I flashed AOKP Milestone 6 last night and have been setting up this Captivate as my boyfriend's first smart phone but I've run into a problem: I can't seem to save an APN. He'll be using it on Straight Talk so I checked out this thread: Straight Talk APN Settings. I entered all that information into their fields, hit menu > save, and was taken back to a blank screen titled "APNs."
I've tried this three times and rebooted each time but always in vein. I thought that it may be this way because there is no SIM card inside but, were that the case, why wouldn't APNs change with the SIM card? Any help would be very welcome. I just want him to be able to slip his SIM card into the phone and bask in the glory that is the smart phone without having to fix anything. Cars are his thing, computers are mine.

I thought that was what you meant.
Yes. Both are the same.
Good. Just trouble-shooting some.
But I'm not sure why the apns are not sticking...

It was soft-bricked for a while but the download mode jig allowed me to Odin back to stock before moving to AOKP.
Did u see this post in the straight talk thread u linked in ur op ??
Seems having the "Proxy: Not set" and "Port: Not set" worked for some users.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31056982
And the MMSC is different than the OP of that thread.

I did. It doesn't seem to matter what I put in or don't (aside from the four required fields: Name, APN, MCC, and MNC) it'll let me either save or back out but always take me back to the blank APN list.
Ok...see this... http://tracfone.deviceanywhere.com/...Id=893&cid=557921&conversationPropagation=end
The settings are different...
Maybe this will work for ya. :good:
Worth a try at least.

They didn't list any values for the MCC and MNC, both of which are required. I used the values given in the XDA post, hit save, and was taken back to a blank APN list.
I don't think that the contents matter. It seems to be something else.
I wonder how the APNs are stored. If it's something like an XML file somewhere on the phone then it could be that the permissions are wrong and Android can't write to the file. I'll try using Clockwork Mod to fix the permissions and see if that helps. There's also a feature in AOKP to have a script do it every startup; I'll try it as well and report back.
No dice. If it's a permissions issue it's not something that either could fix.
U may have to try a different Rom.
?? Don't know what the deal is...

I'm working on redownloading milestone 6 to reflash but if that doesn't work then I'll swap ROMs. Thanks for your help.
[Update] I redownloaded and reflashed AOKP Milestone 6 and still have the same issue. Time to try some other ROMs and hope. [/Update]

Judging from the fact that I saw Straight Talk apns listed above I'm assuming you are on that? Anyway if the answer to that is yes I might suggest CM10 or HellyBean both of which have the proper APNs entered by default for Straight Talk.

Well you need to write back you apn settings for your carrier.
That is one thing that you should have made a backup of before you flashed.
These settings you can often find on your carrier webpage.

I flashed to Milky's ROM on i9000m using odin, and it boot looped, so I flashed with Milky's but no modem. And then flashed a modem. it booted but I had no service. I then tried 10 or so stock firmwares, and none did the trick. I finally fix my product code to get Kies to update, and kies updated to the newest gingerbread. But even after that, I still have no service. Does anyone know whats going on? Is the phone ruined?
ANY help would be greatly appreciated, I spent over 48 hours on this already, and I can't do it myself anymore.
Ok, I had this issue with mine, now I semi bricked my i9000 flashing modems to try and fix this issue, but i had to take it to a shop, i saw this on his screen on a Simpley Honey Rom on XDA.
HOW TO CHANGE THE CSC WITH YOUR COUNTRY CODE:
- Into the DIALER write *#272*XXXXXXXXXXXX# where X series is your IMEI (show the IMEI with *#06#)
- Select your country CODE
- Click on INSTALL
- Wait until it reboots and it do a wipe (automatically)
- Do the first boot
- Enjoy!
But find out ure country code first. And do not try this if ure unsure, remember Im saying I saw a guy that owns a Phone repair shop do it with my phone.

Yeah, I tried like 4 or 5 different ones. AT&T, T-Mobile, Telus, some with active service and some not.
I would take it to service centre maybe, worth asking them,

I'm trying to sim unlock my exhibit sgh-t759to use on a prepaid carrier I already rooted the phone and have the nv_data.bin file on my pc . Im supposed to get the code out of that file by using a text editor or a hex editor but I tried both but don't know what or where exactly that number is.
I've included(I think) the bin file so maybe one of you guys can take a look and help me unlock the phone.Thanks.

I and I'm sure others are well aware of the law however the entire basis of the rule is under the pretence that you do not own the phone because it is under contract and each monthly installment will get you closer to actually owning the phone. I however bought this phone without a contract and android under the GPL licensing is open source therefore in my case I can unlock the phone (which tmobile all ready did for me). So on a superfluous layer I can see why you think it is illegal but it is not.

Are you using CWM? Did you rename the backup folders? If the folders have spaces in them you will get a mismatch.
Yeah I just renamed them, but I undid it and got it to restore thanks. But I have another problem, the xda app is acting up, when I wanna reply it won't let me hit the previous text to quote unless I click the absolute very bottom. Idk if anyone else has had that problem
