels. There's also a problem with encoding the vid on phone's hardware as it would probably be a soft encoder which means the CPU would process it (but that's a huge bite even for the top desktop CPUs). But 2K or 1440p vid might be feasable. Tegra 3 can output up to 2560x1600 meaning we could play it, too, with a normal bitrate.
Well atleast we could improve the ISO range to get better shots under low light conditions.I used to have a phone that's 2 MP and even that one had better pictures in low light conditions. It is proven our cam can handle higher/lower ISO values. We just need some software tweaks.

Do you mean this mod?
If someone can give me original V10f camera.tegra.so and libnvmm_camera.so I could take a look at it for JB+.

I think I've got an ICS system image somewhere on my HDD sec
BTW, gotta talk to you later regarding cam, 'cause I'm not too sure whether or not my idea can even work...
EDIT: Here you go
Hi,
I currently have a Galaxy S2 and am looking to upgrade.
The video camera is a prime reason for the upgrade. Ideally I want something that can record HDR video with optical image stabilisation. Lots of my video is taken handheld in low(ish), high contrast light so I figure both of these features are important. I was hoping to see HDR + OIS in the HTC One M8 announcement, but that didn't happen.
I'd be interested to know a couple of things:
1. How good is the HDR video recording feature? I've struggled to see many reviews/opinions.
2. How good is the OIS?
3. If you were about to upgrade now and had video as a priority, would you think about the HTC One?
I don't know of any other phones that have both HDR video and OIS. My alternative would be to get another camera with OIS - I think on balance this is more important than HDR video. I suppose I could also get HDR video and have either in-phone software stabalisation, or use a PC application to give me the stabalisation.
Cost isn't a massive factor, but I don't see a real "value proposition" I'm thinking of going for a Nexus 5 or LG G2. Although video is important, obviously having a nice fast phone that will last is also appealing, so I've not totally written off the idea a current gen phone I can get in the next month or so.
Any advice on models would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'm far from a video recording expert, but i have used my One for over a year and recorded my first video last week.
It was a stand-up comedian, so it was a hard motive.
Everything around the man on stage was black and with a bright spotlight on the performer.
Started recording with standard setting, and it was hard to find focus when everthing was black or superbright.
Then I switched to HDR recording and got a lot better video with stable focus, with the downside that the black background was more grey. But what the heck, it was better and I can see my motive
What impressed med most was the audio quality of the recordings, really awesome!
Hope this helps you somehow.
I must say I am very impressed with the video quality on the Note 4. The OIS gives video great stability. I have a couple of questions about resolutions/fps and lossless zoom.
1.I heard somewhere that in smooth motion (where it defaults to 1080p) the fps is double that of the note 3 in this mode, ie 120fps. Can anyone confirm this? This would be awesome as unless I'm mistaken we could take 2mp snap shots from the video and these would have an equivalent shutter speed of 1/120 - great for moving objects!
2. Does anyone know how far you can zoom in losslessly in the various resolutions. I've got a feeling it's 1.5x in 1080p but I'm not sure. Would also be interested to know if we can zoom in losslessly at higher resolutions and to what extent. Although shooting in 4k isn't that useful to me, the ability to screenshot 8mp images from any part of the video is a very cool feature.
