Flashable cwm zip to remove OnScreenPhone completely! - LG Optimus 2x

Hallo everybody,
I created a flashable zip, that removes the OnScreenPhone app and its components (drivers etc.). This will save a lot of battery in GB roms, because it doesn't remove the app only.
I attached the zip file. Flash it with cwm but do a backup before for safety.
And for all of them, who want modified settings.apk:
Here's a cwm package with modified V20o settings.apk without OSP and updater (you can remove omadmclient.apk to save ram):
http://www.multiupload.com/HP117RIEYD

What is the difference when using your zip flash and freezing it with titanium?

The zip file removes the complete app (apk and odex) and the bin and lib files (drivers etc.).
If you only freeze the app, the drivers and other components consump battery tough. The zip removes the app, 2 bin files and 2 lib files.

this is very useful! thank you man

I have only froze it with Titanium, but have found a guide for completely remove it manually and then you came in perfect timing with flashable zip .

stupid question but how do u install this zip?

The same way you always installs .zip
In the recovery menu

is it normal that the reboot take server minutes? for a moment I thought it had corrupted the rom and I was preparing smartflash xD

Sounds good. But If I want to install it back, can I do it from a Titanium restore of the app or a full CWM restore?

You can make a cwm restore, then you've it again.

hi, do the zip also remove the "On Screen Phone settings" on Setting.apk? Thanks

After flashing through CWM, I still continue to have the OSP menu in the settings ....anything more to do?
Thanks in advance

OSP is an app to control the phone with the pc.

i will try it. thanks for your work

Nice job! Happy to see a freed menu now.

Thanks a lot. I can't understand this "feature", why i should connect my phone with a pc to do the same things i can do with device directly? Makes sense only if the screen is damaged... for this little advantage, there is big disadvantage -> less battery life. LG, sell a phone with small RAM, but having xxx senseless background tasks running in stock.

No, this app can be very useful, as you have many more features than mass storage connection.
But I prefer using non branded apps like Remote Web Desktop or even vnc server apps, as they are not specific to a phone and can be used the same way if you change your device or if you have several different devices (like a phone and a tablet etc..)

MyRootBackup is what you are looking for. Save apps as apk's(Android Package) which will allow you to restore and install your apps.
If its a custom rom you can add apps to the data file within the rom rezip and sign it .
Custom rom unzip opens to folders DATA folder put apps in and use the signing rom script to rezip and sign then install as normal .
I prefer to save the APK to SD card and install from that .
jje
titanium backup does that
yeah i finally paid for the pro version woohoo lol i was just rrying to find an alternative method, but being a flash-aholic its well worth it, for the 0 click restore, my thumbs ache after installing 100+ apps manually lol. thanks for all your comments

[ZIP] Sick of losing all your installed apps/widgets when flashing a ROM? Look here!

I don't know about you, but I was sick of that.
I flash new ROMs a few times a day on my phone, losing my /data/app apps some times a day.
So I made a flashable zip that solves this problem.
This ZIP is ONLY for pushing apps into /data/app!
Right, there are a few things you need:
- The flashable zip, download it below
- Root Explorer
- WinZip
Do the following:
- Using Root Explorer, copy the apps installed in /data/app to /sdcard
- They will have names like com.***.***-1, leave them like that. DO NOT RENAME!
- Connect your phone through USB to your PC
- Copy the apps from /sdcard to your pc
- Unzip 'data_app_install.zip' and put the apps into /data/app
- Select '/META-INF' and '/data', rightclick, 'Add to archive'
- Choose .ZIP as type
- Let it zip
- Copy the new .ZIP file to your external SD
- Flash a new ROM
- Flash the new .ZIP file containing your /data/app apps
- Reboot and enjoy!

Does it keep also all the settings in the apps?
When the app settings are saved in the app itself, then yes.
When the app settings are saved somewhere else (meaning NOT in /data/app), then no.
Does that mean it should also be possible to exchange the data folder in a ROM zip and flash it directly with it?
When you know how to edit the updater-script so that it adds the /data folder to your phone aswell, then, yeah, it's possible.
I haven't found the mounting command for /data tho so I can't help you there.
my backup root
My backup root sukcs, it did not recover any settings for me. Titanium backup is nice, but it takes too long to get the apps one by one.
<3 this but is there any way how i could backup app data which are not saved in data/app?

I can explain that one for you.. You came from a stock MRXX rom, flashed a CM7 nightlies and lost your backed up data.. Because MyBackup uses 1st sd partition on stock rom, and sd-ext/mnt on CM7.. Your backup is still there after flash, you just need to move it from sd to sd-ext..

[Q] Questions after rooting.

After reading the manual provided in this thread, I decided to root my Galaxy Ace.
Rooting went well and installing CWM5 too. After installing CMW, I made a backup.
Now I want to uninstall some system apps that I don't use, such as Samsung apps.
I keep finding the same answers:
Go to System\apps folder, find the app you want to delete and delete it. But won't that just remove the installation file and leave the program installed?
Second question:
If I decide to flash a new ROM (say CM9), where does my old ROM go and how do I keep programs that I have now (Think free office) in my new ROM?
By the way, this is what you're working with:
Me: much experience with Windows, none with Android.
Samsung Galaxy Ace, Dutch T-Mobile branded Phone.
Thanks for taking the time to read and answer me.
Rob.
Hi,
Okay, after you rooted, you cannot just delete an item right away, i think you need to set permission first before you can delete a system file.
so make sure you set permission first so you can do changes in your system file.

when you flashed a different rom, your old rom will be fully deleted, however make sure you follow the correct procedure in CWM, and also for your apps that you don't want to be deleted everytime you flash a new rom, kindly make a backup.. Titanium Backup app is free in google store and very usefull.. and regarding deleting or editing a system file, you need to set permission to do that, you can try to use Es file manager for that.
hope i helped.

Is not necessary to change permissions in /system/app folder, the only you need is to mount /system partition as R/W to delete or modify whatever you want, use root explorer (e.g.) to do it, because /system apps have the 644 permissions (THE ROOT USER IS ALLOWED TO EDIT THIS FILES)
And yes titanum back up is a great tool, but all GB apps won't work properly in CM roms so sometimes to restore apps using TB is really painful, you can find at Google Playstore similar apps as ThinkFree even the same app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tf.thinkdroid.amlite so be careful with TB

1. If you remove .apk file you'll remove the app, but not data files
2. I've already explained it
Thanks for your quick replies. I see I still have a lot of learning to do.
@Viper: Can you post a link to your reference on how to remove the datafiles?
I think I'll wait with flashing a ROM, until I completely know what I'm doing.

There is no reference, just instal TB and do it deleting data (TB can also clean your cache and dalvik-cache partition even backup your apks and data) or use a filebrowser as root explorer go to /system/app, mount it as R/W and delete what you want, be careful with apps as SystemUI, Statusbar, Phone, Contacts, etc
well you could have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542749
Thanks for your quick and clear help Viper.
I've seen references tot Titanium Backup. As I understand it, you can compare it to the 'uninstall software' in the Windows settings on a normal computer.
I use 'Total commander' as file explorer, I don't know if this does the same as 'Root explorer', but it does have root rights.
What's the difference between CWM and Titanium Backup. I read that I should make a backup using CWM. But after some research, I now see that I have to use TB aswell to make a backup. All in all a bit confusing.

CWM can backup your whole rom with all you user data(includes all your apps!), etc.
TB can only backup apps
Now you could think: When CWM backups the rom and my data + apps why I need TB?
The answer is that you can only restore the full rom in CWM. You can restore single apps.
In TB you can restore single apps.
You can use any file explorer with root permissions to delete system apps. Idk, but I like Root Explorer, because of its easy usage

well thats my peraonal problem. It encourages me. N I believe it!!
Since u r totally new I would like u to use a slightly different and easier to understand approach.
Its similar to what others hav said but i feel a lot easier for newbies.
Steps.
1. Install ES File Explorer.
2. Go to system/apps.
3. From options click on TOOLS
4. Then click Root Explorer or Root manager Option.
5. You see the option to uninstall system app. Click on it. Long press the app u wana delete. And uninstall.
To reatore apps from previous ROM.
1. Create a backup of that ROM using CWM.
2. Download Nandroid Manager on your new ROM.
3. Click on the Backup File displayed.
4. Restore the apps you want.
I hope this was usefull.

After all of your suggestions, I did some research about deleting system apps and freeing up memory. On a Dutch forum, someone said that if you delete system apps, it doesn't give you space for new apps, because this memory space is reserved.
Can anyone tell me if that is correct, or does the answer form Omega_Warrior really free up memory?
Now I've come across a new item: Bootanimations.
I have found a lot of bootanimations on XDA. Problem is, my Phone has .qmg files, instead of .zip files. Some forums suggest that you can rename the Original files to 'bootsamsung.qmg'.bak' and replace them with the .zip files. Other forums insist that you need the .qmg format, in order to make the bootanimation work.
Which of the comments is true?

Yes if u delete a system App u do free up some space but that space cannot be used by u unless u install an app as a system app... But it still frees up space, reduces background process and in some cases affects performance in positive way.

Well you can transform useful apps as Operamini or Quickpic as system app using Titanium backup e.g. so you can use this free space as you elwant...
About Bootanimations you need to flash a CUSTOM KERNEL (CF-ROOT, BATTERY EXTENDER,...) to enable this feature and the correct path, if you don't flash it you can't use this path and bootanimation.zips

New ROM
OFF TOPIC
Instead of starting a new topic, I decided to post my question in this topic. Just incase someone else is following the same path as I am.
Back on topic:
I found this ROM review and I'm thinking about installing it to my Galaxy Ace.
Here is the link to the review: http://www.technobuzzing.com/sgs-ii-v11-2-samsung-galaxy-ace-custom-rom/
These are the steps I intend to follow:
Create a backup of all my personal files.
Use Titanium backup and CWM to backup the Phone itself.
Next steps:
Boot into CWM
Choose 'wipe data/factory reset'.
Choose 'Wipe cache'.
Choose 'Advanced' and 'wipe dalvik cache'.
'Install zip from SD-card'.
If I left any safety precautions out, or missed a step, please tell me.
Anyone who has this ROM installed, feel free to share your comments on this ROM.
@Omega Warrior: The QMG files for the bootanimations are aparently a Samsung thing.
Thanks for any reactions.

The most important a CWM backup just in case something goes wrong and you'll need to go back so perfect!
I used this rom, IMO all SpaceCaker works are amazing. He is one of the best themer we have
About QMG files, yes only stock or mainly stock roms have QMG files as bootanimation. Custom roms always or almost always have bootanimations in .zip files, this is allowed due to the custom kernels that support this kind of tweaks, so custom rom = custom bootanimation.zip (mainly)

How exactly do I uninstall and reinstall my adb drivers?

I'm trying to fix the "daemon started successfully" problem, but I don't think I'm uninstalling and re-installing the driver correctly, I just uninstall the device from device manager, then plug the phone back in and let it install.
That must be wrong because it's not working. The program I'm trying to use is xUltiamte2.4 to deodex my phone.

Why is that a problem? You want the "daemon" to start successfully, ADB won't work if it doesn't... If it stays stuck on that, maybe you have some program interfering/using ADB. Maybe you have some other ADB program open (flashtool) or maybe you use Bluestacks; check your running processes for a running "adb.exe" process and kill it, then try again.
Removing the drivers should should work as you're doing it already, but before connecting your phone, you should reinstall the drivers first. Or, once it's installed, manually update the drivers through the Windows "Device Manager", by locating the "sa0105adb.inf" file manually.
It can be extracted from the drivers installer (the one that comes with Flashtool) with 7zip, or you might find it still in your temp folder.

Nothing works, isn't there a better way of deodexing then using this stupid program?
Edit: I have a better question. The only reason I want to deodex is so that I can debloat using this guide, that thread already gives me the list of bloatware, isn't there a way I can just go in and manually delete the bloat? Without have to worry about deodexing in order to get the debloat script to run?

Actually you can also debloat your rom while its odexed. At least as long as the framework is not changed.
Just do a backup, then get a root file manager and delete the safe to remove apps and their odex files. Reboot afterwards.
The only reason why the debloat script doesn't support odexed roms ia that the odex files are not deleted during the script. (However, it would be easily possible to add these lines)

The odex files are in the same folder, and have the same name aside from the .odex extension.
Then again, that program sometimes has issues; you could always copy the files from /system/app and /system/framework manually without using ADB to the corresponding folders, after starting the program open the Windows Task Manager and kill of the "adb.exe", and the program will continue running and let you deodex the files. Then you'd just have to figure out how to copy them back which is not hard.
Or you could also try a different deodexing program such as Universal Deodexer V4. I've never used any of those since I've deodexed my ROM with dsixda's Rom Kitchen, for which you'd just need to follow the instructions and then copy the resulting files manually (as you'd have to do in the above mentioned example anyway).

I don't mean I want to manually deodex, I mean I want to manually debloat, deleting the appropriate APK and ODEX file from /system/app seems easy enough, but what would I delete (if anything) from the /system/framework folder?

I know, I'm just giving you a solution since that program you're using has always given me issues, and even now, knowing that ADB works, it still get's stuck on that "starting ADB daemon" message.
I'm not trying to be rude, but if you're following the guide you'd have noticed that nothing gets deleted from the framework folder. All it tells you are which apps are safe to remove; whichever apps you do end up removing are up to you. I think the Google Talk app is garbage, but someone else might use it, so debloating is also subjective.
Also, you could just as easily do this with Titanium Backup and actually just freeze the app first in case you're not sure about deleting it.

I know, manually deodexing that way would cause a bootloop because of missing classes.dex files in every system app.
Some people that dont like the preinstalled Sony apps prefer getting rid of all the bloat and remove SemcGenericUXPRes.apk from framework folder.. And some (or most) of the framework jar files beginning with "com.sony..."
This will of course bring noticeable smoothness increases, but is very likely to cause bugs when not done by experienced users.
And it could cause a bootloop on odexed builds as the odex files in system/app do no longer fit to the framework.
Just for information.

I'm just gonna use titaniums backups freeze feature, I never knew it could do that.
I don't suppose someone somewhere has listed which of the com.sony*** files are safe to disable have they?

TiBu's freeze doesnt help against some apps. They keep running in background but are no longer shown in Settings or Greenify.
Nope, but you might check any flashable "Xperia Media App port" zip. The more complete, the better.
The files that are included in framework folder are usually safe to remove. :good:

I have yet to see this happen. Maybe you can point me to one example, since I'd like to test this?

OmniSwitch.
Add it to Greenify first, then freeze it and reboot. Check Greenify main activity and you'll see.
Was getting on my nerves for two months, till I finally decided to uninstall it.

Well, don't know why you would add it to Greenify first, makes no sense, but nonetheless, you're right. But then again, this might be due to the way OmniSwitch is integrated into OmniRom in order to use it for the Recent Apps switch. I don't remember this happening on Carbon, which also has OmniSwitch without that integration. I'm on Omni right now so I can't verify this.
In Titanium Backup some apps are red, any idea why?
I'm going to disable two of those com.sony things every morning, but most of them are red.

Most of the framework stuff cannot be disabled, it has to be uninstalled because Dalvik cache would have to be rebuilt when its gone.
I suggest trying doenen's heavily debloated 4.3 rom. Or at least having a look at its apps and framework to see what he has removed. :good:

Titanium Backup has a help section which explains the colors. A red colored app means it's a System Service. I'm sure you can open the help section and check out what the other colors mean.
And as @WhiteNeo said, having a look at some other debloated ROM will help you decide what you can remove or not; don't disable or uninstall something just for the sake of disabling it. Find out what it's for and then decide if you need it, or if your Rom needs it in order to function properly.
If it's of any help you can use this as a reference. I made that back when I used to use Stock ROMs .

Just confirming that @WhiteNeo is right. Even on Carbon Omniswitch's process is still active even though it's frozen/disabled. It doesn't consume RAM as far as I can tell, but this is odd behavior.

Replacing Sony's apps

I'm looking for a way to replace the system apps with their AOSP counter part.
E.g. dialer, email, contacts etc.
Does someone know if it's possible for all apps or are their any problems to be expected?
And second question, is there probably a flash able zip for this?
I'd be curious to know as well. Coming from a Nexus device I hate Sony's attempts to "improve" the basic apps like dialer and messaging. They all look like they were designed in 1998.
That should be possible....

I think at the moment there is no available zip. You need CWM for your idea - do you have your phone rooted ?
If so there should be a possiblity to create such a flashable zip , that erase the not needed apps and install the new apps...
If your phone is not rooted maybe a batch file could do the trick via ADB for you - in a first step it should block the not wanted apps and in a second step it should install the new apps.
So you need the Names of the packages / apps that should be erased and before that, you should find the AOSP-Apps that run on the Z3C.

Yes it's rooted.
I would be happy too, to replace the dialer & contact apps with AOSP ones.
Regarding messaging, i'm using this one : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fr.slvn.mms
Collecting of required information
Hi folx,
in this post i try to get all required information to replace the not wanted SONY stuff by the desired stuff mostly AOSP.
Your phone should be rooted and CWM should be installed.
Then we have to build a fitting flashable zip file.
But to succeed we fist need to test if the wanted apps will work on our phone. (i will test for example: Dialer from CM11)
If these Apps work, then we should have a deeper look on the creating of such a flashable.zip file. I have found a lot of howtos in the web. But to be sure we should backup those SONY-Apps
Here are 2 links i would use:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-hacking-modding-fuer-lenovo-ideapad-a1/268272-how-cwm-update-zips-erstellen.html german
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721680 english here at XDA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2764533 this can also be useful
The updater - script within this zip-file could be adjusted to our needs. Deleting the not wanted Sony.apps from /system /app and replace them with the wanted Apps. If i find the time i could provide such a file - but i can't test it.
The simple Trick:
But you could do it more simple - you just need a root explorer (i prefer ES File Explorer). Go to the above mentioned folder /system/app or system/private. There you should find the not wanted apps. Just copy them in a backup folder on your sdcard, delete the sony apk in the system - partition, copy your desired apk in the folder, where you have deleted the Sony-apk, give the right permissions and then reboot.
If the new app fails - just delete it in the same manner as described above and copy the backupped app in the corresponding folder and check the permissions again. - reboot.
I would really appreciate posting your results and if there are any further questions.... do not hesitate - we are all here to learn and get our phone better
Cheers
Rhonin
I probably have time to test this on the weekend.
I'll let you know how it goes.
I copied over Contacts, Contacts Prvovider and the Dialer apks.
However I couldn't get them to work.
Neither the Contacts nor the Dialer app showed up in the app drawer.
Email didn't work either.
Deskclock works fine. I'd love dialler to work...
