USB bricked ??? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was using my CM9 modded with Glitch'd SGS and here comes the problem , i had removed my usb plug and the charging icon was still shown, so had it rebooted and gone out and now when i connect my SGS it has been detected only once then again my SGS's is not getting detected and no on screen response of USB connc. and CWM mounting also's not working...!!!
cannot understand what happened and even it's not responding to the charger also but when i switch off my phone and connect my charger it get's switched on!!
and then again the same no detection in USB mode and CWM mount also..
please help me guys this is driving me insane!!!

But it's getting detected over the ODIN..!

Got it back to 2.2 but the weird charging happens again it still says my device is charging even after removing the USB off..
& one more thing when ever i connect it it shows car mode enabled...!

You need to be on the Gingerbread bootloaders. Why on earth do you want to flash 2.2 when you could flash 2.3 instead?
And, please do us a favor by using the Edit option instead of making multiple posts.

Frustration at it's peak.

Hi there guys, That's it .
After reaching my highest limit of searching / installing / removing , z4root , super onclick, which btw none work, I am on the edge, basically , loosing my mind, and all I would like to do is just root my phone and have it working properlly and faster.
Now there are so many old root methods as the one I tryed Does any of you guys can help me out and explain how do I root my Samsung Galaxy S I-9000, with froyo 2.2 firmware ?
Thank you Omri.
what exact firmware,
i used JL2 and super one click worked for me.
try all of them.
Gets stuck on " Waiting for Device "
and i already unplugged the phone a couple of times with usb debugging on/off , any chance that im doing somthing wrong?
flash speedmod kernel.. or cfroot kernel
Can you see phone from the PC?
It sounds like the Odin method of flashing a custom kernel is not an option (if not try that - lots of info in the kernel posts)?
If your computer is not recognizing the phone try remove and reinstall drivers and kies and then also clean out the port on the phone with alcohol (and try another usb cable if you have one).
That my two bits. I tried in vain to root from the phone alone with 2.2 but finally got odin working by cleaning the port and now the possibilities are endless.
What exactly is this "Flashing / Kernel" options exactly , because the computer recognizes the USB just fine. ??
See here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756
This is for speedmod (if you need other options go to the stickies in the development section and look for the kernel list near the bottom of the stickies).
Follow the procedure for Odin installation. You will need to ensure you can go into download mode (Vol Down, home and power buttons to see - it should show android with a shovel in yellow - you can pull the battery to stop it if just checking but don't touch anything while Odin is working). If you cannot get 3 button download working, look for that fix in the forums too. I did not have that issue so I can't point you in the right direction there.
I think hardcore's page (author of the rom) has a link to an Odin guide. But its worth getting to know a bit as it will save your bacon if you need to get back to stock for warrenty.
Once you have this rom you'll be rooted and have clockwork Mod which allows flashing from the phone if you like (most custom roms are based on CWM installation). This is what I did once I got mine back from warrenty with 2.2 and then I flashed Darky's rom keeping the stock modem.

If you are stuck at "waiting for device"
do not exit Super One Click
1. pull out the usb from the phone,
2. turn off by pulling out the battery
3. put the battery back, turn on & plug in the USB

{FIXED} take a look at this bricked galaxy tab, repairable? [FIXED]

basically i messed up the bootloaders now it does this (bear with me)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkFsZK79XYQ
it only does this when plugged into the wall and it will not do anything if plugged into usb port on the pc, my guess now is the battery is so flat that it wont do a thing any more! i almost got it to run via odin on the pc but the battery drained so bad that it wont respond, i have left it plugged in for at least 6 hours with then just the same response just on and off on and off.
can i take the battery out and charge it via a separate charger to get some life into it to then flash the stock rom via odin?
any ideas would be great! i don't mind taking it apart but don't want to if i'm going to fry the battery i have all sorts of wall chargers, can i join the + and - from the wall charger to the correct wires on the battery for it to charge? i have a multimeter to test the batteries voltage. any suggestions?
[UPDATE 1 ] flashed overcome stock rom then pc wont connect to odin even in recovery mode, :recovery is stock: :rom is stock: from the overcome website, cant flash any rom via odin as it wotn connect, error message usb device not recognised' how to fix this issue? maybe update.zip via sdcard within stock recovery? which rom and for gt-p1000 united kingdom. i tried to reinstall samsung kies for the correct driver but still the same issue, cannot connect after flashing. i have been following this guide http://p1000.teamovercome.net/?page_id=64 any help with connection would be great or flashing via recovery, almost unbricked but not quite.
my connection problem was due to a faulty usb cable, all is fixed now and i have overcome kratos.installed and running sweet
Hello, I don't think that you have a dead battery. I think your rom has a defect cause your Tab would like to boot. Is it possible to go to recovery or to the download mode? Try to flash something. Does your Tab start this screen flash automaticly by plug on a PC od starts this only if you try to turn it on?
PS: It is possible to remove the battery but it is a little difficult. My suggestion: don't touch the Battery
will not go to download mode or recovery. no response when pushing power power button, all i get is the flashing screen with pc and mobile phone connection.
i left tab connected to the pc for one hour, the tab came on with the pc-phone connection image, i flashed overcome rom via odin with repartition which completed but when it went to reboot it has stayed turned off and wont come on at all even when pressing the power button, no download mode and no recovery, i will wait again for it to come on and try the stock rom, not sure if i've got the correct bootloaders or not.
any ideas?
Have you tried leaving it on the ac outlet? or car charger?
ok slight update. . .
i left it plugged into the pc after it passed the odin flash it then BOOTED i was like WWWAAAAAAHHHHOOOOO bouncing on my chair and feeling very happy indeed the battery is totally dead but is now charging in the wall switched off to get some life back into the battery im so pleased
next steps is to get the overcome rom to flash!

i tried for 6 hours to plug it directly into the wall but nothing worked.
Exact same thing happened to me on the Sprint Tab. Called Samsung and sent the unit in. They sent me a brand new unit the next week.
when plugged into my pc now i get an error message, ' usb device has not been recognised' im thinking its the drivers but not sure where to get them, i have searched.
i have updated the 1st post with more information on this issue.
Your tab was showing a secondary bootloader so if you mess up your primary bootloader with the bootloader patch it'll still be recoverable and as for getting overcome I would recommend upgrading to gingerbread which doesn't have protected bootloaders and flash kratos or Jupiter which are faster than the froyo based overcome rims ;-)

Roms*

the only issue im having now is the fact that the pc wont recognise the android phone when in download mode.
the only message i get on the screen is 'usb device not recognised' i am then unable to flash a different rom or a stock rom via odin being gingerbread or froyo. thats why im asking if there is an update.zip file that i can flash from the recovery to make the usb mode work as it wont even work with debugging mode on or off and wont show via samsung kies or odin when the tab is booted.
my connection problem was due to a faulty usb cable, all is fixed now and i have overcome kratos.installed and running sweet

[Q] lsusb not detecting bricked Captivate

Hey guys
This is my first post at XDA but I am not new to flashing ROM to my Captivate
I have looked all over the forums but could not find an answer to my questions.
My Captivate was originally on Eclair, later upgraded to Froyo with lag fix and it fixed nothing. It was still really slow and unusable. I saw one of my friends running Gingerbread and man it was blazing fast. So I decided to try some Gingerbread.
First of all, my Captivate if 1008 batch. The three button to download mode is not supposed to work for this batch but it worked and I was able to get it back to stock ROM. I was able to use the stock ROM too so I decided to try upgrade to Gingerbread. This time the 3 button download mode did not work. So I did "adb reboot download" and put it into download mode and all problems started.
1. No USB port is detecting the phone.
2. The battery slipped out of the phone and after I put it back, it gave me the infamous phone--!--computer soft bricked state.
3. In Windows 7, No "3 button fix to put it to download mode with Odin3 open" is working
4. In Linux (Ubuntu 10.10), I tried the one-click-unbrick JAR file and the error is "Device Not Detected".
5. I have tried 2 different Micro USB cables and all possible USB ports, still no response.
6. Once I connect the phone to the computer, I get the phone--!--computer logo but lsusb does not show the device.
7. On Windows 7, Device manager does not show any USB device when I connect the phone.
So basically I think the problem is the device is not showing up on any USB port, so there is no question of ODIN, Hiemdall or One-click-anything. What should I do now?
Thanks

Have you tried cleaning the USB port on your phone with some rubbing alcohol and a small piece of cloth on a toothpick? Maybe it's just not making good contact.
Let me give that a quick try.
Two question.
1. Is the device supposed to be detected even in the soft bricked state by the OS?
2. Even in soft bricked state, is the battery charging? Cuz if its not, I need to order an external battery charger.
Thanks

If you haven't looked through it, check out the "Captivate Connection Issues and Download Mode Help" in my signature.
To answer your questions:
1. Yes. That screen is quasi-download-mode, and the OS should see it.
2. Honestly, I don't know. I think the answer is yes, but someone who understands the hardware better than I do would have to respond.
almost the same crap as me, our captivates are dying >.<
Bricked too
Got my captivate bricked last night and cannot flash any rom. I got the phone-/!\-computer screen and odin and computer does not detect the phone when i plug it in. I have tried every method known to man but am not getting anywhere. Any ideas?
The screen you are seeing IS DL mode...
Here, you need this!
so the link in the above post is dead. Any idea what it was linked to?

ok so i bricked my phone, then was able to make a jig which allowed me to get the gingerbread bootloaders installed on the captivate. Now, neither my laptop or pc cannot find the phone while it is in download mode. What should I do from here. I am running ginger bread and cannot make download mode work.

Possibly bricked Galaxy i9000

Hi, i bought a used Galaxy i9000 from a friend and it had Froyo 2.2 installed on it, i rooted the phone with an app on the phone because i couldn't seem to get any response when i plugged it into the laptop via usb lead. The computer will not detect the phone at all it just does nothing when it's plugged in. It will charge from the usb cable and charger but will not do anything once plugged into the computer. I tried using rom manager to install a rom, the last thing on-screen on the phone was saying that it was flashing the kernel, then it rebooted and since then the phone just displays Galaxy i9000 or it will also display a small circular clock type icon in the middle of the black screen and it is a frozen icon. The phone will go into download mode and i have tried to flash it with odin but when in download mode and plugged into the computer, Odin does not detect it, i have tried at least 6 usb cables all tested on my other i9000 and work fine but with this other phone they do not respond. The only thing i can think of is maybe the usb micro port is broken/faulty, what do you think it could be? Any help would be appreciated because i have been trying for hours for the past two days and cannot seem to figure it out, i'm just hoping the phone isn't beyond being repaired. Thanks
Did you install the latest version of samsung drivers?
if not install them, then try to flash again using odin... do it multiple times until you get it right.
and by the way, going into download mode without your computer recognizing your device is a big big mistake... hope it'll work for you
here you can get the latest drivers:

Have you tried in a different computer with automatic windows update switched on?

can you get into recovery mode, if you can you may be able to use a sd card to flash from. This depends on what recovery is already on there, have a look at this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30415128&postcount=1
It wont go into recovery mode it just boot loops when i try

Just yesterday I had issues with the latest Samsung driver (1.5.16.0 bricked my phone), so i reverted to1.5.9.0. This seemed to rectify flashing my recently acquired GT-I9000T.
It may help you.
P.S. 1.5.16.0 worked OK on my GT-I9100.

Hi , r u able to resolve this issue .. now iam facing the same issue .. my phone boots to download mode but my pc doesn't detect it & i am unable to go to recovery mode.

[Q] N7000 bricked - No USB connection possible

ok first things first, imma noob, and i did a stupid thing.
It started in last summer when i wasnt able anymore to connect the N7000 to my WIN 7 64bit (probably after an update to ICS /JB).
Well since i never needed to transfer files (64GB-sdxc) i didnt care much about it. but then in last times my phone/ram cache was full of so much unblockable bootloaded crapware so that i wanted to switch from a official 4.1.2 firmware to cyanogen. But since my USB wasnt working it wasnt that easy.
Side note: the USB-port was ****ed up before (short-circuit, screen woke up due to fake-loading). i fixed that by luck and some dark magic.. so of course i thought the connection problem were because oif the broken jack.
The day before yesterday i tried for 8 hours anything i could find to install another bootloader and flash CM (CWM / TWRP / Triangle away / minimal adb/fastboot etc.); didnt work, CWM seemed to boot up but loading failed all the time at 1/3rd of the bar at screen went black.
Yesterday my friend came over and i tried to use his USB-jack to connect my phone to my Pc, which failed. THEN i put the "broken" one from mine in his N7000; that was efficacious, everything worked fine, so the USB-jack wasnt the problem.
Later i had, out of frustration, moronism, and anger, the glorious idea to download and flash another (older) Kernel via mobile odin to install an old gingerbread stock rom on it afterwards.
That was stupid as i know now, all i can do now is enter download mode, but without USB-connectivity and the stock bootloader with the options reboot system / update from sd / wipe data / wipe cache / test redbend fota(FS) and boot, which stucks at the N7000-screen.
After i managed to **** things up i found an article which describes my (now former) USB-problem perfectly. it says to put in a special number combination on the phone to get to phoneUtil and then switch from modem mode to pda mode. i knew this screen before but i couldnt find it at the preferences on JB.
Now comes my question: What could be done to unbrick my phone? is there any help?
Can you not try another USB cable? Try cleaning out the pins and see if it works. Then flash speedmod.

>Just to clarify: with USB-Jack i mean the USB-Port with the connector to the motherboard; sorry if i misused the word
I dont think so cause we used only his cable when he was here and my phone neither connected with mine nor with his USB-Jack, but both Jacks worked on his phone.
Pro-question: Is there a difference between (usual) USB-connection in booted mode and connection in download mode? i mean is download mode something like a "safe mode" where the USB doesnt need to run on 100% availabilty? Should i try to find the phone via Odin in downdload mode again by using his cable? i dont think this could work else.
Samsung galaxy note gt-n7000 bricked. Need HELP!!
