i have rooted my galaxy s through odin and i am using darky's rom 10.2, now i have to factory reset my galaxy s, so i wanted to ask that whether is it safe to factory reset my galaxy s from the privacy menu or not???
please help
Yes it's safe, but remember you're gonna lose anythin on your internal sd-card. So make a backup with titanium first of your apps (and data, like the history of whatsapp ).
If you want to get more geeky, you could do a wipe from the Recovery mode too by using the 3 button combination.
To go back to Original stock rom-i9000
To go back to the original stock rom, use the link:

flash through Odin....my recommendation: reinstall the stock firmware using all 3 md5 files: PDA, CSC and PHONE, using gingerbread version 2.3.5....mine worked fine with this....
thnx alot for the help guys

I installed Deodexed Stock XXJVT stock rom from here, and everything went well. Than I wanted to root it. I did that with this kernel CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVT-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip, and it also went well. After that I wanted to "restore to factory settings" - format my user data. When I tried that, phone rebooted, than went to Android system recovery, and ask me to choose one of the options (see picture). I tried "wipe data/factory reset", but I got error messages from picture bellow. Tried again with same result.
Than I flashed phone with stock rom and stock kernel AGAIN. Tried to restore to factory settings, and 1. phone DIDN'T go to system recovery, and 2. erased all data WITHOUT any errors and with complete success.
Than I tried AGAIN (for the second time) to root with same kernel (again it went well). Than AGAIN tried to restore to factory settings (erase private data), and AGAIN problem mentioned above happened.
Now I have stock rom and stock kernel again. I need root for some things, but I don't know how to solve this problem. Could someone please help me with this?
Thanks.
hello
use odin to flash it see here
original rom xxjvt : http://www.techgom.com/2011/10/install-235-gingerbread-xxjvt-on.html
how to root it : http://www.techgom.com/2011/10/cf-root-for-gingerbread-235-xxjvt.html
-----
you must translate page to english with google chrome
You've already done a hard reset, so just install cf kernel again. Most instructions say wipe before flashing, you have still removed previous files etc
Sent using TCP/IP
Thanks both for quick reply.
@seghier
Thanks for these instructions. I did slightly different process. Maybe this why I got all these errors. I did use ODIN, but I flashed rom with "re-partition" checked (instruction says it shoudn't be checked), and also I used PIT while I am doing this and this instruction says I should do this without it. Check attachemnt picture for hw I did this.
Also, I did root with only PDA, and this tutorial says I should also PIT file included. See attachment for how I did this root.
I am a newbie so I am not sure if this could cause these errors? And did I do something wrong flashing and rooting phone my way?
Should I do this again following this two tutorials or not?
Also I am not sure what is DEODEXED means? Is there any differences between regular stock rom, and this DEODEXED one?
I just want regular stock rom and regular root.
oxeded rom is the original rom from samsung / deodexed is rom can be modified by users and you find in xda forums the difference
the method in photo is right
or you can install deodexed rom from here and the flash very easy :
http://www.multiupload.com/E9AT600ZUC
than use the files like see in image without pit or repartition
http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/1808/ppppas.png
Thanks, I will try now.
I still checked "re-partition" because I was using before DEODEXED, and now I am flashing ODEXED rom, so I thought maybe it is a different partition type. Is this ok? Flash went okay.
hello
when you find pit file repartition cheked automaticly
tell me if you success with flashing
Yes I did, thank you. But this problem with unable to restore to factory settings, after do root, still exist, even on ODEXED rom. It is deffinatelly some bug.
if you have problems you can format your sd card but first save all your files and data files using cwm : than create backup
you can try other deodexed rom from : s i9000 developement
i used the original deodexed rom and work fine
I don't have external SD card, just internal memory. Backup isn't problem. I wanted to delete all my personal data, but this error happenes. Did you try erase personal data AFTER did a root?
try this
settings ----- sd card and phone storage-------usb storage : format usb storage
and that remove all your files : music photos ...etc
-for hard reset try this : *2767*3855#
-factory data reset : *#*#7780#*#*
save all your photos and music ....
I already bring back some things, and also I managed to erased all that before doing root, so I won't experimenting anymore for now. Thak for your help. I will try this next time I want to clean my phone completly.
i hope that work for you
and deodexed rom more better because you can add new theme or launcher or flash update without limit than oxeded rom
good luck
Thanks.
try a new kernel
working now? please give a feedback ?
Like a wrote before. DEODEXED and ODEXED both work and I CAN restore to factory settings. After do root, it can't ba done anymore. I tried every possible combination, but result is same, so I guess that can't be done (which isn't so importante to me because I already restored to factory settings before apply root).
I didn't try other kernel (don't know either where to find other kernel), because I already installed programs, made personal settings, so I don't want again to wype all that.
If someone of you could try this it would be okay.
try semaphore kernel is very nice :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
use this application to install kernel :
https://market.android.com/details?id=neldar.sgs.kernel.flasher
and this application for save all your application to external card and you can restore it :
http://fr.appbrain.com/app/app-backup-restore/mobi.infolife.appbackup
--------
and don t forget to make backup with cwm
I am not so experienced about all this. What is difference between semaphore kernel and that other kernel I used for root?
Also if someone else could try this, who need to clean phone anyway, because I just make everything to work OK, so I don't want to experiment again.

you should be fine if you don't wipe data in recovery or do factory data reset!
you can't really check that bug, it is present in kernels for ICS ROMs
ALL ICS kernels are affected except those built from CM9 source (ROMs like: Asylum ICS, MIUI ROM and the new Paranoidandroid ROM)
If you don't want to do any wiping or flashing through recovery, you can stay for now on LPY ROM, but I suggest that you flash a safe ICS ROM with safe kernel as soon as it becomes available!
HI mix, thanks for the reply...
Bro I don't wanna use any other ROM.... I want to use stock ROM only... Cox I got this phone after allot struggle and I don't wanna give it for even 1 hour to Samsung CC
They won't care of na phone I love it
Can you tell me is there any stock ROM available which is fully safe ? Bug free....

Stock gingerbread is safe, and has good battery life. But if you are already on ICS, i would advise to stick with it for now, until devs figure out the brick bug fix. And if you really want flashing back to gb, search the forum for guide and read carefully. I upgraded to ics and went back to gb twice without any problem using Pc Odin. But that's just me.

Hi ltd.
I, am also thinking to stick with ics
But the doubt entered in my mind
Tell me if the phone get beaked than Samsung will ask me for money ?
My phone is new... I baught it previous month
And flashed with ics before a weak...
And my friend who also flashed ics... he had done factory reset 2 times... And not got a single problem !
What's your opinion? Will phone won't break if it had flashed through PC ics ?
And what about Germany users? Who had officially upgraded it from kies ?
Have they also got the bug ?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
It doesnt matter how you flash Ics. There is still a bug in the kernel which makes wipe/flash operation dangerous, and could potentially damage your eMMC. I said potentially because there are a lot of users that succesfully flash and wipe without problem, but some wasnt so lucky.
If you dont do any wipe/flash with LPY kernel, then you are safe. Dont worry. I used ics german rom just fine, smoother, faster app loading and various improvement over GB. However battery life was hit and miss. The phone couldnt enter deep sleep state.
If you brick your Note, just bring it to the shop. Tell them you left it to charge overnight and found it dead in the morning. They probally give a replacament. This depends on where you live and waranty conditions though.

Ok that's grate..... I had backed up my not
And I don't think so it will get break
But bro you saying I can't flash also ! So now when the Indian ics will available than how I will be able to upgrade with that ? it will also need to upgrade by flashing ?
and what the hell happens when phone gets break ?

Ok,i'm on LPY German + CFroot + done wipe cache twice(using Mobile odin to flash ICS & CFroot from Rocketrom GB v23) & TOTALLY scared to revert back to GB or superbrick my GNote. Here's what EXACTLY i do,happened & my opinions:
1.Download Abyss 4.2 kernel, Prerooted GB XXLC1 from bodivas thread,ODIN1.85,RocketRom GB V23 & put it into single folder (unzip prerooted GB rom-3 files & unzip ODIN1.85).Put Abyss4.2&Rocketrom GB v23 to phone internal memory. ODIN&Pre-rooted stay in my pc(in case Abyss&Rocketrom FAILED & Gnote not brick).
2.Backup & shutdown my GNote.
3.Get into CWM (combo button -Volume up,home & power)
4.Flash Abys4.2 kernel successfully & go to Advanced in CWM - Reboot Recovery & wait till GNote reboot & get into Redpil Recovery.
5. Still in Redpill Recovery - wipe data/factory reset,cache & dalvik - STAY IN REDPIL RECOVERY,DONT REBOOT!!!
6. Still in redpil - flash Rocketrom GB v23 - success & Reboot System.
7. MY GNOTE STUCKED IN ROCKETROM BOOT ANIMATION & SCREEN ARE BLANK/BLACK & NO RESPONSE!!!!Try reflash Rocketrom & still same FAILED result!!
Okay,here's what i do next:
1.Take out battery - put my Gnote to Download Mode (Combon buttons - Volume Down,Home & Power).
2. Start Odin1.85 & I just followed instructions in Bodivas thread using Prerooted ROM that i download before...unzip & have 3 files.
3. Connect GNote(still in Download Mode) to my laptop (while odin still running) & green in odin (detect & added).
4. Put 3 files to PDA,Modem & CSC.
5. DOuble check....again&again (dont repartition!!!)
6. START.
7. Gnote Autoreboot & continue installation in Gnote....and reboot GNote again.
8. Gingerbread started & successfully reach the settings..the one "Touch Logo to Settings"......fuhh!!!!! WHAT A RELIEF!!!!!
My opinions:
1. If you on Stock German LPY & STILL NO CF ROOT - the easiest, safe & simplest way is FLASH with ODIN using Prerooted GB (Full-wipe prefered) rom.
2. If you on Stock German LPY + CFRoot & no wipe at all OR Stock Grm LPY + CF ROOT + Wipe Cache - the SAFEST is using Abyss4.2 kernel,Custom GB rom & if failed...use ODIN. Abyss4.2 kernel is important if u failed..u're stil in GB Kernel & can use ODIN (GNOte still can get into CWM or DOnwload Mode).
Anyway, thats myexperience & opinions...maybe dont apply to your GNote....just want to share to all.

try to remove your sd card to see if it stops hanging/rebooting. If it does, remove any app that you could have installed in the sd card. Then in your pc format the sd card.
CWM won´t dissapear until you flash the stock kernel since the kernel you flashed has it.
So try to flash the stock kernel for your rom with pc odin, or just reflash a stock rom.
Just flash a different kernel......and everything will be back to normal...frnks latest version is a bit buggy....try speedmod...and flash kernels only on custom roms...not stock roms...
I returned to Gingerbread from CM9 with stock safe team overcome files... My tab works correctly, but I can't install Firefox...
I checked in sammobile to find official firmware... I find 2 file:
Italy (TIM) 2012 January 2.3.6 P1000AIJQ1 P1000TIMJQ1
Italy 2011 May 2.3.3 P1000XXJQ1 P1000OXAJQ1
I haven't TIM version, so I think I must install 2.3.3... Is it correct??? Can I istall 2.3.6 and remove all TIM brand???
How to install this firmware???
Thank
All of that for Firefox?
Just download the apk and install it,

Agreed. Sorry to ask, but you successfully flash CM9, and successfully restocked back to GB-Stock-safe -- that's not an easy task.
But you can't get firefox running? (I'll try to download firefox with ICS AOKP and with 2.3.3. open asia version my friend has and let you know).
GB-Stock-safe IS 2.3.3 JQ1, so there shouldn't be much difference 'Italy 2011 May 2.3.3 P1000XXJQ1 P1000OXAJQ1'
So if you can't get it running on GB-Stock-safe, you may not be able to get it running on P1000XXJQ1 as well.
EDIT: Firefox is still on BETA while android is already on jellybean??? -- wow you are really a loyal fan of Firefox.
Firefox on 2.3.3 and CM9, downloaded from google play, started up nicely. --If you restore from titanium backup, you might want to redownload from google play store.
If you move from CM9 to gingerbread, many apps restored from titanium backup wouldn't be able to start correctly.
With GB from team overcome I can't download and install firefox from play store, because my version isn't supported... But with original firmware I downloaded it correctly... Why? Maybe team overcome modified some stuff...
I liked chrome in CM9, but with 2.3.3 I can't install it unfortunately...

Hey, even i shifted from cm9 to gingerbread with lot of pitfalls and difficulties.. now i restored my apps using titanium backup.. whenever i open my menu i.e my app drawer the restored apps are not displayed... when i exit and open the menu again they are displayed... what is wrong with my tab ?
now i have a problem..
i rooted my tab using cfroot which installed the clockworkmod version 3.0, then i made a backup of my stock rom i.e gingerbread 2.3.3 using the nandroid backup method i.e going into the recovery mode and manually making a backup..
then later on i flashed cm9 onto the tab. since i was not so pleased by it i thought of flashing back to the stock rom using the recover option in the recovery mode..
when chose that option, everything went wrong.. Note , i did not wipe any cache, or user data or dalvik cache.
whenever i tried to boot my tab, it was stuck at the boot screen..
now i have installed a stock rom of some other country and have both the backup i.e backup of stock rom and cm9 as well...
My question is that whether i would be able to get back my backed up stock rom and how ??
Secondly, how to perform a complete backup of rom and flash back to it in any case ?
Please help.. !!
thanks in advance..
3 facts, that I know
- you cannot use Titanium Backup to restore to different OS, ( from ICS to GB was what you did), it is meant for same OS version
- to return to non MTD rom from CM9 MTD, a full restock is required, that means flashing GB from with pit file and repartition checked,
- Overcome recovery can't take reliable nandroid backup. CM9 one is OK. I never tried cfroot one.

As i said that I rooted my gt-p1000 using cfroot. it installed clockworkmod v3.0. I took a backup of my stock rom. Then later on I restored the stock rom from the recovery mode.
everything went fine, and the restore was complete. but when my tab started to boot, it was stuck at the boot screen.
Later on i performed a full flash using the odin method.. repartitioning...
Then i performed restoring the stock rom again which i had backed up before.. just this time i wiped user data/factory reset and wipe cache partition and this time the restoring worked fine..
my question is that.. i saw videos on youtube about getting a backup using the clockworkmod. they went in the mounts and storage section and wiped data, system and dalvik cache whereas i just wiped user data and cache partition from the main menu... What difference did it make ?? Did i did something wrong..
Note: i have restored my original stock rom which is working fine.

Hi
My phone have freezed a couple of times and the battery drain fast. Have done alot of flashing Stock roms due to problems after restored imei file.
phone is now working.
I am now on Jelly bean rooted With PhilZ-cwm6. After I rooted it I used Kies to restore a full back(made when I was on jelly bean without root). Maybe that is the problem. Maybe I should have restored the backup With Samsung kies before rooting.
Maybe try to reset the phone. which one of the option below should I choose. Does any have any advice?
1) Flash Stock JB With Odin
2) Flash Stock JB With odin + pit files?
3) do a wipe data /factory reset(I am on philz-cwm kernel)?
4) or og into settings/backup and reset/factory data reset , here check the Format USB Storage. (could I do this on rooted phone or should I unroot first)
Help is much appriceated!!
Just do a factory reset from settings or recovery, it's the same operation.
