Hey guys,
Lately i noticed that all 3rd party web browsers lag on the i9000 without the lag fix... especially the xscope browser which is the fastest out there takes me to load a page without flash enabled about 5 minutes!!! which on other devices loads fully in 20 seconds max. i'm an embedded software developer myself and i know that poor io can screw up things, but not that much!! unless they write every byte from the network stack to the flash drive which i don't believe.
anyways my question is if theres anyone experiencing similar issues and if anyone got an idea why this happens?
My overview of 3rd party browsers is the same as well, stock kills them all.
No browser in terms of smoothness comes close to the stock browser imho.
well on the i9000 unfortunately it's right but on my friends htc desire xscope is way faster than the stock browser and im not even gonna talk about features like faking the user agent and real tabbed browsing
The issue is that installing 1.1 seems to cause DolphinHD to adopt the same pinch-zoom behavior as the stock browser. It is noticeably more laggy and seems to constantly try to do some sort of scaling/page formatting/text wrap or something that adds an extra half second to every simple zoom action. It also seems to "grab" links as I'm zooming and registers them as long presses, something it doesn't do with 1.0.1. It feels less precise and just wonky, which is frustrating because I'm 100% happy with the way it works before I upgrade.
1.1 has some very tangible benefits that I would like to have, but I use my NC primarily as a web browsing tablet when I'm not reading and this issue has been a deal-breaker for me in regards to leaving 1.0.1. I've upgraded to 1.1 several different times, using several different methods, but always end up switching back after using DolphinHD for a few minutes.
Am I the only one that notices this? Is there some sort of system-wide "engine" that handles pinch-zoom? And if there is, would it be possible to block those related files from updating?
EDIT: I've made a short/sloppy video to demonstrate the problem I'm having a little better. The quality is pretty bad, but it shows the lag and link "grabbing" issues fairly well. I should also mention that I've now tried DolphinHD 4.2/4.3/4.4, Dolphin Mini and the stock browser on 1.1 and they all behave identically in this regard. The only change between the first clip and the second is the upgrade from 1.0.1 to 1.1.
Here's the video.
I'm on 1.1 autonooter 3. My NC was shipped with 1.0.1 and I spent little to no time on 1.0.1 before I upgraded and rooted.
For what it's worth, the stock browser does pinch zoom on 1.1.
However, If you prefer Dolphin, I can understand that.
I have read that if you downgrade dolphin, you can get more stability. Not sure if you will retain pinch zoom or not. I do not use dolphin so I can't confirm.
I should have mentioned that this is with DolphinHD 4.2 on both 1.0.1 and 1.1.
Basically,
DolphinHD 4.2 + 1.0.1 = perfect, lag free pinch-zoom
DolphinHD 4.2 OR 4.3 OR 4.4 OR Mini + 1.1 = weird, laggy pinch-zoom
My uneducated guess is that there is some sort of underlying engine that handles pinch-zoom and page formatting/scaling that gets changed during the 1.1 upgrade. I've fiddled with all of the settings in the stock browser and Dolphin and none of them change this behavior. I haven't tested with any of the other 3rd party browsers.
Miemens, it is in the changelog of the app in the marketplace. Looks like they are working on a fix and workaround is last version.

That is a different issue. My problem is that pinch-zoom behaves completely differently between 1.0.1 and 1.1, both running the identical version (4.2) of DolphinHD.
Have you tried Dolphin Mini? I found that while it doesn't have pinch to zoom on 1.0.1, it is much faster and smoother when compared to any other browser. However, I did read that Dolphin Mini's pinch to zoom works on 1.1, so perhaps it would behoove you to try it out.

I just gave Mini a try and it does the same thing. I also tried DolphinHD 4.3 and the brand new 4.4 and they do it as well.
Have you tried another browser?? I found Dolphin slow and quirky, where Opera 10 works awesome on the NC (and on my Nexus One).
I've tried Opera Mobile under 1.0.1 and didn't like it. I'm mainly trying to figure out what it is exactly that changes between 1.0.1 and 1.1 to cause a behavior difference in Dolphin. I'm very very satisfied with Dolphin HD 4.2 under 1.0.1.
Dolphin HD is awesome...but...no pinch to zoom

Hey there, i have NC 1.0.1. rooted via auto-nooter, i've been taking care of random issues, and i'm stuck on this zoom thing. I can use the gestures with Dolphin and created one that will zoom the screen, but i thought from reading about Dolphin, and by reading this post which i searched to find if this was already being discussed that this browser indeed should do pinch to zoom. For me though, it isn't working. I looked at Dolphin's menu for a setup area where maybe it wasn't enabled right away, but no dice. Anybody know how to get it if it's not immediately working?
thanks in advance!!

With 1.0.1 you have to downgrade to DolphinHD 4.2, which is available on their website (though that seems to be down right now) to keep pinch-zoom from breaking altogether.
I wonder if anyone was able to port browser from HC for the GB? Everything we have is fairly slow and rendering issues.
I love the stock browser on CM7 harmony but no tabs and some issues with rendering on huffingtonpost as well as mint.com.
Umm, Miren Browser Runs flawlessly for me....
Dolphin HD is also very good, just has a slight issue with Flash Frames when scrolling but is perfectly usable.
I think it may need the 3.0 framework to work if pulled, I could be wrong though.
Dolphin is the way to go if you want tabs.

Can this be ported to Gingerbread in general or to CM7 maybe?
I always thought of the android stock browser being chrome, but regardless no i doubt it just wait till its released for other version by google i seriously doubt your missing much.... firefox turned out to be utter crap.
I would love that
I would love that because it was really glitchy in NOVA CM9, but now I'm using modded gingerbread and using dolphin
there is no way to port chrome to android versions below 4.0. Sorry. It just requires full hardware acceleration, which we dont have either way..
i tried all (and i mean ALL) the browsers i could find, opera was darn good, but eats a LOT of ram (i was playing music and browsing with opera and suddenly the music player got killed...wtf. and opera process was using 170 mb of ram).
so, the best browser is ....maxthon browser, its smoother than dolphin for me, almost same smoothness as opera, has some cool features and gestures. try it out
Hi guys,
The official CM7 rom for our galaxy ace has the stock browser and it's super laggy in some webpages.
I searched google for a hardware acceleration ( wich is in the stock roms) and I didn't found it.
Anyone knows how to activate that hw acceleration?
Sorry for my bad english
change browser is the only solution possible for you
use opera mini, it does have HW acc, and compress data too.....
if you wanna full browser experience, then use opera mobile....
booth available at playstore
UCbrowser is the best android browser its the only browser that truely speeds up page loading give it a try it's definitely worth it.
