3G data not working - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently upgraded a cappy from 2.2 to stock 2.3.3 with Heimdall. 3G data does not work, but wifi and voice do work. Any ideas on how to fix this?

What does it say under settings>about phone>baseband ?

^
+1 If u do have a modem listed under the Baseband version, Then u probably need to go into the Settings and go under the Access Point Names and hit the menu button and select Reset to default.

[q] no data connection in froyo or eclair please help

Hey guys i have no data connections on my sgs since i first flashed to 2.2 , i have since flashed back to 2.1 for better stability but just cant get any internet connection working ,. I have tried everything with inputting apn's both manually and sending from samsung website but nothing works?
Is there anyone who can help ? Im getting desperate.
In the phone info section it states that " gprs service disconnected" what does this mean?
Try : Settings>>Wireless and network>>Mobile networks and change Network mode to GSM/WCDMA(auto mode).
And you have to cover the part showing your IMEI number in picture number 5.
thanks for the reply ramad, but i have that option set.
any more ideas what to do

I have no more suggestions beside making a new APN and entering that data manually. I can see that you are using a customized ROM which I don't know, because I only use regular firmwares.
Already tried that thanks ramad

Did you lock and unlock the phone after you booted it up? That will usually solve problems like that on cm7. If not, try another modem.
As for browser load times, mine is blazing on both stock browser and Firefox. Yours should be too.

Just that...hit the power button briefly to turn off your screen, press it again to show the lock screen, then unlock it. Doing that right after booting up tends to solve lots of weird performance issues left over from booting.
As for modem, I am using JPG and it is doing pretty well for me right now. They are easy to flash however, so download a few from sourceforge and try them out.
i guess i did lock and unlock, just not sure if right after boot.
anyways, how do i know which modem i have? and should that really help making the internet speed better? thats really the only issue i have with the rom

APN list is blank and new APNs cannot be added

I flashed AOKP Milestone 6 last night and have been setting up this Captivate as my boyfriend's first smart phone but I've run into a problem: I can't seem to save an APN. He'll be using it on Straight Talk so I checked out this thread: Straight Talk APN Settings. I entered all that information into their fields, hit menu > save, and was taken back to a blank screen titled "APNs."
I've tried this three times and rebooted each time but always in vein. I thought that it may be this way because there is no SIM card inside but, were that the case, why wouldn't APNs change with the SIM card? Any help would be very welcome. I just want him to be able to slip his SIM card into the phone and bask in the glory that is the smart phone without having to fix anything. Cars are his thing, computers are mine.

I thought that was what you meant.
Yes. Both are the same.
Good. Just trouble-shooting some.
But I'm not sure why the apns are not sticking...

It was soft-bricked for a while but the download mode jig allowed me to Odin back to stock before moving to AOKP.
Did u see this post in the straight talk thread u linked in ur op ??
Seems having the "Proxy: Not set" and "Port: Not set" worked for some users.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31056982
And the MMSC is different than the OP of that thread.

I did. It doesn't seem to matter what I put in or don't (aside from the four required fields: Name, APN, MCC, and MNC) it'll let me either save or back out but always take me back to the blank APN list.
Ok...see this... http://tracfone.deviceanywhere.com/...Id=893&cid=557921&conversationPropagation=end
The settings are different...
Maybe this will work for ya. :good:
Worth a try at least.

They didn't list any values for the MCC and MNC, both of which are required. I used the values given in the XDA post, hit save, and was taken back to a blank APN list.
I don't think that the contents matter. It seems to be something else.
I wonder how the APNs are stored. If it's something like an XML file somewhere on the phone then it could be that the permissions are wrong and Android can't write to the file. I'll try using Clockwork Mod to fix the permissions and see if that helps. There's also a feature in AOKP to have a script do it every startup; I'll try it as well and report back.
No dice. If it's a permissions issue it's not something that either could fix.
U may have to try a different Rom.
?? Don't know what the deal is...

I'm working on redownloading milestone 6 to reflash but if that doesn't work then I'll swap ROMs. Thanks for your help.
[Update] I redownloaded and reflashed AOKP Milestone 6 and still have the same issue. Time to try some other ROMs and hope. [/Update]

Judging from the fact that I saw Straight Talk apns listed above I'm assuming you are on that? Anyway if the answer to that is yes I might suggest CM10 or HellyBean both of which have the proper APNs entered by default for Straight Talk.

[Q] 3G problems with JB.

So i've flashed several jb and ics roms, but i simply cant find whats wrong. So heres the thing; When i install a jb rom, i cant connect to 3G,2G ect, instead theres a small r next to the signal bar. I've tried several modems, but i've failed with many. The ones that worked, but had massive ping and really slow download speed were KB3 and KF1. The internet works great when i go back to 2.3.3 stock.
I live in Finland and my provider is Saunalahti.
So, any ideas?

If you've got a virtual provider you need only check national data roaming (might not be available in every ROM, it's a CM option)

Sorry if this a noob question but I did plenty of searching and can't find anything. I assume it has something to do with 4.2.2 and then going back to 4.1.1. what am i missing .Thanks in advance

Have you gone to Settings -> Mobile data -> Network operators -> Select automatically or manually searched and selected your carrier? ROM's did this for me when I flashed them so I had to select it through that menu.
