I hate that this phone can't get updates at a reasonable time. I really don't wanna give up this phone but the lack of OEM updates is killing me.

We didn't even get Ginger bread yet I have no faith in this phone or LG or AT&T

peace of sht lg... i gave my sgs2 for the thrill 4G 2 days ago and the only reason i did that is because of the ICS that promised untill the end of 2012
i want my sgs2 back

There isn't a snowball's chance in hell we're waiting on LG. The p920 has GB in Europe, and it has IDENTICAL hardware. The blame lies solely on AT&T, and, unless they surprise us real quick, their breaking of their agreement with Google.

The lg thrill is a great phone and would live to keep it for awhile but android 2.2 really? And wait for maybe ics let alone gingerbread i should have kept my captivate. You know what sucks someone is porting ics for it and we can't get even gingerbread WTF ATT.

Every android phone IS getting updated to 4.0 because google thinks its easier to have the same OS for all droids so eventually the LG Thrill will get the ice cream sandwich update

That theory would only make sense if Google developed android for each device... which they don't.

How long has this phone been out? Like 90 days? Maybe running on almost 4 months? Yes, I know that GB has been out for awhile but we all purchased the phone knowing it could take up to a year to receive GB. We also know that LG and AT&T are not hte most timely on updates.
Yes yes I know it's a forum. But it seems like half the threads in this section is about being upset that we don't have GB or ICS and "I hate this phone!"
If y'all are that unhappy, call AT&T and get a different phone. I think all new phones are under a year long warranty. And just call 'em and tell 'em the phone is shutting down and rebooting randomly.
As for me, I have a couple upgrades open and could trade this phone in if I wanted. But, eh, I'd just rather wait until we get some quad core phones out. Orrrrr...AT&T gets the Galaxy Note. A bigger screen would be sweet.

Um. No. There's a move to get a lot of phones on ICS. But there are a number of devices that will not see ICS at all. Google has even stated that not all phones have the software to run ICS.

Really? Rooted rom or OTA? Cause my buddies is still on 1.6, and my brothers LG Vortex is on something similar. I doubt these phones have had support for a long time now. To claim any phone will have carrier OTA support a year from now seems like a shot in the dark. New phones are coming out every day and to expect more than one sizable update at this point seems preposterous.

My buddy bought an Atrix and was unhappy with the phone entirely for a week until he got GB that changed his opinion completely. I was about to buy an Atrix when I heard about this phone and decided to wait. I (not so) secretly hoped that all the delays meant we were getting GB on launch and pray to the Android gods every night for GB. I had hoped we got it within a month of release at the latest. I'm not sure anyone expected such a long delay for it. I quite like the phone (size and 3D) but am very frustrated by the battery, constant reboots, freezing, ect. I shouldn't have to depend on a 3rd party app (Juice Defender) to block my phone from using the internet just to get it through the day with minimal to no use, and another app (Watchdog) to stop the "Suspend" command from spooling up my processor to full capacity resulting in chain reboots till my phone can get a grip on it OS.
I love my phone, hate all the complaining about it, but really can't blame everyone for doing it. Starting new threads to do it and ****ting up every new thread posted with complaints is getting old but it's to be expected.

I am impatiently waiting the 2.3 update. Unlike most thrill 4g users, i have not experienced the random reboots, but like some users i have been experiencing the wifi with a mind of it's own. i am well beyond my return date, so looks like i am stuck with it...

Ice Cream Sandwich for O2X!

Not sure if everyone here has heard the news from Google's I/O, but they have announced that Google is setting a guideline for updates to phones, and many companies have agreed to give timely updates to their phones for at least 18 months from release.
LG is one of them so this is good news and will most likely mean that our phones will live to see an official Ice Cream Sandwich build
I would be getting it from CM regardless
Does anyone know whether this agreement is retroactive though? Might not include the *2X
First, LG agreed to that terms AFTER the O2X release, so that phone isn't concerned.
Second, they add "if hardware can follow", which is the magical sentence for manufacturer to explain why, finally there will be no update (even if that's total bullsh*t).
Bottom line is, nothing new, still the same.
But, it doen't mean we won't have ice cream Sandwich either
Let's hope for it.
Even though the news are good, Google making some pressure to manufacturers develop android updates, thing is that ice cream is said by Google to be released Q4 2011...hmph, how long for LG2X to have IC? Q2 2012?

I hope we'll get Ice Cream Sandwich. But let LG first bring Gingerbread to us all!
I am doing a noob question... i red about hardware problems of o2x getting ice cream sandwich. I mean that it seems ice cream rom is going to be very heavy, about 500 MB... so the ram available is not sufficient to run this OS... can someone confirm this problem?

It's not so stupid because this could be the excuse for LG to decide to stop ice cream on the 2x like they did with optimus chic: the 01 will be upgraded to gingerbread while the chic (that has similar hardware) will not. It's just commercial strategy.

Yeah i know the difference but the OS is loaded during boot in to the ram isn't it? So how much free ram do you think are you going to find after booting the phone?
Anyway my personal opinion is that this prevision of how much heavy will be ice cream is for tablet's only... i hope phone's one will be smaller

I understand you. I encountered only once the freeze problem and that's all. No problem so far and i tried cm7 and modaco that make this phone incredibly faster. Anyway it's true there are a lot of problems but theese are going to be fixed by lg's software update and then by community. In Italy a lot of people are selling 2x at incredible low prices and i can't understand why...

The Acer Iconia A100 is a Honeycomb tablet with 512MB RAM, so the *2X is gonna be fine.

I'm a CM7 user as well, coming from Nexus S to Optimus 2x and I would say the same only after we got a stable mod. I'm using Nightly #23 right now and it's great... but far from a beast ATM. Let's remember about bluetooth audio problems, no HDMI, 1080p video recording or FM Radio for instance. Nightly CM7 it's already great, but there's a lot of little things to be fixed.
Unexperienced users should keep away for now, is called Nightly and experimental version after-all.
There is HDMI out

Should I get a Thrill?

I currently have an HTC HD7S but being a tech head, I'm getting bored.
Is it worth getting the Thrill or is its already dead in the custom rom area?
Not dead, but calm. In actuality, though, there's been a jumpstart in posting the last couple days and a few have been promising to me. Additionally, GB is now scheduled to be released the 27th for the optimus 3d which should give the thrill a custom gb rom in days by that point. I'm days away from my trade deadline, but I'm staying pretty devoted to the phone I've decided I love. Now if only we could get a stock browser without this damn toolbar at the bottom...

I just picked mine up last Friday. I'm coming off an Atrix, and so far I'm not looking back.
The screen is fantastic, the phone is smooth, and it doesn't seem to have some of the issues the Attic suffers from.
It was between this and the Galaxy S II, and I wanted the HDMI. Also, the Thrill felt better.
Besides gimmick or not, the 3D is cool.

Thanks for the opinions. A family member of my has it and I've had the pleasure of using it. But I'm pretty much set on getting it.
Also, I was reading yesterday the ICS source code is released. Any devs interested in that?
EDIT: Honeycomb is available as well
I was going to say I don't know if I had an upgrade right now if it would be the phone I'd pick. I'd more than likely get a Note. But I've come to really like this phone and wouldn't trade it unless a Thrill with a 4.5 inch screen, 16 gig storage, and ICS came out.
Of course, then it'd still be a Thrill

Hmmmm...I downloaded xScope pro when it was the Amazon free app of the day. But I have yet to use it as my browser. Guess it's time to give it a shot.
IMO, I wouldn't waste my time on the Thrill. I stuck it out for a while thinking that LG actually gave a crap about us, just to be let down. They have committed to a Gingerbread release on the 21st to the International version. No commitment at all to the Thrill other than maybe by the end of December or early January.
With the very slow development going on it, I decided I had enough and jumped to the SGS2 Skyrocket instead. Do I miss the 3D ability?.....Of course. But I gained LTE (when available in my area) and an 8MP camera instead with increased speed over the Thrill and a lot more dev potential (and is going on already).
I would have a hard time now recommending anyone to the Thrill that cares about overall speed and performance, let alone support from the manufacturer. If someone wants 3D and doesn't mind a luke warm device, then the Thrill may suit them fine.
Just my opinion. I had such high hopes for it when I bought it.

Seriously, some people forget it's a phone. Without fast development, it's still a damn good one for now, and with development, it'll be amazing in the future. How many MP my camera is, I couldn't care less. It's more about the size of the cmos sensor than the resolution, and the only phone I'll trade for when it's available, nexus of course, will have one nice 5mp cam. Samsung let me down for way too long with my craptivate, so I can wait a bit for GB again. As for the O3D version, that'll be close enough. Oh, by the time LTE reaches my house (and most), I'm sure I'll be eligable for another upgrade. Loving this phone, despite my few hates.

Ask yourself this question: Do I want ROM selection? The answer to the title of this thread is the opposite of your answer to that question.
If you don't flash ROMs, the Thrill is better than the Atrix or Atrix 2, its definately the best phone in the <$99 price range. But for a little more the GS II (i777 not skyrocket, the skyrocket will be only slightly less of a ghost town than here) is teasing you with so many ROM choices it will burn a hole in your SD card.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
The funny thing is Ive got all the bugs worked out of my Thrill. The thing has ZERO issues for me. I cant think of a single reason not to recommend the Thrill. I could care less about a selection of Roms. Most are just re-themes of the same..exact..thing. All I need is one solid rom and Im golden. That was the thing I LOVED about my Aria. For the longest time there were only 2-3 roms available for it but they were all rock solid and offered everything you could get out of a rom. We had ONE kernel available to us, but it worked flawlessly, so we didnt need anymore kernels. Move along to the Captivate and while I had 200,000 roms to choose from none of them felt finished, half of them were the same rom I had just flashed with a different battery icon, and they all had issues. Even CM7 for the Captivate never felt as solid as it did on my Aria. I never ended up being happy with my Captivate even though it was the "superior "phone to my Aria.
The Thrill is a solid phone. It had a lot of issues upon release and a LOT of people didnt stick around because of that. Gingerbread is here, and from what ive been hearing its already made the Thrill into even more of a beast and its only a pre-release leak (unfortunately I dont have a Windows machine so I cant flash the baseband to even try it ). And with the ICS source released we will have ICS fairly quickly. Gingerbread was a tough port due to ZERO Omap4 devices running it (it wasnt just the Thrill) so we had to try to start from scratch, but the first ICS device has almost the exact CPU (higher clockspeed and better imaging capabilities) and the GPU IS the same. That alone will kickstart development of ICS as we can port ICS rather than try to build it from scratch.
But enough of my ranting Im going to sleep!

I know LG has a horrible reputation on this forum but, I am going to be positive here and give them a chance. If they are announcing in December the roll out dates then I am hoping for a first quarter 2012 release.
Who knows though, I am happy with GB right now and soon you guys will have the option to install GD as well GingerDoom is on its way.

Whether ATT releases it or not doesn't matter, if LG releases it for O3D we get it too. All you would have to do is flash the ICS kdz the same way you flash the GB kdz. ATT hasn't released GB yet but, I am running it just fine.

The Thrill is the Optimistic 3d, which they have not abandoned. The difference is the ATT branding.
If an Official Thrill update doesn't show, its not LG. At this point all ATT needs to do is add their tweaks and push it.

What I don't understand is why nobody tampers with the baseband to make it support Euro and American frequencies. Every other phone I've ever delt with could support that, but it's like the Thrill and Optimus 3D are two complete phones.... Even though they aren't? Nothing makes sense to me anymore
EDIT:
I only have a Thrill because AT&T was handing them out for free in my state (Montana) because of their service hasn't been too great. But from what I see, the Thunderbolt has a better community going on here. I came from a Captivate, and have atleast modded 15-20 different phones, but this phone seems like the red headed step child.

I came from a Captivate, and have atleast modded 15-20 different phones, but this phone seems like the red headed step child.

I think is they try to do the frequnecies thing it might require more work so it might be easier to just use the Euro KDZ for GB or ICS. I'm not sure though they might end up doing it sooner or later. It all dpeneds on the developer.

Forums getting quiet for the Thrill lately :(

I am getting worried that the forums have been pretty quiet for a week or so. I know we are all impatiently waiting for GB (or at least a f'ing baseband) but has everyone given up? This is my first Android phone and I stuck by it and I will have to keep this phone for quite some time so I am getting nervous. With LG saying ICS will be coming to the Thrill, GB shouldnt be a question. Unless LG/AT&T say screw GB and go straight to ICS. Which could be good or bad, depending on how long they would take to get ICS done. If they would just release a GB baseband none of this would matter. Bad business.

Everything's been done developement wise that can be done pretty much until we get some official porting or the CM start putting something out.
I'm just rooting for a quick delivery of ics.

The total lack of support from AT&T and LG has killed it

all you have to do is go over to the optimus 3d. It is no different other than you have to go in to the system folder and mod a file to get 4G. And there is a lot of GB Roms
My replacement phone will be in soon then i will work more on thrill... Got side tracked making Rom for my other phones...
After Christmas i will get a new laptop to work on software my 1.66 ghz laptop just doesn't cut it for developing and it isny very compatible with ubuntu.... Wich i need

is there really for h+? link me please!
I guess everything that can be done has been done so far. Im just really upset at the update process of Android phones. I should have looked into this more as opposed to jumping right in. If it wasnt for the reception issues with the current GB roms I would be fine. I love Android, love this phone, but fragmentation and battery life are making me think twice about this OS.

Bye bye bionic, hello LG spectrum

Psych. I'm not leaving. I just haven't seen anyone make one of these posts about the spectrum so I wanted to do it for ****s and giggles.
Be patient. I'm sure we will get more development when ice cream is released on the bionic.

i was going to say....of all the phones you picked the spectrum?
haha
it has the hardware but all the previews made it look laggy
I went the store yesterday to check it out, it was very solid. Love the screen and it very solid built. It wasn't laggy at all compared to the CES demos videos.
If you recall, the early bionic previewed real laggy too...

I had the LG revolution with its unlocked bootloader and hated it. I will never buy another LG again.

I absolutely love mines when I have it running on
gingervolt 1.3
overclocked it to 1.5 with blitzkrieg 1.0
v6 superercharger rc4 script
some build prop mods
adrenaline shot v13
ics responsive tweaks
disable bytecode
I'm also getting 3900+ on antutu and 3000+ on quadrant
It's also very stable no screen freeze, no lag, no reboots, and it don't get that hot
I get 8hrs on stock battery heavy use, light - medium usage 10 - 15 hrs
Then I got the bionic for xmas so I gave it to a friend and she loves it too
Recently I helped her overclocked it to 1.9 with blitzkrieg 2.1 and she's getting 4200+ on antutu and 3400+ on quadrant
Battery took a hit though but still good enough to last her through 8hrs light - medium usage

Have you tried the 901 update or the eclipse 2.1 rc rom for 901?
Also did you try to overclock?
I'm on eclipse 2.1 rc and overclocked it to 1188 with extended battery and I absolutely love it. I get 17+ hrs on a single charge with heavy usage
With the 901 update it totally fix all the issues I had when on 893
I use to have BSOD every other day and have to pull battery, data drop every few hrs and have to toggle airplane mode to get data back, screen freeze also have to pull battery, losing apps when move to sdcard
But once I did the manual update to 901 the bionic has been great for about a month and fixed all the issues I had mentioned above
I highly recommend doing the 901 update as i see it makes the bionic be the device it should of been
Then I flashed the eclipse 2.1rc rom with safestrap, it improve the responsiveness and battery
Lastly I overclocked it to 1188 and it was amazing with what the bionic can do now how much quicker it respond
Now I really don't mind waiting next year for my upgrade. Till then there will be quadcores galore with hd display and who knows what the intel will bring to the market after seeing what their medfield chip can do and new lithium batteries that's 5-10x better than what's available now.
Hopefully moto/vzw will update it to ics and unlock the bootloader

Gingervolt wasn't out yet when I had the revolution. People were still trying to figure out how to make custom boot animations and rom development came to a standstill until LG released gingerbread. I was the most disappointed that more rom developers didn't jump on it with its unlocked bootloader, which was the only reason I bought it.

LG revolution also had an unlocked bootloader but rom developers didn't jump on it. We actually got more roms with our locked bootloader than they do with theirs unlocked. Be careful what you wish for because sometimes its not.what you want.

Even though there's only a few roms for lg revolution at that time " homeless, revolt, decrap " but it's all good roms like the bionic there's only few roms also yet all still good.
Now with 901 there's only 1 true 901rom which is the eclipse 2.1rc and 3 other compatibles like the eclipse 2.0, liberty 2.0, and ics beta
My friends have the htc thunderbolt and they have many roms but only few is stable most are nightly builts and betas so you gotta stay updated and keep flashing
Coming from LG revolution which have very limited devs I learned as long as there's still support on the phone they can find ways to make the phone better and from what I know some of the devs there working on porting cm7/9 also
There will always have new phones that cause devs to jump ship but as long as the phone still have 1-10 devs remain they'll keep working on it
I think once ics comes out to bionic most dev will jump back in just like the lg revolution when gingerbread came out there's more activity there

I agree. I was kind of making fun of how every time a new phone is announced, we get these types of posts. Since things are slow, I decided to insert some humor into our community.
I believe things will pick up when ics comes around. I dont really have any issues with my phone so I'm able to be patient.

For me, using stock is foreign. It just seems so un-android to me. But I've been rooting phones for 2 years now so rooting an android is second nature for me. Even if I'm not rommed up, I still need to root if only to get rid of bloatware. I support them putting bloatware on the phones, I just dont support them making it so you can't remove the bloatware without rooting. PCs have been putting bloat on for years but they let you remove it if you dont want it. I'm just wondering how many android users are stuck with let's golf on there phone just to never play it.

Example fail. Lets Golf is the only piece of bloat you can uninstall without root.
