i have rooted my galaxy s through odin and i am using darky's rom 10.2, now i have to factory reset my galaxy s, so i wanted to ask that whether is it safe to factory reset my galaxy s from the privacy menu or not???
please help
Yes it's safe, but remember you're gonna lose anythin on your internal sd-card. So make a backup with titanium first of your apps (and data, like the history of whatsapp ).
If you want to get more geeky, you could do a wipe from the Recovery mode too by using the 3 button combination.

thnx alot for the help guys
Hi guys hope someone can help..
I have been on ics for few months & loving it..
Few days ago I updated my brother-in-law sgs i9000 from Darkys rom xxjw1 > updated to Dark knight rom ics 4.0.4 ...
"he wants to go back to any gingerbread rom stock or custom"..!!
Firstly I made no backup & worst of all I cannot find anything Google search (no guides tutorials info) etc
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP OR DIRECT ME..
It's it a straight simple flash of a GB ROM with full wipe.. Or is it bit more complex from what I have been told..!!
What, google is dead
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/xxjvu/
I thought (read from different forums) that it was a difficult procedure..
Okay can you check steps..
1 Nandroid backup current rom
2 backup apps data settings etc
FULL WIPE
3 factory reset
4 wipe cache
5 wipe dalvik cache
6 format system
7 format cache
8 format data
(I'm unsure about the others like boot, datadata, sd, emmc)
Odin flash stock xxjvu
root firmware flash kernel
Fix permissions
Reboot
Hopefully back on gingerbread
"please do correct me & appreciate any help"
Download stock then flash with odin
For me i back to ics
1.Full wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik for ICS first then go to download mode.
2.Open odin tool.
3.Then flash stock 2.3.3 XWJW5
4.Done.
1. Make backup, if need. Format and cache wipping not requaired, Odin delete old partitions and create neew, if ‘Re-Partition’ checkbox is checked
2. flash GB rom with Odin
3. root, if need
Thanks all that replied & helped..
@Janka63
Have you flashed GB ROM coming from an ICS ROM.. Did Odin flash work okay..??
I've done it with wipe cache and dalvik,
format sd, system, data and dbdata.
Than flashed with Odin a Stock JW1.
I did several times since the 1st time I tried to port ICS in my phone, (the last time was before yesterday), when I was unable to enter recovery and the mobile when looping, I grabbed Odin, flashed it directly (no wipe, anything, but I bet my phone's life for it), rooted it back. Now I'm back for ICS.
wiping is unnecessary for odin roms.

Thanks.. But can you explain why wiping is unnecessary with Odin (as I believe a wipe will not be done using Odin)..
I have always been advised to do wipe when flashing/switching roms whether it's using Odin, cwm recovery, Heimdall etc etc
Hello all. I'm having trouble with a galaxy ace, in that it seems very fussy about which ROMs it will run. Bought it about 6mo ago from Optus Australia on prepaid and unlocked it to use on another network. I tried at the time to upload a custom ROM, but failed and ended up having to re-load it with Odin 4.38 and the only images I could then find, which are these:
APBOOT_S5830XXKPH_CL260130_REV03_user_low_true.tar.md5
CODE_S5830XXKPH_CL260130_REV03_user_low_true.tar.md5
CSC_S5830XXKPH_CL260130_REV03_user_low_true.tar.md5
MODEM_S5830XXKPH_CL260130_REV03.tar.md5
Just recently the device has been unstable so I looked around and found the stable CM 7.2 ROM recently released (cm-7.2.0-cooper.zip) so I grabbed that, installed CWM 5.0.2.6, ran a backup and tried to install it. Device only got as far as the black boot screen with the word Android in uppercase doublespaced and hung.
Booted back into CWM and tried to restore, got the MD5 checksum error. Fixed the nandroid.md5 and tried again, and the device then hung at the initial boot screen for the stock rom (says Samsing Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 or similar).
Back to Odin. Found a recent version (4.42) and a one package ROM, S5830XWKT7_S5830OPPKS6_S5830XWKT3_HOME.tar.md5 and loaded this to the handset. This one gives me an Optus spashscreen followed by the sort of pulsing SAMSUNG text in an infinite loop.
Eventually tried the flasher and ROM I used six months ago (at the top of the thread) and was able to get the phone to boot successfully. Reinstalled the rooting package, reinstalled CWM5 and managed to restore just data out of the advanced backup/restore menu.
So I'm back to where I started, only six hours worse off Has anyone got any idea why this isn't working for me, or any good suggestions of how to proceed?
Cheers,
Alex
Are you sure you are using the GT-S5830 and not the Gt-S5830i ?
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace.
damn, that would be a stupid mistake
No, I'm not absolutely positive. The sticker under the battery says GT-S5830, but from a look at google images the two handsets appear identical? How can I establish for sure?

Use Odin 4.38, download any one package firmware from sammobile with your backup's android version (ie 2.3.4, 2.3.5 or whatever).
Flash it, wipe everything after Flash (from stock recovery), then root, install cwm and restore your backup.
Boot loops are mostly caused when you don't wipe after flashing. Connection issues can be fixed by flashing your region's modem.
Also, restore backups using the appropiate cwm version (backups of cwm5 restore with cwm5)
Cheers. Dunno if I'm being a bit simple here, but I'm only finding 10 most recent FWs here, all of which are 2.3.6 ?
I didn't do as much wiping as you suggest last time though, so i'll give it another whirl and see if I do any better.
I was being simple. Hadn't selected a region.
trying now.
Flash DXKPB 2.3.4 Asian firmware first. If you flash that, it will format all of your partition back to rfs
And after that you can just flash newer firmware like XWKT7 2.3.6 and wipe data. Voila!

i had stock 2.3.6 and i decided to download and flash Jellaxy
it works, but sometimes its slow, lagging and apps crashing
i have nandroids of both (stock and jellaxy)
i tried restoring stock 2.3.6
error restoring /system
advanced restore just system didnt work, too
i flashed 2.3.5 italian through odin (download mode)
odin didnt finish because of bootloop
i dont remember exactly, but i did wipe, factory reset, cache and/or other
it booted, finally (in italian)
then i formatted /data and recovered old data
bootloop
i tried wiping all at once: dalvik, cache, data, factory reset
bootloop
now i cant go to download / recovery by holding vol down/up and home and power, it goes to ramdump
recovery is now home + power
i can restore jellaxy, but not stock
what to do? i'm stuck on jellaxy

To restore a stock rom your file systen to rfs !!!
And all custum rom are ext4!!
Meaning ... Use stock recovery to wipe data causing the system to become rfs again then install cwm and ONLY !!! Restore ! Otherwise if u format it will convert to ext4 again !
U can also use chainfire ext4 app to change file system in jellaxy and then restore.
Take care

what about that ramdump?
can i use mobile odin?
My phone is not modified at all. All I've done is OTA update to ICS 4.0.3.
The problem is that I feel my phone is buggy and gets hot. My Galaxy S2 was the same at first after the ICS update but a full reset and cache wipe seemed to solve the problem.
From what I've read it is not safe to do factory reset on a stock phone if you have the brick bug (I do).
Of course this is something you should be able to do and if the phone failed I could get a warranty replacement, however I'd rather not go through the hassle.
Question is then, what CAN I do? I'd like to factory reset and wipe internal storage to get back to factory fresh.
Go back to gb wipe data and everything and come back to ics
Or
Flash abyss kernel on your note and wipe data and everything
Or
Give your phone to Samsung service center

Since your phone is not rooted it's not recommendable to flash abyss. It will raise your flash counter and you will loose warranty. Flash a Gingerbread stock rom (original) instead using pc odin. Afterwards you can update again to ICS, once more using pc odin.

Same as I did last night.....Now "Factory fresh" and running Stock ICS rooted and SMK3-7 kernel..
okay, I upgrade my n70f00 from ics stock to jb stock then root with philz kernel. everything went fine. then I notice my phone a bit slow, memory almost full (left less then 100mb out of 800mb) and everytime I boot I get 'android is upgrading, app statting.." notification. i want to reset, but when I do backup with cmw always fail (never backup before). do some this and that, i found that i can't access folder '\data\lost&found'. each time I click that folder using any rooted explorer I have the phone restart. I search and found sgs tools app that can delete corrupted media file, and it did. but I still can access '\data\lost&found' folder (keep restarting).
any idea at all?
thanks in advance..
Did you wipe all the partitions before flashing jb? You can download philz kernel (zip file) corresponding to your rom and flash it from stock recovery.. Go back to recovery (cwm) and wipe data, preload, system, cache, dalvik cache and put the phone in download mode and flash jb for your country or any country using pc odin.. Do backup anything important before wiping..

I didn't wipe anything prior to jb upgrading, hoping everything went fine so I dont have to reinstall alot of apps after upgrading. Now, I can't do full backup because it keep rrstarting when I do full backup. So I'll try several things before doing full wipe and odin.
Thanks

if you are already rooted and if phone gives you enough time to backup your apps you can try using Titanium backup pro to backup your apps.

yes, I'm root. ok, i'll try that. btw, is there any risk of bricking if I do odin with 'corrupted' system folder ('system\data\lost&found')?
thanks again
No. If you put the phone into download mode and flash stock rom from pc odin it should work, but it is advisable that you do wipe the /system /data /preload before you flash stock rom again. Make sure you are on safe kernel before wiping.
